Der meinte auf seiner 1971er Solo-Platte "Imagine", mindestens mit einem Hauch von Hochachtung, aber noch immer mit ziemlichem Hass darüber, dass Nebenbuhler Paul und nicht der eigentliche Chef, also Lennon selbst, das Ende der Band verkündet hatte: "The only thing you done was yesterday".

na gut, meine Antwort also auch hier ...

Die Aufnahme Dig It entstammt einer etwa 30-minütigen Improvisation. Der Text, der während der Jam-Session gesungen wurde, bestand lediglich in einer Aufzählung von Titeln, Begriffen und Namen, die John und Paul gerade einfielen. Den Übergang (das ist der von dir in Klammern gesetzte Teil) zum nächsten Stück (Let It Be) sprach John dann mit Kopfstimme.

Auf der LP/CD dauert der Titel knapp 50 Sekunden, im Film sind rund 3 1/2 Minuten zu hören.

was Du alles weißt

und auf dieser - von Paul McCartney zusammengestellten - CD ist der von mir gepostete Song überraschenderweise überhaupt nicht mehr zu hören



Das Textfragment "Like a rolling stone" bezog sich natürlich auf Bob Dylans gleichnamigen Song (war ja auch sehr schwer zu erraten ).

Und Johns Ankündigung "Hark The Angels Come" auf das folgende, von ihm gehasste Let It Be muss Paul, der die Endfassung der LP vor ihrer Veröffentlichung nicht zu hören bekam, tief getroffen haben. Dabei ging es in den Lyrics dieses Songs gar nicht um die biblische Maria, sondern um Pauls verstorbene Mutter Mary

ist natürlich nachvollziehbar.
Doch wurde dazu auch schon argumentiert, dass hier auch ein Ausdruck der Trauer zum Ausdruck kommen sollte.
Diese ist in fernöstlichen Ländern ja bekanntlich weiss.

Die abgelieferten Begründungen für das Weisse Album klingen allesamt recht plausibel. Ich könnte mir aber auch vorstellen, dass es sich schlicht & einfach um einen Psycho-Trick handelt, um dem Beatles-Werk unter all den in den Regalen lagernden bunten Alben die gebührende Aufmerksamkeit zukommen zu lassen. Helter Skelter" ist zusammen mit " A Day In The Life" mein lieblingslied der Beatles. damit haben für mich die Beatles 10 jahre vor der punkrevolution schon ein echtes punklied aufgenommen. ich habe Helter Skelter genau zu dieser zeit, als die Pistols rauskamen, das erste mal, ohne zu wissen wer es war, im radio gehört und montelang gesucht von wem es sein könnte, da ich gedacht hatte es stammt von einer der neuen punkbands... als John Peel dann die Siouxie And The Banshees“ version des songs im BFBS spielte und sagte es sei eine coverversion des alten Lennon/McCartney songs fiel bei mir der groschen und die kinnlade vor überraschung...

Da hätte ich auch etwas nach diesem Royal Weekend Passendes zum "Long Medley" auf der B-Seite von Abbey Road. Dieses kleine Solostückchen von Paul McCartney (vocal, acoustic guitar) sollte ursprünglich zwischen Mean Mr Mustard und Polythene Pam platziert werden.



Paul wollte es dann aber doch herausgeschnitten und weggeworfen haben. Der zweite Aufnahmeleiter John Kurlander machte letzteres nicht, sondern pappte den Soundschnipsel als "hidden song" an das Ende der Platte, mit 20 Sekunden Abstand zu dem als letzten Song genannten The End.



Den Beatles gefiel dieser Effekt, und so blieb es dann

Eine Band steht auf der Bühne und spielt eine Nummer. Irgendwann geht die zuende und da kann man das Stück nicht langsam ausblenden, sondern muss ein Ende finden. Gut, habe ich auch schon erlebt, dass sich Interpreten aus einem Titel mogelten - klingt aber nicht gut. Die Beatles hatten jahrelange Bühnenerfahrung, als sie 1962 mit ihren Plattenproduktionen begannen. Die wussten, was ein ‚Cold-Cut’ ist: eine sogenannte ‚komponierte Schlusswendung’. Irgendwann entdeckten die Beatles aber auch das ‚Fade-Out’, eben dieses sich langsam aus dem Titel ausblenden. Wenn man sich aus einem Stück ausblenden kann, muss doch auch eine Einblendung möglich sein. Gesagt, getan. Bei dem Titel "Eight Days A Week", der heute vor genau 40 Jahren Platz 1 der amerikanischen Hitparade erreichte, probierten die Beatles erstmals ein ‚Fade-In’, also eine Aufblende, ein lauter werdendes Intro. Sicher eine geniale Idee, die allerdings damals von kaum jemand bemerkt wurde. Das Lied war ursprünglich als Titelsong für den Film "Eight Arms To Hold You" gedacht, der hieß dann allerding später "Help". In den USA wurde "Eight Days A Week" also eine Nummer 1. In ihrem Heimatland wurde die Platte nicht als Single veröffentlicht - damals zumindest nicht.

While at his retreat, it has been said that the Maharishi attempted to rape Mia Farrow Once The Beatles learned of this, they immediately went to the Maharishi, and Lennon announced they were all leaving. The Maharishi asked why? Lennon said, "If you`re so cosmic, you`ll know why." As originally written, some of its lyrics were considered obscene, and had to be refined. Lennon had used the Maharishi`s name, but had to change it for fear of being sued. But, Sexy Sadie is the Maharishi. Needless to say, that was the end of the Maharishi and The Beatles relationship

#47: Der starke Rocker I Saw Her Standing There wurde entgegen meiner Erinnerung und den üblichen Rollenklischees fast vollständig von dem oft als Schnulzenheini abgetanen Paul McCartney geschrieben (Ende 1962) und gesungen. John Lennon hat den Song aber hochgeschätzt und später auch bei Soloauftritten dargeboten. Zur Ehrenrettung von Paul eine weitere ganz frühe Nummer vom Mai 1963, die ganz offensichtlich von ihm ist. Der Titel von der LP With The Beatles sollte zwar nicht als Single erscheinen, war aber beim Publikum so gefragt, dass er in England als EP herausgebracht wurde.

- Diese LP da steht auch in meinem Plattenschrank.

Die LP enthält auch die im Februar 1970 erschienen Single Instant Karma. Zur Steigerung der Popularität der Single ließ sich John Lennon sogar zu einem Auftritt im britischen Fernsehen überreden, zusammen mit seiner Plastic Ono Bnd. Damit spielte zum ersten Mal nach über fünf Jahren wieder ein Mitglied der Beatles live im Fernsehen.

Jahr: 1967
"All you need is love" war sozusagen eine Auftragskomposition. John Lennon ist sich in Nachhinein zwar nicht ganz sicher gewesen, ob er das Lied neu geschrieben hat, oder Material verwendet hat, das sowieso gerade in Arbeit war. Der Auftrag war auf jeden Fall, für "Our World", die erste Fernsehsendung, die live über Satellit übertragen wurde, und somit in 24 Ländern schätzungsweise von 300 - 400 Millionen Menschen gesehen werden konnte, einen Song zu komponieren und damit England zu vertreten. Teil der Aufgabe war damit auch, einen Text zu schreiben, der sozusagen universell verständlich war.
Diese Aufgabe hat Lennon sicherlich grandios gelöst. In Erinnerung sind die Bilder der Beatles als lebende Litfasssäulen, die diese Botschaft - dass wir nur die Liebe brauchen - in viele Sprachen übersetzt in die Welt hinaustrugen.
