      Phone.Com Inc. ( PHCM / 923088 )

      Unternehmensbereich:

Phone.com, Inc. is a leading provider of software that enables the delivery of Internet-based services to mass-market wireless telephones. The Company`s software products enable the delivery of Internet-based services to mass-market wireless telephones. Products include: UP.Link Server Suite, a product that network operators use to connect their subscribers` mass-market wireless telephones to Internet services; UP.Browser, a browser that is embedded in mass-market wireless telephones and enables wireless subscribers to access Internet services; UP.Smart, a suite of software applications that delivers personal digital assistant features to smartphones; and UP.SDK, a software development kit that Internet content providers and third-party developers use to create WML-compliant applications.
Phone.com, Inc. is a provider of software that enables the delivery of Internet-based services to mass-market wireless telephones, including e-mail, news, stocks, weather, travel and sports. For the six months ended 12/31/99, total revenues totaled $21.3 million, up from $3.2 million. Net loss totaled $24.9 million, up from $8.3 million. Results reflect revenues associated with the licensing of products to AT&T and Sprint, offset by increased amortization of intangibles.

      Hallo an alle,

      Information for Developers

Phone.com turns mass-market wireless phones into Internet companions. Now developers can deliver the key information and interactive access that today`s wireless subscribers want and need. Developers use the UP.SDK to create content and applications on industry-standard Web servers. The UP.SDK is available at no charge to all developers, and contains the tools and interfaces necessary to bring innovative applications to life on the world`s wireless networks.
      UP.SDK

UP.SDK is a freely available Software Development Kit that enables Web developers to quickly and easily create HDML and WML information services and applications. The SDK includes the robust UP.Simulator that accurately simulates the behavior of an UP.Browser-enabled device. The simulator can run applications in local mode or connect to an UP.Link so developers can test the complete set of UP.Link-enabled services and API`s.

Phone.com also provides a publicly available UP.Link for all developers to use freely so that they can create complete applications without the need for a handset or expensive carrier infrastructure. The simulator runs on either Windows `95 or Windows NT. Also included is a complete set of UP.Link developer documentation; sample files and source code to use as a starting point; and libraries of Perl, C and COM Object functions, which simplify the process of generating WML or HDML and handling HTTP requests. Developers deploy applications royalty free, on standard Web servers; no runtime license is required.

      Hallo an alle,

Oracle, Motorola in wireless Net partnership
      By Bloomberg News
      Special to CNET News.com
      February 22, 2000, 7:40 a.m. PT

REDWOOD CITY, Calif.--Database software maker Oracle plans to form an independent company to develop wireless Internet access technology and will unveil a partnership today with Motorola, the companies said.

Motorola will be one of the companies making the cell phones and other devices that use the wireless technology, said Motorola spokesman David Rudd. The new company will use Oracle`s software with Motorola`s voice-command recognition technology, he said.

Sprint`s wireless unit uses technology developed by Phone.com that allows consumers to access the Internet from cell phones. Nextel Communications last May received $600 million from Microsoft to help develop an online service.

Local phone firm Bell Atlantic said in November it would also offer Internet access to digital wireless customers.

Investors are betting on the growth of that market. Phone.com shares are up almost 17-fold since the company first sold shares to the public in June.

      Hallo an alle,

      News:

Oracle on Tuesday formed a subsidiary called OracleMobile.

"There are about 50 million wireless Internet phones in the world," said Oracle Chief Executive Larry Ellison. "That`s going to a billion in very short order." Within a few years, Ellison says the majority of people will access the Internet over phones, hand-held computers and what the company calls "Internet devices," instead of personal computers.

While OracleMobile will compete with Phone.com, a leading wireless Net infrastructure company, the OracleMobile product will serve to "bring the wireless Net market to a higher profile," said Pete Peterson, a wireless analyst at Prudential Volpe Technology Group.

Shares of Phone.com (PHCM: news, msgs) ran up 10 3/16, or 7 percent, to 147. Phone.com makes software that enables content on the Web to be viewed on a tiny wireless device. "Phone.com is the investment vehicle that you can use today," said Peterson.

      Hallo an alle,

MITSUBISHI ELECTRIC AND PHONE.COM ANNOUNCE WAP INTEROPERABILITY TESTING
      THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 24, 2000 9:00 AM
      - PRNewswire

PARIS, and REDWOOD CITY, Calif., Feb 24, 2000 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- Mitsubishi Electric, one of the world`s leading manufacturers of mobile handsets, and Phone.com, Inc., a leading provider of mobile Internet software and services, announced today that they have initiated a project to verify the interoperability between their products. Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) interoperability tests will be conducted between Phone.com(TM)`s UP.Link(TM) Server and Trium`s Geo-@ (WAP) from Mitsubishi Electric France.

The intent of these tests is to enhance the compatibility of the two companies` WAP-based products and services, ensuring that they will operate together independent of the manufacturer. The tests are an important step for both companies in further establishing WAP as a truly global standard for mobile data communication. Phone.com has been undertaking interoperability testing for WAP-compatible products and services with several vendors, and offers its test facility to WAP product developers, vendors, and operators in an effort to reduce interoperability testing time.

Mr. Yamanaka, president director general of MEF, said, "We are delighted to be working with Phone.com on this project. By providing a connection to the Internet through a mobile phone, we will empower end-users with a handset that offers an easy solution to everyday life. Our first WAP product, the Geo-@ (WAP), is both an advanced information gathering tool and an essential accessory for consumers and business users."

"Interoperability is an important step to effective WAP deployment in the mass market," said Jeff Damir, vice president of business development for Phone.com. "As one of the co-founders of the WAP Forum, we are committed to ensuring maximum interoperability for all suppliers of WAP equipment."

In a recent Upside.com article, Strategy Analytics noted that from 1999 to 2003 more than 525 million WAP handsets will be shipped across the United States and Western Europe. Last month, Nokia predicted that by the end of 2003, mobile phones with Internet connections will surpass the number of personal computers linked to the World Wide Web.

News February 29, 16:23 Eastern Time

Phone.com introduces the first WAP-based system for over-the-air provisioning of wireless handsets; Phone.com Mobile Management Server (MMS) provides a one-stop provisioning center for WAP handsets, gateways and applications

FEB 29, 2000, M2 Communications - NEW ORLEANS, CTIA Wireless 2000 -- Phone.com, Inc. (Nasdaq: PHCM), a leading provider of WAP-based mobile Internet software and services, today introduced the Mobile Management Server (MMS) 1.0, the first WAP-based system for over-the-air provisioning of wireless handsets.

Wireless network operators can use MMS to securely provision their WAP gateways, applications, and handsets across multiple airlink standards including GSM, CDMA, TDMA, and PDC. MMS utilizes WAP`s WTLS secure protocol to communicate with the handset, and implements a Trusted Provisioning Domain mechanism to authenticate the MMS to the handset.

MMS enables network operators to remotely alter the specific software settings and configurations of handsets after they have been sold. With this feature, operators gain the flexibility to make updates to key business parameters in the handset. For example, in CDMA networks, operators can update roaming lists that define which networks to use when a handset is operating outside of its home network. With this feature, operators have more flexibility to
establish new roaming agreements and update their handsets in real-time to take advantage of better roaming rates.
