Usage share is the percentage of users worldwide that are actually connecting to the Web through a particular ISP, as reported by StatMarket. Usage share is an important measurement of success because frequent use gives an ISP more opportunities to sell advertising and extend customer relationships. StatMarket`s usage share figures bode well for cable modem providers such as @Home and Road Runner because their customers account for a higher percentage of actual daily Internet use than one would expect based on their subscriber figures. For more details, see the Featured Statistic at StatMarket (www.statmarket.com).
Here are the usage share figures for Road Runner and @Home:
Cable Modem ISP Usage Share on 1/1/99 Usage Share on 4/19/00
