MP3.com and Djangos.com Partner to Re-Invent Retail Music Industry; Alliance Provides Consumers with Instant Online Access to Purchased CDs

      SAN DIEGO, June 14 /PRNewswire/ --
In an unprecedented move designed to give consumers instant global online access to music they have purchased, MP3.com (Nasdaq: MPPP - news) and Djangos.com today announced a strategic alliance. This partnership will allow customers who have purchased music from a Djangos retail store or the Djangos.com web site (www.djangos.com) to immediately hear that music online anywhere in the world through a co-branded music manager.

The combination of Djangos` proprietary real-time, Internet-based retail technology and MP3.com`s (www.mp3.com) Instant Listening Service is expected to rocket retail music sales for Djangos.com, a quality CD, DVD, VHS, and vintage vinyl retailer, while also creating significant sales traffic for the company.

``We believe that our partnership with Djangos.com will change the way the world purchases and listens to music,`` remarked MP3.com chairman and chief executive Michael Robertson. ``Djangos.com is an innovative music retailer who believes as we do that our alliance will catapult their retail CD sales while driving traffic to their online and physical locations. But by far the biggest winners in this deal are music fans, who will gain something they have never had before: instant global online access to music they have purchased through retail stores.``

By integrating MP3.com`s Instant Listening Service into Djangos.com`s proprietary retail Point of Sale technology, the two companies intend to provide consumers with the ability to walk into a Djangos.com retail store, buy a CD, and then immediately access that CD on the web via a co-branded music manager. MP3.com services will also be integrated into Internet kiosks at Djangos.com retail stores.

``Our partnership with MP3.com is definitely a win-win proposition for both companies, but more importantly it provides a revolutionary new business model that will be of great benefit to music fans everywhere,`` said Steve Wood, chairman and chief executive officer of Djangos.com. ``The integration of Internet technology and traditional retailing has always been the guiding strategy of Djangos.com, and the integration of MP3.com`s Instant Listening technology into our Point of Sale software will enable digital music access from the cash register instantly to the web.``

As part of the strategic relationship, MP3.com has also named Djangos.com as its exclusive ``used music partner`` for artist searches on MP3.com. This agreement will give MP3.com users access to an extensive inventory of used music through Djangos.com. Djangos.com will facilitate online used music searches and fulfill orders for MP3.com customers from its retail locations, and its Portland, Ore.-based distribution warehouse.

The integration of MP3.com Instant Listening Service into Djangos.com`s retail and Internet technology will be demonstrated at the MP3 Summit 2000 to be held in San Diego June 20-21. To register for the upcoming Summit, visit www.mp3.com/summit.

Djangos.com joins over 20 MSP Partners who are expanding MP3.com`s strategy for delivering online digital music to listeners anytime and anywhere. Device manufacturers, technologists and other companies interested in integrating MSP products and services can contact partnersmsp@mp3.com for more information.

      Freddy
