aktuelSatCon Receives over $ 1.3 Million in New Fuel Cell Electronics Orders
SatCon Technology Corporation(R) (Nasdaq NM: SATC), a developer and manufacturer of power electronics and motors for the alternative energy markets, announced that it has received a new purchase order totaling in excess of $1.3 million for its fuel cell Power Conditioning Units (PCUs). Delivery of the units is scheduled over the next six to twelve months.
The PCUs are designed for use with alternative energy power systems to generate electrical power in office buildings, small factories, hotels and similar facilities. These systems need high-power, high-reliability electronics and controls to convert their power to useable AC power that can then be delivered to the individual user or application. SatCon`s electronics enable these alternative energy systems to be utility grid compatible in order to be tied to the existing electric utility grid. Alternative energy systems can alleviate congestion on highly loaded utility distribution networks and offer an alternative to power line extensions in remote areas.
" Sales for our PCUs for alternative energy applications are strong and growing," said Millard Firebaugh, President and COO of SatCon Technology Corporation. " SatCon has sold over 100 units at the 30 to 225 kilowatts power levels and 40 units at power levels above 300 kilowatts since we entered the PCU market for alternative energy applications including fuel cells, solar-photovoltaics and advanced battery applications. The world-wide market for higher power PCUs, by various analysts` estimates will grow from about $95 million per year to over $575 million per year over the next six years. Good news for SatCon."

SatCon Launches New Products for Use in Hybrid Electric Vehicles
SatCon Technology Corporation (NASDAQ NM: SATC), a leading developer and manufacturer of power electronics and motors today announced it has begun shipping products both domestically and internationally from its new line of modular built HEV products consisting of high voltage electrical and electronic components capable of input voltages up to 450 Vdc for use in the hybrid electric vehicle markets. The first set of vehicle-qualified products includes a 5 Hp brushless motor; drive controller (30 Amp peak), and a DC/DC converter rated at 12 Vdc and 120 Amps continuous.
SatCon President & COO Millard Firebaugh stated " The HEV market sector is a prime area of focus for SatCon. To this end, we are commercializing a suite of products including scalable traction motors, generators and smart battery chargers specifically aimed at this market. We expect to grow this aspect of our business aggressively in the future leveraging upon our extensive experience base in Hybrid Electric Vehicle technology" .
In addition to the launch of the new products listed above, SatCon is also pursuing vehicle drive components for the propulsion system of vehicles. All of these products are designed to meet thermal and environmental exposure in vehicle applications. Some examples of the uses of these components would be for off-road applications, delivery vehicles, particularly in city stop-and-go applications, and in small-to-medium size fleet vehicles such as taxi, and mail delivery vehicles. These are all services in which HEV`s are particularly efficient in reducing fuel consumption.
The Company`s products are based on SatCon`s leading technical component capabilities and their systems integration experience in the hybrid and electric vehicle automotive market over the past 15 years. SatCon has extensive capabilities and experience in providing key power systems, such as hybrid and electric drive systems, for various transportation projects including buses, trucks, vans and prototype vehicles.
