AvantGo (ticker: AVGO, exchange: NASDAQ) News Release - Dec. 11, 2001
AvantGo Powers Utilities Across the Country and Around the World
MESA, Ariz., Dec 11, 2001 (BUSINESS WIRE) --
MobileEXPO Utility Forum
Mobile Leader`s Enterprise Solutions Improve Efficiency
for Gas, Power and Telecommunications Companies;
AvantGo Presents Keynote at MobileExpo Utility Forum
AvantGo, Inc. (Nasdaq:AVGO), the leading provider mobile enterprise software, is showcasing the success of its mobile solutions
among utilities at this week`s MobileEXPO Utility Forum. Today, the most reliable providers of electrical power, steam, natural gas and
telecommunications systems, including Duke Energy, BP Amoco, Chevron, ABB, BG plc, City of Richmond in British Columbia, First
Energy, Kerr McGee, Niagara Mohawk Power, Reliant, Scottish Power and TXU Electric & Gas, depend on AvantGo`s award-winning
mobile solutions for field force, business intelligence, logistics and other mission-critical business applications.
During the AvantGo presentation, AvantGo`s vice president of applications, Ojas Rege, will address common misperceptions about
wireless and present compelling real-world case studies featuring energy and utility companies that have implemented AvantGo
mobile solutions to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of field employees by replacing antiquated paper-based processes and
providing access to critical, up-to-date information in the field.
Mobile applications are being used today to automate business processes and improve the exchange of information between
companies and their employees and customers, resulting in improved business efficiencies and more effective customer interactions.
Specifically in the energy and utilities sector, companies are deploying compliance management, servicing, plant inspection,
environmental monitoring, refinery operations & maintenance and logistics applications.
"This industry requires access to continually changing information, where accuracy is a necessity," said Edward Hung, manager of the
City of Richmond`s advanced technology and research team. "Taking our field solution mobile using AvantGo technology has saved
us valuable time and money, and we`re now operating at least three times more efficiently in this area."
AvantGo solutions support a wide variety of applications, information stores and devices, including Research in Motion`s BlackBerry
Wireless Handhelds(TM), Microsoft Windows-powered Pocket PC and Palm OS-based handheld devices, as well as connectivity
options for today`s wireless service alternatives, including GSM, GPRS, CDPD, CDMA, Mobitex and 802.11(b) wireless local area
networks.
"Not every critical business application for the energy and utilities industry has to be wireless, but they should be mobile," said Ojas
Rege, vice president of applications for AvantGo. "This industry has a high mobility quotient, meaning that its employees are generally
in the field working to monitor and repair lines, pipes and equipment that may require immediate attention. Enabling employees to
reference and interact with critical data while in the field means that situations can be dealt with quickly and corporations can save
tremendous amount of time and money. Utilities and energy companies highlight the real benefits of AvantGo technology - not only
saving time today with on-call information, but preventing similar or worse problems tomorrow."
Ojas Rege, vice president of applications for AvantGo, is scheduled to present the keynote, "Show Me the Money - Driving Real
Value from Mobile Applications," on December 12 at 10:30am. For more information about the MobileEXPO Utility Forum, please visit
