vizrt fine tune Eurovision results

When votes from 24 countries are to be counted in the Eurovision Song Contest 2002 I Tallin, Estonia on May 25, it will happen on vizrt technology.


The annual program you either hate or love will again be viewed by hundreds of millions all over Europe and it`s therefore a prestigious contract vizrt is awarded by the Estonian Televison.
- We`ve obviously done much bigger jobs, but this is one that comes with a lot of exposure and interest. Gudmund Aasgaard is heading the project from the vizrt end of things. Should there be any problems during the voting, he`s the one to blame.

Avo Kokmann, technical director for Eurovision 2002 claims he went looking for quality, flexibility, reliability and price when he went shopping for this year`s scoring system. vizrt beat the competition in all categories and definitely on price as this year`s graphics will run on a normal windows platform avoiding the much more expensive and up to now only possible, IRIX-alternative.
"We had the following options. Get the scoreboard from Denmark ( last year show ) which we didn`t want. We could have used SVT`s system, but we didn`t like the limited possibilities we were left with plus there was a price issue. BBCs solution was way too expensive so it came down to vizrt. We chose vizrt because the price /performance ratio seems to be the best and we have seen what it can do. The system can even run on PCs, but most importantly: We feel we can relay on vizrt, says Mr. Kokmann.

We`re obviously happy to be chosen, says Gudmund Aasgaard. This is a prestigious job with all the exposure. We haven`t done the design of the board this time. Asko Kunnap at Zoom Ogilvy in Estionia did that. Geir Asle Aasen (programmer/developer) and Simen Grankel (designer) at vizrt enabled them to do what they wanted to do and when they`re happy, we`re happy.

What`s going to be your role during the evening?
I`m going to be they guy back stage chewing nails, hoping everything goes right. Only kidding. I`m going to be there if I`m needed. I`m confident I will have a calm and enjoyable night.
