Auto-Q International Inc. Unveils BusTrak Safety System for the Billion Dollar U.S. Market


LONDON, Sep 23, 2003 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via Comtex/ -- Auto-Q International
Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: AUTQ), a leading provider of vehicle tracking and
monitoring systems for trucking fleets and consumers, announced today that it
will be launching a new safety tracking device designed for school buses in the
U.S. Market called BusTrak.

The BusTrak Safety System is designed with the more than 23.5 million elementary
and secondary school children in mind who ride school buses daily throughout the
United States, twice a day. There are more than 450,000 yellow school buses that
provide transportation service daily nationwide to these children. The National
Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports an estimated 8,500 to 12,000
children injured in school bus accidents annually and an average of 11 children
are fatally injured inside school buses annually. Auto-Q International and
BusTrak are asking who is monitoring your children while they are on school
buses.

"Most parents wouldn`t place their child in a strange car without knowing
everything that`s going on, yet everyday parents put their kids on school buses
without the knowledge of where the buses are actually going, how fast the
drivers are driving the bus, and any other erratic driving which may effect the
safety of their children," commented Tom Lam, Auto-Q Chairman.

Many factors are associated with school bus accidents, including; erratic
driving, weather, speeding, improper bus maintenance, and, among others, driver
distraction.

A product similar to the Auto-Q FleetTrak System, called the BusTrak, is
expected to greatly reduce these accident statistics. BusTrak could improve
safety numbers by enabling school system bus dispatchers and administrators to
track each and every driver on each and every bus route. Auto-Q management
estimates the market for the BusTrak Safety System to be more than $1.35
billion.

Consequently, Auto-Q management also believes school administrators and
taxpayers will easily be able to afford these systems based upon the 5% fuel
savings Auto-Q`s other clients achieve through the use of FleetTrak. BusTrack
would enable school officials to track fuel usage and consumption, tire
pressure, oil pressure, brake pad wear, water level, washer level, and lights
provided the school bus has the capability of monitoring these features. This
would greatly reduce maintenance costs by informing mechanics of problems or
issues with the buses as they occur, instead of after something has broken or
become too worn for daily safe use. In addition, the system will monitor and
report harsh breaking, speeding, over revving of the engine and record the last
4 minutes of the bus trip, which is similar to an aircraft`s black box. Auto-Q
International expects to start pilot programs by the 2nd quarter 2004, and
launch the BusTrak Safety System regionally beginning in September 2004.

I interviewed Paul Spetch, a London-based director of this UK company, & am impressed with the appreciation prospects for the company`s European operations. AUTQ is a leading provider of vehicle tracking & monitoring systems for trucking fleets & consumers. Its products provide tracking, positioning, security, fuel monitoring, navigation, data acquisition, & reporting.

On 6/26/2003, AUTQ received purchase orders totaling $150,000 for the installation of its FleetTrak Tracking System on Walkers (Snacks) Distribution Ltd. vehicles. Walkers, a UK subsidiary of Pepsi Cola Corp. (NYSE/PEP), has a large trucking fleet to distribute its snack food products. AUTQ`s FleetTrak vehicle tracking system uses a combination of GPS (global positioning systems) technology & GSM signaling to provide intimate management reports on every vehicle in the fleet, continuously & in real time.

Walkers` main concerns are fuel consumption & accident reduction, which it is now better able to monitor. The benefits of the FleetTrak System to the transport manager include an immediate payback of a 5-10% fuel saving across a typical mixed fleet, along with longer vehicle life & lower maintenance. But the payoff goes way beyond mere economics. The system provides the fleet manager with a safeguard against the kind of heavy-footed, impatient driving that can lead to anything from a speeding ticket to a corporate manslaughter charge.

Walkers has installed the FleetTrak System on 225 vehicles & reports fuel savings of about 5% - that`s a huge payback on such a large fleet -- especially in the UK, where fuel is a fleet`s highest element of cost (fuel is heavily taxed in the UK).

Data transmitted from the cab via a `black box` enables the transport manager to monitor position, direction, speed, fuel flow, engine speed, & braking -- a complete picture of what the vehicle is doing & how it is being driven. The data can be used to compile regular vehicle management reports, revealing how both vehicle & driver are performing.

At a glance, the transport manager can see who`s getting heavy with the throttle or leaning on the brakes, & how often speed limits are broken or engines over-revved. An optional in-cab monitor enables the drivers to use the data themselves to improve their driving. Geofencing, a development of GPS, alerts the manager to any anomalous vehicle movements such as deviations from the route or late arrivals. An alarm is generated each time something irregular happens, so managers do not have to keep constant watch.

The system has been so well accepted by management & drivers alike that drivers now compete for regular performance prizes based on the data from FleetTrak. Walkers` national fleet engineer Dave Parkes says: "The system has won the interest & backing of the entire company."

The system can now be monitored throughout Europe. AUTQ is concentrating on the European market. I suspect that when it achieves an adequately large market share in Europe, the company may tackle the U.S. market, but that would not be for a few years. The fact that the cost of fuel in Europe is considerably higher than in the U.S. is of course a big part of that strategy.

A small but interesting application for AUTQ`s system is installation in railway locomotives where nuclear material is being transported.

Real-Time tracking is another feature offered by AUTQ. It`s automatic real-time theft notification. If one of the vehicles monitored by the Auto-Q Bureau is stolen, tracking commences immediately, & the position of the vehicle is updated every 30 seconds. The Bureau is supported by mapping & management software that enables managers to guide police with complete accuracy to the stolen vehicle. Since GSM coverage is in 150 countries, AUTQ`s after-theft monitoring systems are able to track stolen vehicles or assets well beyond the shores of the UK.

The GuardTrak system also provides an automatic theft alert, & remote shutdown capability. This system is applicable to passenger cars even more than it is to trucks. An interesting feature is covert installation, with no visible antennas in most cases.

AUTQ is still emerging to its commercialization phase. CEO Tom Lam recently commented: "Auto-Q is in a much stronger position for the immediate future. Our product & market development programs have been progressing well, which have resulted in six new orders totaling approximately $402,000 being received for delivery mainly before the end of July 2003. An extensive program of customer trials of our products with major trucking & local government fleets is taking place, giving us confidence of an increasing order flow."
