DR GREG WINTER APPOINTED TO PEPTECH BOARD
We are extremely pleased to be able to announce the appointment of Dr
Greg Winter CBE, FRS, PhD as Non Executive Director of Peptech. For
the sake of those who have not heard of him, allow me to briefly give
the background and major achievements of this world renowne
d
scientist.
In the early 1980s, animal monoclonal antibodies were used in human
therapeutics. Problems were however encountered when these animal
antibodies were administered as the natural human immune system would
develop human antibodies directed against the foreign animal
antibodies. In 1986, Greg Winter developed a technique of humanising
antibodies. This technique eliminated most of the adverse reactions
of the animal antibodies and has currently become the most widel
y
used commercial technology for the development of antibodies used in
human therapeutics. Humanised antibodies have proven their efficacy
and safety as exemplified by those antibodies already in the market,
like Medimmune`s Synagis and Genentech`s Herceptin as well as the
many currently in clinical trials like Abbott`s D2E7.
Greg Winter was a founder and director of Cambridge Antibody
Technology, a company listed on the London Stock Exchange with a
market capitalisation app
roximating A$1.5 billion. He is currently
the Joint Head of the Protein and Nucleic Acid Chemistry Division of
the UK Medical Research Council - Laboratory of Molecular Biology
("MRC-LMB") and Deputy Director of the Centre for Protein Engineering
in Cambridge. The MRC is one of the most famous biological research
laboratories in the world having been associated with 10 Nobel
Prize winners.
Greg Winter has dominated the field of antibody and protein
engineering for the past t
hirteen years. He is one of the world`s
leading experts on the development of novel protein based therapeutic
drugs. He and Dr Ian Tomlinson, have now established a company,
Diversys Ltd to exploit both the established methods and radically
new ones for the production and testing of protein-based drugs and
diagnostics. Peptech announced recently that it had entered into a
subscription agreement to acquire up to 33.6% in Diversys and had
also entered into a joint research coll
aboration with Diversys.
Greg Winter`s appointment to the Board is not only in line with
Peptech`s determination to become a globally recognised player in the
antibody and protein engineering field but is also in furtherance to
the policy of strengthening the Board of Peptech by the appointment
of highly reputable and responsible individuals.

Alles Gute weiterhin, Bernimaus

Servus Berni,
Hast du denn was feines kleines was du mir entfehlen würdest?

Peptech’s Diversys appoints new Chief Scientist
May 22, 2001
Peptech Ltd (PTD) announced this morning that its subsidiary, UK-based Diversys, has appointed Dr Ian Tomlinson as Chief Scientific Officer.
Diversys is a Cambridge-based protein engineering company in which Peptech has an agreement to purchase up to 33.6%, announced on 18 May 2001 that Dr Tomlinson, one of the Company`s founders and currently a Non-Executive Director, will direct the expansion of the Company`s R&D efforts and manage its scientific alliances.
This announcement follows a US$20 million cash infusion earlier in the year from Peptech, and from the company`s original financial backers, London-based venture capital company MVM Ltd.
Diversys CEO Robert Connelly said, "Ian Tomlinson is recognised worldwide as an expert in protein and antibody engineering. The combination of his scientific expertise, together with his intimate knowledge of our technology portfolio and the corresponding intellectual property landscape makes him a unique fit for a company that will commercialise through business development.”
Dr Tomlinson is a Group Leader at the UK Medical Research Council`s Laboratory of Molecular Biology (MRC-LMB) in Cambridge, UK. He has been at the LMB for the past 11 years, where initially he worked on the completion of the sequencing of all human antibody genes.
More recently, his work has focused on engineering antibodies and protein array screening, culminating in the publication of the first high density antibody array last September.
Commenting on his appointment, Dr Tomlinson said, "I am delighted to be joining Diversys full time. The recent deals with Peptech and MVM are further confirmation of the potential of these technologies."
In a rather cryptic addition to Peptech’s announcement today, it stated: “Over the coming months, the company expects to announce the completion of its executive management team and the signing of a number of additional research and development deals.”
At 1016 AEST, Peptech shares were 2c lower at $2.72.
