Freenet - Buy (Merck Finck & Co.)
Freenet.de: A good job in 2001
Freenet.de released its figures for FY 2001 this morning, which were overall positive. Despite the fact that total revenues for 2001 came in below IBES mean estimates, at €27.9m, the net loss and EBT increased by only €1m over the prior year. On a sequential basis, net loss was reduced by much more than IBES and our own estimates had forecasted, and came in at €-9.8m, instead of €-13.8m. Which was particularly impressive to us was the increase in revenues from both connectivity and advertising from Q3 last year. They increased by 69% and 83%, respectively, which is astonishing given the current slump in the advertising market. Only e-commerce sales fared not as well, at a growth rate of only 2%. Overall, however, we see the financial result positive and re-iterate our Buy rating. A detailed discussion of the figures will follow later today.

Freenet: Downgrade from BUY to SELL Sell
We are today downgrading Freenet from BUY to SELL, due to the latest dispute between Mobilcom and France Telecom and the uncertainty this has added to Freenet. A research note on that will follow later today.
