Third Quarter 2017 and recent highlights included:
Posted third consecutive quarter of sequential growth and record revenue. Revenue for the third quarter 2017 was $1,405,100 or an increase of 141% compared to $582,549 for the third quarter of 2016.
Vuzix quarterly smart glasses revenues eclipsed $1,000,000 for the first time in the Company's history with $1,027,397 of sales, an increase of 171% compared to $379,053 for the third quarter of 2016, representing sequential growth of 45% compared to the second quarter of 2017.
Recognized $266,687 of engineering services revenues during the third quarter on our enterprise smart glasses development project with Toshiba. The remaining development work associated with Toshiba is expected to be completed in the fourth quarter, which will result in approximately $221,000 of revenue in the fourth quarter and the delivery of PVT devices. Vuzix expects to move this new product into volume production for Toshiba in early 2018.
Realized further improvements in the gross margins on sales of the M300 Smart Glasses now that offshore volume manufacturing has been brought online.
Added a new Tier-1 consumer electronics firm focused on integrating our waveguide and display engine technology into their future consumer products roadmap.
Management Commentary
"We saw direct product gross margin improvements from our flagship enterprise device, the M300 in the third quarter compared to the second quarter of 2017.  And while our third quarter smart glasses sales were impacted by limited supply of inventory due to some manufacturing challenges related to the M300, the Company achieved record quarterly smart glasses product revenue despite these headwinds," said Paul Travers, President and CEO of Vuzix.  "The manufacturing challenges have been addressed by our offshore contract manufacturer and their production line is now producing M300s in high volume. During the third quarter, we continued to leverage our industry leading optics and wearable display technology and added a third Tier-1 consumer electronic customer.  This new Tier-1 customer is working with us to develop a consumer product using Vuzix waveguides and projector engines that is unrelated to smart glasses.

„Subsequent to September 30, 2017, the Company entered into Technology Acquisition Agreement where it acquired all the seller's right, title and interest in certain Transferred Intellectual Property (IP). Pursuant to the agreement, the Company will pay approximately $75,702 as reimbursement of related patent applications to date. Further the Company will issue up to a total of 100,000 restricted shares of common stock as follows (i) 25,000 shares shall be issued upon the closing; (ii) a further 25,000 shares after the Company has successfully developed a working demonstrator system utilizing the IP; and (iii) 50,000 shares once the Company completes the successful commercialization of products containing the IP for sale in the marketplace. Management of the Company estimates that it will take up to 24 months and approximately $200,000 in new R&D spending to achieve the first development milestone of a functional demonstrator model. In addition to cash and equity payments, the Company will be required to pay a currency based royalty per product when the IP is commercially sold and incorporated into products.“

Hier musste man m.E. dafür zahlen die IP (Patente) von jmd. nutzen zu dürfen. Da man nicht jedes Patent umgehen kann ist das durchaus üblich.

Und wo ist jetzt das riesen Problem?

- die Produktion haben sie jetzt im Griff (hohe Ausschussrate im Ramp-Up ist nicht so ungewöhnlich, wichtiger ist, dass es abgestellt wird)
- anscheinend musste man für fremde IP zahlen (ist jetzt auch nix ungewöhnliches, die Höhe der Zahlungen kann ich nicht bewerten)
- die iWear wurde mit 1.2Mio abgeschrieben
- es scheint drei Tier1 für Blade-Komponenten zu geben (bisher nur zwei?)
- man rechnet in Sachen Toshiba mit 5Mio Umsatz in 2018
- geringere Entwicklungsleistungen für zukünftige Produkte (man fühlt sich gut aufgestellt: M300, B3000 und M3000?)
- ich habe jetzt auch verstanden warum Intel weiterhin die Preferred-Stocks hält: 6% Verzinsung

Das After-Hour-Volumen von 6.600 Stck. spricht jetzt auch nicht dafür, dass die Amis in Panik verfallen. Mal den call abwarten - bin gespannt.

Wahnsinn! Über 10% des Umsatzes gehen für Frachtkosten drauf. Lassen sie die Dinger einzeln First Class einfliegen?

Ich trink jetzt erstmal einen, aber eher aus Frust (habe gerade Urlaub).
Wirklich, es ist fast nicht mehr zu ertragen. Jedes mal der selbe Mist, jedes Mal die Meldung "Bald, aber wirklich bald kommt der Durchbruch". Wie lange will man die Investoren eigentlich noch verarschen?
Bei den Kosten müssten die pro Quartal schon 10.000 Einheiten verkaufen um überhaupt mal Gewinn zu machen, das ist doch lächerlich ohne Ende.
Morgen kriegt Travers noch ne E-Mail von mir, die hat's in sich.

Für die waveguides soll ein 3.Tier1 Partner da sein.
Leider find ich nix,geh auch jetzt lieber schlafen.
