Metabox Unveils Set-Top Boxes;
Production to Start in January

FRANKFURT -- Neuer Markt-listed Metabox AG on Wednesday announced its entry to the world of interactive and digital television with the presentation of its new set-top box, the Metabox 1,000.

The Metabox 1,000 -- which is set to go into production in January at a rate of around 20,000 to 30,000 boxes per month, according to board member Geerd Ulrich Ebeling -- will allow the playback of compact discs, digital video discs and MP-3 files as well as the reception of pay-television and the downloading of feature films from the Internet.

Metabox`s existing offer is aimed at enabling Internet reception over a television set. But the Internet is set to play a subordinate role in the marketing of the Metabox 1,000. Chief Executive Stefan Domeyer said the company sees its market as residing among the audience for standard television programs, not what he calls "Internet freaks."

Mr. Ebeling said the new product will initially be aimed at the European market, with the Asian markets to follow from mid-2001. Unlike its existing set-top boxes, the new product will be sold not through standard retailers but through outlets such as online traders or cable-network operators.

According to Mr. Domeyer, there are already twenty versions of the Metabox 1,000. For orders of 100,000 boxes or more, the unit price will be between $270 and $725. He said orders from two big clients already accounted for a total of 600,000 units.

He did not reveal the identities of these clients. But he confirmed that one was the Israeli client whose order for 500,000 boxes had already been announced in April of this year, while the second was a British client whose order for 100,000 boxes had been announced at the end of November.

Over the summer, Metabox announced it had signed a letter of intent with Scandinavian consortium Internordic, providing for the supply of 1.8 million set-top boxes.

But on Wednesday, Mr. Domeyer was muted when discussing this topic. He said things had not come together as quickly as hoped, and the consortium had not yet come together. But sufficient progress had been made to ensure that it would be premature to abandon the letter of intent.

Over the summer, Metabox also announced a framework agreement to supply 500,000 boxes to French group Worldsat. Mr. Dolmeyer said he was expecting delivery to start in the second quarter of 2001.

Mr. Domeyer said he was holding firm to his sales forecast of 600 million marks ($269.2 million or 306.8 million euros) for fiscal 2001. He said sales for fiscal 2000 would come in at 70 million marks, even though a figure of just 32 million marks had been recorded for the nine-month period.

hier steht, daß im/ab dem 2 Quartal 2001 Worldsat mit 500 000 Boxen beliefert wird.OK, es wird erwartet!

ich sach nur China....DER Zukunftsmarkt überhaupt.
Wäre wirklich super wenn sich Metabox dort positionieren könnte.


aber: Dann kommen die basher wieder mit dem Argument...."China...viel zu klein"...."zuwenig Leute"

In China könnte ich mir auch einen Absatz von c.5 Millionen oder mehr vorstellen.

Man kann aus der Vergangenheit sehr viel lernen!!

Jeder ist für sein Investment selbst verantwortlich, da
er vom lieben Gott ein Kopf geschenkt bekommen hat. Ich
habe gelernt, man soll nicht kopflos durch die Welt rennen.

Ich bin mir der Restrisiken bewußt und habe nach Abwägung
des Chance/Risikoverhältnisses in mbx investiert.
