Pacific Internet and Hitachi Data Systems Partner to Deliver Internet Backup Service

Singapore, (Wednesday, November 28, 2001) - Pacific Internet (NASDAQ: PCNTF), Asia`s leading Internet service provider has formed a strategic partnership with Hitachi Data Systems, a world leader in data storage technology to jointly launch an Internet Backup Service (IBS) (Please refer to Appendix). The service launched today is aimed at delivering value-added data storage services for all companies particularly the small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and small offices home offices (SOHO) in Singapore.

One of the greatest challenges for companies is finding a way to safely and cost-effectively store valuable corporate data and keep it secure. Essentially, this means that companies will need to adopt a sound data protection policy in order to retain and protect proprietary information from being lost. In addition, this will need to be quickly accessible and retrievable to ensure business continuity.
IBS is a complete client/server software solution that utilizes fully encrypted and password protected backup technology. Data is encrypted using a 112-bit private encryption key and compressed before transmission over the Internet. The data is also stored encrypted to ensure the highest levels of security. This service is a simpler, quicker and less expensive solution for companies to backup and restore data in the event of hacking, virus attacks, hard drive failures or PC thefts.

Mr David Lunn, Hitachi Data Systems`s Director of Business Development for Asia South, said: "Hitachi Data Systems has always been at the forefront in storage technology and we are very excited to be collaborating with Pacific Internet, a company which believes in offering its customers the best Internet storage solutions available. In these days of PC vulnerability, data backup has become a necessity whether you are a home or corporate user. IBS is developed to offer a convenient and cost effective alternative to users seeking to address their storage needs. "
Mr Sui Wee Chong, Director of the Corporate Business Group of Pacific Internet Singapore, said: "Businesses looking to outsource this function will want to work with reliable providers who have an established reputation in the market and this is the value proposition that PacNet and Hitachi can offer to these customers. This strategic partnership enables both companies to leverage on each other`s strengths; with Hitachi`s track record in data storage technology and PacNet`s expertise in providing Internet service, customers can look forward to a quality solution scalable to suit their needs. "

To deliver the highest quality Internet data backup service, IBS is powered by two leading technologies, Connected TLM, for the backup and restore software, and the Hitachi RAID disk array technology; co-located in Pacific Internet`s state-of-the-art Internet Data Centre. Customers can be assured of reliable data availability and secure data storage as IBS is backed by Pacific Internet`s resilient network architecture. Pacific Internet has been offering data hosting services since 1995, making it one of the most experienced operators in the region.

Mr Ong Teck Guan, Pacific Internet`s Managing Director for Singapore said, "With the rising demand for broadband services and the increasing concern for data security and availability, Pacific Internet can now provide a safe, secure computing environment coupled with high speed Internet access with the launch of the Internet Backup Service. Pacific Internet is currently assessing other enhanced features that can be incorporated with this service as well."

Zeitung: AOL will sich an Satyam Infoway beteiligen
Neu Delhi (vwd) - Die AOL Time Warner Inc, Dulles, will sich an der indischen Satyam Infoway Ltd beteiligen.

      Satyam to sell Sify stake
THE much-awaited sale of stake by Satyam Computers in its Internet subsidiary Satyam Infoway appears to be on the cards. The market talk is that Satyam Computers is expected to sell its entire 52 per cent stake at $1 per share to an international company having presence in Internet business. On back of the expectation, Satyam Infoway ADR is already witnessing increased activity on the Nasdaq. The ADR has increased from around $1 on November 13 to $ 2.788 on November 19. In addition, the volumes too have seen sharp rise. At the BSE, Satyam Computers closed 2.94 per cent higher at Rs 198.60. - Virendra Verma

      Naja 1 US$ für 1 Satyam share

      92,8 Mio Aktien mal 1US$ = Marktwert 92,8 Mio US$

      92,8 MIO : 40 Mio (Umsatz 2001) = 2,3 (KUV)

Also dann doch lieber "billig" an AOL verkaufen.

      Fazit: Es bleibt spannend

SINGAPORE--The Republic`s IT services revenue is expected to grow 12.7 percent to US$2 billion this year, despite the economic slowdown and global uncertainty arising from the September 11 attacks.

By 2005, that figure is projected to rise to US$3.6 billion, said market research firm Gartner Dataquest.

"Our local research shows that IT management services continue to do well despite sluggish economies," said Rolf Jester, Gartner Asia Pacific research director (IT Services).

"From late 2002, we expect networking, security and telecommunications technology-related services as well as e-business initiatives to be strong drivers of demand," Jester said.

This expectation is in line with overall growth in the Asia Pacific IT services market. The latter is forecast to outpace other regions "significantly, with a growth rate double the world average, and nearly three times that of North America," observed Jacqueline Heng, Gartner Dataquest Asia Pacific senior analyst for IT services.

Within the IT services industry, the development and integration segment--where Singapore firms spent US$566 million--should continue to dominate. In 2005, local companies are expected to spend at least US$1 billion, Gartner said in a statement.

The hardest hit sector is the consulting business, which is expected to lag behind the overall economy by three quarters. However, some bright spots for this market include security, business continuity planning, networking and e-business consulting.

Meanwhile, the strongest growing sector will be the business process and transaction management (BPTM) services sector, as companies turn to external suppliers and focus more on core business competencies.

"So far, the overall response (to the slower economy and war against terrorism) has been to avoid risks and delayed investment decisions. If senior executives can reasonably predict how the economy and security situation will play out, they could begin buying IT services again," said Jester.

"In the meantime, IT services vendors must rely on their `life preserver` offerings such as payment processing, applications and data center outsourcing, product support services, and security and disaster recovery," he added.
