LG Electronics will unveil world-class digital home appliance products at IFA (Internationale Funkausstellung) 2001 held from August 25 to September 2 in Berlin, Germany.

At the exhibition, LGE will have its own large-scale (about 660 square meters) booth decorated with the theme ¡°LG ? Digitally Yours.¡± Exhibited products will include 60- and 40-inch digital PDP TV, digital projection TV, 29-inch LCD TV, portable DVD player, home theater DVD system, DVD recorder, MP3 player, and iris recognition security system (Iris Access 3000). LGE plans to use this opportunity of the largest consumer electronics fair in Europe as the venue for launching its digital products in Europe, which includes products that already earned global recognition such as PDP TV and DVD related products.

In particular, LGE¡¯s 40-inch digital PDP (Plasma Display Panel) TV is ultra slim with a thickness of only 7.8cm. This wall-hanging TV is only a sixth in thickness compared to projection TVs of the same grade. LGE¡¯s 60-inch PDP TV is also the world¡¯s first high resolution (HD grade, 1365 x 768) digital TV.

At this year¡¯s IFA, LGE aims to: ¢º promote LG as a digital brand; and ¢º use the fair as an opportunity to promote its new products and new technologies to stimulate sales through strengthened marketing efforts.

IFA (Internationale Funkausstellung) which celebrates its 30th anniversary this year is Europe¡¯s biggest exhibition of consumer electronics products and is held in Berlin, Germany every two years. It is especially known for the world¡¯s best exhibition of AV products.

Subject : LG Electronics to Boost This Year`s R&D Expenditure to 1.4 Billion

Seoul, Sept. 6 (Yonhap) -- LG Electronics Co. said Thursday it will
increase this year`s researches and developments investments for electronics
operations to 1.4 trillion won (US$1.07 billion), 200 billion won more than
originally earmarked.

The increase in the R&D investment is aimed at building up its operations
of digital displays and next-generation mobile phones as future growth
industries.

The company said its R&D investment next year will hit 1.7 trillion won, up
22 percent from this year, with half going to development of digital displays
and next-generation mobile phones.

At a strategy meeting of top executives held earlier in the day, LG decided
to make sustained investments in developing key products of digital displays,
including digital TVs and plasma display panels.

The company will also key into such strategic markets as China to increase
brand recognition and international sales.
