Hi Leute!
Wo sind die Korea Elektronikfreaks, die etwas über LG (WKN 891733)wissen? Brauche dringend Infos. Konnte bisher nur in Erfahrung bringen, dass eine Werbung auf Eurosport läuft. Zahlt sich ein Investment aus?

Die Werbung kenn ich auch, ich habe mir ne Waschmaschine von LG-Electronics gekauft und weiß daher, daß es ein Ableger (bzw. ein neues Image) von Goldstar ist und die waren bisher nicht unbedingt für Qualität berühmt. Das hat zwar jetzt nix mit Börse im engeren Sinne zu tun, aber vielleicht hats ja trotzdem geholfen.
(die Waschmaschine ist im Übrigen O.K.)

LG steht für Lucky Goldstar, einen der größten Konzerne in Südkorea.
Bekannt sind die Elektro- und Unterhaltungselektronikgeräte, die (auch in Deutschland) unter dem Namen GOLDSTAR verkauft werden.

Die großen koreanischen Unternehmen sind gerüstet, um den wachsenden Bedarf an Mobiltelefonen mit Internetzugang zu decken. Man erwartet eine jährliche Wachstumsrate von 50% bis zum Jahr 2005.
Die sich bereits in den 90er Jahren abzeichnenden Entwicklungen im Computerbereich wie die Erfindung des Laptops und der drahtlosen Kommunikationstechnologie, legten den Grundstein für völlig neue Technologien. Anfang des neuen Jahrtausends wird der Mensch nicht länger an die Grenzen von Zeit und Raum gebunden sein.
1998 erfolgte mit IS-95 die Einführung der ersten Generation des digitalen, drahtlosen Internets. Der Zugang war jedoch nur möglich, wenn ein Mobiltelefonset an ein Laptop angeschlossen wurde. Obgleich es viel zu verbessern gab, konnten Ende 1999 in der drahtlosen Kommunikation sowohl IS-95B Dienstleistungen als auch "up loading Web-Browser" gleichzeitig genutzt werden. Koreanische Mobiltelefonanbieter entwickeln bereits einen IS-95C-Service und planen diesen Anfang nächsten Jahres nach abgeschlossener Einführung der IS-95B-Systeme auf den Markt zu bringen. Das IS-95C-System, mit seiner Bandbreite von 144 Kbps pro Sekunde, soll das Geschäft mit dem drahtlosen Internet ankurbeln.
Der asiatische Markt für drahtlose Kommunikationsleistungen wächst rasch. Man geht davon aus, daß 51% der Subscriber bis zum Jahr 2004 das drahtlose Internet nutzen werden. Insbesondere in Korea, dessen Regierung die neuen Informationstechnologien unter dem Motto "Cyber Korea 2001" intensiv fördert, hat sich der Markt für das drahtlose Internet schon im vergangen Jahr gebildet. Schätzungsweise 200 000 oder 1% der Mobiltelefonnutzer sollen sich bereits für diesen Service angemeldet haben. In diesem Jahr werden Aktiengeschäfte und finanzielle Transaktionen überwiegend über Mobiltelefone abgewickelt, mehr und mehr Menschen werden die Hochgeschwindigkeits-Datenübertragung nutzen.
In den ersten beiden Monaten dieses Jahres waren bereits 2 Millionen Koreaner im Besitz der neuesten Mobiltelefone, 52,4% sind lediglich einen Mausklick entfernt von der Eroberung der grenzenlosen Welt durch ihr Telefon. Bei einem prognostizierten Wachstum des Marktes von jährlich 50% ist die Verlockung groß, sich eine Scheibe vom Kuchen abzuschneiden. So ist der Wettbewerb zwischen den großen koreanischen Unternehmen wie Hyundai, Samsung und LG schon in vollem Gange, man erwartet, daß er im Laufe des Jahres noch härter wird, wenn es mehr als 15 Millionen mobile Internetstationen geben wird, was einer 50% Abdeckung des Marktes entspricht.

UND wer auf Korea setzt sollte RICHTIG liegen :
Handelsgewinn im Juni auf $2,3 Milliarden gestiegen.
Korea verzeichnete für den Monat Juni einen Handelsüberschuss von $2,3 Milliarden. Das ist der größte Handelsgewinn in diesem Jahr, der sogar die Gewinne der letzten fünf Monate zusammen gerechnet übersteigt.
Das Ministerium für Handel, Industrie und Energie sagte gestern, dass diese sprunghaft angestiegene Gewinnspanne der Handelsbilanz vom Juni es ermögliche, die 4 Milliarden der ersten Hälfte der geplanten Jahresbilanz zu erreichen.
Das Ministerium erklärte, dass die Zahlen für Juni verglichen mit Mai sehr stark angestiegen seien, und der Export im Monat Juni Rekordhöhe erreicht hätte.
Im Mai sank der Export verglichem mit dem Vorjahr von $1,97 Milliarden auf 1,35 Milliarden, was zu der Befürchtung führte, dass sogar das herabgesetzte Ziel der Regierung, eine positive Jahresbilanz von $10 Milliarden nicht erreichbar sei.
In einer Erklärung gab des Ministerium bekannt, dass der verzollte Export im Juni insgesamt $15,48 Milliarden betrug und damit, verglichen mit dem Vorjahr, von $12,82 Milliarden um 20% gestiegen sei. Der Rekordmonat vom Vorjahr war Dezember 1999 mit einem Export von $14.96 Milliarden.
Der gesamte Import stieg von $10.2 Milliarden im gleichen Zeitraum des Vorjahres um 29.2% auf $13.18 Milliarden an.
In der ersten Jahreshälfte 2000 verzeichnete Korea einen Handelsgewinn von $4,35 Milliarden, eine krasse Abnahme verglichen mit den $11,67 Milliarden vom Vorjahr im gleichen Zeitraum. Experten meinen jedoch, dass die beeindruckenden Zahlen vom Juni, die Export-Aussichten der zweiten Jahreshälfte in einem günstigen Licht erscheinen lassen. Die Regierung erhofft sich einen Handelsgewinn von $ 10 - $12 Milliarden für das gesamte Jahr.
Das Ministerium erklärte, dass in den ersten 20 Tag im Juni der Export der Produkte aus der Schwerindustrie und der Chemie um 38.9% auf $6,23 Milliarden angestiegen sei.
Der Export von Halbleitern stieg um 64.2% in den ersten 20 Tagen, während der Export der petrochemikalischen Produkte einen Sprung von 79.1% machte. Petroleum Produkte stiegen um 73%, der Computer Export um 56.4% und elektronische Produkte um 41.3%.
In den ersten zwei Tage im Juni stieg der Export nach Japan, verglichen mit dem Vorjahr, um 39.6%, in die U.S.A. um 36% und in die EG um 25%, erklärte das Ministerium. Der Export nach China stieg um 39.6%, während die Ladungen nach Taiwan um 48.5% anstiegen.
Mit dem Anstieg des Exports, stieg auch der Import von Rohmaterial vom Vorjahr um 31.8% auf $4,43 Milliarden in den ersten 20 Tagen vom Juni. Der Import von Investitionsgütern stieg um 38.9% auf derzeit $3,62 Milliarden, während der Import von Verbraucherartikeln um 28.8% auf $77 Millionen stieg.
Der Import aus EG-Ländern stieg um 33.4%, während der Import aus Japan um 33% anstieg. Aus China wurden 47.3% und aus den USA wurden 11% mehr als im Vorjahr importiert.
Korea verzeichnete letztes Jahr einen Handelsgewinn von $23,93 Milliarden, was sehr viel höher ist als der geplante Gewinn für dieses Jahr.

LG Electronics, der zweitgrößte koreanische Elektrokonzern, dementierte heuet einen Zeitungsbericht, wonach das Unternehmen in Gesprächen mit AOL steht. Ziel der Gespräche sei eine Allianz im Bereich der Entwicklung von Set-Top-Boxes und Plasma-TV-Geräten. Weiter soll AOL die Programme von LG Shopping und LG Electronics mit Content "füttern" und bei dem Aufbau des Internet-TVs helfen.
LG dementierte die Gespräche heftig und sagte, dass man mit AOL sich weder getroffen noch Dokumente ausgetauscht habe.
Trotz der Dementis scheinen diese Gerüchte den Kurs heute in Seoul zu beflügeln. Der Konzern legt über 4 % heute zu.

UND LGE muss doch auch "günstige" Produkte für den "nicht kleinen" CHINESISCHEN Markt
produzieren !
LGE ist noch dazu mit einem Fuß bei DACOM ..einer der größten
Telecom Firmen in Korea !
UND mittlerweile hganz still und heimlich auch die NR 2 in Korea bei
den begehrten Speicher-Chips !
Das Tolle an LGE ist das sie eine UNHEIMLICHE Bandbreite an
Produkten hat . UND (Ich weis nicht mehr ganz neu) der GRÖSSTE
Monitor Hersteller der WELT !

LG Electronics broke the ground for construction of a home appliance factory in Monterrey, northeastern Mexico, yesterday.
The 330,000-square-meter facility will produce 200,000 air conditioners and 400,000 refrigerators when its first-stage construction work is completed next March. It will produce washing machines and microwave ovens later.
The factory will serve as LG`s export base for South and North American markets. The products in Mexico, a member of NAFTA, will be able to avoid import tariffs in the markets. Mexico is Latin America`s second largest market after Brazil.

Philips, LG Form World`s Largest Cathode Tube Maker

AMSTERDAM (Dow Jones)--Dutch electronics giant Royal Philips Electronics NV (PHG)
and South Korea`s LG Electronics (Q.LGE) Monday unveiled plans to
merge their cathode ray tube businesses in a 50/50 joint venture.
Though the deal won`t be finalized until sometime in the first half of 2001, the companies
- which already have a joint venture in liquid crystal displays (LCD`s) - said the
new combination will have sales this year of more than $6 billion, and a combined global
market share of 25%, making it the world`s largest maker of CRT`s for
televisions and computer monitors.
Philips expects the deal to provide between $200 million and $300 million in synergies
and cost savings by 2001, as the combined venture shifts production capacity to
regions where labor is relatively cheaper.
"It`s an excellent geographic and product fit," said analyst Henk van de Meent of NIB
Capital. "You can make a long story of it, but it`s a good deal, that`s the bottom
line."
He said he believed that the success of Philips and LG`s joint venture in liquid crystal
displays had probably been a factor in the companies` decision to enter this second
venture.
"It creates a nice whole unit," he said. "The growing LCD business, and the more mature
CRT business."
Philips is stronger in CRT`s for televisions, and has manufacturing capacity mainly in
Europe and North America, while LG is stronger in tubes for computer monitors,
and has capacity in Asia.
Because LG`s CRT unit has higher earnings before interest and tax charges (EBIT) than
Philips` CRT activities - $357 million against $157 million - the new venture will
pay LG a one-off consideration of $1.1 billion.
And since LG`s CRT business is more profitable than Philips, the deal will be
immediately accretive to Philips` earnings.
As part of the deal, Philips has also agreed to buy "up to EUR500 million" in redeemable
preferred shares that LG plans to issue, though terms of the issue haven`t yet
been defined. It is expected that Philips will eventually hold a 5%-8% stake in LG as a
result of the share purchase. Philips said the move would help LG through a
financing "hurdle."
LG currently has a debt/equity ratio of 2.8 and aims to lower it to below 2 by year end.
Van de Meent of NIB Capital said he doubted that the companies are close to a deal to
cooperate in making mobile handsets, though Philip`s chief operating officer
Gerard Kleisterlee - who will become the company`s chief executive next year - said at a
webcast press conference in South Korea that the companies had discussed
the possibility.
"It`s not strange that amid the other discussions, (the subject of a cooperation on cell
phones) should come to the table," Kleisterlee said. "This is an area we are
exploring, but we aren`t at the point where we can make any concrete statement about
it."
At 1309 GMT, Philips shares were up EUR1.90 or 4.7% at EUR43.66, while the
benchmark Dutch AEX index was up 1.4%.

Korea LG Elec Agrees With Royal Philips On Tube JV-Yonhap
SEOUL (Dow Jones)--South Korea`s LG Electronics Co. (Q.LGE) has agreed with Royal
Philips Electronics NV to set up a joint-venture plant to produce cathode ray
tubes, Yonhap News Agency reported Monday.
Under the agreement, LG Electronics will set up the joint-venture company by the first
half of next year, holding a 50% stake in the company, Yonhap reported. LG
Electronics will secure $1.6 billion from Royal Philips, which will buy $500 million worth
of LG`s callable stocks next month.
"LG Electronics is talking with Royal Philips now, but we don`t have anything to
announce at this moment," said an LG Electronics spokesman, adding that he isn`t
aware
of the Yonhap report.
Last week, a local paper said LG Electronics is expected to sign a contract with the
Dutch electronics giant around Nov. 28, on a strategic alliance which includes the
sale of a stake in LG Electronics` cathode ray tube operations to the Dutch concern.

SEOUL (Dow Jones)--South Korea`s LG Electronics Co. (Q.LGE) and Royal Philips
Electronics NV (PHG) are in late-stage talks to merge their mobile-phone handset
businesses, a source familiar with the situation said Monday.
The two companies announced earlier Monday they had signed a letter of intent to merge
their respective cathode ray tube businesses into a new 50-50 joint-venture
company.
The source said Philips Electronics and LG Electronics had also considered the
simultaneous announcement of a second joint venture in mobile-phone handsets.
However, the two sides failed to conclude their talks on the handset transaction, the
status of which remains uncertain, the source said.
During a press conference in Seoul to discuss the transaction, Philips Electronics Chief
Operating Officer Gerard Kleisterlee acknowledged that the two companies
were in talks regarding possible cooperation in their mobile-phone businesses.
Kleisterlee said such talks were natural for the two sides, given their sizable handset
businesses and Philips` satisfaction with its $1.6 billion investment last year in LG
LCD Inc., now known as LG Philips LCD Co. However, he declined to comment further on
the status of the talks.
LG Philips LCD, a manufacturer of thin-film transistor liquid-crystal displays, or
TFT-LCDs, is a joint venture between Philips and LG Group (Q.LGG), the parent
conglomerate of LG Electronics.
LG Electronics merged earlier this year with LG Information & Communications Co., a
maker of mobile-phone handsets.
LG Electronics` shares ended Monday at 13,800 won ($1=KRW1,186.50), down
KRW200, or 1.4%.

their Plasma technology (PDP) activities, following valuations. With expected annual

Expanded presence in Australia leveraging LGE`s technological strength¡¦ Sales
grew by 80% over last year
LG Electronics` refrigerator, air conditioner and washing
machine received the Galaxy Award in Australia in
recognition of their superb power saving technology.
Galaxy Award, established by Sustainable Energy Authority
Victoria, a government agency, along with local environment
groups and consumer groups, is given to products with
high-energy efficiency.
Recipients of the Galaxy Award are promoted through major
media sources and can carry stickers identifying them as the award winners. In a market
like Australia
where preference for environmentally friendly products is strong, such recognition is
expected to boost
sales.
Since becoming the first Korean company to win this prestigious award back in 1996,
LGE has been
selected for five consecutive years now. Such recognition means that LGE`s high-quality
power saving
technology has won international recognition. For this year, four models from the
refrigerator line, three
models from the drum washing machine line and one model from the air conditioner line
received the
Galaxy Award for their high-energy efficiency and power saving capabilities.
The four models from the LG refrigerator line have optimized cooling air circulation
technology and have
high energy-efficient compressors to realize maximum cooling power with minimum
power
consumption. The performance of the insulation material was also enhanced to
drastically reduce
energy loss.
Moreover, the three models that were chosen from the LG drum washing machine have
"Digital Control
Motors" based on inverter technology to reduce power consumption by more than 40%
compared to
existing products. Their designs, which fully reflect local consumer needs, have also won
wide
recognition. In the case of air conditioners, it received high marks in power consumption,
maintenance,
cooling efficiency and user friendliness.

PHILIPS AND LG JOIN FORCES IN DISPLAY COMPONENTS ACTIVITIES
Merger of Philips Display Components with LG`s display components activities
makes the combined entity world`s no. 1 in display technology
Royal Philips Electronics of the Netherlands (AEX: PHI, NYSE: PHG), and LG
Electronics (LG - KS 02610)
of South Korea, announced today the signing of a Letter of Intent through which the
companies will
merge their respective cathode ray tube (CRT) businesses into a new joint venture
company. The
transaction is expected to close in the first half of 2001 and is subject to customary
regulatory
approvals. Upon closure of the transaction, LG will receive an amount of $1.1 billion from
the new
company, to close the difference in valuation.
World`s No.1 in CRT Technology
The 50-50 joint venture in display technology concerns all CRT activities, and key
components. Both
companies have agreed to include their glass activities in the final agreement, and also
aim to include
their Plasma technology (PDP) activities, following valuations. With expected annual
sales of nearly US$
6 billion and approximately 36,000 employees, the new company will ensure a global
leadership position
in the CRT market.
Philips is already a leading global supplier of CRTs (No.1 in television tubes, and No.5 in
computer
monitor tubes), with particular strengths and significant market shares in Europe, China,
and the
Americas. It employs approximately 24,000 people and has 12 CRT manufacturing sites
throughout
Asia, Europe and the Americas. Philips Components` CRT business posted revenues of
US$ 3.0 billion in
the year 1999, and EBIT (Earnings Before Interest and Tax) of US$ 157 million.
LG is also a leading supplier of CRTs, both in television and monitor tubes, where it holds
a global No.3
position. Already producing the highest yields in the industry, LG has 5 CRT
manufacturing sites, mainly
in Asia, and employs approximately 12,000 people. LG`s CRT business had revenues of
US$ 2.2 billion
in 1999, and EBIT of US$ 357 million.
Complementary Strengths and Synergy Potential
The merged entity is projected to benefit from the highly complementary strengths of the
two
companies:
- Philips` leadership in television tubes, and LG`s leadership in monitor tubes;
- LG`s geographical leadership in Asia, and Philips` strengths in Europe, China, and the
Americas;
- LG`s industrial and manufacturing expertise and Philips` global marketing and
technological innovation.
Further benefits are expected in the areas of purchasing and research & development.
Under the terms of the agreement, LG and Philips will share equal control of the joint
venture. The new
company will be legally established in the Netherlands, with operational headquarters in
Hong Kong.
Philippe Combes, currently CEO of Philips Display Components will lead the joint
venture.
LG.Philips LCD Co., the existing 50-50 joint venture between Philips and LG in Active
Matrix Liquid
Crystal Display (AMLCD), remains unaffected by the announced transaction.
Transaction Considerations
LG and Philips will sign a Definitive Agreement following further confirmatory due
diligence, the receipt
of necessary regulatory approvals, and workers council consultations. The transaction is
expected to
close in the first half of 2001.
In view of the existing relationship with LG, and the intended new joint venture, Philips is
considering to
invest in a redeemable preference share issue by LG, subject to terms and conditions.
