EBAY Q1 EARNS $104.2MLN VS. $47.6MLN
EBay handily tops Q1 EPS; raises `03 outlook (EBAY, AMZN, YHOO) By Bambi Francisco
EBay (EBAY) said late Tuesday that it earned $104.2 million in net income, or 32 cents per share, up 119 percent from a year ago. Excluding certain items, EBay earned $116 million, or 36 cents per share, 5 cents above analysts` consensus estimate. Quarterly sales soared 94 percent to $476.5 million. Roughly 19.5 percent of total sales came from EBay`s payment business. The revenue number was above the consensus forecast of $456.2 million, even though the Iraq war put a little damper on spending. But sales did fall short of CS First Boston`s estimate of $478 million. EBay also raised its outlook for 2002. It now expects $1.27 in earnings in 2003. Excluding certain items, EBay said it expects to earn $1.41 on sales of $2.05 billion. EBay fell 2 percent to $89.22 in regular trading Tuesday before the results were released.
