(BULLETIN BOARD: WWAT), developer of high-horsepower solar energy systems, announces the completion on July 22 of a $4,000,000 financing agreement with the hedge fund CAMOFI Master LDC, an affiliate of Centrecourt Asset Management, LLC, a New York based asset management firm. In addition to the private placement, the recapitalization includes $450,000 in exercised warrants, and reduction of long-term debt by $900,000 through stock conversions.

Financial Firm to Introduce Company`s Solar Systems Into China`s Water and Power Markets


PENNINGTON, N.J. - June 22, 2005 - WorldWater & Power Corporation (OTC BB:WWAT.OB - News), maker of high-horsepower solar energy systems, has been making preparations for introducing its solar powered systems to the expansive China market. In late May, WorldWater & Power exhibited at the Second China International Renewable Energy Equipment & Technology Exhibition and Conference and the China Beijing International High-tech Expo (CHITEC) in Beijing, making contact with several hundred visitors from Korea, Mongolia, and throughout China. The Company has now announced the signing of an Agreement with Xinhua Financial Network Limited (XFN), China`s premier financial services and media company, to represent WorldWater & Power in the Chinese water and energy markets.

Xinhua will introduce WorldWater & Power to federal and provincial governmental and private sector buyers for the sale of the Company`s AquaMax(tm) high volume water pumping systems and other solar products, it was announced jointly by Quentin T. Kelly, WorldWater`s Chairman and CEO, and Gordon Lau, Xinhua`s Chief Financial officer.

Douglas L. Washington, Vice President, Marketing and International Operations for WorldWater & Power, met with a number of Xinhua directors and with representatives of Xinhua PR Newswire to evaluate and establish strategy for WorldWater`s entry into China.

China has 1.3 billion people and one of the largest and most rapidly growing economies in the world. As a result of deteriorating air quality, the National People`s Congress Standing Committee passed a Renewable Energy Law, effective January 1, 2006, requiring that 10 percent of China`s electricity must be generated from renewable energy sources by 2020. WorldWater & Power Corp. Signs $1.8 Million Contract to Supply Solar Electric Power to California Tree Farm

WorldWater & Power Corporation, maker of high-horsepower solar energy systems, has signed a contract for $1.8 million to supply solar-generated electricity for a tree farm in California. The company`s proprietary solar AquaMax will drive a 200 hp water pump in addition to the system saving an estimated 70% of the Cocopah tree farm`s electrical bills, according to Quentin T. Kelly, WorldWater`s Chairman and CEO.

The owner of the farm said, "We`re happy to use environmental measures to do our work. With this advanced solar technology we will be conserving electricity and water and reducing our operations costs." Work on the project will begin immediately.

WorldWater & Power recently completed another AquaMax system driving a 200 hp pump for Seley Ranches, a citrus farm in California. The company also supplied all the solar equipment for a one megawatt solar installation at Cerro Coso College in Ridgecrest, CA, which the college estimates will supply 60% of its electricity and save the college over $300,000 a year. WorldWater & Power also recently signed a contract with the Idyllwild (CA) Water District to operate seven of the utility`s pumps by use of the AquaMax system. Water has always been mankind’s most precious resource — there are no substitutes. The struggle to control water resources has shaped human political and economic history. As the U.N. Committee on Economic, Cultural and Social Rights stated in 2002: “The human right to water is indispensable for leading a healthy life in human dignity. It is a prerequisite to the realization of all other human rights.”

In developed countries, WorldWater & Power Corp. has demonstrated the value of solar energy in providing water services. The energy crisis in California, which led to limited power availability for the state’s billion-dollar agriculture, winery and water utilities markets, presented an opportunity for WorldWater to provide solar-powered water-pumping systems (up to 450 kW to these markets).

More than 1 billion people lack access to clean water supplies and more than 2 billion lack access to basic sanitation. These shortages have significant health effects.

Yet another promising renewable technology is ocean thermal energy conversion (OTEC). The open-cycle version of this technology, which taps the temperature differences in the ocean to generate electricity, also produces large quantities of distilled water. In remote island locations, the water produced is likely to prove more valuable than the electricity.

Though organizations worldwide can do much to improve water security, they generally are applying inadequate resources to the problem. Renewable energy can provide a key ingredient needed to reduce poverty and support sustainable economic development. It is our responsibility, as renewable energy professionals and advocates, to help the world make full use of this widely available resource and facilitate a more affordable, soft path approach to the provision of water services.

Nicht nur die Tatsache, dass Wordwater im PPVX (Photovoltaik- Aktienindex) gelistet ist, dürfte die Aufmerksamkeit auf den Wert erhöhen – nach dem Einstieg einiger Top-Investoren und einzigartigen technologischen Alleinstellungsmerkmalen wird die Aktie zunehmend interessant. Worldwater konzentriert sich auf eines der Hauptprobleme der menschlichen Zivilisation: Der Versorgung mit Trinkwasser. Häufigste Schwierigkeit in vielen Regionen dieser Welt ist, die Energie zur Beförderung von Wasser bereitzustellen.

Genau hier setzt Worldwater an: Das Unternehmen produziert Solarsysteme, die Pumpen und Motoren antreiben. Zielmärkte sind neben den USA, wo die Produkte von Worldwater seit kurzem staatlich gefördert werden, vor allem China und die Philippinen. Besonders China dürfte für Worldwater ein wahrer Boommarkt werden . Aus Studien geht hervor, dass 66 % des jährlichen Chinesischen Wasserverbrauchs für Landwirtschaftliche Zwecke verwendet wird. 60-80 % dieses Wassers geht durch unzureichende Kanalsysteme und Verdunstung verloren.

Vor allem der Norden Chinas, droht in Zukunft regelrecht auszutrocknen – die nötigen Energiequellen zur Bewässerung fehlen komplett. Alleine China Fantasie reicht nicht aus um Aktien Kurs

Nicht nachhaltig? Der letzte deutliche Kursanstieg geschah im Zuge des Techno-Booms! Heute hat sich die Situation wohl etwas gewandelt! Der Ölpreis ist auf einem Höchststand und der kommt auch nicht mehr nachhaltig runter! Californien wird Solarenergie fördern - Schwarzenegger hat dies nicht auf Anhieb durchgebracht - aber das kommt schon noch! Worldwater hat ein super Management und eine hervorragende PR. Wenn die nur an kurzen Aktiengewinnen interessiert wären, hätte es schon öfters Ausschläge nach oben gegeben. Der Langzeitchart ist sehr stabil und die Kursentwicklung sehr nachhaltig.

Leute - im Gegensatz zum Tech-Boom machen die Solarunternehmen reale Gewinne! Und dass es bald kein Öl mehr gibt, ist auch ein Fact. Ihr seit alle nur neidisch, weil ihr nicht dabei seit. Tja - wenn man halt immer alles buchhalterisch und ohne Fantasie betrachtet? Wenn man nach den Sternen greift, muss man schon etwas visionär sein.

Zum erstem Mal in der Geschichte wird ein städtisches
Wasserverteilungssystem eingesetzt, dessen Finanzierung
mittels eines Kreditkartensytems (Smart Card)
bewerkstelligt wird. Das Kreditkartensystem dient der
Finanzierung der städtische Wasserproduktion und
verhindert Probleme beim Einsammeln der vereinnahmten
Erlöse. Das Ronda System benützt WorldWater’s AquaCard™
(Smart Card). Die Kreditkarten können direkt benutzt
werden, um Wasser an allen städtischen AquaMeter™
Solarpumpstationen zu kaufen. Das Projekt wurde durch
einen Handelskredit der philippinischen Nationalbank
(PNB) ermöglicht und benötigte keine speziellen
Subventionen oder Unterstützungsgelder .

funktioniert, wie eine in voraus bezahlte Telefonkarte.
Die AquaCard™ wird in das AquaMeter™ der Solarpumpstation
eingeführt. Die gewünschte Anzahl Liter Wasser fliesst
sodann heraus und ein entsprechender Betrag wird auf der
Kreditkarte abgezogen. Der Microchip auf der Karte
informiert über den Kontostand und wann die Karte von den
Bürgern auf der Kommunalbank wieder aufgeladen werden
sollte.

Die von der Kommunalbank eingezogenen Gelder, werden dem
Konto der lokalen Verwaltung gutgeschrieben, welche damit
die Kredite an die Nationalbank zurückbezahlt. Mit den
Krediten wurden zuvor die Systeme von WorldWater gekauft.
Die lokale Gemeinde kann einen Prozentsatz der
einbezahlten Gelder für weitere Infrastrukturprojekte
verwenden. WorldWater und die Gemeinde haben zusammen
einen Betriebs- und Unterhaltsservicevertrag, welcher
mindestens für die 10-jährige Kreditperiode gültig ist.

Das ist die Meinung des knallharten Fakten-Gurus notebook zur Solarenergie:

Soviel ich weiss, ist Solarenergie ein Parasit. Die Energiequelle ist absolut nicht zuverlässig, insbesondere beispielsweise in Deutschland. Auf dem heutigen Stand der Technik ist Solarenergie in Ländern, welche am Äquator liegen rentabel und meinetwegen vielleicht auch in Californien. Aber sicher nicht in Deutschland. Interessanterweise interessiert das keinen. M.E. braucht es eine völlig neue Technik. Das heisst, dass in ein paar Jahren alle Anlagen ersetzt werden müssen. Dann kommt hinzu, dass ich eh denke, dass Shell und BP das Rennen machen. Machen wir uns nichts vor - dass ist wie beim Internet-Boom. Allerdings konnte man beim Internet-Boom reich werden, wenn man früh dabei war. Sobald die grossen Zeitungen vom Solarboom sprechen, kann man noch ein Weilchen dabei bleiben, dann sollte man aber raus. (Meine Meinung)

wenn ich Deine Meinung teilen würde, dann hätte ich nie in Solar investiert.
Ich würde mein Geld nicht langfristig irgendwo reinstecken , wovon ich nicht überzeugt wäre.

Ich sehe das Ganze anders als Du:

Soviel ich weiss, ist Solarenergie ein Parasit.

Falsch, fossile & nukleare Energien sind Parasiten, sie schädigen die Umwelt, das Klima, bescheren Strahlenmüll für 100000 Jahre und sind auch hoch subventioniert.
Zudem werden wertvolle, erschöpfliche Ressourcen teils sinnlos verschwendet,
uns nachfolgende Generationen werden uns für diese hemmungslose Vergeudung hassen.

Die Energiequelle ist absolut nicht zuverlässig, insbesondere beispielsweise in Deutschland.

Falsch, die Sonne scheint auch bei uns reichlich, auch an wolkigen Tagen wird Strom produziert.
Die Sonne wird noch Milliarden von Jahren scheinen, Uran, Öl, Gas, Kohle werden immer knapper.

M.E. braucht es eine völlig neue Technik. Das heisst, dass in ein paar Jahren alle Anlagen ersetzt werden müssen.

Warum? Die Anlagen funktionieren doch auch bei uns. Sie müssen nur billiger werden,
konventionelle Energiequellen werden auf jeden Fall immer teurer werden.
Die jetzt anlaufende Massenproduktion von Solarprodukten wird erheblich zur Verbilligung beitragen, die Effektivität wird auch verbessert.

Machen wir uns nichts vor - dass ist wie beim Internet-Boom. Allerdings konnte man beim Internet-Boom reich werden, wenn man früh dabei war. Sobald die grossen Zeitungen vom Solarboom sprechen, kann man noch ein Weilchen dabei bleiben, dann sollte man aber raus.

Das "Argument" mit dem NM hört man schon seit über einem halben Jahr hier bei WO.
Der Solarboom ist doch schon längst da, die Zeitungen sprechen auch davon, Du könntest jetzt schon längst reich sein. Der Boom wird sich in näherer Zukunft wahrscheinlich durch die Siliziumknappheit etwas abschwächen.
Viele Solarunternehmen erwirtschaften übrigens reale Gewinne, das sind keine Hochstapler wie zu NM-Zeiten.

Du darfst natürlich auch nicht einfach einzelne Postings von mir raussuchen und die dann wiederlegen. Da müsstest du den Zusammenhang auch mitposten.
Mit Sicherheit ist der Solarboom keine Luftblase. Das ist absolut klar. Wir stehen vor einer Wende. Sehe das diesbezüglich gleich wie du.

Ich sage nur, dass beim momentanen Stand der Technik die Solaranlagen in Deutschland nicht im Stande wären, sich selber zu erneuern. Will heissen, die Errichtung der Solaranlagen verbraucht mehr Energie, als dass die Solaranlage produziert. Ich denke aber, dass es hier sicher noch technische Fortschritte geben wird. Bin aber im Moment der Meinung, dass Solarenergie vorallem in Ländern am Äquatoer Sinn macht. Natürlich auch in Californien. Dort scheint die Sonne intensiver und auch zuverlässiger.

Goal for Western US is 8 GW of Solar Electricity by 2015, Says Western Governors` Association Solar Task Force

(Washington, DC) - With a longer-term federal investment tax credit and state-based incentives, the western United States could install as much as eight gigawatts of solar electric generating capacity and 350 MW solar thermal equivalent by 2015, according to a new report produced for the Western Governors` Association.

" The Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) congratulates the WGA Solar Task Force on achieving a consensus set of recommendations to achieve 8 GW of solar power by 2015 ," said SEIA president Rhone Resch. " We applaud the consensus finding of the companies, utility executives, policymakers and advocates represented on the task force.

" A longer-term extension of the 30 percent federal investment tax credit would stimulate new US manufacturing jobs and investment, and enable the Western states to harness their abundant solar energy resources."

According to the report, the development of 8 GW of solar electricity – enough to power 4 million homes – would generate 32,500 new well-paying jobs in manufacturing, construction and installation.

Deployment on this scale would also bring down solar costs to a point competitive with power produced from fossil fuels, according to the report. The task force envisioned half of deployment coming from central concentrating solar power (CSP) plants and half coming from distributed photovoltaic (PV) generation.

" At a time when natural gas prices are skyrocketing and consumers are feeling the pinch from high energy bills, the WGA task force has provided a clean and cost-effective path forward: solar energy," said Resch.

Charge to the Solar Task Force

Document current solar capacity and estimate the current solar production costs given the existing Western resource base.
Estimate the cost and efficiency of concentrating solar power and photovoltaic systems and identify ways of increasing efficiency and lowering cost.
Estimate a cost curve for solar generation in the WGA region that would include at least 1000 new megawatts of concentrating solar power by 2015.
Estimate the location of the lowest cost solar generation given the generation costs and a rough estimate of transmission cost necessary to move the generation to load centers. (This information will become input to transmission modeling work.)
Identify risks associated with solar generation, such as the potential environmental impacts from increased solar power production and provide recommendations for mitigating these impacts (e.g., wildlife impacts, technology failure).

WorldWater & Power Corporation Signs $1.4 Million in Solar Energy Contracts

PENNINGTON, N.J., Sept. 20 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ --
WorldWater&Power Corp. (BULLETIN BOARD: WWAT), developer
of proprietary high-powered solar energy systems, today
announced that it has signed contracts totaling $1.4
million to build and install solar electric power systems
for two car washes in the Los Angeles area. Car washes
represent a new industry for the use of solar technology
for WorldWater. The photovoltaic (PV) systems are expected
to substantially reduce electrical usage costs for the
two facilities.

The contracts with the car wash chain are conditional upon
third party financing. Once the financing is realized,
construction is expected to begin immediately and will be
managed by Quantum Energy Group, the California
engineering, construction and project management firm
acquired by WorldWater&Power Corp. earlier this month.
Quantum Energy Group will supervise the installation of
the solar power systems, as well as the construction of
canopies to hold the PV panels.

"The car washes on which the WorldWater&Power solar energy
systems will be installed average between 5,200 and 5,300
car washes per month. Electricity costs for each of the
car washes typically run between $3,000 and $4,000 per
month, depending on the site and the month of the year,"
stated Quentin T. Kelly, Chairman and CEO of
WorldWater. "In addition to realizing energy cost savings ,
the owners will obtain Federal and State tax credits
(ITCs) and accelerated depreciation. The current Federal
ITC of 10% increases to 30% January 1, 2006."


WorldWater&Power Corp. anticipates the rebates from
Southern California Gas Company for the solar
installations will be realized during the fourth quarter
of 2005 and the first quarter of 2006.

Gasoline prices soaring past $3 and the deadly consequences of the interruption of electricity and other utilities for much of the Gulf Coast in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina have heightened Texans` interest in solar energy.


After all, Texas is blessed with plenty of sun throughout the year. Why not capture that sunlight with solar panels that convert it into electricity?

Graphic television images of sick, weak and emaciated New Orleans residents who had been stranded and without drinkable water, electricity and gas for several days being rescued by boat and helicopter have sent a compelling message to Americans: When the utility systems whose smooth operation is taken for granted suddenly don`t function, devastation on a massive scale is sure to follow.

Not only did Katrina disable the utility systems in Gulf Coast communities, it also interrupted the nation`s energy supply when it smashed into the massive web of drilling rigs, refineries, highways, electric generators, ships and pipelines along the New Orleans coast. The disruption triggered gasoline shortages hundreds of miles away.

The catastrophe prompted the country`s collective wisdom to question the prudence of dependence on large-scale infrastructure systems reliant on unstable and unsustainable sources of energy.

Area solar experts said they have experienced a slight increase in phone calls from consumers seeking basic information about home solar systems. They expressed hope that the inquiries are a sign that solar is here to stay.

"Since the hurricane, I`ve gotten a few more calls than usual from people wanting to know what it would take to make their existing home more energy-efficient. Solar is one way to do that," said Andrew McCalla, president of Meridian Energy Systems Inc. in Austin. "With a good solar panel system, a homeowner or business owner can erase the electrical requirements of a building. Most people who call are curious about what solar can do for their energy requirements and expenses."

Meridian in 2003 designed and installed the solar-power demonstration project at the Institute of Texan Cultures in downtown San Antonio. City Public Service invested $300,000 in the solar-panel display to show the efficiency of the renewable energy.

Retired banker Bill Sinkin, founder and chairman of Solar San Antonio Inc., said he`s confident local governmental entities will install solar energy systems at public buildings in an effort to save money and inspire residents to use alternative energy systems at their homes and businesses.

Already, the Bexar County Jail annex, which opened in 2001, is equipped with a solar-powered water-heating system. The solar system cost $500,000 but saves the county $45,000 annually in natural gas costs.

"Solar is free, clean, and it gives us a sense of freedom," Sinkin said. "It`s also good for economic development."

Though solar is a proven technology, it`s barely been tapped in the United States, compared with the full-throttle solar movements in Asia and Europe, where energy costs are exorbitant.

Prices for solar panels, primarily made in the United States, have escalated in countries with high demand for them, creating a worldwide shortage. The result is that U.S. consumers wanting to install solar systems in their homes are being placed on waiting lists of six months to a year.

McCalla said Meridian has a backlog of 14 houses in the Austin area waiting for solar panels ordered several months ago.

As prices for coal, natural gas and oil have skyrocketed over the past year, solar power has been getting serious investor attention.

This new interest has more than doubled the price of shares of Evergreen Solar, DayStar Technologies, Energy Conversion Devices and Spire , small domestic companies that manufacture equipment that turns solar power into electricity. The solar market is poised for even more growth in coming years.

Local experts said that although the increase in interest in recent weeks has been subtle, it`s an indication that people are overwhelmed by the soaring prices and supply squeezes in the wake of Katrina.

"We`re seeing the cost of utilities constantly going up," said architect Stephen Colley of Build San Antonio Green. "A solar system may cost more initially, but it pays off over time with lower utility costs."

Colley estimated that perhaps 1 percent of San Antonio homes are equipped with solar panels, adding that it represents a threefold growth in residential use of solar energy over the past four years.

"I think the number of solar homes will only increase every year," Colley said. "It`s the responsible, fuel-efficient thing to do."

PENNINGTON, N.J., Sept. 26, 2005 (PRIMEZONE) -- The U.S. Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) has awarded $360,000 in grant funds to WorldWater & Power Corp. (OTC BB:WWAT.OB - News) to support a pilot project for water supply in Sri Lanka. The project is designed to assess solar technology methods to provide safe, sustainable water supplies to people in six villages near the tsunami-ravaged southern coast of Sri Lanka.

Subject to satisfactory results of WorldWater`s ground water assessment study, WorldWater anticipates the award of the full contract of $1.1 million with the Ministry of Urban Development and Water Supply to pump and deliver water to 13,677 people in approximately 3,000 households in the six villages through use of its AquaMax(tm) solar water pumping systems.

Signatories to the WorldWater grant included U.S. Ambassador to Sri Lanka Jeffrey J. Lunstead, and Dr. P.B. Jayasundera, Secretary for the Ministry of Finance and Planning of the Government of Sri Lanka. The USTDA funding is one of several grants that will help support the efforts of the Government of Sri Lanka to rebuild and improve infrastructure in districts affected by the tsunami in December 2004.

The Honorable W. Piyasena, National Project Director of the Community Water Supply and Sanitation Project, and the Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Division of the Ministry of Urban Development and Water Supply, said, ``There is a need to identify alternative energy sources for pumping water in remote rural areas. Even in areas where electricity is available, delays in getting electricity connections and the high costs of such connections have resulted in problems. Diesel driven pumps are found to be unsatisfactory in rural areas due to frequent repair and maintenance requirements and also due to high fuel costs.`` The Ministry specifically requested that WorldWater & Power Corp. conduct the technical assistance for the project.

Ms. Marian Bassett of the U.S. Trade Development Agency stated, ``We are pleased to provide this assistance to the Government of Sri Lanka, and we hope that this grant will catalyze large scale adoption of these environmentally friendly, clean technologies to make a difference in the quality of life of the rural people of Sri Lanka.``

Dr. Anand Rangarajan, Executive Vice President of WorldWater and Power Corporation, said, ``This pilot project is intended to demonstrate how public and private sector partnerships could be forged to bring private sector investments to the critical area of rural water supply. High Cost of Energy, Rising Population, and Pollution Fuel Opportunities throughout China

China’s emergence as a global and economic force has opened up immense opportunities across a variety of industries as its population and consumption rates continue to surge. Many argue that the key to China’s growth stems from its demand for energy. With a GDP figure that has quadrupled in the last 20 years, energy consumption rates have nearly doubled according to Deloitte & Touche, China Services Group.

Dr. James P. Dorian, a Washington, D.C. based International Energy Economist specializing in Eurasian oil, gas, coal issues and renewable energy explains, “Since 2001, for every one percent increase in Chinese GDP, there is an even greater than one percent increase in energy consumption. Such an upward trend—or even a flat trend—has potentially dramatic implications for future energy consumption in the country. Clearly, rapid energy growth in China is leading to dramatic impacts throughout the world in terms of commodity markets and prices, and within China, the growing thirst for energy is creating a new sense of urgency and energy insecurity.”

With the rising Chinese consumption rates, economic growth and ongoing challenges faced in the quest for increased resources, opportunities have arisen for many industries, in particular renewable energy and water. As the nation balances the needs of the country with protection of its environment, the Chinese government has had to make significant adjustments and with these adjustments come new growth opportunities for renewable energy and water technologies.

Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency:

Contributing to China’s rising renewable energy focus are environmental issues arising from the country’s current reliance on fossil fuels, growing demand for resources as consumption rates and population size continue to increase and the rising priority of energy security. As a result, China’s pursuit of energy alternatives is gaining momentum. Efficiency alone is not however sufficient to offset or overcome rising energy consumption as Dr. Dorian points out. “In my opinion, while unit efficiencies may improve over time for energy-intensive goods, for example, with air conditioners, dramatic growth in the purchase and use of these goods will overwhelm most gains in efficiency. This does not mean that China should not aggressively pursue energy efficiency gains in industry and the overall economy—the country should—but rather, it is not realistic to believe that gains in efficiency can dramatically slow or even stop energy consumption growth rates.”

Renewable and alternative energy technology represent one avenue that China is pursuing in hopes of bridging this gap between supply and demand to protect economic growth, the environment and to reduce dependence on foreign energy sources.

The Chinese government is hoping to meet its goal of having 12% of its power generated from renewables by year 2020. In addition, the nation’s new renewable energy law, which becomes effective in January 2006, will require China`s electricity grid to purchase all the electricity generated by approved renewable energy facilities within its service area, to include generating sources such as solar, wind, geothermal, biomass etc. Initial government hesitations due to relatively high renewable energy costs compared to conventional energy sources, have been overshadowed by China’s current inability to meet growing energy needs.

China`s surging energy demand is a huge potential market for clean energy, and the Chinese government is making more and more commitments to clean tech, according to Clint Wilder, Contributing Editor of Clean Edge Inc., a San Francisco based research and consulting firm reporting on the clean technology industry. “Chinese leaders know that continued reliance on coal-fired plants, which currently provide some 75% of the nation`s electric power, will continue to have catastrophic environmental and public health effects. Seven of the world`s 10 most polluted cities are in China. On top of that, more than 6,000 coal miners in China were killed on the job last year,” states Wilder.

Renewable energy generation from technology such as solar and wind offer pivotal solutions for addressing China’s power issues for remote off-grid populations where cost and access issues have made it difficult to provide effective energy resources. Taking advantage of the growing opportunity for solar technology is Kyocera Corp. Jay Scovie, Corporate Communications Manager explains, "Kyocera`s goal is to manufacture solar energy products as closely as possible to the local market, which is why we opened a solar module manufacturing plant in Tianjin, China in November 2003. We anticipate long-term growth in China for two major reasons. The obvious environmental benefit of solar energy is actually the second reason. The first, from a purely practical standpoint, is that China`s wired infrastructure for delivering centrally-generated electricity is incomplete -- which makes the benefits of so-called `distributed` power, such as solar energy, extremely valuable."

In an effort to promote energy efficiency and the use of renewables the Ministry of Construction is placing considerable emphasis on the implementation of efficiency related technology into the construction of buildings en route to the establishment of their own ‘green’ building criteria. This movement will involve retrofitting existing buildings as well as the enforcement of higher efficiency standards in new structures. In fact, Qiu Baoxing, Vice Minister of Construction has discussed the view that China will experience a construction boom of green, energy-efficient buildings over the next 15 years and that by the year 2020 the country will have transformed all existing buildings into these energy efficient structures. According to Qiu, buildings constructed after 2005 will incorporate technology that could lead to savings of 65% per square meter over existing buildings.

With the Chinese movement towards energy efficient buildings and independent sources of power on the road to energy independence, environmental protection and increasing energy supplies, Building Integrated Photovoltaics (BIPV) presents tremendous opportunities for achieving such goals worldwide. BIPV is a form of solar technology that is directly incorporated into buildings or become elements of the structure of a building, often becoming the exterior weathering skin of a structure. BIPV systems produce electricity on-site, electricity that in turn can be used to help power the building itself.

“BIPV technologies address not only the growing need to produce clean renewable power on-site to mitigate rising energy costs and dependency on grid supplied power, but they also address the opportunity to offset the substantial costs associated with the building of new regional power generation facilities and distribution and transmission networks, and the environmental impacts associated with the continued use of fossil fuels,” stated Tom Djokovich, CEO of XsunX , Inc. “A recent study of the proposed Million Solar Roof plan for the state of California determined that the savings to the state could exceed $6 billion U.S. net of incentives through the installation of 3,000 Megawatts of solar capacity. Although 3,000 Megawatts and $6 billion dollars represent a substantial amount of solar energy and net savings, these numbers are dwarfed by the potential power production and cost savings developing countries such as China and India could realize as they employ the wide scale use of BIPV technologies to build distributed power networks,” concluded Mr. Djokovich.

Water Essentials:

As a developing country, China has experienced significant problems associated with water distribution, quality, and supply. Population increases, elevated pollution as a result of economic growth and energy consumption, and mass rural areas have made it difficult to establish adequate levels of clean water. Insufficient water not only threatens the nation as population rates increase and water supply decreases, but industrial and agricultural production is also impacted significantly.

In China, water used for agricultural purposes accounts for an estimated 66% of the country’s total annual water consumption, however poor agricultural irrigation systems have led to extreme water wastage levels whereby approximately 60-80% of the water used is lost through evaporation from irrigation systems and canals, according to the International Water Management Institute, making the need for water saving technology essential.

Contributing to the growing water problems is the fact that approximately 44% of China’s populace can be found in the Northern and North-Eastern provinces, but only approximately 14% of the water resources are found in these areas. China plans to relocate approximately 400,000 people to make way for a $60 billion network of canals to supply the dry north with water from the wet south. “These canals are going to move water hundreds of miles from the Yangtze to Beijing and other parts of the north. The project could take up to 50 years to build and that $60 billion dollar mark will more than likely go higher than this initial estimate,” states William Brennan, Managing Director & Senior Portfolio Manager at Boenning & Scattergood.

Addressing the dual needs for water and energy in China and around the world is WorldWater & Power Corporation , a solar engineering and water management company that sees the opportunity in these combined industries with key applications in areas such as China. Aggravating the water shortage problems faced by China are the high levels of water pollution, with more than 70 percent of China`s rivers and lakes estimated to have been polluted to a varying degree, emphasizing the need for water filtration and treatment technologies.

China’s challenges, while troubling, have led to considerable opportunities in the water industry that appear to be here for the long run. “China in particular has allocated approximately $242 million, an increase of 11%, for efforts to provide the entire Chinese population with access to clean water as quickly as possible. Separately, the Hunan and Guangdong provinces of China recently announced a plan to construct waste water treatment plants over the next two decades, with projects to divert water from the Yangtze river to drought stricken communities expected to cost approximately $1.6 billion over the next five years,” explains Brennan.

China’s movement towards a greater emphasis on renewable energy technologies and supply will also positively impact their need for quality water systems as significant amounts of water can be saved on a daily basis through the use of solar, wind and other renewable systems. With most of the worldwide electricity being generated using thermoelectric power plants that utilize nuclear or fossil fuels to heat water to form steam to power turbines; water is either lost to evaporation or returned in a highly heated state that is harmful and destructive to the environment it originally came from.

The Road Ahead:

Current opportunities in China are believed to expand, evolve and continue into the future. “Over the longer term, I would argue that no other country in the world will have as great an impact on the world’s energy industry than China—when looking across the spectrum at all energy resources, including coal, oil, gas, nuclear, as well as renewables, and considering both production and consumption,” states Dr. Dorian.

As the challenges of economic growth take its toll on the nation’s water supply leading to shortages, pollution, and a growing need for improved technology, the water industry faces considerable opportunities for years to come as the sector helps to address China’s needs.

Wassermangel in China


Im Süden Chinas hatte es monatelang nicht geregnet.

Dürren, Umweltverschmutzung und die rapide wachsende Wirtschaft haben in China zu dem größten Wassermangel weltweit geführt.

Im Durchschnitt stehe jedem Chinesen nur ein Viertel der Wassermenge des weltweiten Pro-Kopf-Wertes zur Verfügung, berichtete die Zeitung "China Daily" am Dienstag. Und es werde erwartet, dass es noch weniger werde. "China sieht sich mit einer Wasserkrise konfrontiert, die schlimmer und drängender ist, als in jedem anderen Land der Welt", sagte Vizebauminister Qiu Baoxing dem Blatt. "Wir müssen das Problem lösen, bevor es zu spät ist."

Umweltexperten zufolge sind viele Flüsse in China stark verschmutzt und in vielen Gebieten der südlichen Provinz Guangdong führte eine monatelange Trockenheit zu Wassermangel. Der Wasserversorgung in den chinesischen Städten gehen zudem 20 Prozent durch undichte Leitungen verloren.

Die Regierung will nun die Wasseraufbereitung verbessern. Bislang werden den Angaben zufolge weniger als die Hälfte des Abwassers geklärt und wieder der Trinkwasserversorgung zugeführt. In den kommenden fünf Jahren soll dieser Wert auf 60 bis 70 Prozent verbessert werden.
