5-aminolevulinic acid 5% thermosetting gel PDT in the treatment of mild-to-moderate acne vulgaris

Objectives: To understand the safety and efficacy of photodynamic therapy in the treatment of acne vulgaris

Introduction: Photodynamic therapy (PDT) in acne is widely recognised as a safe and effective method for treating both inflammatory and non-inflammatory lesions and different severity of acne from mild to severe.

In my presentation, beside a brief review of the literature on the application of PDT in the treatment of acne, I will show the promising results of an assessor blinded proof-of-concept trial showing the safety and efficacy of a novel formulation of 5-aminolevulinic acid 5% thermosetting gel in the treatment of acne.

Materials / method: 35 patients (13 male, 22 female), were treated using PDT with 5-aminolevulinic acid 5% thermosetting gel for a mean of 3 PDT sessions targeted to the face and held every other week (range 2-6 sessions). Global Acne Grading System (GAGS) score was recorded at the baseline and after each PDT session and at a 6 months follow up. A skin tolerability score (0-3 range) was reported by each patient after each PDT session.

Results: From a mean baseline GAGS score of 21 (SD +/-6), the GAGS score decreased to a mean value of 6.5 (SD +/- 5.7) after the last PDT session and mantained itself at a mean value of 6.7 (SD +/- 6.8) at a 6 months follow-up. Tolerability assessed by the patients was excellent, with all patients completing the study and with a reported discomfort mean level score of 0.5 (SD +/-1) on a scale from 0 to 3 (where 0 is no discomfort at all and 3 is the worst possible discomfort). No adverse events were reported.

Conclusion: PDT using 5-aminolevulinic 5% thermosetting gel is safe and effective for the tratment of mild to moderate acne vulgaris. The small size of the study is a limting factor. The fact that GAGS calculation included the chest and back, that were not treated during the study (only the face was treated), raises the possibility that the results could have been even better including chest and back in the treatment protocol.

Der Markt ist riesig. Das weckt natürlich Begehrlichkeiten. Bf hatte mal einen respektablen Vorsprung.
Nutzen konnten sie ihn bisher nur marginal. Zu viel probieren, irren und korrigieren hat immens viel
Zeit verschlungen. Ich sehe das wie Du Caldo, wenn die jetzt nicht durchstarten, machen andere mit
professionellerem Vorgehen das Rennen.

Ich denke wir müssen den Fokus etwas erweitern.
Für Maruho geht es vornehmlich um den Asiatischen Markt und den Aussichten, die nicht nur die Indikation Akne mit Ameluz in dieser Region hat, sondern auch das Produkt aus der Nanotechnologie von Biofrontera, ebenfalls für Akne.
Ich meine, wieso sollte sich Maruho gerade auf die Indikation Akne konzentriert haben, wenn Akne nicht wichtig wäre für die Region?
Allerdings lässt sich die Werthaltigkeit in diesem frühen Stadium noch schwer einschätzen.
Ein erster möglicher Deal könnte schon mal Aufschluss geben.
Leider zieht er sich auch für meinen Zeitbegriff etwas in die Länge! Vornehm ausgedrückt.

Könnte natürlich auch mit den Auseinandersetzungen mit Balaton zu tun haben?!?
Sollte es aber nicht.

Akne liegt noch weit weg. Was ist denn mit dem Beautymarkt? Alles Luftschlösser bis heute.
Will die Firma überleben muss sie mit Ameluz mit der Indekation AK und BCC erfolgreich sein.
Der entsprechende Markt ist vorhanden.
