Many investors feel it will drop to just a few cents on Monday, as some stockholders were at work on Friday, or did not have access to the latest quotes......
Police Raid Starnet
Communications!
Close to 140 police officers raid Starnet!
The company was involved in illegal gambling, gaming, betting and
distribution of prohibited child pornography. The raid immediately
triggered a massive panic sell-off of the company`s stock, resulting in
the largest drop on U.S. markets of the day.
Search warrant documents indicate the police believe Starnet was not only
involved in
illegal gambling and bet-taking, but also possession and distribution of obscene
material and child pornography and possession of the proceeds of crime.
Panicked investors dumped more than 10.6 million shares, shearing nearly 70
per cent
off the price, with no signs that would be the bottom. Many investors feel it will
drop
to just a few cents on Monday, as some stockholders were at work on Friday, or
did
not have access to the latest quotes. A large number of people are saying the
likely
price range for Monday should be between 10 and 40 cents, with many saying it
may
go as low as 1 cent.
The stock may be suspended from trading as early as Monday, and the shares
not
worth the paper they are printed on.
A big Starnet stockholder told Gambling Magazine, he will "cut his losses and
get
out of this junk company who is corrupted and rotten to the bones". We could
not agree more.
RCMP Corporal Frank Henley, a Police officer said:
"Our people have control of their company. There is nothing coming out of their
Vancouver offices and they are shut down here."
Police will likely remain in remain in control of the offices over the weekend and
maybe much longer.
"This is a major investigation of a major company" said Constable Anne
Drennan, a spokeswoman for the Co-ordinated Law Enforcement Unit, which has
been set up by the RCMP and Vancouver police to fight organized crime.
Police seized vast amounts of computer equipment, accounts and other
evidence. An
Emergency Response Team was used to breach several doors on the upper
floors.
Ms. Drennan said stock market regulators in the United States have been
informed
about the investigation.
Drennan said police believe the company and its officials engaged in illegal
betting and
bookmaking, the possession and distribution of prohibited pornography, and
possession of the proceeds of crime.
Starnet’s bank accounts will probably be frozen, as they are "proceeds of crime"
if
they are not already frozen, and that could mean the end of the company.
In Friday`s raid, police said they searched the homes of six Starnet directors and
officers, including those of Mark Dohlen, treasurer Chris Zacharias and chief
operating
officer Jason King.
Chris Zacharias told Bloomberg News that police visited his home yesterday
morning
and "confiscated some Starnet-related records."
Search warrant documents show that police began their investigation -- code
named
"Project Enigma" – in December, 1997.
CLEU`s internet pornography sleuths began investigating Starnet`s adult Web
sites,
gaining access to the sites with credit cards. The search warrant says
investigators
found a number of images depicting sadomasochistic scenes of bondage,
beatings,
whipping and degrading acts. The warrant says a police expert believes the
images
constitute prohibited obscene material under the Criminal Code.
Gambling Magazine warned our readers that Starnet was the biggest crook in
the
industry, and we were right. The police warrant is clear: We are dealing with
criminals and organized crime and they should be shut down permanently and
jailed.
