DaimlerChrysler Sells Adtranz to Bombardier

MONTREAL (Reuters) - In a widely anticipated deal, DaimlerChrysler
has agreed to sell its rail systems unit Adtranz to transportation and
aerospace company Bombardier Inc. for $725 million cash, the
companies said on Friday.

Bombardier, which makes railcars and regional jets, said in a statement
that proceeds from the planned sale of Adtranz`s soon-to-be-sold fixed
installations and signaling business would cut the net purchase price for
Bombardier.

The Montreal-based company and the German-American automaker
have long been in talks on a deal and heightened speculation pushed
Bombardier shares higher in brisk trade before the stock was halted on
Thursday afternoon.

The sale will positively affect DaimlerChrysler`s earnings, the
companies said. It is subject to approval by regulators and
DaimlerChrysler`s Supervisory Board.

Adtranz will broaden Bombardier`s product offering, giving it access to
technologies such as propulsion systems, train control and
communications systems and electric locomotives, and help it compete,
Bombardier said.

``The combination of Bombardier Transportation and Adtranz will
position the new entity among the industry leaders in all activities related
to the production of rail vehicles in world markets,`` Bombardier
president and chief executive Robert E. Brown said in a statement.

``This acquisition would complement our transportation activities in
terms of geographical markets, products and services, broader
capabilities, expertise and assets.``

Adtranz has 22,000 employees, including 3,600 at fixed installations and
signaling, and operates in 19 countries on four continents. Its 1999
revenues totaled C$5 billion ($3.4 billion). Bombardier Transportation
has 16,000 workers and boasted sales for fiscal 2000 ending January 31
of C$3.4 billion.

``Having progressively increased Adtranz`s performance to a breakeven
point, it is now an appropriate time to place Adtranz with a company
which values rail activities as one of its core businesses,`` said Jurgen
Schrempp, DaimlerChrysler management board chairman, in a
statement.

``We feel Bombardier is the company best equipped to take Adtranz
into the future.``

Bombardier shares were halted at C$23.80 on the Toronto Stock
Exchange on Thursday, versus a 52-week peak of C$24.50, and the
company said it would make a Friday morning announcement on the
high activity in its stock.

Sag ich doch schon immer, es gibt so viele gut Aktien, bei dem man alles verschlafen kann und immer mit mehr % aufwacht. Mein Depot glänzt auch mit Bombardier und noch mehr Gewinn, habe sie seit 1998.

Eine General-Electric-Tochter orderte jetzt 50 Flugzeuge im Wert von 1,3 Milliarden Dollar. Zudem wurde eine Option über die Ausweitung des Auftrages bis aus 3,9 Milliarden Dollar erworben.
Die gute Story geht für Aktionäre weiter !!

Financial Results of Bombardier Inc. for the Second Quarter and the Six Months Ended July 31, 2000

Montréal, August 22, 2000- Consolidated revenues of Bombardier Inc. for the quarter ended July 31, 2000 reached $3.4 billion, an 8% increase over the revenues of $3.2 billion for the same period last year. Net income for the quarter, before the net effect of the special item, rose to $210.1 million, an increase of 24% compared to a net income of $169.1 million for the same period last year. Earnings per share, before the net effect of the special item, rose to $0.16 from $0.12 the previous year, a 33% increase. After the effect of the special item of $49.8 million ($44.0 million after tax), net income for the quarter amounted to $254.1 million, or $0.19 per share.
For the six months ended July 31, 2000, consolidated revenues totalled $6.7 billion, an 11% increase over the revenues of $6.0 billion for the same period last year. Net income, before the net effect of the special items, rose to $405.2 million, an increase of 29% compared to a net income of $313.6 million for the same period last year. Earnings per share, for the six-month period, before the net effect of the special items, rose to $0.29 from $0.22 the previous year, a 32% increase. After the effect of the special items of $29.7 million ($3.7 million after tax), net income for the six-month period amounted to $401.5 million, or $0.29 per share.

The special items consist of a charge of $79.5 million ($47.7 million after tax) provided for in the first quarter as additional provision for bad debt related to the small item portfolio of Bombardier Capital. This special charge was offset by a net gain of $49.8 million ($44.0 million after tax) in the second quarter on the divestiture of Bombardier Services (UK) Limited`s defence service business in the United Kingdom.

Bombardier`s order backlog at July 31, 2000 reached $30.9 billion, a 19% increase over the $26.0 billion backlog at the end of the second quarter last year. In aerospace, the backlog increased from $17.6 billion last year to $23.0 billion at July 31, 2000 and in transportation, it went from $8.4 billion to $7.9 billion. The decrease of Bombardier Transportation`s order backlog is mainly the result of changes in the exchange rate of the euro compared to the Canadian dollar.

Ja, Bombardier ist neben Amgen und Medtronic wirklich eine der ganz wenigen Perlen :-)

Ich bin auch in Bombardier investiert und zwar schon seit fast 3 Jahren. Ich habe einen Freund der bei Bombardier Aviation Service an- gefangen hat, dann zu Lufthansa Bombardier A.S. ging und nun von Daimler Chrysler abgeworben worden ist. Er hatte weltweit die Privatleute mit Learjets betreut. Nun ist er auf die Kundenseite gewechselt. Daimler verfügt über drei Learjets. Ihr sprecht immer nur von dem Waggonbau. Betrachtet euch mal den Executive Bereich in der Fliegerbranche. Da ist Bombardier mit die Nummer eins! Die bauen Learjets und auch für den Mittelstreckenbereich (benutzt unter anderem LH City Line) Jets. Die Auftragsbücher sind auch hier für die nächsten Jahre voll. Das weiß ich aus guter Quelle und man kommt auch selber darauf, wenn man sich den Markt anschaut und das enorme Wachstum in der Touristik in den nächsten Jahren. Für mich ist die Aktie ein absoluter Kauf!!!!!
