Schaut euch mal TVX heute in Toronto und New York an.
9 Millionen Stücke in Toronto, 3 Millionen in New York.
Januar in Yahoo Finance entnehmen
kann und normandy gehört ja bekanntlich mittlerweile
Newmont.

Toronto miner waits for Greece
Ruling on TVX mine expansion delayed a week

ATHENS — A Toronto-based gold mining company is "cautiously optimistic" it will be allowed to expand its mining operations in Greece, although the government has delayed the decision by a week.
TVX Hellas, a division of TVX Gold Inc., one of Greece`s largest foreign investors, says its future in the country hinges on permission to expand its base metals operation in northern Greece.
The company`s original plans, which included opening a gold processing plant at Olympias, about 65 kilometres east of Thessaloniki, have been plagued by permit delays and local opposition since 1995, when TVX bought the former state-run Kassandra mine complex.
The company says it has invested more than $250 million in the Olympias project. TVX Hellas has also applied for a permit to extend its base metals mine under the village of Stratoniki, near Olympias.
"Without the permit, we`ve got no business to be here," said TVX Hellas chief executive John Raisbeck. "The fact of the matter is that without that permit we just do not have a future. That`s the reality of it."
The development ministry has put off until Feb. 15 the decision that was originally expected yesterday, saying officials will visit the mining operation and meet with local residents.
"I am cautiously optimistic that we are going to get a decision in our favour next Friday. I must say I thought it would happen today, but it hasn`t," Raisbeck said. "We understand the position of the government."
Stratoniki residents` agreement to the mine being extended is important because persistent and violent local opposition to the gold plant stalled the project in the first place.
"Our immediate reaction was one of disappointment, but on the other hand we much prefer to have a permit that is fully supported by all the stakeholders," Raisbeck said.
The company is anxious to expand the base metals mine and "if this meeting next week ... is going to give us a higher degree of support in the area, then it`s obviously beneficial to everybody," he added.
A group of Greek university professors has issued a report that found the mining method proposed by TVX "is the safest possible," the ministry said.
"TVX fully concurs with the government`s position that, before a final decision is made, further discussions should take place to inform interested parties of the safety of the proposed mining method," chief executive Sean Harvey said in a release from Toronto.
Although gold mining and processing at Olympias was TVX`s main reason for investing in Greece, that project looks unlikely to go ahead.
Ciao, and happy weekend

Greece says TVX Gold subsidiary can resume mining
(UPDATE: Updates with TVX chief executive quotes, details)
By Karolos Grohmann
ATHENS, February 15 (Reuters) - Greece on Friday let a subsidiary of Canada`s TVX Gold (Toronto:TVX.TO - news) (NYSE:TVX - news) resume mining near its northern Greek base metal plant, ending a threatened withdrawal by one of the country`s biggest investors.

The subsidiary, TVX Hellas, had said it would quit the country if it was not given the go-ahead to drill beneath the nearby village of Stratoniki, held up by local protests.
A statement from the Development Ministry said the government had decided to let the company continue.
It set certain conditions to be observed during drilling. These included monitoring of subsidence and reduced noise levels and vibrations during blasting.
TVX, which has already pumped $250 million into various Greek projects and may add an additional $500 million for others, said the ruling meant it would stay.
``This is a turning point for us. It enables us to consolidate our presence in Greece and allows us to form a longer view ``, TVX Hellas Chief John Raisbeck told Reuters.
He said the government`s decision showed ``a whole new wave of support for mining in this country.``
``We had said before that we had no possibility to develop our operations if there was no agreement on this issue,`` Raisbeck said.
Mining under the village had hung in the balance for more than two months as local residents said they feared for their homes, fears dismissed by TVX Hellas which said it was taking every necessary precaution.
Mining inspectors briefly halted TVX Hellas` operations in Stratoniki in December but the ministry had issued a temporary permit for the silver-lead-zinc mine and mill located at Stratoni to continue work.
TVX Hellas had said at the time its immediate future lay underneath the village as the company seeked to sustain production volumes.
STRUGGLE TO MINE
The company, which has battled with local officials over permits since it acquired the mine in 1995, is also wrangling with authorities over the use of its Olympias base metal mine which it wants to turn into a gold producer.
Stiff opposition from environmental groups and local citizens have sent the Olympias case to the country`s supreme court which has yet to announce a decision.
Raisbeck said the ruling could allow a different approach concerning the gold mine.
``This decision enables us to revisit the Olympias project,`` he said.
The Stratoni base metal mine, near Stratoniki, produced about 2.3 million ounces of silver, 38,000 tonnes of zinc and 30,000 tonnes of lead in 2001.
TVX Hellas, employing 500 people, doubled its annual milling rate last year to 360,000 tonnes. It has said this year`s figure will top 400,000 tonnes.

Erst Durban, dann Ashanti, jetzt TVX.
Es kann also weiter aufwärts gehen.
