Axis and Proxim Partner to Deliver Cost-Effective Wireless IP-Surveillance ... Alle Nachrichten

      19.05. / 14:14

SUNNYVALE, Calif. and CHELMSFORD, Mass., May 19 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Axis Communications, the global leader in the network video market, and Proxim Corporation , a leading provider of high-performance wireless local area networking (WLAN) and wireless wide area networking (WWAN) products, have entered into a strategic relationship to offer cost-effective and high performance IP-surveillance solutions over WWAN. Using Axis network cameras in combination with Proxim``s Tsunami high-capacity and cost-effective WWAN solutions allows companies to economically deploy wireless security and surveillance systems while maintaining high levels of security and reliability.

Wireless networking solutions are ideal for installations in which utilizing traditional Ethernet cabling would be difficult or cost prohibitive. The strategic relationship between Axis and Proxim now offers customers in the education, small enterprise and local government arenas a cost-effective alternative that allows them to quickly and easily deploy security cameras in any terrain and potentially save thousands of dollars in installation costs. In addition, wirelessly connected cameras can be deployed virtually anywhere, giving companies more flexibility in the design and installation of security and surveillance systems.

"Axis and Proxim have a clear focus on the fast-growing market of wireless, IP-based security and surveillance solutions," said Michael Engstrom, general manager of Axis Communications. "By working together, we can effectively capitalize on the growing role of wireless networking and enable our end users to create more flexible IP security and surveillance solutions."

Wireless networking technology enables users to easily install network video products in areas where Ethernet cabling is not readily available, such as on bridges, in parking lots or across a multi-building site, enabling same- day operation. In addition, transporting surveillance images via WWAN now makes it possible for large compounds covering vast acres or sites that have unique geography, such as a high concentration of water or mountains, to quickly deploy an advanced IP-surveillance solution.

"Security is an ongoing concern for many different areas of society, and we see this kind of wireless surveillance deployment translating to a number of situations where such high-level security has previously been unattainable," said Kevin Duffy, vice president and general manager of Proxim``s WAN Division. "Wireless IP-surveillance solutions save customers time and money while seamlessly integrating into the existing network infrastructure."

A bundle of Axis network video products and Proxim wireless networking products is currently available in the U.S. market through distribution partners such as Ingram Micro and Tech Data.

"This timely partnership between Proxim and Axis addresses the growing interest in the surveillance market," said Sally Stanton, vice president, category management, Ingram Micro U.S. "Teamed with Ingram Micro``s comprehensive security offering, their new solution is a terrific opportunity for VARs to extend their security offerings to their SMB and small enterprise customers with a solution that is accessible and affordable."
