      @all

      Hallo!
      Keiner mehr investiert?
      Keiner eine Meinung?

Metromedia Fiber Network to Provide Private Optical Network and World-Class Co-Location for Archipelago

Archipelago to Use MFN`s Network for Disaster Recovery Backup of Mission Critical and Sensitive Data.
NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 16, 2001-- Metromedia Fiber Network, Inc. (MFN) (Nasdaq: MFNX - news), the leading provider of digital communications infrastructure solutions, will provide Archipelago, a leading Chicago-based electronic communications network (ECN), with private high-bandwidth metro area optical Internet infrastructure and co-location services.

Archipelago will use the private optical network to connect its New York and Chicago facilities in a real-time disaster recovery system to protect customer data.

Under the 10-year agreement, MFN will lease fiber-optic infrastructure to Archipelago allowing the ECN to securely connect its Data Center and Communications Disaster Recovery facilities and support its mission-critical trading operations. Additionally, Archipelago will take advantage of MFN`s extensive co-location facilities enabling it to eliminate the local loop charges normally associated with connecting to multiple telecommunication service providers. This agreement provides Archipelago with its own dedicated and unshared communications network, and the ability to add bandwidth to meet increased trading volume and demand.

``Archipelago is continuing to demonstrate its technological leadership in the financial services industry by taking advantage of MFN`s optical Internet infrastructure and co-location solution,`` said Otto Chan, president, North America, of Metromedia Fiber Network. ``ECNs like Archipelago benefit from MFN`s secure and private end-to-end fiber-optic network that is cost-effective and easily scalable with user demand.``

``Archipelago selected MFN`s data center to be part of its disaster recovery network because it offers one of the most secure and reliable data center environments in the industry,`` said Steven C. Rubinow, chief technology officer, Archipelago. ``Each data center is built to the highest standards with multiple levels of redundancy in an effort to withstand natural disasters, security breaches (physical and cyber), power outages, and networking and computing failures,`` added Rubinow.

      About Archipelago

Archipelago was formed in December 1996 with software developer Townsend Analytics. It is one of the original four ECNs approved in January 1997 by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Archipelago uses a proprietary algorithm to find the best price for orders and provides an open limit order book for Nasdaq and listed stocks. Its leading-edge technology, open architecture and innovations facilitate the best execution for investors.

Archipelago is also the only ECN with major investors in both institutional and retail financial services sectors. The Archipelago trading system provides investors fast, cost-efficient and anonymous access to the market. Its average daily volume has almost quadrupled since June 1999. In July 2000, Archipelago and the Pacific Exchange closed their definitive agreement to create the first fully electronic national stock exchange for New York Stock Exchange, American Stock Exchange and Nasdaq stocks, subject to Securities and Exchange Commission approval.

MFN opens new Dublin data centre
      Thursday, October 18 2001
      by Louise Carroll
      Send story to a friend
      Print this story
Metromedia Fiber Network has opened a new data centre in Dublin
representing a USD65 million investment and the creation of 70 jobs.

Despite recent unrest in the data centre industry, Metromedia Fiber
Network has moved forward with the investment in its new CityWest
facility, its largest in Europe. The opening follows announcements in
September from MFN that the company was having financial problems,
but the company`s USD110 million investments in the Dublin centre and
city fibre ring had gone through before MFN was refinanced.

On 01 October MFN secured USD611 million from a consortium including
Citycorp, existing investors and vendor financing. In an interview with
ElectricNews.Net Noel Meaney, managing director of MFN in Ireland,
said the company now expects to be cash flow positive in early 2002.

In the past few weeks Exodus went bankrupt; but Meaney distanced
MFN`s woes from the troubles Exodus has experienced. He said, "We
were hurt by the dot.com fall-out, but not like Exodus. We have been
fortunate that 50 percent of our customers are enterprises such as
government, finance institutions and the pharmaceutical industry."

MFN is targeting more of these large institutions with its services in the
new data centre. Meaney said, "We are an outsourcing company. We
outsource our infrastructure and sell storage on demand." The centre
will also offer co-location and connectivity services as well as disaster
      recovery.

As well as announcing the opening of the data centre, MFN has finished
the extension of its Tier1 IP backbone link for connections from Ireland
to international networks and the first phase of MFN`s USD40 million
metropolitan ring of 75 kilometres of fibre under the city has now been
      switched on.

MFN also announced a new customer at the facility, Deecal
International, an Irish company that offers software and solutions for
      the corporate credit card business.

Taoiseach, Bertie Ahern who was present at the launch said,
"Metromedia Fiber Network`s very significant investment in Ireland`s
infrastructure is highly important to this country. It is a strong
endorsement of our strategy to position Ireland as a major e-hub for
      Europe."

MFN has 30 existing employees in Ireland and expects that it will have
100 with the additional resource requirement from the new facility in
      Citywest.

MFN`s SiteMove Seamlessly Transitions Fifteen Customers to MFN Data Centers and Its Site Operations Platform
      TUESDAY, OCTOBER 23, 2001 7:35 AM
      - BusinessWire

NEW YORK, Oct 23, 2001 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Metromedia Fiber Network, Inc. (MFN) (Nasdaq:MFNX), the leading provider of digital communications infrastructure solutions, has successfully automated the process for moving Internet sites from one data center to another without incurring significant downtime.

Through its SiteMove service MFN has enabled fifteen companies to transition seamlessly to MFN`s data centers and its Site Operations Platform(TM) (SOP), a comprehensive Internet infrastructure managed services solution.

Historically Global 2000 companies have been reluctant to move operational Internet sites as they believed the potential risk of service interruption and the moving costs outweighed the potential benefits. MFN developed the SiteMove service specifically to eliminate these concerns. As a result, Global 2000 companies can move to MFN`s state-of-the-art data centers and its award-winning Site Operations Platform with confidence. With fifteen successful SiteMove deployments, MFN has demonstrated its expertise in flawlessly moving Internet sites. Companies include BarPoint.com, GFInet, HomeGain, Muze, Topica, ViAir and Homestore.com, Inc.

"We are committed to providing our carrier customers with the stringent service availability that they demand," said Justin Webb, executive vice president of product management at ViAir, a mobile applications management and services delivery provider for wireless carriers. "MFN`s proven track record with its established site service and reputation for superior customer service made it an ideal service provider for us. A testament to its capabilities, the transition to the MFN facility was incredibly efficient and transparent to our customers."

Each step of the SiteMove service is designed to maximize efficiency and minimize risk. Customers receive detailed progress reports and insurance coverage throughout the migration, beginning with the initial complete SiteAudit to assess the customer`s business and technical requirements in moving through the full migration to MFN`s SOP. The award-winning SOP combines all of the infrastructure elements in creating and maintaining a world-class Internet presence, including site architecture, hardware and software selection, co-location, network connectivity and ongoing management and services, all at a fixed monthly fee.

"We have been very pleased with MFN`s SiteMove service, and we continue to be fully operable at optimum levels of security and scalability, while completing our transition to MFN`s Site Operation Platform," stated Russ Lewis, executive vice president and chief information officer of GFInet, Inc., a hybrid voice and on-line brokerage service.

"SiteMove is yet another example of our commitment to provide our customers with a complete outsourced solution for their Internet infrastructure needs," said Mark Spagnolo, MFN`s president and chief operating officer. "With our proven SiteMove process, customers can feel confident that we can successfully move their Internet sites to our state-of-the-art data centers and SOP."

      PALO ALTO, Calif. and SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 29, 2001--

San Mateo Regional Network Gains Access to Leading

      Bay Area Peering Infrastructure

PAIX.net, Inc. (PAIX)(SM), a subsidiary of Metromedia Fiber Network (MFN) (Nasdaq:MFNX, news, msgs)
and the leading neutral Internet Exchange, and eXchange Colocation, LLC(TM), a leading provider of carrier
hotel facilities and `Class A` neutral co-location space, today announced the signing of their first joint
"Peering by PAIX" customer in eXchange`s center located at 200 Paul Avenue in San Francisco.

San Mateo Regional Network, Inc. (SMRN), a modern data communications facility designed to serve the
municipal governments and special districts in San Mateo County, has signed a one-year agreement, in
which it will co-locate at eXchange and connect to and exchange traffic over PAIX`s layer 2 switch fabric.
Through "Peering by PAIX" SMRN will not only be able to publicly and privately peer with the extensive
customer base at eXchange, but it will also have the ability to immediately interconnect with more than 100
participants in PAIX`s Palo Alto facility. This robust connectivity will be available to all the participating
cities and districts that use the SMRN network as a peering point for IP traffic.

"Our customers demand the highest quality of network access and `Peering by PAIX` provides a secure and reliable peering infrastructure
that our customers can count on," said Daryl Jones, president and chief executive officer of San Mateo Regional Network. "The addition of
PAIX`s switch fabric to eXchange`s `Class A` centers will allow our customers to exchange traffic with a number of new customers located
      there."

"We believe that the demand for `Peering by PAIX` in the Bay Area will be high because of the vast number of Internet-centric companies
located here," said Paul Vixie, president of PAIX.net, Inc. "The signing of SMRN has added immediate value to the switches in each location
because of the aggregated network connectivity that San Mateo Regional Network provides. In addition, its network customers can
exchange traffic with customers of eXchange and PAIX through a single switch port."

PAIX recently installed a layer 2 switch fabric in the eXchange facility, which is connected to the PAIX Palo Alto facility and allows for public
peering within the eXchange campus and private peering between the two facilities. Participants anywhere on this network can connect with
one another at bandwidths up to a full gigabit per second. By joining forces, eXchange Center and PAIX provide customers with unparalleled
metro-area reach, Internet peering and inter-connectivity.

"Offering `Peering by PAIX` through the eXchange Center in San Francisco is a critical addition to the Bay Area communications
infrastructure," noted Michael Chapman, director of marketing for eXchange. "Now ISPs, ASPs, enterprise businesses and telecom service
providers based in San Francisco can have immediate access to a huge number of carriers and ISPs."

Metromedia Fiber Network, Inc. Reports Third Quarter 2001 Results
      NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 7, 2001--

Company Streamlined Operations, Increased Revenues 76% to $91.5 million and Remains on Target to be EBITDA Positive in 2002

Metromedia Fiber Network, Inc. (MFN) (Nasdaq: MFNX), the leading provider of digital communications infrastructure solutions, reported third quarter results for the period ended September 30, 2001.

Revenues for the quarter ended September 30, 2001 increased 76% to $91.5 million, compared to $51.9 million reported for the quarter ended September 30, 2000. Revenues were in the range of the Company`s revised guidance of $91.0 million to $93.0 million. For the nine months ended September 30, 2001, the Company reported revenues of $260.2 million, which represented an increase of 105% over revenues of $127.1 million for the nine months ended September 30, 2000.

On October 2, 2001, the Company announced that it completed a $611 million financing package. The Company also announced several organizational and senior management changes. MFN`s new executive management team is comprised of Nick Tanzi, chief executive officer, Mark Spagnolo, president and chief operating officer, and Randall Lay, chief financial officer. Stephen Garofalo, the founder of MFN, continues to serve as chairman of the board.

In the third quarter, MFN also completed the integration of its AboveNet and SiteSmith acquisitions and is now operating as a single, unified company doing business under the MFN brand. Through this process, the Company also reduced headcount as part of a continuing effort to decrease expenses.

"Throughout the third quarter we focused and achieved our two important goals - securing financing and streamlining operations," said Nick Tanzi, chief executive officer of MFN.

"We have made significant strides in integrating MFN and its subsidiaries, AboveNet and SiteSmith, into a single company, thereby reducing our overall operating costs," said Mark Spagnolo, president and chief operating officer of MFN. "We now have a single sales, operations and infrastructure organization to support and expand our customer base and take MFN to the next stage of its development."

The Company reported a net loss of $242.1 million, or $0.39 per share, for the third quarter ended September 30, 2001, compared to a net loss of $95.3 million, or $0.17 per share, reported for the same period last year. For the nine months ended September 30, 2001, the Company reported a net loss of $595.7 million, or $1.00 per share, compared to a net loss of $272.5 million, or $0.51 per share, for the same period in 2000. The increase in net loss was primarily attributable to the acquisition of SiteSmith and the related goodwill amortization and increased overhead and fixed costs to support the Company`s network expansion.

The Company`s earnings before interest, other income and expenses, taxes, depreciation, amortization and non-cash deferred compensation expense (normalized EBITDA) improved to a loss of $35.0 million for the third quarter of 2001, which was in the range of the Company`s revised guidance of a normalized EBITDA loss of between $31 million and $35 million. The normalized EBITDA loss for the third quarter of 2000 was $37.6 million. For the nine months ended September 30, 2001, the Company reported a normalized EBITDA loss of $130.4 million compared to a normalized EBITDA loss of $100.7 million for the 2000 nine month period.

For the third quarter of 2001, cost of sales was $63.4 million compared to $50.7 million for the third quarter of 2000. For the 2001 nine month period, cost of sales was $205.5 million compared to $133.5 million for the same period of 2000. The 2001 increase was primarily the result of costs associated with an increased number of customers and higher fixed costs associated with the operation of the Company`s network.

Gross margins continued to improve increasing to 31% for the third quarter of 2001 compared to 2% for the third quarter of 2000 and 16% for the second quarter of 2001. The improvement in gross margins is the result of the reduction in headcount and decreases in the Company`s expenses for data circuits together with increases in revenues.

Selling, general and administrative expense for the third quarter of 2001 was $63.1 million, or 69.0% of revenues, as compared to $38.7 million, or 75% of revenues, for the same period last year. For the nine months ended September 30, 2001, selling, general and administrative expense was $185.1 million, or 71% of revenues, compared to $94.4 million, or 74% of revenues, for the same period of 2000. While selling, general and administrative expense increased primarily due to a year-over-year increase in headcount and other overhead to support the Company`s network expansion, selling, general and administrative expense decreased as a percentage of revenues through recent cost reductions and more efficient operations.

Depreciation and amortization expense was $125.7 million for the quarter ended September 30, 2001, compared to $46.0 million for the quarter ended September 30, 2000. For the nine months ended September 30, 2001, depreciation and amortization expense was $288.9 million compared to $118.6 million for the same period in 2000. The 2001 increase was primarily the result of an increase in amortization of goodwill relating to the acquisition of SiteSmith and increased investment in the Company`s fiber-optic network and additional property and equipment acquired.

Some of the companies that signed contracts with MFN since June 30, 2001 include:

      - Sony Pictures Digital Entertainment

      - Microsoft Corporation`s MSN Network

      - GFINet, Inc.

      - Homegain

      - Lumenos

      - InsideOut Technologies

      - Topps

Below is additional information for the quarter.

      - Internet infrastructure sales for the third quarter of 2001
were $56 million, or 61% of total revenues for the third
quarter of 2001. This represented an increase of 44% from
Internet infrastructure sales of $39 million for the third
      quarter of 2000.

      - Optical infrastructure sales were $36 million, or 39% of total
revenues for the third quarter of 2001. This represented an
increase of 177% from optical infrastructure sales of $13
million for the third quarter of 2000. Carrier revenues were
$29 million, or 81% of optical infrastructure sales, for the
      third quarter of 2001.

      - MFN had approximately 2.1 million fiber miles deployed at the
end of the third quarter of 2001, consisting of approximately
1.7 million intra-city fiber miles and 357,000 intercity fiber
miles. This was an increase of 5% over last quarter`s reported
      2.0 million fiber miles.

      - As of September 30, 2001, MFN had fiber optic infrastructure
operational in 29 cities. This is unchanged from last quarter
as the Company prioritized its build out and allocated its
capital resources toward the cities that had the greatest
      demand.

      Management Outlook

The following outlook note contains forward-looking statements that are based on MFN management`s best judgment at this time. Weakening economic conditions, which have been accelerated by recent tragic events, have increased business uncertainty, thereby making forecasting much more difficult for the Company.

      - The Company reaffirmed its previous revenue and EBITDA
guidance for the fourth quarter of 2001. For the fourth
quarter, the Company previously provided revenue guidance of
$100 million to $103 million, which, when combined with the
actual results for the first three quarters of 2001, would
represent an increase of 91% to 93% in 2001 revenues compared
to 2000 revenues. The normalized EBITDA guidance for the
fourth quarter of 2000 is a loss of $3 million to $9 million,
which does not include any one-time costs associated with the
closing of the Company`s recent financing. As previously
announced, due to continued cost reductions and expense
controls, the Company expects to become EBITDA positive in
      early 2002.

      - Capital expenditures were $388 million and $1.2 billion for
the third quarter and nine months of 2001, respectively. The
Company expects capital expenditures to be approximately $1.3
      billion for 2001.

      - Due to a lack of visibility into 2002 resulting from extremely
volatile economic conditions, the Company will not provide
2002 guidance until early next year.

NEW YORK, Nov 7 (Reuters) - Cash-strapped Metromedia Fiber
Network Inc.<MFNX.O> on Wednesday posted a third-quarter loss
that surpassed Wall Street estimates, widening from a year
earlier because of its acquisition of SiteSmith and costs
related to expansion of its network, but said it expects to
achieve a positive cash flow in early 2002.
The company said its loss widened to $242.1 million, or 39
cents a share, compared with a loss of $95.3 million, or 17
cents a share, a year-earlier. Wall Street analysts, on
average, had expected a loss of 33 cents a share, according to
      Thomson Financial/First Call.
Metromedia, which completed a $611 million financing
package in early October, said revenues rose 76 percent to
$91.5 million from $51.9 million a year-earlier and within the
revised guidance of $91 million to $93 million it had offered
      earlier.
Its earnings before interest, other income and expenses,
taxes, depreciation, amortization and non-cash deferred
compensation expense (EBITDA) improved to a loss of $35 million
for the quarter -- toward the top end of its guidance and
narrower than the year-earlier EBITDA loss of $37.6 million.
Metromedia, which builds high-speed fiber-optic networks in
metropolitan areas, also reaffirmed its outlook for
fourth-quarter revenues of $100 million to $103 million and
EBITDA loss of $3 million to $9 million, before costs
associated with its recent financing. However, it declined to
offer 2002 guidance due to volatile economic conditions.

In March 2000, VERITAS Software selected SiteSmith as its managed service provider at its third party co-location facility. MFN acquired SiteSmith in February 2001. Shortly after, VERITAS Software made the strategic decision to move its data center operations in-house and extended its business relationship with MFN.

Under the new agreement, MFN assists VERITAS Software in the deployment of its re-architected e-business environment in its new data center. MFN also provides ongoing managed services for the company`s external Web site through its Site Operations Platform (SOP).

MFN`s award-winning SOP is a comprehensive managed services solution designed to deliver a reliable, scalable, secure and high-performing Internet infrastructure for running mission-critical applications. The solution combines all of the infrastructure elements in creating and maintaining a world-class Internet presence, all at a fixed monthly fee.

"MFN delivers infrastructure managed services regardless of location," said Greg Valdez, vice president and chief information officer, VERITAS Software. "With MFN`s assistance, we are confident that our external Web site is high performing, secure and available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, freeing up our internal technical staff to focus on new projects. They work excellently as a member of the team."

"MFN is pleased that our relationship with VERITAS continues to grow," said Mark Spagnolo, president and chief operating officer of MFN. "This agreement demonstrates MFN`s commitment and ability to offer our superior managed services solution within customer-owned data centers, third-party facilities and MFN`s state-of-the-art data centers."

Kooperationen machen mich langsam stutzig.
