TheCoveredCall.com: Bush or Gore? Certain stocks could benefit
      OCT 11, 2000, M2 Communications -

For years the United States has ignored the predicted energy crunch. What with low gas prices and back-to-back mild winters and the talk of the "green-house" effect, few of us have cared about using alternative power sources. But that will change in January 2001. Shocked over rising energy prices and concerned by predictions that our oil supplies are growing dangerously tight, some lawmakers already are working on measures that would offer tax breaks to encourage the building of new generating facilities. If additional power doesn`t soon come on line, they say, Washington stands to lose an important economic advantage. "The one thing we have is low-cost power," says Rep. Larry Crouse, a Spokane Republican and co-chairman of the House Technology, Telecommunications and Energy Committee, "and that allows us to compete effectively. We have to step up to the plate to get a new generation [of power plants] sited, and keep power costs low."

Republicans seem to favor plants fueled by natural gas, while Democrats are leaning toward supporting alternative generating sources, such as wind and sun. Environmentalists, meanwhile, say conservation needs a new emphasis. Thus if the Democrats win look for the following alternative power source players to benefit. If the Republicans win then natural gas related issues including drilling firm Global Marine (NYSE: GLM chart, msgs).

Alternative power companies to watch if Gore is elected:

AstroPower Inc. (NASDAQ: APWR chart, msgs) develops, manufactures, markets and sells a range of solar electric power products for the global marketplace. The Company currently sells five classes of products: solar cells, modules, panels, systems and solar electricity. The Company`s products are used to generate electricity for users not connected to the utility grid. These applications include electrification of rural homes and villages, and power supply for equipment in the communications and transportation industries.

AstroPower`s products are also used by customers already connected to the utility grid as a clean, renewable source of alternative or supplemental electricity. Additionally, the Company recently expanded a joint venture agreement with GPU International to generate wholesale solar electric power.

FuelCell Energy, Inc. (NASDAQ: FCEL chart, msgs) is a developer of electrochemical technologies for electric power generation and has developed a proprietary patented fuel cell known as the Direct FuelCell. A fuel cell is a device that electrochemically converts the chemical energy of a fossil fuel into electricity without the combustion of fuel. The fuel cell system feeds a fuel, such as natural gas, into the fuel cell where the fuel and air undergo an electrochemical reaction to produce electricity. The Company manufactures carbonate fuel cells, generally on a contract basis.

H Power (NASDAQ: HPOW chart, msgs) is a leading fuel cell development company that designs and markets proton-exchange membrane fuel cells designed to provide electricity for a wide range of stationary, portable and mobile applications. For the FY ended 5/31/00, revenues rose from $1M to $3.7M.

Net loss applic. to Com. rose from $7M to $17.2M. Results reflect new contracts with Naval Surface Warfare Center & Nat`l Institute of Standards & Tech. and higher operating expense.

Millinium Cell (NASDAQ: MCEL chart, msgs) is an emerging technology company engaged in the development of a patented alternative energy source based on boron chemistry, generating energy in the form of hydrogen or electricity. For the three months ended 3/31/00, the Company reported no revenue. Net loss totaled $422 thousand, up from $162 thousand. Higher loss reflects higher product development costs due to the increased staffing required to further the technology

Tipp vom Küken! Der neue Markt ist zwar momentan wieder "Preiswerter" aber ich kann mit Sicherheit sagen, das diese Werte überproportional performen werden. Nich zu vergessen Ballar Power
