(Infocast News) Legend Holdings (0992) today announced the third quarterly turnover of its computer business skyrocketed 77%, of which the businesses in household computers and notebook computers soared the most. For the sectoral sale, there is satisfactory growth in post & telecommunications and banking; for regional sale, the businesses in South-west and Eastern China regions are most outstanding.

The turnover of distribution grow 59% in the third quarter when compared to the figure in the same period last year.

Integrated system business is influenced by the adjustment of the business and the personnel matter, so the turnover fall slightly.

For the production of the mainboard, after a series of adjustment, a profit is observed in the business in the first three quarters.

wurde nur durch die glocke gestoppt

Legend <0992.HK> set for Internet-related deals

HONG KONG, Jan 26 (Reuters) - China`s largest personal computer maker Legend Holdings Ltd said on Wednesday it would announce a merger or acquisition with a local partner in coming months which would boost its Internet operations.

"There are two situations where we would be interested, the first would be to cooperate with someone who had greater expertise in developing Internet services," Chairman Liu Chuanzhi told reporters at a briefing.

"The other would be the acquisition of a small firm that had a certain technological strengths or special expertise," Liu said, adding it was now a sensitive time and he could not say more. Executives would not reveal how much the company had earmarked for these ventures.

The company had budgeted 30 to 40 million yuan in capital spending for financial year 2000, which ends March 31, 2000, but these ventures were not included in that budget.

The red chip China-based company reported after-tax profits of HK$147 million in the third quarter ending December 31 1999, a 58 percent increase over the year-earlier quarter.

The rise came on the back of 46 percent growth in revenues, executives said. The company would also announce the details and terms of its current and future cooperation with China Telecom, Executive Director Mary Ma said. Legend had set up a nation-wide cooperation agreement with the telephone company to provide Internet users with a one-year free unlimited Internet dial-up service.

This agreement aided the sales launch of the company`s first generation Internet personal computer, the Legend Conet, during the past quarter, Ma said. Sales of the PC in its first two months on the market were 14,000 units and profit margins about 20 percent, Ma said. During the three months ended December 1999, the company also launched its portal, www.fm365.com.

It consists of six channels, which included news, education, entertainment, lifestyle, stock market and shopping information.

Revenue from these ventures, chiefly advertising revenue, was very little at this time, Ma said, but added "the e-commerce revenue done over the system was growing rapidly".

One case in point were sales of the group`s own personal computers, 80 percent of which were done over the Internet, Ma said. Turnover from the sale of computers rose 77 percent during the quarter, executives said but did not a specific sales figures.

Legend Holdings released its 3rd quarter result, with net profit up 59% to HK$147m. We are pleased with the results and revise up our FY00 and FY01 earnings forecast by 12.3% and 13.9%, respectively. We, therefore, revised up our target prices accordingly.

The tremendous rise in 3Q earnings was mainly attributed to stronger sales and lower interest expense. Net margin improved to 2.88% in 3Q00 from 2.67% in the same period last year (1H00: 2.36%).

Legend PC accounted for 53% of total turnover, rising from 49% in 1H00. This was attributed to a 60% growth in commercial PCs and 90% growth in home PCs. Legend sold 430,000 PCs in 3Q00. In addition to the sales of 610,000 PCs in 1H00, Legend sold 1.04m PCs for the first nine months ended 31st December 1999. Hence, we further raise our full year sales projection from the original 1.3m PCs to 1.4m PCs (we had raised from 1.2m PCs to 1.3m in the interim results note). However, the gross margin dropped from 13.0% to 12.5% in the period under review (1H00: 13.1%).

Regarding the new internet PC, Legend sold 14,000 Conet PCs in December 1999. Gross margin of Conet PC is around 20%, which is higher than that of the ordinary PCs. The management expects that sales of Conet PC will account for 15% of the total PCs in FY01. The management is also satisfactory with the sales performance of the newly-launched set-top box.

The current market share of Legend PCs is above 25%, up from 22.9% unveiled in the interim results. Despite the surge in component cost due to the shortage of supply, Legend kept the selling prices of current models unchanged.
Distribution recorded a 59% growth in turnover, accounting for 33% of total turnover. Gross margin stayed unchanged at 8.5% compared to 3Q99 (1H00: 8.9%). Notebook marked the strongest growth of 222%.

Systems Integration accounted for 6% of turnover. Turnover in SI dropped slightly compared to the same period last year due to some adjustments made on the business and personnel management. Gross margin stayed at 19.0% (1H00: 19.5%). Motherboard accounted for 5% of turnover and gross margin improved to 22.0% (1H00: 17.0%), due to the reduction in headcount and inventory days from 60 to 45 days. We expect the division to break even in FY00.
Net interest bearing borrowing was reduced to HK$208m compared to HK$514m in the same period of the previous year. Inventory days shortened to 23.5 days from 36.9 days following the application of e-commerce on inventory control and Legend continued to enjoy tax privileges on some products. Currently, the gearing ratio is 6.3% and interest coverage is 16.6x.

Conclusion

Following the earnings upgrade, we reiterate our optimistic expectation on the future PC sales. Additionally, the counter should be granted a premium for its ISP and ICP potentials. Given a 2-year CAGR of 45% for FY00-01, our targeted valuations of 90x FY01 PER and 2.0x PER/growth ratio are still justified for such a high growth company. We maintain our BUY recommendation, with a 12-month price target of 30.00 (90x FY01 PER).

habe einen teil meiner aktien heute verkauft und zu 3.75 gewinne mitgenommen. wollte wirklich länger halten, aber was soll man angesichts eines so gewaltigen aufschlages machen...

der "schuldige": euorams. wenn schon die zeitungen zum einstieg blasen, ist normalerweise die zeit des ausstiegs.

den rest werde ich mal eine zeit weiterlaufen lassen. die gewinne wurden heute bereits wieder revistiert. zum drittenmal nachgekauft bei meiner neuen empfehlung:

ich glaube mich streift ein elch! heute +28%. damit habe ich natürlich nicht gerechnet und das ganze ohne wirkliche news. gott sei dank hab ich "nur" die hälfte meiner shares verkauft. übrigens würde der heutige anstieg umgelegt auf meinen kaufkurs vom oktober 99 eine über 100% steigerung bedeuten...

diese aktie versteh ich wirklich nimmer, je teurer sie wird, desto schneller steigt sie (noch schlimmer als bei siemens )

By midmorning, the stock was up HK$4.30 or 15.5 percent after soaring 24 percent to a record HK$34.40 in early trade on moderate turnover. By 1115 local time (0315 GMT) , the benchmark Hang Seng Index

(news) was up 3.3 percent or 534 points at 16,763, boosted by an overnight rise in the tech-laden Nasdaq (news) and strength in blue and red chip China Telecom (Hong Kong) (0941.HK: news) . "Generally technology stocks are on the way up, and given Legend is one of several Hong Kong-listed, Internet-related China technology plays, there really is some good value," said Jerry Pang, institutional sales manager at HSBC Securities.

Last month Legend said it would announce a merger or acquisition with a local partner in coming months that would boost its Internet operations.

Another analyst at a European investment bank said the stock was moving on a market rumour that Legend would be included in the Morgan Stanley Capital International China Free Index.

"All stocks are getting re-rated as we speak," said Pang. "The entire Hong Kong market is being driven by this continuing technology re-rating and technology-premium reasons."

Na Polzinho, ich bin immer noch voll investiert in Legend und das wird auch noch lange Zeit so bleiben.
Legend ist so eine Aktie, bei der man sich immer nur ärgert, nachdem man sie verkauft und ich ärgere mich nur ungern.
