Next Generation 2Gb Open Fabric Technology Brings New Capabilities to Storage Area Networks
SAN JOSE, Calif., May 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Gadzoox Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq: ZOOX - news), a supplier of intelligent storage networking products, announced today that Compaq Computer Corporation (NYSE: CPQ - news) is integrating the company`s new 2Gb Fibre Channel fabric technology into future Compaq entry level Storage Area Network (SAN) storage solutions. Gadzoox Networks was chosen by Compaq for its leadership, technology, value and time-to-market.

The availability of 2Gb fabric switches signals the next wave of technology that enables customers to optimize the SAN. As the speed of the switch and the surrounding infrastructure increases to 2Gb, the overall throughput of the network increases, improving the performance of applications such as backup, Online Transaction Processing (OLTP), and data warehousing. This increase to 2Gb also enables high-speed backbones within the SAN, which can lower overall costs by requiring fewer 2Gb switches to deliver a customer`s bandwidth requirements when compared to 1Gb switches. In addition, standards-based auto-negotiation between 2Gb and 1Gb connections allows customers to move to 2Gb while protecting their legacy investment.
