Breakthrough in Stand-Alone Asset Protection Opens New Market for C-Chip
Wednesday May 19, 4:46 pm ET

MONTREAL--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 19, 2004--C-Chip Technologies Corporation (OTCBB: CCHI - News; BERLIN:CCP - News) is pleased to announce that its R&D team has brought a solution to a security problem that had been eluding the security and asset management industry so far: the monitoring and protection of stand-alone assets with no power source.
At the request of a potentially large distributor, C-Chip initiated last March the development of a solution to secure and manage the movement of stand-alone assets with no power source. The first commercial application for this innovative product is for a Canadian company which is expected to use C-Chip`s device to protect and manage the movement of dumpsters used by the construction industry, garbage collection and others.

Currently branded as the SPP, whenever the device is attached to an asset which is being moved by an unauthorized party, a signal is sent in real time to the C-Chip security center indicating its path, speed, direction and location within a few feet so that necessary action can be taken by the authorized party. The SPP has been field tested to the satisfaction of a potential customer and an initial order is expected shortly. The SPP, a new and innovative device in the field of security monitoring, opens for C-Chip a new market representing significant potential in North America alone.

Stephane Solis, President and CEO of C-Chip indicated: "True to the mission of providing "high technology solutions to solve traditional business problems" our engineering team has proved one more time they are up to the challenge of monitoring and protecting static assets. Although still at the beginning of its projected growth, C-Chip is particularly well positioned to benefit from the many innovations its R&D team has pioneered."

      Stephane Solis
      President & CEO
      C-Chip Technologies Co.
      Interviewed by a Staff Writer

      Staff Writer (SW):
Stephane, can you tell us little about C-Chip Technologies and what it is you do?

      Stephane Solis (SS):

Certainly, C-Chip was formed in April 2000 to develop a technology enabling users to remotely access, control and manage just about any type of equipment or service from anywhere in the world using the internet. For instance, our first product, the Credit Manager makes it possible for financial institutions or leasing companies to remotely control assets that are financed or leased. This product is currently being installed in cars. We simply connect a sensor to the starter which can receive a signal to activate or deactivate the car. The application is simple, yet very effective. If the owner of the car does not make his monthly payment, the bank or financial institution now has the ability to disable the car at anytime wherever it is, using the Internet. This sensor can be installed in cars, but also in just about any type of equipment. We think this product will revolutionize the world of credit.

SW: Very interesting! Do you have other products and what are they being used for?

SS: Yes, we do. We also offer to our customers what we have branded as the Tracking Manager. Same principle, except that the Tracking Manager also allows customers to visualize where their assets are at all time using the Internet. The Tracking Manager has different business applications. For example, it can be used by insurance companies to locate and disable an asset that has been stolen, or possibly to monitor how cars are being used by their policyholders to adapt insurance premiums to the actual risk. The Tracking Manager is a tool that can also be used by fleet owners to follow where their vehicles are, where they are going and at what speed they are traveling. Increased efficiencies, better dispatching and on-time delivery, this is what the Tracking Manager offers to fleet owners. As you can see, we address ourselves to different potential customers. One of them, a large car dealer in California, is currently trying our product to locate the cars they have in inventory. They lose quite a bit of time locating cars on their various lots. The Tracking Manager will save them time and, best of all, it can be resold at a profit to consumers as an anti-theft device, and the owners potentially get a discount on their insurance premiums. A win-win for all.

      SW: Anything else?

SS: In fact, yes. We also have the Access Manager. This is a product that we have specifically developed for one of the largest insurance companies in the world. In our view, it is the best anti-theft device for vehicles available on the market today, literally “unbeatable”. In Canada, it will be offered to them on an exclusive basis at a price below US$100. Imagine, the next closest product will typically retail for US$350. In our case, it is a wireless device and we use RFID technology to identify authorized users. Our approach is modular. That is, a transponder attached to the key chain of the authorized user “talks” to wireless kill switches. If the transponder does not talk to the switches, very simply, the car will not start. Switches can be installed on the starter, fuel pump, transmission, ignition, door locks, or any combination thereof. Car theft is a major problem and we believe the best way to fight it is to render theft of vehicles almost impossible. This is what the Access Manager does.

SW: C-Chip seems to be in a truly exciting industry. What can you tell us about the industry?

SS: We are indeed positioned in a truly exciting industry, possibly the next big wave. Our industry is about mobility, communication, computing and the Internet. Some will call it the telematic industry, other sensor networking, and some will refer to it as the M2M (machine-to-machine) market which is about interconnecting machines with IT infrastructures and mobile assets. Personally, I don’t care how it is being referred to, what I know is that big business is about to unfold. According to McKinsey & Company, this is a market that is forecasted to attain US$100 billion in revenues worldwide by 2010. The Harbor Group suggests US$250 billion also by 2010 and the Wireless Data Research Group have an estimate of US$28 billion by 2007. I’m not a forecaster, but this is clearly a market that is emerging rapidly and bound to become very big. On this topic, I can refer you to a recent issue of Business Week (August 18-25). They have a special double issue on the future of technology and, according to them, we are in one of the hottest sectors.

SW: What are the main drivers behind this emerging industry?

SS: From a technical perspective, I would say that the most important factors are technical breakthroughs in wireless communications, open standard communications technologies and, naturally, the rise of the internet. On the business side, it is the increasing pressure to expand revenues, to rapidly improve operational efficiencies and lower costs that are driving many enterprises across major industries to adopt the technology that we offer.

SW: With such an outlook for the industry, there must be many companies in the marketplace?

SS: Yes, you are totally right. There are many companies that, in some respect, do have similar products or technology. We believe this is very positive for us for two reasons. First, when you have no competition, I believe you should in fact be worried. After all, if you have no competition, you might actually also have no market for your products or technology. Second, by not being alone in the marketplace, we don’t have to do concept sales or educate customers as to what the benefits are or the value-added that our products bring. They know, they’ve been already told. We simply have to focus on our competitive advantages and they are important.

SW: What are your competitive advantages?

SS: Simple. Whereas our competitors are focusing on bringing to the market costly and extensive solutions for the elite, we bring effective and low cost solutions for the masses. Our claim to fame lies in the fact that we are able to produce effective solutions, but at a much lower cost than our competitors, sometimes by a factor of as much as 50%. We like to think of ourselves and our products as what the Ford Model T has been to the automotive industry when this market was emerging. If this is the case, we are not about to be forgotten.

SW: What about your business model?

SS: Proven and very effective. Our business model is based on the razor and the blades. Our strategy is to sell razors or sensors initially, as many as possible, sometimes giving them at close to cost, and then sell blades or, in our case, request for information or tasks to be achieved remotely. By being able to capture customers, we ensure ourselves of an on-going stream of revenue. Clearly, our short-term focus will be on the top line of the income statement. This said, we will not be neglecting the bottom line either.

SW: C-Chip seems to have come from a long way. What have you achieved in the last year?

SS: Gee! Where do you want me to start? So many things have been accomplished. First and foremost, we have been able to bring our ideas and concepts into actual products with actual customers testing or buying what we offer. We have concluded our first distribution agreement in the US and we have more demand for our first product that what we can actually supply. We are about to introduce our second product, and major accounts have already requested a test drive. Many resellers are requesting that we do business with them. Finally, we took the Company public last January and we are about to conclude what will be for us a significant financing. Personally, I couldn’t be happier with our progress in the last year.

SW: What about the future. Where do see C-Chip one year from now?

SS: Whereas we have successfully focused on product development in the last year, we expect sales to be moving significantly forward in the next year. We have a strong product offering, very competitive. We are currently putting in place a solid sales infrastructure that will leverage large distribution channels. This along with a focused marketing push using both the internet and traditional media is expected to bring sales results that should be appreciated by the market.

SW: Maybe in closing Stephane you could comment on shareholders and your interest in that regard?

SS: Thanks for giving me the opportunity. Without our shareholders this would not have been possible and without their backing any future is not possible. You may want to talk about anything such as products, technology, market potential, competition, but at the end of the day, we are working for our shareholders and what matters to them are results. Simply said, at C-Chip we believe that it is by delivering results that our shareholders will see an increase in the value of their holdings and that is what we are working on.

die Abgabebereitschaft unter 1$ nimmt spürbar ab. Mein Tipp: In der nächsten Woche knacken wir die 1$-Marke und diesmal gehts dann auch über die 1,07 US$.
