Infineon sees positive U.S. patent ruling
FRANKFURT, March 10 (Reuters) - Germany`s Infineon Technologies AG said on Friday it expects a U.S. court to decide in its favour on a lawsuit filed two years ago against Hyundai Electronics for alleging it infringed semiconductor patents.
Computer chip maker Infineon`s statement was made in reaction to news that Hyundai has filed a suit in a U.S. court against the German company for violating its patented technology in manufacturing memory and other chip products.
Hyundai said its suit seeks damages and an injunction barring Infineon`s U.S. sales of dynamic random access memory (DRAM) and other semiconductors that use Hyundai`s technology. Its company spokesman said Hyundai has taken the action as it has been unable to resolve its differences with Infineon over the value of Hyundai`s intellectual property.
Infineon, a subsidiary of German industrial group Siemens AG and which will list in Frankfurt and New York on Monday, said that two years ago it sued Hyundai for infringement of eight of Infineon`s patents.
``We expect a decision on the facts in favour of Infineon in the fall (autumn) of this year,`` Infineon said.
``The filing (by Hyundai) in Virginia does not change or add anything to the pending case in San Jose, California. We will analyze the filing in Virginia and will consider appropriate reaction, `` said the company whose flotation will be the biggest in Germany since that of Deutsche Telekom AG in 1996.
