Ovid Therapeutics' experimentelles Medikament für eine fatale seltene Krankheit hat in einer entscheidenden klinischen Studie der Phase 3 gegenüber Placebo den primären Endpunkt nicht erreicht, sagte das Unternehmen am Dienstag.

In die Studie wurden 97 Kinder mit Angelman-Syndrom, einer seltenen genetischen Störung, die Anfälle und schwere kognitive Beeinträchtigungen verursacht, aufgenommen und randomisiert, um entweder das Medikament von Ovid, OV101, oder ein Placebo zu verabreichen. Nach 12 Wochen war eine tägliche orale Dosis OV101 nicht besser als ein Placebo, um die Symptome des Angelman-Syndroms zu verbessern, zu denen Schlafstörungen, Sprachunfähigkeit, verzögerte motorische Entwicklung und geistige Behinderung gehören.

OV101 war das am weitesten entwickelte Medikament des Unternehmens. In einer früheren Studie mit 88 Patienten war das Medikament auf einer Sieben-Punkte-Skala besser als Placebo , mit der Ärzte bewerten, ob sich die Symptome der Patienten verändern. Die FDA hat diese Skala laut Ovid akzeptiert und das Unternehmen aufgefordert, diese in einer zweiten Studie zu bestätigen. Wäre diese Studie positiv verlaufen, hätte Ovid bei der FDA due Zulassung für OV101 beantragt.
