Was heisst das eigentlich, `alter Minen-Furz` ?

For what it is worth, J.Taylor`s Gold & Technology Weekly Hotline Message-8/24/00 had a follow up on ALTIAR. In conversation with president Bill Long, mention was made that the titanium mining project is moving forward very well.
Taylor feels that the MIT connection is very positive.Further info can be obtained from Paul Savageau & (303)756-8045.
I am aware of many non-believers, but this seemed real upbeat.

Semi-Annual Report to Shareholders, 8-31-00
Dear Shareholders,
As President of Altair International I wanted to take this opportunity to thank you, our shareholders, for your continued support and encouragement. In a major departure from our traditional business activities Altair made a bold business decision to purchase the Altair Processing Technology and demonstration facilities from BHP International in November of 1999. As I reported to you in the 1999 Annual Report, management saw the potential for nanoparticle materials to revolutionize the materials used in a limitless number of industries and to produce early and significant revenue for Altair. Since then Altair has passed many milestones that provide further encouragement and confidence that we are on an exciting and rewarding path of development. Technology development an innovation is risky and filled with potential roadblocks and pitfalls. With your continued support we are meeting those challenges and are even more enthusiastic about the opportunities before us.
Obviously the acquisition and development of this major technology has been of high priority during the first half of this year, but the Camden titanium deposit with its tremendous resource value remains the financial underpinning of the company. We have continued with our deliberate development of the property as the world capacity for extraction of titanium mineral resources has continued to decline.
Much has been done to capitalize on these opportunities since the beginning of the year.
A new division - Altair Technologies - has been formed, a nanoparticle management team has been established, and corporate resources are being enhanced and redistributed to support this effort.
By January of 2000 Altair had shipped samples of its Altium TiNano 40 series of products in both slurry and spray dried form.
Three patents were filed in March. Ten additional patents or patent improvements are in varying stages of development at the present time.
The BHP demonstration plant is being fitted with new calcining, milling, coating and packaging facilities to create a nanoparticle manufacturing plant with name plate capacity of 200 tons per year. Altair is using some of those facilities now and will integrate others as they are installed.
Altair has a continuing expansion plan to 1500 tons per year on the drawing boards which will be implemented as markets develop.
In May, the company started building a small scale product development plant with capacity of a few kilograms per day. That facility will be operational in August. This will allow Altair to continue product development while placing the original demonstration plant into commercial production.
In June Altair entered into a collaboration agreement with Nanopowder Enterprises, Inc. (NEI) of Piscataway, New Jersey. NEI and a consortium of commercial and academic entities are developing advanced ceramic coatings for the Office of Naval Research. Altair`s methods of manufacturing nano powders improve the economics of these advanced coatings.
Also in June Altair opened its business to business informational website. Soon potential customers or partners will be able to order samples of standard materials over the internet.
Groundbreaking for the Camden pilot plant occurred during June. Designed to allow processing of up to 450,000 tons of sand, pilot plant work will assess efficiency of sand processing circuits and allows preparation of a bulk ilmenite/leucoxene product. Site preparation and construction of a sand and water retention facility have been completed, pilot plant design is completed and equipment acquisition commenced.
In July, the company accelerated its entrance into the cosmetic sun screen market by providing samples of its nanoparticles coated with traditional silica alumina coatings.
Altair has been developing special technology approaches to making nanoparticles of zirconium oxide, titanium dioxide nanoparticles with molecular coatings of alkaline earth metal titanates and other metal compounds, and catalyst materials using nanoparticles of mixed metal oxides.
A "world class" investment banking firm with extensive experience in chemicals and mining has been retained.
Funds have been raised to payoff fixed obligations to BHP and secure Altair`s nanoparticle technology position.
Finally, during August Altair entered into an agreement with Massachusetts Institute of Technology to jointly develop a nanostructured fuel cell system for direct hydrocarbon conversion. The program seeks to tackle the major challenges currently present in hydrocarbon-powered fuel cells by combining Altair`s unique materials technology with novel nanostructured catalysts developed by MIT.
Again, much has been accomplished during the last six months. A solid foundation is in place. During the next six months the company plans to commence sales of nanoparticles and develop a variety of high tech nanoparticle products. In addition to traditional nanoparticle applications, cosmetics, paint and coatings, Altair is currently pursuing nanoparticle applications in fuel cells, photo voltaics, batteries, ink, photo catalytics, water purification, electronics and telecommunications. If any of you have comments or suggestions, we always welcome input from our shareholders. Thank you for your support.

Dr. William P. Long

Altair Announces Nano Product Diversification
CODY, Wyo., Sept. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Altair International Inc. (Nasdaq: ALTI - news) today announced that its wholly owned subsidiary, Altair Technologies, (www.altairtechnologies.com) has completed its first phase of Ti02 nanoparticle development including 5 grades of TiNano40. These products with data sheets will soon appear on the website. TiNano40 products are nominally 40nm and range from very high purity products, to highly photocatalytic products, to wet coated non photocatalytic products. ``We believe Altair nanoparticles have an economic advantage and are superior products for a wide variety of uses from photo catalytics to cosmetics`` said Dr. William Long, president of Altair International Inc. ``The team at Altair Technologies has done an outstanding job to develop the TiNano40 product line in just 6 months. Sales from these products are anticipated later this year.``
To supply other markets, Altair has implemented a diversification program that includes its TiNano20 series of products, nominal product size of 20nm, and specialized products of Ti02 and other metal oxides in combination. The first of the diversified products was the 10 micron rutile lattice it is developing for fuel cell applications. At the request of a major catalyst producer, Altair has made a proprietary copper oxide/aluminum oxide co-crystalline nanosized material used for specialized catalyst. A patent application for the Altair process for copper/aluminum oxide product was filed this week.
Additionally, Altair has shipped trial quantities of materials containing mixtures of aluminum and titanium oxides to Inframat Inc., of North Haven, CT, for use in ceramic hardcoatings. Hardmetal and ceramic coatings are used in the thermal spray business to improve wear and corrosion resistance in machinery, heavy equipment, marine vessels, and other like applications. Altair`s collaboration agreement with Nanopowder Enterprises, Inc., previously announced, is also targeted at the thermal spray market with specialized materials.
``Now that we have completed product development of our standard TiNano40 product line, we will actively market those products while we analyze specialty product applications for our next standard line of smaller TiNano and combined nanoparticles`` said Ken Lyon, president of Altair Technologies. ``Our process lends itself to efficient economic production of a variety of ceramic oxides alone or in combination. Today, in the real world of nanotechnology -- these are the products needed. The possibilities appear to be unlimited and we are focusing our efforts in major market areas with major market customers.``
In addition to the products and markets mentioned previously, to satisfy other developing markets, Altair is developing special technology approaches to making nanoparticles of zirconium oxide, titanium dioxide nanoparticles with molecular coatings of alkaline earth metal titanates and other metal compounds, and catalyst materials using nanoparticles of mixed metal oxides. The total catalyst market is estimated at $14 billion per year. Nanoparticle products may capture a significant portion.
Altair International owns a proprietary technology for making nanocrystalline materials of unique quality, economically in large quantities. The company is currently developing special nanomaterials with potential applications in fuel cells, hard coatings, catalysts, cosmetics, paints, batteries, semi-conductors and telecommunications. The technology may also be used to make paint pigment at a cost forecast to be substantially lower than commercial technologies employed today. Altair holds mineral leases on a ``world class`` titanium mineral sand deposit in Tennessee and is in the process of constructing a pilot plant at that site. The company`s other principle asset is the Altair Centrifugal Jig, an environmentally friendly breakthrough technology for mining, coal treatment and environmental remediation.
This press release may be deemed to contain certain forward-looking statements with respect to Altair that are subject to risks and uncertainties that include, but are not limited to, Altair`s ability to obtain necessary capital, performance and reliability of technology, market acceptance of products using Altair technology, variance in anticipated production costs and unanticipated effects of regulatory requirements related to the technology, as well as those identified in the Company`s press releases or discussed from time to time in the Company`s Securities and Exchange Commission filings. Actual results may vary materially.
News releases and other information on Altair can be accessed at no charge at Altair`s website www.altairint.com.

Company Profile
Altair International, with its proprietary Nanoparticle technology, is a company at the forefront of what can best be described as the next industrial revolution.
Nanotechnology
Through its technology division, Altair Technologies, Inc., the company has established itself as the leader in the field of Nanotechnology, which is now being recognized as a key to major advances in industries such as computing, aerospace and medicine.
Nanotechnology is the science of creating and using nano-sized materials (nanoparticles*) that makes possible the miniaturization of communications and computing equipment and the fabrication of new materials for pharmaceutical, optical and photocatalytic applications, and virtually every other building block; truly the "Material for the New Millennium".
* What are nanoparticles?
Focus
Altair is aiming its focus and allocating resources to the rapid development of new Nanotechnologies and the creation of undiscovered, and even hitherto unimagined, nanoproducts. These proprietary products enjoy patent protection and, in future, patent applications will continue to be filed for new processes.
The Company is actively pursuing commercial partnerships with industry leaders who are best positioned to take full advantage of the new potential applications being made possible by Nanotechnology.
Mining interests and assets
Altair owns leaseholds on two major heavy mineral sand deposits in Tennessee, considered as "World Class" titanium deposits, valued at approximately half a billion dollars.
In a refreshing approach to an industry which, by its very nature, receive mostly criticism from environmentalists, the Company has made significant breakthroughs in the development of mining equipment that is environmentally friendly. The patented Altair Centrifugal Jig, a combination of mechanical jig and centrifugal force, efficiently recovers extremely fine, heavy particulate matter according to different specific gravities, using no harmful additives.
Based on extensive testing results by major mining companies, the Jig is the industry`s most effective tool for fine particle separation and superior to other commercially available technologies.

Altair International has exploited knowledge developed from testing its patented
fine sand mining equipment technology into the ownership of leaseholds on a world
class titanium deposit in Tennessee. The prior leaseholder, Broken Hill Proprietary
(BHP International) also sold its U.S. demonstration plant and a unique process for
the production of titanium dioxide pigment and nanoparticles.
This is a breakthrough nanoparticle process that uses a low cost feedstock while
offering previously unobtainable control over the size, shape and phase of the
nanocrystalline output. Initial commercial shipments for use in cosmetics and
advanced hard coatings could occur in Q4 2000. Additional applications, in batteries,
fuel cells, semiconductors and catalysts are in various development stages.
Opinion
Given the high level of market interest in employing nanomaterial technology to
improve and create new product performance characteristics, we believe the market
will apply a premium valuation to the company`s shares. We are initiating coverage
with a Speculative BUY rating and a 12 month price target of $9 per share.

Shonstrom Research Associates Releases Report Discussing Nanotechnology Industry - Defines Altair`s Nanomaterial Sales Outlook
This release is from Shonstrom Research Associates which provides proprietary research to NASD firm PCS Securities, Inc. CRD # 23734
DENVER, Sept. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Michael Shonstrom has released a report on Altair International (Nasdaq: ALTI - news) which includes a study on nanotechnology and the emerging nanomaterials industry. Nanotechnology has been identified as the next major area to be driven by the microprocessor/digital age. A nanometer is one billionth of a meter.
While biomedicine, electronics and computing will be significant beneficiaries of nanoscience, nanomaterials are the first commercial application. Using nanosized grains as building blocks new supermaterials can be formed that possess greater hardness and strength while exhibiting greater ductility and plasticity than materials formed by current processes; the active surface area of catalytic nanopowders is magnitudes greater than that for presently used powders; while nanomaterial processes could make solid oxide fuel cells practical.
Altair`s proprietary material upgrading process has demonstrated in test the ability to produce commercial quantities of titanium dioxide nanocrystals at a significant cost savings over current production techniques. Bench testing has shown this process applicable to a number of other metal oxides. Commercial shipments are expected in Q4 2000.
Shonstrom Research Associates rates Altair`s stock as a Speculative Buy with a 12 month price target of $9.

Altair Announces First Nanoparticle Sale
CODY, Wyo., Oct. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Altair International Inc. (Nasdaq: ALTI - news) announces its wholly owned
subsidiary Altair Technologies Inc. (www.altairtechnologies.com) has received a purchase order from Inframat Corporation of
North Haven, CT for a plasma spray coating product containing Altair`s titania nanoparticles. The order is for four thousand
pounds of nanoparticles to be delivered during the fourth quarter of 2000. The sale marks a milestone for Altair. Less than one
year ago Altair acquired a proprietary pigment technology from BHP and redirected the activities to develop nanoparticles of
titanium dioxide for high technology applications.
Dr. David Reisner, president & CEO of Inframat said, ``Pricing is a critical driver to enable the various commercialization
opportunities that we are looking at for our thermal sprayed nanocoatings. The coatings community must be convinced that our
nanostructured thermal spray feedstocks, manufactured by a patented (U.S. Patent No. 6,025,034) wet chemistry-based
process, are not cost prohibitive -- and must appeal to commercial applications as well as the DoD applications which have
recently been certified by the Navy. To date, this certification under MIL-STD-1687a, has been accomplished using more
costly feedstock precursors. Without the attractive pricing now offered by Altair, the immediate commercialization opportunity
would likely be out of reach. From a performance standpoint, we expect this attractively priced material to retain the dramatic
performance enhancements already verified in our ceramic nanocoatings, namely exceptional wear resistance and durability.``
``We are very pleased to receive our first purchase order and its timing couldn`t be better,`` said Mr. Ken Lyon president of
Altair Technologies, Inc. ``We are nearing completion of our expanded plant just in time to deliver the quantities requested over
the required schedule. We are very appreciative of the cooperation between our scientists and those of Inframat. This sale
confirms our belief that high quality Altair products, economically produced, will find rapid market acceptance and lead to
market expansion in many areas. Altair has provided samples and trial quantities of its nanoparticle powders to laboratories and
companies in several other industries including cosmetics, catalysts, fuel cells, and other types of coatings.``

Also wird jetzt endlich Geld verdient !

Folks, as with all Altair PRs it is necessary to read between the lines. They hype everything to the hilt. Using the number 4000 lbs instead of the smaller sounding number of 2 tons makes it sound like a huge quantity. Also read the first paragraph closely and you will see that maybe all is not golden for the nanoparticles as they are supplying a product containing their nanoparticles. Does this imply they are going to produce 2 tons of nanoparicles or are they supplying 2 tons of product containing nanoparicles and at what percentage. These guys are sleaze over and over again. Why not disclose the revenue from this sale to the anxious stakeholders and shareholders who have been waiting patiently for countless years. Yes a sale is good news but a sale at a possible loss is not. I urge anyone on this board to call Bill Long and get the real scoop on this PR.

About Altair
Altair owns a proprietary technology for making nanocrystalline materials of unique quality, economically and in large quantities. The technology may also be used to make paint pigment at a cost forecast to be substantially lower than commercial technologies employed today. Altair has acquired mineral leaseholds and is in the process of developing mining operations on a major "world class" titanium mineral sand deposit in Tennessee. The company`s other principal asset is the Altair Centrifugal Jig, an environmentally friendly breakthrough technology for mining, coal treatment and environmental remediation.
The Altair Focus
Following the acquisition of nanoparticle processing technology from BHP Minerals International in November 1999, Altair has directed the company activities to prioritize the production and sale of nanoparticle products. A new division – Altair Technologies – has been formed, a nanoparticle management team has been established, and corporate resources are being enhanced and redistributed to support this effort.
Altair Acquisitions
Altair has pursued an aggressive program of acquiring valuable assets when they become available. Initially the company acquired a patented centrifugal jig for recovering fine materials, then a "World Class" titanium ilmenite ore body, and finally a titanium pigment technology to convert ilmenite from the orebody into pigment. With these three acquisitions Altair is positioned to become vertically integrated in the titanium pigment business.

Hallo an alle Nanotechs!

Also derzeit sieht alles doch recht ordentlich aus:

DENVER, Jan. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- This release is from Shonstrom Research Associates, which provides proprietary research to NASD firm PCS Securities, Inc. CRD # 23734:
Shonstrom Research Associates` list of Speculative Buy rated stocks include three candidates for upside January-effect gains. Analyst Michael Shonstrom notes that the prices of these stocks had been driven down by year end selling to the point that any uptrend in stock market prices could result in attractive risk adjusted near term returns for speculative investors.
Altair International (Nasdaq: ALTI - news) reached a low of $0.72 early in December then rallied to $2-1/4 before closing on Wednesday at $1-3/4 representing a gain of 134%. This company has developed a scaleable commercial process for producing a variety of nanomaterials at one-third the cost of other production methods and recently announced a $7.0 MM debt financing to support initial production. Applications for these materials include thermally stable solid oxide fuel cell membranes and lithium polymer storage batteries. The shares of companies involved in alternative energy and fuel cell technologies have held up well in this market, a fact which could benefit Altair`s stock price.

jetzt steigt mein Favorit.
In diesem Sinne.

FARMINGTON, Conn., Feb. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Inframat® Corporation of Farmington, Connecticut today announced that it has received certification for the use of Altair Technology`s TiNano 40 VHP titania product in its dense ceramic thermal spray feedstock, Nanox(TM) 2613 PA. The certification was made in accordance with US Navy MIL-STD-1687 for Naval Ship Machinery Applications by A&A Company, Inc., South Plainfield, NJ. A&A is an authorized MIL-STD-1687 Thermal Spray Facility.
Dr. David Reisner, President of Inframat said, ``Altairs TiNano 40 provides a more economical source of high quality nanometer-sized titania than other certified nanomaterials which have been coated on actual shipboard components. Construction Progressing at Altair`s Camden Project
CODY, Wyo., Feb. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Altair International Inc. (Nasdaq: ALTI - news) today announced that the pilot plant being erected at its Camden, Tennessee mineral property is nearing completion. The plant will process heavy mineral sands through a gravity separation system designed and fabricated by MD Mineral Technologies in Australia. Shipped in modular form, it was delivered to Camden in January, where MD Mineral Technologies is also in charge of plant erection and commissioning. Earlier site work included plant site preparation, the installation of water and power lines and the construction of an impoundment for retention of processed sand.
``Commissioning of the pilot plant is a critical milestone in the development of our Camden mineral property,`` said C. Patrick Costin, Vice President of Altair. ``The Camden site is fully permitted for pilot operations and we`re very anxious to begin processing material through the plant.``
Altair`s engineers are working closely with the MD group and will assume operational responsibility later this month. Pilot operations will establish mineral recovery factors for installed gravity circuits and generate heavy mineral concentrates in bulk quantities for ``dry-mill`` preparation of final titanium and zircon products.

Altair Announces Camden Pilot Plant Start-Up
CODY, Wyo., March 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Altair International Inc. (Nasdaq: ALTI - news) today announced that their pilot plant, which was designed, fabricated, and installed by MD Mineral Technologies, was tested with sand ore last week. The plant was brought to full design capacity and worked well from the beginning.
Norm Stouffer, Manager of Pilot Operations, said, ``It`s a well conceived design and particular care was given to accommodate balance of multiple slurry circuits. It is an easy to operate plant.`` Mr. Stouffer is now installing a plant sampling system to allow the testing of multiple plant process streams at the same time -- basically a metallurgical `snapshot` in time to allow assessment of plant efficiency.
Four hundred tons of sand have been excavated and placed at the plant site. This material will be used to fine tune plant operations. As this is accomplished, we intend to establish mineral recovery factors for installed gravity circuits and generate heavy mineral concentrates in bulk quantities for ``dry-mill`` preparation of final titanium and zircon products.

Altair Fuel Cell Program Advances
CODY, Wyo., March 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Altair International Inc. (Nasdaq: ALTI) announced today that the nanoparticle based fuel cell development of its subsidiary Altair Technologies, Inc. (www.altairtechnologies.com) has advanced on schedule. The goal of Altair is to produce a reliable and economic nano-materials based solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) system. Results and developments discussed at the Spring quarterly progress review meeting between scientists at Altair and MIT will be released soon.
A new porous yttria-stabilized zirconia catalyst support structure was developed at the Altair research laboratory in Reno, Nevada under the direction of Dr. Bruce Sabacky, Manager of Research and Alternative Energy. Under Dr. Sabacky`s overall direction the new Altair support structure and solid electrolyte will be employed by Altair for in-situ reforming of common fuels in use today, controlled oxidation of fuel gases in the anode, and ultimately, electrical generation from the reactions.
The recent completion of Altair`s integrated nanoparticle production unit in Reno was a key factor in the availability of the nanoparticle-sized stabilized zirconia material required for the fuel cell project. The new unit has demonstrated capability to make lithium titanate spinel, yttria-stabilized zirconia, and titania. Its performance can be duplicated in the commercial production unit.

ALTAIR EXECUTES AGREEMENT WITH CMS ENERGY
CODY, WY -- Altair International Inc. (NASDAQ:ALTI) announced today that
its subsidiary Altair Technologies, Inc. (www.altairtechnologies.com)
and CMS Enterprises Development, a subsidiary of CMS Energy (NYSE:CMS)
have entered into a collaboration agreement that provides for developing
nanostructured powders of zirconia from CMS high purity Zirconium Oxides
or Hydrates. Altair has previously announced its process for making nanopartic
les of yttrium-stabilized zirconia. One of the feedstocks used by Altair
at its facilities in Reno, Nevada was supplied by CMS.
The collaboration agreement provides for the two companies to work together
to identify the optimum feedstock and processing conditions to develop
the best product from Altair`s process utilizing feedstock from CMS Energy`s
industrial minerals production facility in Colorado. CMS` toll processing
facility, owned and operated by Cotter Corp., located near Canon, City
utilizes a proprietary process to remove impurities from mineral bearing
ores and alternate feed material. It recovers zirconia, silica and uranium
from existing ore sources.
The new process marks CMS Energy`s entry into the industrial minerals
markets. The high purity of its products is of particular interest to
Altair because of its unique process for producing nano sized YSZ for
fuel cells and for thermal spray applications.
Specifics of the agreement are confidential, but it provides wide latitude
for cooperation in manufacturing and sales of high purity nanostructured
zirconia products. Ken Lyon, president of Altair Technologies said, "We
are very pleased to have the opportunity to work with the CMS people and
look forward to a mutually profitable cooperative effort."
Sandy Philips, manager of business development and markets for CMS concurs
stating, "This opportunity exists to link CMS International presence and
resources to Altair nanoparticles technology."

Research Update
Speculative BUY
May 15, 2001
Altair International
(ALTI - Nasdaq NM)
Cody, WY
NANOMATERIALS TECHNOLOGY LEADER
Altair has developed an ilmenite upgrading process that allows for the
precise control of the shape and size of crystals and the ability to produce
commercial quantities of micro and nanostructured materials.
The company has developed a pilot plant to prove out a world class titanium
sand deposit.
DuPont Enters Nanomaterials Market - Validates Opportunity
On January 9th, DuPont (DD -43 $) and Air Products and Chemicals (APD
-40 $) announced a joint venture, DA NanoMaterials, to produce silica
nanoparticles for the chemical mechanical planarization (CMP) market now
dominated by Cabot Microelectronics (CCMP - $73). These companies produce
slurries that use silica oxides for the precision polishing of silicon
wafers and magnetic heads and the manufacturing of semiconductors (see
www.nanoslurry.com).
DuPont identifies the microelectronic/semiconductor market for silica
oxide (SiO2) slurries as being $0.5 B in size and growing at 25% annually.
Cabot Micro which has a dominant share of the market has estimated market
growth at a more lusty 60% per year.
At present fumed silica is the oxide used for microelectronic slurries
because of cost and availability. However, it may well be that other
metal oxides such as titanium dioxide could be used in this or similar
applications in the future. Untreated fumed silica sells for $5-7 per
pound in bulk. We estimate Cabot sells it`s patented chemically treated
slurries for several times that amount.
Titanium dioxide`s hardness could be a beneficial attribute when used
in a CMP process and Altair`s ability to produce a high quality, consistently
shaped and sized nanoparticles may offer the company an opportunity in
this market. Importantly, the company`s low cost dense film process technology
would enable them to compete on price.
New Products
Until recently, Altair has only offered a 40 nanometer titanium dioxide
(TiO2) product TiNano 40. But in April, the company announced the availability
of test samples of 20 nm.Yttria Stablized Zirconia (YSZ) and Lithium
Titanate Spinel (Li4Ti5O12) that can be produced using the company`s dense
phase process.
These introductions demonstrate that the company`s technology is not limited
to producing only TiO2, which lies on the commodity end of nanomaterials.
Further, these composites are applicable in highly advanced technologies.
In the case of nanosized Lithium titanate spinel this composite has never
been commercially produced at the 100% purity level achieved by Altair.
Its electrical characteristics create superior battery performance by
allowing for faster recharging and a longer usage time-frame before deteriorati
on in charge holding ability. The other composite, YSZ, is applicable
in advanced thermal spray hard coatings and will be tested soon by MIT
in micron sized structures for solid oxide fuel cells.
Collaboration with CMS Energy on Highly Pure Zirconium
Altair has been obtaining some of its YSZ feedstock from a subsidiary
of CMS Energy (CMS - $29.50). The two have entered into a collaboration
agreement to take highly pure zirconium oxides and hydrates produced by
CMS and develop nanostructured zirconium powders using Altair`s process.
CMS has revenues of $9 B, which would suggest that they see this business
opportunity to be sizable. This is a further validation of industry
belief in the future of nanomaterials and in Altair`s process technology.
Other Potential Customers
Over 200 test samples of titanium nanomaterials have been sent to a wide
collection of interested parties. One such company, Agilent Technologies
(A - $38) has allowed Altair to announce the establishment of a relationship
but because it is subject to a secrecy agreement has not disclosed the
application. Altair has signed a series of similar non-disclosure agreements
with other Fortune 1000 companies to include electronics, non-ferrous
metals and fine chemicals producers. This points to the strategic nature,
which these companies confer on this technology. Management expects
to release additional announcements involving product sales, distribution
agreements and other collaborations in the coming months.
Executive Added
The company has hired Thomas Brewer, Ph.D. as National Sales Manager.
Dr. Brewer was previously with Millennium Chemicals (MCH - $16) a $1.7
B revenue based company that is the second largest worldwide distributor
of titanium dioxide pigment, intermediates and ultrafine particles. He
was drawn to Altair by the market opportunities developing for the company`s
nanomaterials and will be located on the East Coast working to develop
sales from the many companies that have already received test materials.
Altair is also looking to add a plant manager to oversee the migration
of the facilities from the development stage to long run production cycles.
Timing of Initial Shipments
Our earlier sales projections were based upon assumptions that Imperial
Chemical`s (ICI - $24) departure from the cosmetic grade TiO2 sunscreen
market would open up an opportunity with one or more distributors of cosmetic
intermediates. While this did not come to fruition, the company continues
to pursue this market and will now be aided by Dr. Brewer`s efforts.
The company is experiencing long lead times associated with the testing
and product qualification approval necessary to develop orders. Additionally,
customers need to assure themselves of Altair`s capacity to produce the
quantities needed. Given the limited time that the nanomaterials production
facilities have been in existence, the company has made excellent strides
in satisfying these requirements. Conversations on supply agreements
with several companies are in advanced stages and these discussions have
included product orders as well as joint ventures, collaborations and/or
licensing agreements where production facilities may be developed on the
customer`s premises.
Financing
The company has received $7.0 MM from a 2 year, exchangeable, asset-backed
note at 10% interest, which includes warrants to purchase 350,000 shares
at $3.00. The terms call for monthly principal and interest payments
in cash or stock, the latter exchangeable at the average of the three
lowest closing prices in the 15 days prior to payment. Should the company
repay with all common stock, this would represent the issuance of an additional
3.6 million shares at the current price. A registration statement has
been filed to cover those shares.
As of the beginning of Q1 01, the company had $3.6 MM in cash on the balance
sheet. The company`s burn rate in 2000 was roughly $1.2 MM per quarter.
At this rate we would expect the company to need to raise additional
funds sometime in Q2 or Q3.
Outlook
The markets for the company`s nanomaterials are in their formative stages.
The development of slurries, suspensions and dispersions to meet customer
specifications has taken time. Product and plant qualification has done
so as well. As a result commercial shipments have not as yet taken place
(proceeds from the sale of test materials have been netted against costs).
Nevertheless, opportunities remain significant. We note that Nanophase
(NANX - $10.39) arguably the leader in the development of nanomaterials
technology, has seen its stock price double since its low in March. It
also commands a $139.0 MM market capitalization despite only $4.7 MM in
trailing 12-month revenues along with continuing losses of the same magnitude.
Management believes that the order quantities under discussion and the
scalability of its process could enable them to match if not exceed Nanophase`s
revenue run rate with a lower operating cost profile in the foreseeable
future.
As a result, we believe orders validating Altair`s process will offer
the market compelling evidence of its potential and the valuation gap
between it and Nanophase will narrow. We believe this will also enable
the company to raise adequate funds for development stage costs and working
capital needs. As a result, we continue to recommend the stock as a
Speculative BUY for those with profiles suited to speculating in high
risk - high return equities.

Investors rarely have the opportunity to get into both the stock of a company and into a sector before these become householdw ords and have seen significant price appreciation. It is our opinion that the opportunity to do just that exists with Altair.
Here we have a company with all the pieces in place:
a sector whose technology will change almost every extant manufacturing process, a company with a state-of-the art technology that excels that of the competition, a complete laboratory, testing and manufacturing facility at one site. Strategic relationships with intellectual and business giants and seasoned management complete the story. We believe this is the opportune time to invest in Altair International.

FURTHER CONFIRMATION OF ALTAIR`S BREAKTHROUGH MATERIAL FOR RECHARGEABLE
LITHIUM ION BATTERIES
Reno, NV - November 1, 2001 - Altair Nanotechnologies Inc. (NASDAQ:ALTI)
announced today that world renown battery expert, Dr. K. M. Abraham, independen
tly confirmed that Altair`s proprietary Li4Ti5O12 nanomaterials have
made it possible to achieve lithium ion charging and discharging rates
10 to 100 times higher than with materials commercially available today.
According to Abraham, capacities close to the theoretical values can
be obtained from these materials at exceptionally high rates making the
Altair materials suitable for the development of high power, rechargeable
lithium ion batteries. Altair currently has six patents pending and has
filed for a patent application relating to its unique Li4Ti5O12 nanomaterials.
Dr. Abraham noted that the lithium ion battery has many advantages over
three water-based electrolyte systems and, because of these advantages,
lithium ion batteries are increasingly becoming the battery of choice
for portable consumer products such as cellular telephones and notebook
computers. "As result of the proliferation of these and other portable
consumer products," continued Abraham, " the rechargeable lithium ion
battery business is expected to generate tens of billions of dollars in
sales in the not too distant future."
A potential market for Li4Ti5O12 - based rechargeable lithium ion batteries
is the replacement of the lead-acid and nickel-cadmium batteries currently
used in automotive traction (golf carts, fork lifts, wheel chairs and
bicycles), uninterrupted power supplies (UPS) in the telecommunications
industry, and in various military applications. These applications are
aided by the fact that nano-sized Li4Ti5O12 -based lithium batteries
have the ability to undergo charge/discharge cycles with little fade in
capacity for thousands of cycles. Other potential markets for Li4Ti5O12
-based lithium ion batteries are as power sources for hybrid electric
vehicles and for the fabrication of high-power hybrid electrochemical
cells.
"We are excited about the potential utilization of Altair`s nanomaterial
Li4Ti5O12 in lithium ion batteries," said Altair Nanomaterials Inc.
president Kenneth E. Lyon (www.altairtechnologies.com). "This presents
a significant opportunity for Altair and we plan to aggressively pursue
marketing opportunities for this unique proprietary material." To provide
the additional working capital needs to pursue these opportunities, an
individual investor with a substantial share position is exercising re-priced
warrants. To date, Altair has received $250,000 from the exercise of
these warrants and, assuming all re-priced warrants are exercised, the
company will receive a total of approximately $700,000.
Dr. Abraham has made pioneering scientific contributions in primary
and secondary lithium batteries, lithium ion batteries, liquid and polymer
batteries, rechargeable Na batteries, materials synthesis and characterization
and battery engineering. Dr. Abraham has authored or co-authored more
than one hundred articles and book chapters and sixteen U.S. patents.
He has delivered numerous invited presentations at technical meetings
worldwide. He is the recipient of honors and awards including the Battery
Division Research Award for Rechargeable Lithium Battery Team, 1995.
He has been elected a fellow of the Electrochemical Society, Class of
2000.
Dr. Abraham reviewed a report prepared by principal investigator Dr. Ladislav
Kavan of the J. Heyrovsky Institute, Prague Czech Republic performed at
the Ecole Polytechnique Federal de Lausanne (EPFL), under the general
direction of Dr. Michael Gratzel.
What is Li4Ti5O12
Lithium Titanate Spinel is a specific crystalline phase of lithium titanate
with a formula of Li4Ti5O12. Altair`s process produces Lithium Titanate
Spinel of nearly 100 percent purity. Li4Ti5O12 ,Lithium Titanate Spinel,
is expected to revolutionize the battery industry through its ability
to provide lithium ion batteries with extremely fast recharging capability
as well as a high power and a long cycle life not found in today`s lithium
ion batteries. Altair is currently the only company capable of manufacturing
economically priced commercial quantities of 100 percent nano Lithium
Titanate Spinel.

Stabilized zirconia is one of the dominant materials used today in thermal spray coatings. These coatings protect metals subjected to corrosion caused by intense heat or extreme conditions and are applicable for power generation products and jet engines. The company currently sells its nanostructured thermal spray products to Inframat Corporation, a thermal spray technology, development and production company, and F.W. Gartner Thermal Spray, a nationally recognized supplier of high quality thermal spray services. Thermal spray services represent a $1.3 billion industry.
"Nanosized materials such as our stabilized zirconia have demonstrated improved performance over micron-sized materials used in most commercially available thermal spray products," commented Altair Nanotechnologies president Kenneth E. Lyon. "Our process provides the benefits of economics, scalability and control of the particle size used in the production of stabilized zirconia," added Lyon. Products covered by the patent application include zirconia stabilized by a variety of materials including calcium, magnesium, yttrium, and rare earth oxides in a wide variety of compositions.
"Our patent filings provide a significant benefit to our shareholders," said Lyon. "They increase Altair`s intellectual properties, which creates a positive effect on our asset base, and they protect our long-term operating position within the nanotechnology industry." Lyon went on to note that the patent filings related to the nano-sized stabilized zirconia make it possible for the company to be more aggressive in discussing its nanomaterials and processes with potential business development partners and prospective investors within the financial community. In addition to the seven patent applications filed previously, Altair has several additional patent applications in various stages of development.
Altair`s nano-sized stabilized zirconia is also a major component in the development of the company`s solid oxide fuel cell core (SOFC) program. SOFC applications have been attracting worldwide attention due to their high-energy conversion efficiency and their improved performance with regards to pollution and use of natural resources including fossil fuels. The fuel cell market for SOFC applications, which includes on-site power systems, transportation applications and utility companies, is estimated to be $360 million by 2005. Altair believes it will have its first working SOFC fuel cell power unit available by the end of the first quarter in 2002. What is Stabilized Zirconia
Zirconia is a white powder used in making, among other things, furnace linings and pigments. When stabilized with yttrium, the zirconia is extremely strong and becomes a good oxygen ion conducting material that is able to sustain temperatures up to 2,000 degrees centigrade -- the perfect material for solid oxide fuel cell cores and products such a thermal sprays. Hallo Leute.
mal was interessantes von Altair`s Geschäftsfelder.
INFO
08.01. 21:56
Brennstoffzellenaktien nicht grundlos Überflieger
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
