Hier eine aktuelle Einschätzung zu einem anderen Wert aus dieser Reihe.


Produkte zur Gewichtsreduktion und somit zur Vorbeugung von Zivilisationskrankheiten wie Diabetes und Herzkreislauferkrankungen gehören zum Geschäft von Medifast. Das „bisher“ noch wenig bekannte Unternehmen, das seit einiger Zeit auch Milliardenmarkt mit den „Nutritional Supplements“ angesiedelt ist, wird durch seine demnächst startende Werbekampagne aber bald in aller Munde sein.


Etwa 200 Milliarden USD jährlich geben die US-Amerikaner bisher für Fitness und Wellness aus. Doch Übergewicht und ernährungsbedingte Krankheiten werden das Geschäft mit den diätetischen Produkten, zu denen auch die bilanzierten Diätmahlzeiten von Medifast gehören, in den nächsten Jahren noch weiter wachsen lassen. Glaubt man den Vorhersagen der Trendforscher, wird das Marktvolumen für "Nutritional Supplements" bis zum Jahr 2010 die gigantische Marke von einer Billion USD sprengen.


Ganz heimlich still und leise schlich sich der Kurs der Medifast Aktie im vergangenen Jahr um mehr als 700 Prozent nach oben, doch Medifast ist noch immer als interessant einzustufen. So hat die Medifast Aktie bisher noch ein relativ dünnes Handelsvolumen und wird von den meisten Analysten zudem noch nicht hinreichend beachtet. Zudem ist das Wachstumspotenzial im Bereich „Nutritional Supplements“ noch lange nicht ausgereizt. Seit sich die Fettleibigkeit zu einer weltweiten Epidemie auszubreiten scheint, stehen die Ampeln auf rot.


Vor allem die Folgeerkrankungen der Fettleibigkeit werden schon bald ein riesiges Loch in die bereits leeren Kassen der Gesundheitssystemen reißen. Grund genug, um den ungeliebten Pfunden nun endlich den Kampf anzusagen, wovon Medifast mit seinen auf wissenschaftlichen Grundlagen basierenden bilanzierten Diäten nicht schlecht profitieren dürfte. Die Mission von Medifast ist klar umrissen, zu einem Marktführer im Bereich Ernährungs-, Krankheits- und Gewichtsmanagement will man schon bald werden.


Um dieses Ziel zu erreichen setzt Medifast auf drei Vertriebskanäle. Das Medifast Lifestyle Programm ist ein Netzwerk bestehend aus Ärzten und Gesundheitsexperten, die das Medifast Programm zur Gewichtsreduktion unterstützen. Seit 1980 haben etwa 15.000 Mediziner das Programm unterstützt, eine Zahl, die meines Erachtens noch erhebliches Steigerungspotenzial besitzt. Das Tochterunternehmen „Take Shape for Life“ bietet über entsprechende Berater ein 16 Wochen dauerndes Programm zur Gewichtsreduktion an, dass Betroffene während dieser Zeit nicht nur mit Rat und Tat, sondern auch mit den entsprechenden Medifast Produkten zur Seite steht. Ein dritter Vertriebskanal sind alle traditionell tätigen praktizierenden Ärzte.


Der Markt für die Medifast Produkte ist gemäß der jüngsten Statistiken tatsächlich gigantisch. Die Weltgesundheitsorganisation (WHO) geht davon aus, dass 16 Prozent der Weltbevölkerung, also etwa 1 Milliarde Menschen, übergewichtig sind. Gemäß der American Obesity Association ist etwa die Hälfte aller Amerikaner zu dick, wobei 21 Prozent als fettleibig, 3 Prozent sogar als schwer fettleibig einzustufen sind. Zwar liegt Medifast mit einem Umsatz von $17 Millionen noch weit hinter dem Hauptkonkurrenten Unilever, der mit SlimFast einen jährlichen Umsatz von $750 Millionen einfährt, zurück.

Doch Medifast will schon bald die Dominanz des Giganten brechen, weshalb das Unternehmen sein Werbebudget in diesem Jahr drastisch erhöht hat. Für seine jüngste Werbekampagne hat sich Medifast sogar den bekannten Sportsberichterstatter Dick Vitale auserkoren. Langfristig dürfte Medifast, angesichts der wachsenden Anzahl an Übergewichtigen, auch Anleger mit guten Gewinnen locken.

Anscheinend kann man mit nem Biotech Boersenbrief mehr Kohle machen als in der Biotechnologie selbst!
Oder reicht das Wissen unserer promovierten Expertin nicht aus um in Ihrem Job erfolgreich zu sein!
Fraglich ist ja nur, warum sie sich so für Nutrition21
einsetzt.

This is further to my previous posts regarding the results I’m experiencing with Chromax/Diachrome in controlling Diabetes.

Let me begin by stating my disappointment with the Quarterly and Year End results reported by NXXI, I have deep concerns about the ability of NXXI to adequately finance the roll-out of Diachrome after the 600 person clinical study next year. I have to take comfort in believing that an effective plan is in place to distribute this miracle product.

For those of you who haven’t followed my previous posts, here is a short recap:

Not being aware of the availability of Diachrome in the late part of May, I purchased and started using Chromax in early June. Although I noticed slight improvement in my condition by the time of my Dr. visit in the latter part of June, the results of my blood tests didn’t support what I perceived. I really didn’t expect miracles after only three weeks or so. I continued using Chromax to see if I would show visible results by the next Dr. appointment scheduled for the latter part of September.

While re-ordering Chromax in late August, I became aware of and purchased Diachrome, which I started using in addition to Chromax. Very shortly after using Diachrome, I noticed significant improvements in several areas, my ankles and feet were no longer swollen, the soles of my feet stopped tingling and aching, very old flea bites on the lower part of both legs started healing, lack of dizzy spells after moderate exertion, and generally a higher level of energy. Additionally, during my Dr. visit on September 22nd, it was determined that I lost 18 lbs. since my June visit. The Dr. drew blood during the September 22nd visit, but was unable to provide me with the test results until yesterday because he was out of town for the remainder of that week. Following is a comparison of fasting results between the June/September visits.

Blood Sugar (June/September) 188/132 = -56 (-29.8%)
HB A1c (June/September) 7.5/6.7 = -0.8 (-10.7%)
Cholesterol (June/September) 185/227 = +42 (+22.5%)**

** In preparing this report, I was very surprised by the low Cholesterol level I achieved in June; this is the first time in many years that it’s below 210. The only explanation is the use of Chromax prior to the June test? As for the jump to 227 in September, this is explained by my reckless diet for about 10 days prior to the September test, when I was purposely (foolishly) trying to test the effectiveness of Diachrome.

As far as I`m concerned the above results are nothing short of outstanding, considering the time period in question. I am certain that my next (November) test results will show even higher level of improvement then I have achieved thus far. As I stated in my previous post, I’m convinced that Diachrome is the Real Deal; Diachrome is to Diabetes what Celebrex is to Arthritis!!!

Unless something unexpected happens, I can’t envision Diachrome not being embraced by the medical community and vast majority of Diabetes victims.

In spite of my previously stated concerns, I`m still very Bullish on NXXI for the long term and intend to continue to accumulate on dips.

Nutrition 21, Inc. (Nasdaq: NXXI) - Bei an Diabetes des Typs 2 erkrankten Menschen konnte innerhalb von zwölf Wochen der erhöhte Blutzuckerspiegel durch das innovative "Patient Experience Programme" (PEP), dessen Ziel die Untersuchung einer Ernährungsergänzung mit Diachrome(TM), einer neuartigen Kombination

aus Chrom-Pikolinat und Biotin, ist, unter "realen" Bedingungen deutlich gesenkt werden. Die Ergebnisse des "Open-label"-PEP, das auch eine Ernährungs- und Diabetesberatung sowie eine Glukoseüberwachung mittels Diabeteserzieher umfasste, wurden heute anlässlich des Kongresses der International Diabetes Federation (IDF) vorgestellt.

An dem von Nutrition 21, Inc. entwickelten PEP waren von Diabetes-Erziehern betreute Patienten aus den gesamten Vereinigten Staaten beteiligt. Alle Patienten wiesen trotz mindestens halbjähriger oraler Einnahme hypoglykämischer Mittel erhöhte glykierte Hämoglobinwerte (HbA1c-Werte) oberhalb der Empfehlung der American Diabetes Association (ADA) von 7% oder weniger auf. HbA1c ist ein Marker der langfristigen Blutzuckerkontrolle. 30 Patienten erhielten erzieherische Materialien, Glukose-Überwachungsgeräte und das Nahrungsergänzungsmittel Diachrome, das sie täglich einnehmen mussten, während sie die Einnahme der ihnen verschriebenen Medikamente weiter fortführten. Jeder Patient machte Aufzeichnungen über seine individuelle Einhaltung der Testvorschriften sowie über die Ergebnisse der täglich durchgeführten Blutzuckermessungen. Nach 12 Wochen lies sich eine beträchtliche Verringerung des durchschnittlichen HbA1c-Spiegels von 1,1 feststellen. 18 der Teilnehmer am PEP, die vor Beginn der Testreihe einen HbA1c-Spiegel von über 8% aufgewiesen hatten, konnten eine Verringerung um 1,8 vorweisen, was eine über dem Durchschnitt liegende Verringerung darstellt.

"Die von mir betreuten Patienten haben durch die Teilnahme am PEP beträchtliche Verbesserungen bei der Kontrolle ihres Blutzuckerspiegels erreicht," sagte June I. Merica, ANP, CDE, Indian Health Services (IHS). "Bei einer meiner Patientinnen fiel der HbA1c-Wert von 11,8% auf 8,3%, bei einer anderen von 7,6% auf 6,3%."

New NIH-Funded Pilot Study Indicates Chromium Picolinate Supplementation May be an Effective Treatment for Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome -PCOS-

Promising Nutritional Therapy for 2 Million American Women Presented at American Society for Reproductive Medicine Conference (ASRM)


SAN ANTONIO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 15, 2003-- (Nutrition 21, Inc., Nasdaq:NXXI) -- Results of a new pilot study funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) showed that daily supplementation with 1,000 mcg of chromium as chromium picolinate significantly enhanced insulin sensitivity. These initial results offer a potential new nutritional therapy for approximately 2 million American women suffering from Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS). PCOS is a little-understood hormonal condition that is a leading cause of infertility, and is associated with insulin resistance, gestational diabetes and type 2 diabetes. The study was presented at the 59th Annual Meeting of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine Conference (ASRM) in San Antonio, Texas and appears in a supplement to Fertility and Sterility, September 2003.

an effort to build on limited PCOS treatment options, researchers at the State University of New York (SUNY), Stony Brook, analyzed the effects of nutritional supplementation with chromium in the form of Chromax® chromium picolinate on six women with PCOS. Results showed that glucose disposal rate (insulin sensitivity) was significantly increased by an average of 35% after two months of treatment, and baseline insulin levels decreased by 22%.

"Chromium picolinate, which has positive effects on insulin sensitivity in people with type 2 diabetes, looks like it has great potential as a safe, effective long-term therapy to fill a void in treating PCOS," said Michael L. Lydic, MD, assistant professor at SUNY Reproductive Endocrinology Division, who led the study. "If larger, controlled trials confirm chromium picolinate`s efficacy, PCOS patients could potentially take the supplement every day to decrease their risk of diabetes and possibly improve other physical and symptomatic effects of PCOS. It also has potential to be used in combination with prescription insulin-sensitizing drugs."

Today there is no FDA-approved drug specifically to treat PCOS. Some doctors prescribe insulin-sensitizing agents, such as metformin, however, many women experience unwanted side effects such as nausea, diarrhea, and loss of appetite, making ongoing treatment for insulin resistance prohibitive. Dr. Lydic added, "Our goal is to explore potential long-term therapies to bring insulin resistance under control and decrease risk of diabetes. Ideally, we hope to compare chromium picolinate with metformin in a clinical setting."

"An emerging body of research continues to confirm the hypothesis that chromium insufficiency is an important nutritional factor in insulin resistance which is strongly associated with the type 2 diabetes epidemic," said Gail Montgomery, President and CEO. Clinical Design

The study was a non-randomized, prospective study, which included six women of reproductive age (18 -42 years old) with PCOS and signs of insulin resistance. Hyperinsulinemic, euglycemic clamp tests, the most accurate measure of insulin sensitivity, were used on all subjects.

Researchers measured hormonal, physical and symptomatic effects of improved insulin function. They reported that one subject without menstrual cycles, who had the largest change in glucose disposal rate, had a spontaneous menstrual period after 2 months. No adverse side effects were reported among the study participants.

The study was funded by NIH grant (#M01RR10710), and product was supplied by Nutrition 21, Inc.

The more I watch NXXI, the more I’m convinced that I don’t have a clue as to how the stock market operates. I was under the impression that the market was forward looking in pricing of equities? If that is the case, I can’t understand why NXXI is languishing in its present trading range, someone must know something that is not being shared with Joe Blo investor?? As a user of Diachrome & Chromax, I have first hand knowledge that this product works as advertised, in my case it has exceeded expectations. Knowing what I know, I’m amazed that the stock is trading at such low prices?? The idea of purchasing the ingredients separately and recombining them in appropriate quantities to save a few cents isn’t a solution that appeals to me, and most probably 99.9% of potential users. The .01% of users willing to go that rout, is insignificant in the scheme of future potential. Additionally, I’m certain that if Diachrome is widely accepted as a valid solution in helping Diabetics, the present price of $29.95 for 60 days will drop to below $20 based on sales volume. What worries me is that somehow I’m missing a large part of this puzzle as to why NXXI isn’t trading above $20 and the low level of insider buying??

Having said the above, until someone can offer convincing proof to the contrary,I still have to consider NXXI a Strong Buy.

My aunt uses the diachrome to help fight her battle with Diabetes.....After doing some research I found out that NXXI holds the patent for Diachrome: Chromium Picolinate & Biotin combination

This company could very well be a Household Name when it comes to the battle of Diabetes and the preventative benefits from regular dosage!

My aunt has seen tremendous improvement and she was a NON-Believer at first!

PURCHASE, N.Y., Feb. 12 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Nutrition 21 (Nasdaq: NXXI - News) -- The University of Pennsylvania Department of Medicine today announced the initiation of a double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled human clinical trial to study the potential benefits of chromium picolinate supplementation in men and women diagnosed with Metabolic Syndrome. The study is funded by a grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The NIH National Cholesterol Education Program (NCEP) has identified Metabolic Syndrome as an important target of therapy, linked to increased risk of heart disease and type 2 diabetes, and affecting approximately 22% of Americans.

The new 20-week study will assess the effects of nutritional supplementation with 1,000 mcg of chromium per day, as chromium picolinate, compared to matching placebo, on insulin resistance and other cardiovascular clinical factors in adults with Metabolic Syndrome. The NCEP defines Metabolic Syndrome as a cluster of symptoms that include abdominal obesity, impaired glucose tolerance, dyslipidemia and raised blood pressure.

"The results from this clinical trial will provide solid data on chromium picolinate`s potential to impact key clinical factors in this high-risk, pre- diabetic population," according to Phillippe O. Szapary, MD, Assistant Professor of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania, and principal investigator of the study. "Supplemental chromium may serve as an attractive therapeutic option for patients diagnosed with Metabolic Syndrome."

Sixty subjects will include adult men and women who have been diagnosed with Metabolic Syndrome based on the NCEP guidelines.

This study will also quantify the effects of chromium picolinate supplementation on other important clinical factors including: serum HDL cholesterol, fasting triglycerides (TG), weight/body composition, and blood pressure.

In addition, the study will investigate the relationship between chromium status and effects on insulin sensitivity as well as the prevalence of chromium deficiency in people with Metabolic Syndrome.

Other exploratory aims of the research include investigation of chromium picolinate`s potential as an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory agent. Wie es mit diesem Papier weiter läuft kann wohl wirklich keiner sagen. Die FDA-Zulassungen waren ja klasse-wir wollen hoffen, dass hier noch ein paar gute Meldungen ins Haus flattern...

Vorerst würde ich nicht mehr kaufen; gekaufte Stücke aber weiterhin halten. Hier braucht man viel Geduld und starke nerven.

For the nine months ended March 31, the Company reported a net loss of $3.3 million ($0.09 per diluted share) on revenues of $7.4 million, compared to a net loss of $3.5 million ($0.11 per diluted share) on revenues of $8.8 million for the comparable period a year ago.
Gail Montgomery, President and CEO of the Company commented, "While revenues in the current year are lower, reflecting the discontinuance of the Lite Bites product line, fiscal third quarter gross profits were greater than the comparable period a year ago. We are pleased that our base ingredient business is improving and continues to offset a significant portion of the research and development expense associated with the launch of Chromax and Diachrome, our chromium-based therapeutic brands."

danke für den Hinweis! Habe meine 2 Börse-Inside Letters eben erst bekommen, d.h. die Masse der Mail kommt gerade erst. Bis alle Zocker reagiert haben, dauert es vielleicht noch 2 Stunden. Tippe mal auf Kurse von 0,90 bis 1,00 bis dahin. Was ist das eigentlich auf Xetra für `ne komische Angabe? Hat da jemand für 1,00 verkaufen können?

Würde aber demnächst solche Infos für Dich behalten, kapitalfahrt. Das verkürzt nur die Spanne der Reaktionszeit. Würde deshalb heute schon so gegen 13 Uhr verkaufen, weil hier im Board doch ein guter Prozentteil der heutigen Nutrition 21-Zocker vorbeischauen dürfte.

Klar kann die Aktie gut steigen, ohne Frage.
Mir gehts ja auch nur um dieses Mistblatt " Börse Inside ".
Die haben schon vieles empfohlen, ich hatte oft den Eindruck, dass sie die Masse manipulieren um anschließend selbst Kasse zu machen. Sollte sich jeder selbst einen Kopf machen, ich lasse mich nicht mehr von diesem Mistblatt inspirieren.

Global Biotech Investing

Die Experten von "Global Biotech Investing" raten den Anlegern bei Nutrition 21 (ISIN US67069V1089/ WKN 890068) einzusteigen.

Das Unternehmen habe sich bei der Entwicklung von nahrungsergänzenden Produkten vornehmlich auf die Erforschung von Chromax konzentriert. Chromax sei eine Chrom-Picolin-Verbindung zur Vorbeugung von Diabetes. In den nächsten Wochen werde die FDA darüber entscheiden, ob sich der Wirkstoff als medizinisch sinnvolle Vorbeugung gegen Diabetes eigne. Chromax sei von verschiedenen medizinischen Einrichtungen mehrfach als unbedenklich eingestuft worden. Nutrition 21 habe in mehreren Studien die Wirksamkeit bei der Regulierung des Blutzuckers unter Beweis gestellt.

Die FDA wolle bis spätestens November eine Entscheidung bekannt geben. Die Wertpapierexperten würden fest damit rechnen, dass diese positiv ausfallen werde. Anscheinend werde die Einschätzung auch von anderen geteilt. So hätten sowohl der CEO als auch der CFO eigene Aktien zum Kurs von 0,65 USD geordert.

Die Analystenhäuser würden dem Titel in den nächsten 3 Jahren ein Kursanstieg um knapp 1.200% auf 7,75 USD zutrauen. Als Bewertungsmaßstab habe man das KGV der Peer-Group genommen. Im Sektor bewege sich dieses im Schnitt bei 30, der Konkurrent Martek Bio habe sogar einen Wert von 107. Das KUV der Peer-Group habe einen Wert von 12, bei Martek Bio bewege er sich bei 14. Lege man diese Kennzahlen nun bei den erwarteten Unternehmensdaten von Nutrition 21 im Jahr 2007 an, müsste der Titel zwischen 6 und 9,50 USD notieren. Laut den Wertpapierexperten sollte Nutrition 21 schon in drei Jahren bei Umsätzen von 34 Mio. USD einen Gewinn von 0,20 USD je Aktie erwirtschaften.

Die Experten von "Global Biotech Investing" empfehlen die Nutrition-Aktie zum Kauf.

Wenn die Zulassung im November kommt, geht NXXI durch die Decke und alle müßen hinterher laufen. Das geht mir mit der Logik zu weit. komm ich nicht mit.
Wir werden dieses Jahr noch die 2Euro sehen. In einigen Jahren werden wir weitaus höhere Kurse sehen.
Ich habe mir einige tausend ins Depot gelegt und warte mal,
ob ich damit meine kommende Rente verbessern kann.
