Awards Bodies Recognize Plumtree for Superior Technology, Successful Customer Deployments
SAN FRANCISCO, July 30 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Corporate portal market-leader Plumtree Software (Nasdaq: PLUM - News) today announced that IDC ranked Plumtree #1 in portal software market-share, that Forrester Research and Butler Group ranked Plumtree #1 among prospective portal software buyers, and that AMR Research ranked Plumtree #1 overall based on Plumtree`s products and customers. Plumtree was also identified as a leader in Gartner`s May 2002 Magic Quadrant evaluation of portal software vendors.

      (Photo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20000405/SFW002 )
Plumtree Captures Largest Portal Market Share

Plumtree is the portal software market share leader based on software license and maintenance revenue in 2001, according to leading information technology research firm IDC. IDC identifies Plumtree`s sales execution, marketing efforts, successful and highly visible customer wins, and product enhancements based on customer requirements as contributors to its market share growth. The public can access the findings in IDC document #27287, Worldwide Enterprise Information Portal Software Forecast and Analysis, 2001-2006.

"Plumtree`s ability to address enterprise-wide portal requirements led to its impressive revenue growth throughout 2001 and helped the company capture the leading share position in the portal software market," said Brian McDonough, Research Manager of Knowledge and Content Management Software research at IDC. "Plumtree`s market share leadership serves as evidence that the portal market can be led by an independent software vendor with an offering that brings together a wide variety of applications and information running on different platforms throughout an organization."

According to research published in June 2002 from Garter Dataquest, Plumtree has captured an unsurpassed 7% of horizontal portal software product market share. Plumtree was also placed in the leader section of Gartner`s Magic Quadrant evaluation of portal software vendors, published in May 2002*.

Plumtree Platform Earns Highest Average Score in Evaluation of 16 Portal

      Products

AMR Research evaluated 16 portal framework products based on functionality, technology, quality of customer experience, cost of ownership and financial viability. According to the AMR Research Report, The Portal Framework: The New Battle for the Enterprise Desktop, March, 2002, "Overall, Plumtree earned the highest average score, and also scored first in quality of customer experience, which was measured by customer evaluations of functionality, performance, ease of use and customer service responsiveness."

      Plumtree Remains Customers` First Choice

For the third consecutive year, Plumtree was identified by European analyst firm Butler Group as the vendor most often considered for portal implementations according to companies evaluating portal technology. In response to the question: "Which of the following vendor`s products have you considered (or would you consider) for a portal implementation?" nearly 15% of respondents chose Plumtree. All other vendors were selected by fewer than 10% of the respondents. The survey results are based on the responses of organizations attending the firm`s Corporate Portal event, held in June 2002.

In a March 2002 Technographics Research report published by Forrester Research, Plumtree is identified as the portal vendor most preferred in a survey of nearly 900 customers. In response to the question: "From which vendors will your company consider purchasing enterprise portals?" 21% of customers chose Plumtree, ahead of other portal vendors that were selected by 15% of customers.

List of Industry Awards for Plumtree Grows

Plumtree and its customers also won several industry awards recognizing the strength of the company`s technology and the quality of its customer deployments. Plumtree Delivers New Resources for Customers Deploying Extranet Portals
White Paper and Customer Web Seminars Present Portal Strategies for Improving Customer and Partner Service at Lower Costs
SAN FRANCISCO, Aug. 1 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Corporate portal market-leader Plumtree Software (Nasdaq: PLUM - News) today released a white paper documenting recommended network security configurations for extranet portals and announced a Web seminar series in which customers will discuss and demonstrate their Plumtree-powered extranet portals. More than 60 Plumtree customers are currently using the Plumtree Corporate Portal to offer better service to customers and partners at lower cost. The public can visit 25 Plumtree-powered extranet portals, download the white paper, read case studies, and register for the Web seminars at www.plumtree.com/extranets.

      (Photo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20000405/SFW002 )
White Paper Details Security Requirements for Extranet Portals

A new white paper entitled, "Deploying the Plumtree Corporate Portal 4.5WS to the Extranet," highlights the security features and recommended network configuration for deploying the Plumtree Corporate Portal as an extranet portal. The white paper will also be available to Plumtree customers as a chapter in Plumtree`s Deployment Guide.

Plumtree develops all of its software products to support extranet deployment. Key features include:

Security: To provide the highest level of security for extranet portal deployments, Plumtree offers these features:

-- Gateway: Plumtree securely brokers internal content for distribution
to external audiences, leaving all the systems integrated in the portal
      safely protected behind network firewalls;
-- Object-level security: Plumtree provides granular control over every
portal object, allowing different audiences to access or administer
      different resources;
-- Auditing: Plumtree allows customers to monitor changes to all portal
      objects, ensuring accountability for the security of the entire system;
-- Separation of Web server and application server: Plumtree supports
configurations that separate the Web server from the application
server, ensuring that Internet audiences never directly connect to
      software that accesses internal systems;
-- Completely SSL-enabled: Plumtree supports Secure Socket Layer (SSL)
encryption for both user connections to the portal, and the portal`s
connections to Web services, optimizing these connections for high
      performance;
-- Single sign-on integration: Plumtree offers comprehensive integration
with both proxy-based authentication systems such as IBM Tivoli as well
as token-based systems such as Netegrity, Oblix and RSA Security.

Integration: Plumtree integrates services from a wide range of enterprise applications such as SAP R/3 and Documentum, as well as content stored throughout various file systems and repositories. Rather than integrating application services via frames, which typically requires opening systems on the network to browsers on the Internet, Plumtree integrates electronic resources via server-side Web services, which are more reliable and secure for extranet portals. For content hosted on internal networks, Plumtree offer high-performance gateways that can broker that content securely to audiences on the Internet.

Reliability: Plumtree`s Web Services Architecture integrates applications, content, search and users via Web services running on different platforms. Plumtree`s Parallel Portal Engine integrates Web services in parallel, opening multiple connections simultaneously, which ensures better performance.

Collaboration: The Plumtree Collaboration Server allows organizations to collaborate on documents, schedule projects and exchange ideas with their customers and partners.

Personalization: A customizable user interface gives Plumtree customers the flexibility to brand separate communities for different audiences or different customers.

Federation: The Plumtree Corporate Portal can be deployed as a federation of portals, sharing services and content between portals, allowing organizations to broker resources between portal instances in cases where the portal is deployed separately for intranet and extranet use.

Six Customers Share Extranet Portal and Collaboration Best Practices

In a new Web seminar series, Plumtree customers will demonstrate their portals and discuss the benefits of creating workspaces shared by clients, partners and project teams. Dates, customers and topics in the series include:

      Ames Department Stores: August 13

"Effectively Integrating Instant Messaging into the Portal"

Ames will present on the advantages of integrating commercial instant messaging products into the portal.

Halliburton will present on its strategy for sharing personalized product information and SAP account data with clients via an extranet portal.

      Hy-Vee: August 27

"Designing an Employee Portal and Partner Extranet for a Retail Chain"

      Employees and Clients"

"My.NBII.Gov: Enabling Biodiversity Collaboration across National and

      Regional Networks"

Ministry of Education, Luxembourg: September 17

"Connecting the World of Education: E-Learning and Knowledge Management

      in a National Portal"

Luxembourg`s Ministry of Education will present on using a portal to create a multi-lingual educational workspace for 100,000 teachers, students, parents and staff nationally.

"Rather than Web-enabling each customer-facing application separately, our customers are deploying the Plumtree Corporate Portal to offer customers one experience for interacting with every part of the business," said Plumtree CEO John Kunze. "Every initiative for serving customers electronically can be delivered through the portal at lower cost and greater impact. In fact, organizations can often use the same portal platform that assembles resources for employees to reach partners and customers, increasing the return on their investment."

      Extranet Portal Customers Document ROI

Plumtree customers Ketchum and California Casualty, along with third-party analyst firms, have documented return-on-investment (ROI) from their extranet portal deployments. Ketchum could create $18 million in new revenue over four years by delivering account resources to and collaborating with clients online, while California Casualty could save 49% ROI in increased sales and customer self-service over four years. The Enterprise Class Gadget Suite and Framework for SAP is designed to make employees more productive and maximize the return on SAP investments for customers by empowering employees with self-service without training or extensive front-end development efforts. Plumtree has also developed Gadget Suites for SAP Financials and SAP Sales and Distribution, creating comprehensive SAP integration. SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 5 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Plumtree Software, Inc. (Nasdaq: PLUM - News) today announced that it has decided not to pursue discussions with the Sutter Opportunity Fund 2, LLC ("Sutter") regarding Sutter`s recent unsolicited offer to acquire all the outstanding shares of Plumtree in exchange for a per share price of $2.00 cash and $3.00 in the form of an 8% promissory note maturing in five years. According to the Sutter offer, the promissory notes would be secured only by the assets of Plumtree including a `good faith deposit` by Sutter of $1 million dollars.
      (Photo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20000405/SFW002 )
"Plumtree`s Board of Directors and senior management have analyzed the nature and terms of the offer and after due consideration have determined that at this time discussions with Sutter Capital Management would not be beneficial to Plumtree or its shareholders," said Plumtree CEO John Kunze.

Mr. Kunze received an unsolicited, non-binding conditional Letter of Intent from Sutter Capital Management on September 3, 2002 containing an expiry date of September 10, 2002. Sutter Capital Management then unilaterally issued a press release the next morning announcing that they had sent the Letter of Intent to Plumtree. Prior to receiving the letter, Plumtree had no contact with Sutter Capital Management or the Sutter Opportunity Fund 2, LLC regarding the offer.

      Sutter Responds to Plumtree Decision
Thursday September 5, 4:48 pm ET

SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Sutter Capital Management, LLC ("Sutter") today responded to Plumtree Software`s decision to reject its offer to acquire Plumtree (Nasdaq: PLUM - News) for $5.00 per share. Robert Dixon, President of Sutter, stated, "We are disappointed that Plumtree has chosen not to even discuss the offer with us, and we hope that Plumtree`s officers and directors will take a more proactive approach to maximizing shareholder value in the future. Plumtree`s stock has dropped by over 65% in the three months since its IPO, and it appears management has done nothing to address these losses suffered by shareholders, including refusing to discuss an offer to acquire the company at an 80% premium to its current market price. We believe our offer was a very attractive one for Plumtree`s shareholders and the market`s response to our offer yesterday, as well as its response to Plumtree`s decision today, seems to support our view."

Dixon continued, "If Plumtree is dedicated to remaining an independent public company, we urge its management to consider some alternate means of increasing shareholder value. For example, Plumtree could make a tender offer for its shares at an above-market price, say $4.00. At a minimum, this action would: (1) create a better exit strategy for those who want to sell; (2) be accretive to earnings per share for those shareholders who decide to remain; and (3) signal to the market that management believes in the company`s future. Certainly, if $5.00 per share is an inadequate price at which to sell the company, then buying shares back at $4.00 must be attractive."

William Knuff, Director of Sutter, added, "Clearly, Plumtree chose a bad time to become a public company. The IPO market is still suffering from the residual effects of the deflated tech bubble. To compound matters, the broader market suffers from a corporate credibility problem. So far, management`s decision to go public has only benefited Plumtree`s private investors, and has done so entirely at the expense of public shareholders and employees holding out-of-the-money options. The company now trades near its cash value per share, yet shows strong growth potential, positive earnings and appears undervalued to us by almost any metric. We hope Plumtree`s management will demonstrate to the market that it holds the same view."

      Plumtree Launches Plumtree Content Server
Key Foundation Service Enriches Enterprise Web with High-Quality Content
Monday October 14, 9:00 am ET

SAN DIEGO, Plumtree Odyssey, Oct. 14 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Enterprise Web technology leader Plumtree Software (Nasdaq: PLUM - News) today announced Plumtree Content Server 4.0, the industry`s premier portal content management system. As an engine for creating and publishing Web content within the portal, Content Server allows everyone in the business to contribute information to the portal, and every line-of-business to manage the branding and publication of that content to portal pages and related Web sites. As a foundation service for the Enterprise Web, Content Server brings intranet, extranet and Internet sites into the portal`s global framework for security, navigation and knowledge management. Customers benefit from a content-rich Enterprise Web with lower production costs and less intranet sprawl.
      (Photo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20000405/SFW002 )
Content Server is the most recent product in Plumtree`s new line of servers, which also includes Collaboration Server, Studio Server, Search Server and Single Sign-On Server, Powered by Oblix. Plumtree launched this product line today as part of its new Enterprise Web strategy, to provide a common foundation for creating rich Web applications within the portal at low cost. To download a white paper describing the Enterprise Web or to register for an online demonstration of Plumtree Content Server, visit www.plumtree.com.

Content Server Completes Plumtree`s Content Management Offering

Plumtree`s solution has always offered customers strong content management capabilities for content access, aggregation with Crawler Web Services, classification through filters, property maps and the document directory, and personalization. The addition of Content Server to Plumtree`s solution completes this offering to include content management capabilities.

"Plumtree Content Server is fundamental to our vision of the Enterprise Web," said Plumtree CEO John Kunze. "Without a content management system, customers` Web strategies may result in an empty portal, to which only a handful of Web producers can contribute. Content Server empowers the portal`s vast business audiences to submit knowledge-base articles, route employee reviews to managers, publish sales performance metrics, or enter win-loss reports. Coupled with Plumtree`s unchallenged leadership in knowledge management, Content Server allows customers to manage all the information created throughout the Enterprise Web, and to find that information easily once it has been published."

Content Server Customers Enrich Portal Experience

Based on the 2001 acquisition of Hablador, and integrated with the Plumtree Corporate Portal over the past year, the technology in Plumtree Content Server 4.0 has been battle-tested at dozens of customer sites. Plumtree tested Content Server 4.0 with Starbucks, NAV CANADA, The United States Geological Survey (USGS) and the Ministry of Education, Luxembourg.

"The USGS National Biological Information Infrastructure (NBII) Program has research teams distributed throughout the country that use Plumtree to manage and collaborate on new research proposals related to biological informatics," said Mike Frame, USGS NBII Research & Technology director. "Based on initial testing of the Plumtree Content Server, we think it will automate the proposal submission process, reducing redundancies, providing for improved tracking, and improving our overall productivity. Its version control features will ensure that teams are working from the most up-to-date version of the proposal, and workflow will route the proposals throughout the team for collaboration and approval. When a team has finalized a proposal, Content Server will publish the final version to the portal, where it can be accessed throughout the organization and eventually the general public."

"A recent evaluation of the Plumtree Content Server has allowed us to see the potential benefits of this product in assisting us in managing the content available within our organization. Our development efforts are currently focused on publishing time-sensitive press releases, pilot information, Air Traffic flow information and other aeronautical information to our customer portal. Content Server could help us streamline this process and reduce the publishing time," said Patrick Walsh, Manager Planning and Project Management at NAV CANADA. "Additionally, by re-using content across the organization we will be ensuring that employees and customers will have the most up-to-date information as soon as it is available."

Content Server Manages Portal Content Lifecycle

Content Server offers features designed to support large organizations` content management needs:

-- Templates: for capturing information from authors as well as for
      presenting the resulting Web pages.
-- Workflow: for routing submitted content through the appropriate
      business process to be approved.
-- Library Services: for ensuring that teams do not duplicate one
another`s work, with features such as rollback and version control.
-- Publishing: for publishing content as components within a portal page,
as whole Web pages in the portal`s document directory, or in intranet,
      extranet or Internet sites.
-- Repository: for storing all the content created in the Enterprise Web
as a set of components that can be easily edited or re-used in other
      pages.

Content Server publishes content to the portal organized in Plumtree`s enterprise-wide document directory or in community directories maintained for different work-groups or business units. Content Server can also publish content as Gadget Web Services, components embedded within a portal page, and a wide range of administration tools are surfaced in the portal as Gadget Web Services. Content Server relies on the portal`s security scheme, and indexes its content using Plumtree Search.

Content Server is expected to be generally available in November 2002.

      Plumtree Announces Enterprise Web Strategy
Plumtree Offers New Line of Server Products, Deeper Partner Commitment; Major Customers Support New Vision
Monday October 14, 9:01 am ET

SAN DIEGO, Plumtree Odyssey, Oct. 14 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Enterprise Web technology leader Plumtree Software (Nasdaq: PLUM - News) today announced a new company strategy to offer customers an open environment for creating Web applications that span rival platforms. This environment, known as the Enterprise Web, offers business units throughout an organization a foundation of technologies on which every application can draw, and creates a common user experience for systems and people across the enterprise to work together.
      (Photo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20000405/SFW002 )
As part of this strategy, Plumtree is complementing its portal platform with a new line of server products for content management, collaboration, identity management, search and business process automation, and is announcing an integration plan with Cap Gemini Ernst & Young, Documentum and Oblix. Together, these partners have produced a joint white paper, which also describes reference implementations of the Enterprise Web at Alcoa, GlaxoSmithKline, Pratt & Whitney and Procter & Gamble customer sites. The paper is available at www.plumtree.com and partner sites. As part of this strategy, Plumtree also today launched a new content management product, Plumtree Content Server 4.0, a new version of Plumtree Collaboration Server, 2.0, and a re-seller agreement with Oblix to re-sell Oblix NetPoint.

"Chief information officers are thinking about their entire Web strategy, not just a portal," said Plumtree CEO John Kunze. "The Enterprise Web is a vision of how portal, content management, collaboration, identity management and search technology work together as a common foundation for every Web application in the business. This vision is the first fundamental expansion of Plumtree`s charter since Plumtree created the corporate portal market."

"There`s a simple difference between this approach and that of the platform vendors," Kunze continued, "The Enterprise Web rejects the premise that a business must re-build its entire infrastructure around one application server. That premise is a relic of the client-server model, and is impractical for an organization with many business units. We instead embrace the openness of the Web as an enterprise-wide environment that can draw on resources from different application servers across the business."

      Customers Implementing the Enterprise Web

Plumtree customers with enterprise-wide portal deployments support this vision of the Enterprise Web, and provide reference implementations in Plumtree`s white paper.

-- Alcoa is pursuing an Enterprise Web strategy to create consistent
processes and infrastructure for sharing knowledge on a global scale.
-- GlaxoSmithKline has launched the Plumtree Corporate Portal to more than
100,000 employees on five continents, as part of an Enterprise Web to
support the creation of rich user experiences within the portal that
span different systems and business units.
-- Pratt & Whitney is pursuing an Enterprise Web strategy to deliver new
Web applications for everything from engine maintenance and repair to
claims processing to parts sourcing on a range of different commercial
      and proprietary platforms.
-- Procter & Gamble is implementing Plumtree as part of an Enterprise Web
strategy to control intranet growth and create a common foundation for
      collaboration and application integration.

      The Enterprise Web Architecture

Built on the existing applications and application servers that run a business, the Enterprise Web consists of four elements:

-- Integration Products: Web services that combine applications and
information from traditional systems such as SAP and Siebel.
-- Foundation Services: the core services typically needed to build Web
applications, such as search and identity management.
-- Portal Software: the working environment for creating user experiences
that incorporate many systems and services.
-- Composite Applications: user experiences for a specific audience and
function, such as employee services or customer support.

The entire architecture is Web services-based, allowing these elements to run on different application servers.

Server Products Offer Foundation Services for Enterprise Web

Based on customer surveys, Plumtree has found that the foundation services most often used to build Web applications within the portal environment include:

-- Content management: for managing the content published to the
      Enterprise Web.
-- Collaboration: for allowing people to manage projects and share
      documents across the Enterprise Web.
-- Search: for indexing all the information available from the Enterprise
      Web.
-- Identity management: for managing users` rights across all the systems
      integrated in the Enterprise Web.
-- Business process automation: for routing data between different
systems integrated in the Enterprise Web.

Plumtree relies on its partners to provide these services, and in the case of collaboration, content management and search, also offers its own services.

The demand for this integration was first identified by Gartner in its May 10, 2002 report on Smart Enterprise Suites: "A new `smart suite` is emerging. It covers enterprise needs for content management, knowledge management and collaboration, and supports the extended virtual workplace -- inside and between the enterprise. Currently, the smart enterprise suite represents an ideal state, a nirvana for information sharing across, and possibly between, the enterprise and its partners. There is however a trade-off between integration costs and best-of-breed functionality."(1)

      Plumtree Content Server 4.0

Plumtree Content Server 4.0, launched separately today, is the industry`s premier portal content management system, bringing intranet, extranet and Internet sites into the Enterprise Web`s global framework for security, navigation and knowledge management. Content Server allows portal users across a business to publish content like win-loss reports, technical support articles, corporate communications announcements, product specifications and market updates -- all in a controlled, consistent way.

Based on the 2001 acquisition of technology from Seattle-based content management company Hablador, and thoroughly integrated into the portal over the past year, the technology in Plumtree Content Server 4.0 has been battle-tested at customer sites, and will be generally available in November 2002.

For customers that have already deployed content management systems, Plumtree also offers unparalleled integration with Documentum, Interwoven, FileNET, Lotus, Open Text and Stellent, embedding those products` administrative tools in the portal as Gadget Web Services, and indexing and categorizing their content through Crawler Web Services.

      Plumtree Collaboration Server 2.0

Plumtree Collaboration Server 2.0, announced today, is the newest version of Plumtree Collaboration Server. Collaboration Server stores project information and empowers users to collaborate around documents, announcements, calendars and conversation threads. By offering collaboration as a foundation service, the Enterprise Web can recognize dependencies between projects, and combine tasks and documents from different projects into a universal inbox for each user, allowing employees and customers to work together across traditional organizational and network boundaries.

New features in Collaboration Server 2.0 simplify the creation of projects, and synchronize project updates with desktop productivity tools:

      Project templates for easily creating new projects;
      Project archiving for storing and retrieving old projects;
Task list options for notifying community members, creating sub-tasks
      and logging task history;

Collaboration calendar and Microsoft Exchange calendar synchronization; and
      Expanded international language search support.
Creating an enterprise-wide environment for online collaboration increases productivity, driving projects to completion more efficiently and avoiding travel and meeting costs. Collaboration Server 2.0 will be generally available in November 2002.

      Plumtree Search Server

Plumtree Search Server indexes Collaboration Server project documents, Content Server Web content and all the information in file systems, Web sites and document databases organized in the Plumtree Corporate Portal`s document directory. Deploying search as a foundation service allows Enterprise Web users to find information throughout the Enterprise Web without visiting separate sites, and integrating search into the portal`s administrative and security framework lowers maintenance costs. Based on the 2001 acquisition of RipFire technology, Plumtree Search Server was first integrated into the portal with the May 2002 release of the Plumtree Corporate Portal 4.5WS, and has been extended as part of the Enterprise Web strategy to index Content Server and Collaboration Server content.

Plumtree Single Sign-On Server, Powered by Oblix

Plumtree announced today that it will resell the Oblix NetPoint Access System(TM) bundled with Plumtree Authentication Web Services for synchronizing the portal`s security system with other user directories. Called the Plumtree Single Sign-On Server, Powered by Oblix, this bundle allows Plumtree`s Enterprise Web customers to take advantage of Oblix`s Web authentication and authorization functionality. Integrating single sign-on as a foundation service within the Enterprise Web allows users to navigate between Web applications without repeatedly logging in, and creates a common profile of user roles and privileges on which all the Web applications built within the Enterprise Web can draw.

      Business Process and Workflow

Plumtree is developing a business process engine code-named Fusion, based on technology acquired from Oak Grove Systems, for general release in 2003. Deploying this technology as a foundation service within the Enterprise Web allows customers to create business processes that span all the systems integrated in the Enterprise Web.

Deeper Partner Integration Helps Customers Realize Greater ROI From Existing IT Investments

Because the Enterprise Web is fundamentally an open vision, Web technologies from other vendors can easily be integrated, and the Enterprise Web can even be extended to include new services. Plumtree is launching the Enterprise Web in conjunction with partners Cap Gemini Ernst & Young, Documentum (Nasdaq: DCTM - News) and Oblix, which today announced in a joint release integration strategies to support the Enterprise Web.

Composite Applications Combine Foundation Services and Traditional Systems to Create Integrated User Experiences

Composite applications are Web applications built from Enterprise Web foundation services and elements integrated from traditional systems, which work together within the portal environment as if hosted by a single system. As the first stage of this effort, Plumtree launched the Plumtree Portal Solution for Employee Services in August 2002. The 5.0 version of the Plumtree Corporate Portal, due in early 2003, will provide better platform support for composite applications, with support for wholly separate user experiences hosted within the portal that draw on all the services available in the Enterprise Web.

      Plumtree Software

Plumtree Software is the Enterprise Web technology leader. Plumtree`s mission is to create a comprehensive Web environment for employees, customers and partners across the enterprise to interact with different systems and work together. Plumtree`s Enterprise Web solution consists of integration products for bringing resources from traditional systems together on the Web, foundation services such as collaboration, content management and search for building new Web applications, and a portal platform for delivering these Web applications to broad audiences. Plumtree`s independence and its Web Services Architecture allow this solution to span rival platforms and systems, maximizing customers` return on their existing investments. With offices in more than a dozen countries, Plumtree has over 400 customers, including Boeing, Ford Motor Company, Procter & Gamble and the U.S. Navy.

Oblix and Plumtree Deepen Alliance Through Reseller Agreement, Expanded Technology Integration in Support of Joint Enterprise Web Initiative
Oblix and Plumtree Now Make it Easier to Purchase and Deploy Web Single Sign-on Functionality With the Plumtree Corporate Portal
Monday October 14, 8:04 am ET

CUPERTINO, Calif. and SAN DIEGO, Plumtree Odyssey, Oct. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Oblix, the leading developer of identity-based security solutions and Enterprise Web technology leader Plumtree Software (Nasdaq: PLUM - News) announced today an expanded alliance based on a reseller agreement and deeper technology integration. Plumtree will resell the NetPoint Access System(TM) to provide customers with a single source for the Plumtree Corporate Portal and Oblix`s Web single sign-on, authentication and authorization functionality, simplifying the process of purchasing and deploying these technologies together. The Plumtree Single Sign-On Server, Powered by Oblix, bundles the Oblix NetPoint Access System for Web single sign-on together with Plumtree Authentication Web Services for synchronizing the portal`s security system with other user directories. Plumtree and Oblix have also built on their existing technology integration, providing customers with additional capabilities including centralized identity data storage and a single management console. By reselling the Oblix NetPoint Access System directly with the Plumtree Corporate Portal, this agreement gives customers a single solution for providing security across the portal and across other applications in the Enterprise Web.
"Single sign-on is a foundation service customers need to build new Web applications delivered through the portal, and it`s one of the technologies our customers most frequently purchase along with a corporate portal," said Plumtree CEO John Kunze. "We formed this agreement with Oblix as part of our Enterprise Web strategy to allow customers to deploy foundation technologies for building Web applications together with the portal."

Responding to strong customer demand, Plumtree and Oblix have developed additional integration between the two solutions to include:

-- Centralized Identity Data Storage: The same user identity data managed
by Oblix NetPoint drives access to portal objects. This allows
additions, updates and deletions of user identity data to be propagated
      throughout the portal.
-- Single Management Console: COREid(TM), Oblix NetPoint`s enterprise
identity management system, and the NetPoint Access System can now be
administered through the Plumtree Corporate Portal via Gadget Web
Services, components that can be embedded in portal pages. This single
point of control eliminates administrative redundancy in managing
      complex on-line environments.
-- Richer Gadget Web Service Personalization: Oblix NetPoint can now pass
user attributes stored in an LDAP directory, and managed by Oblix
NetPoint`s COREid system, to Plumtree Gadget Servers. These attributes
can be used to personalize Gadget Web Services for the portal user.

As enterprises extend their portal initiatives, more employees, customers, partners and suppliers interact with more systems and applications. The task of providing secure access to the many different applications scattered throughout the organization becomes very complex. This alliance between Plumtree and Oblix provides customers the ability to centralize the security of all the applications they are exposing and eliminate the various silos of administration and redundancy of security systems. This enables organizations to significantly reduce IT resources needed to build and manage their portals.

"Enterprise organizations not only want best-of-breed solutions for their Web-based initiatives, but they need out-of-the-box integration between these solutions," said Gordon Eubanks, CEO of Oblix. "Plumtree and Oblix share this common vision and are providing customers the ability to build, manage and secure their on-line environments with the most comprehensive solutions on the market today."

GlaxoSmithKline Deploys Plumtree Corporate Portal World-Wide to Drive Enterprise Web
Plumtree`s Web Services Architecture Combines Enterprise-Wide Resources with Local Business Processes in Global Portal
Monday October 14, 9:01 am ET

SAN DIEGO, Plumtree Odyssey, Oct. 14 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Enterprise Web technology leader Plumtree Software (Nasdaq: PLUM - News) today announced that leading pharmaceutical company GlaxoSmithKline (NYSE: GSK - News) has launched the Plumtree Corporate Portal to employees on five continents. The deployment, known as myGSK, is part of an Enterprise Web to support the creation of rich user experiences within the portal that span different systems and business units. It currently has some 50,000 unique visitors every quarter.

Deployed under the banner of "one company, one vision, one portal," GlaxoSmithKline`s portal is an online resource center. "Before we deployed our portal, we had over 3,000 intranet sites. The goal for myGSK is to let employees reach all the information they need whether it comes from headquarters, a business unit, a project team or anywhere else," said Ingo Elfering, vice-president of Global eIT. "Any service we deploy from headquarters or one of the business units can reach a bigger audience more quickly this way. A recent example of this is our new HR Web site that is integrated as a community page into myGSK. It is getting more exposure through our portal than it would as a separate Web site and there are benefits from lower development costs and greater ROI."

"Plumtree`s global scalability, integration with Lotus Notes, Documentum and SAP, and its powerful search and categorization technologies have been crucial to our success with large customers," Plumtree CEO John Kunze. "Coupling our software with a new focus on solutions for pharmaceuticals customers has led to Plumtree`s continued success in this industry."

      What`s in MyGSK?

Over 1,200 Gadget Web Services have been created so far on the myGSK test platform and 170 have been registered for use by employees. MyGSK`s portal communities serve different geographies, different business units and different brands. GSK employees can browse the community sites within the portal`s enterprise framework, or create a personalized portal page that combines information and services from across the portal. It is the vanguard in creating a pull communications culture. Popular services include:

      Web-based HR applications;
      Online supplies procurement;
      Employee directory;
      Postings of frequently asked questions and answers;
      Corporate news and events;
      CEO update; and
Links to internal and external Web sites and applications.
      Why Plumtree?

GlaxoSmithKline chose the Plumtree Corporate Portal because Plumtree best supported GlaxoSmithKline`s federated business model. Different employee groups can run communities within the portal`s horizontal framework, and all the resources available in the portal can be hosted on different platforms and integrated as Web services. Plumtree`s Web Services Architecture allows these components to run remotely and integrate easily with the portal using standard Internet technologies.

      CEO Comments

"We believe our results reflect Plumtree`s focus on profitability. While the IT spending recession of 2002 moderated revenue growth year over year, we consistently delivered on the bottom line," Plumtree CEO John Kunze said. "Additionally, we are pleased that our business continued to be operating cash flow positive and that we strengthened our balance sheet during the period.

"Last quarter, Plumtree launched the culmination of three acquisitions and two major product releases, the Enterprise Web," said Mr. Kunze. "The Enterprise Web combines application integration, content management, collaboration, search and portal in the industry`s first cohesive enterprise-wide work environment. Collectively, these technologies provide a foundation for building new Web applications at lower cost. This strategy helped Plumtree to compete better against platform vendors, appeal to new customers and deliver more value to existing customers.

"The environment remains challenging but we intend to build on customer success while maintaining our financial discipline to meet market opportunities in 2003."

      Fourth Quarter Highlights
      Fourth quarter 2002 highlights include:

Plumtree conducted a record number of transactions in the fourth quarter, adding 43 new customers and selling new products or additional portal licenses to 46 existing customers. Plumtree now supports more than 450 total customers, and 29 companies in the Fortune 100.
Plumtree released Plumtree Content Server 4.0, a content management system based on the acquisition of technology from Hablador, and Plumtree Collaboration Server 2.0. New customers such as Unilever and Team Health and existing customers such as Airbus, Fannie Mae Foundation, Halliburton and Starcom Media Group purchased licenses, validating demand for an Enterprise Web solution broader than what was previously available in the traditional portal market.
Plumtree launched its Enterprise Web strategy at its annual user conference in October, attended by over 600 representatives from customers and partners. After attending the conference, AMR Research stated that Plumtree`s customers "are the most innovative we`ve seen" and that "Plumtree has the highest percentage of full-fledged portals in production."
In keynote presentations, customers Pratt & Whitney and Halliburton described new, composite applications built on the portal that automate processes and integrate content across multiple systems for employees, customers and partners.
META Group published a new portal market report that ranked Plumtree the number one vendor overall, recognizing the strength of Plumtree`s technology and customer references.
Eleven customers, including Applebee`s International, bought the Plumtree Portal Package (P3), the mid-market offering introduced by Plumtree in the third quarter of 2002.
Plumtree gained momentum in the Asia-Pacific region, winning new customers including Tokyo Electric in Japan and LG Fire and Marine Life in Korea. Plumtree also won its first customer in Latin America.
Customers including Weyerhaeuser completed deployments of the Plumtree Corporate Portal. Cadbury Schweppes, SwissRe and TELUS upgraded their deployments to version 4.5WS, the version of the Plumtree portal platform based entirely on Web services.

      Plumtree: More plum than prune?
Plus: A tally of first week of Q4 reports in Net group

      By Bambi Francisco, CBS.MarketWatch.com
Last Update: 3:21 PM ET Jan. 17, 2003

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS.MW) -- Plumtree Software -- boasting a lot of cash and a profitable quarter -- is looking like a plum of an Internet stock Friday.

Shares soared as much as 45 percent in Friday trades after the company said a surge in portal software sales in the final months of last year helped it swing to a profit in the fourth quarter.

In the final hour of trading, Plumtree shares were up 99 cents to $3.90, having previously traded as high as $4.22, their highest level in more than six months.

Late Thursday, Plumtree Software (PLUM: news, chart, profile) said it sold $19.5 million in portal software in the final months of last year. While those sales were down from $22.8 million in the comparable period a year ago, that figure was up from $17.7 million in the prior quarter.

Plumtree earned $1.9 million, or 6 cents per share, in the fourth quarter of last year. This compares with a loss of $888,000 in the year-ago period. Excluding certain items, Plumtree earned $2.3 million.

      Positively plummy

It was also profitable in the first and second quarters of last year.

What`s more, Plumtree said it has $65.3 million in cash, cash equivalents and short-term investments. And no debt. Its market valuation, as of Friday morning, stood at $103 million. It closed out the year with $82.9 million in sales.

But while Plumtree looks hardy as it puts down roots in the market, investors wonder whether the roots are deep enough to keep the company upright in the most trying times. The question is: Is it a plum or a prune?

At this price, the stock looks plumy -- provided the company continues to execute. Those who bought shares at $8.50 at last June`s IPO from Goldman Sachs and other investment bankers and brokerage houses on the IPO deal might think it`s the latter.

The more appropriate question might be this: Can it be sold before this plum shrivels?

Plumtree said it expects sales to fall to $18.5 million in the first quarter, according to Glen Kelman, vice president of marketing and founder of Plumtree. The lower sales will lower profits in the quarter. But excluding certain items, Plumtree does expect to post a pro forma profit of 1 to 2 cents.

"When we do better than $18 million, there is leverage in the business model, the profit swings as revenue exceeds $18 million," said Kelman.

      Portal-software wars

IT spending also remains elusive across the software industry.

Any scent of demand in one area of software will attract sales-starved competitors. The portal-software sector is getting very crowded as larger vendors seek to offer portal servers with their application servers.

Plumtree`s top rival is IBM (IBM: news, chart, profile), which bundles its WebSphere application server with its portal server, said Kelman.

"Generally, we`ll win when customers want to run on the IBM application server but want to integrate applications that aren`t IBM," Kelman said. "Customers want the Web to be an open environment; they don`t want to limit themselves with one vendor."

Still, in this economy, only few software vendors are expected to survive.

Consolidation is already happening. And, observers say the price tags are low. Recall Vignette (VIGN: news, chart, profile) purchased Plumtree rival Epicentric for $26 million in cash. See Vignette release.

So wouldn`t it make sense to be purchased by a larger company to achieve economies of scale in distribution? "Our customers have been explicit asking that we remain impartial in integrating systems," said Kelman. "We`d lose our independence." See related story: Riding out the January surge in tech.

WHO SAYS NO ONE is investing in technology these days? Certainly not Plumtree Software (PLUM). The maker of enterprise Web applications got a boost from Wall Street on Friday after it recorded much better than expected earnings, thanks to its success in winning new clients and increasing its licensing revenue.
Late Thursday, Plumtree reported pro-forma earnings of $2.3 million, or eight cents a share, for the fourth quarter. Analysts expected the company to earn just two cents, according to Thomson First Call. A year earlier, Plumtree posted pro-forma earning of three cents a share. Both periods excluded a host of charges. But even on a net basis, the company had a fourth-quarter profit of $1.9 million, or six cents a share, vs. a year-earlier net loss of 11 cents. Revenue fell to $19.5 million from $22.8 million last year, but surpassed the third quarter`s $17.7 million. Nearly 60% of fourth-quarter revenue was derived from licenses.

Investors seemed pleased by Plumtree`s real profits and sequential sales growth during an IT spending recession, as shares of the San Francisco company jumped 36% to $3.94 by Friday`s close.

So how did the company`s results come in so much higher than anyone on Wall Street anticipated? It seems Plumtree`s effort to capture new customers worked. During the final three months of 2002 the company won 43 new clients, up from 34 in the third quarter. It also closed a record 89 deals, compared with just 67 during the preceding three months. And two of those transactions topped seven figures. Plumtree now has more than 450 customers, including such corporate heavyweights as Boeing (BA), Ford (F) and Procter & Gamble (PG).

Still, at least some analysts were bothered by the company`s failure to offer any earnings guidance for 2003, signaling perhaps that the outlook remains too murky. The best management could offer investors who were looking for a little hand-holding was a forecast for the first quarter of 2003. Plumtree says to expect revenue to drop some 2.5% to 7.5% from fourth-quarter levels to between $18 million and $19 million. As for earnings, look for no more than a penny or two per share — less than the five cents reported for the first quarter of 2002. Some analysts say that until Plumtree`s earnings visibility improves, investors should exercise caution.

But it was a different message from management. Plumtree cited market research showing that even cash-strapped companies plan to spend on enterprise portals. Morgan Stanley`s survey of chief information officers, for example, ranked portals as the No. 2 spending priority in 2003, trailing only security software. "Ultimately, it`s clear that the market is headed in this direction," says Plumtree Chief Executive John Kunze, "and we feel our products, openness and strong customer references uniquely equip us to lead it."

      Quote:
"Overall, we applaud the results for the quarter," wrote Greg Kleiner, an analyst with Soundview Technology Group, on Friday. "We had gotten a sense from the company when we upgraded the stock [to Neutral from Underperform on Dec. 4] that it was feeling better about its place in the world. However, the trends that we continue to see in the market leave us concerned about Plumtree`s long-term position in this market." (Kleiner doesn`t own any Plumtree Software shares, and Soundview Technology Group has no investment-banking relationship with the company.)

Award-Winning Portal Empowers Affordable Housing and Community Development Leaders to Share Resources, Expertise, and Best Practices

SAN FRANCISCO, Jan. 22 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Enterprise Web technology leader Plumtree Software (Nasdaq: PLUM - News) today announced that the Fannie Mae Foundation has deployed its Plumtree-powered KnowledgePlex extranet portal. KnowledgePlex is the first online environment that centralizes collaboration, information and expertise within the affordable housing and community development fields. Policymakers, scholars and practitioners such as housing activists or lenders can share knowledge, collaborate on policy issues, and research best practices through the portal to create better housing, stronger neighborhoods and safer streets. Originally launched in October of 2001, the KnowledgePlex portal has over 6,000 registered users and is growing at an average rate of 500 new users per month from word-of-mouth referrals. The KnowledgePlex portal was recently selected from a field of 1,300 competitors to win "Best Portal Web Site" in the Web Marketing Association`s WebAwards. The public can visit the KnowledgePlex portal and 25 other Plumtree-powered extranet portals at www.plumtree.com/extranets.

"The affordable housing and community development field tends to be fragmented because the contributors -? local or regional governments, neighborhood groups, activists, nonprofits and developers ?- are isolated from one another regionally and functionally," said Peter Beard, Fannie Mae Foundation Senior Vice President of Knowledge Access and Technology Strategy. "Plumtree`s Enterprise Web technologies -- an integrated portal, collaboration tools and search -- enabled us to create an interactive workspace for sharing research, experience and opinions and collaborating on important housing issues. The KnowledgePlex portal is transforming how information is shared in our field, and it is ultimately making us more effective at revitalizing America`s communities."

What`s in the KnowledgePlex extranet portal?

The Fannie Mae Foundation partnered with national organizations as well as community-based nonprofits to incorporate a broad range of resources into the portal. The KnowledgePlex portal provides easy access to these resources by:

-- Aggregating and indexing articles, case studies, reports, journals and
      over 300 news sources in a searchable knowledge base;
-- Hosting collaboration groups where users discuss and share documents on
a wide variety of topics such as urban development or low-income and

NetJets Deploys Plumtree Enterprise Web Suite: Corporate Portal, Content Server, Collaboration Server and Search Server
Wednesday March 12, 1:32 pm ET
IntraNetJets Portal Creates Open Platform for Developing New Web Applications at Low Cost

SAN FRANCISCO, March 12 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Enterprise Web technology leader Plumtree Software (Nasdaq: PLUM - News) today announced that NetJets, the pioneer and worldwide leader in fractional aircraft ownership is deploying the Plumtree Corporate Portal, Content Server, Collaboration Server and Search Server as the platform for its Enterprise Web strategy, driving operational efficiency. Previously, NetJets had a static intranet, several homegrown applications, and a massive paper trail for managing processes including plane maintenance records, staffing schedules, unique airport procedures and customer preferences. NetJets` portal, IntraNetJets, Web enables and automates processes across the business, speeding delivery of content and services, allowing for better compliance with regulations and ultimately improving customer service through collaboration.
      (Photo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20000405/SFW002 )
"We had great demand for automating common business processes and making our homegrown programs easier to use, so we chose an open solution that provided comprehensive, well-integrated functionality. With Plumtree`s Content Server and Collaboration Server, the portal becomes a dynamic, company-wide working environment, and deploying these technologies together gives us a development platform for creating and delivering new applications in the future. Each group, from Marketing to Meteorology, is empowered to create and publish content in a community, interact with data locked in many different backend systems and collaborate with colleagues scattered across the world," said Rob Carr, project manager. "For us, the need for the portal is like the need for electrical lighting, it`s not a matter of simple ROI on the software, it`s a necessary part of doing business."

What`s in IntraNetJets: Aircraft Tracking, Client Support Collaboration Groups

NetJets standardized on technologies from Plumtree for collaboration, content management and search that are delivered through the Plumtree Corporate Portal. These technologies allow business users to collaborate on projects through group calendars, task lists, threaded discussions, and shared documents, to create new Web content that can be published to the portal in a controlled, consistent way, and to search an index of corporate content stored in a variety of repositories. Ultimately, NetJets plans to re-use these foundation services in new Web applications delivered by the portal and in a future extranet portal for customers and partners.

NetJets also uses the Plumtree Portlet Suite for Microsoft Exchange to integrate e-mail and calendars into the portal as well portlets from Screaming Media for news, weather and stock updates. NetJets has developed portlets for integrating Microsoft Project, Visio business diagramming, Great Plains financial software and legacy applications. By bringing together all of these pieces, IntraNetJets is improving productivity across the organization:

Executives can monitor through an executive dashboard operational data like the number of planes that are broken or late and the number of crew members registered for training. Consolidating all this operational data saves executives` time and resources, freeing them to focus on strategic goals.
Client support teams worldwide can use Collaboration Server features including task lists, threaded discussions and document sharing to support highly detailed customer needs and ensure that each of NetJets` supporting vendors meet customers` unique requirements.
Flight planning groups can view real-time positioning of the entire airplane fleet, crew status, previous, current, and next flights through portlets built by NetJets. Because NetJets assures any client a plane within four hours, these services are mission-critical for making sure that planes are correctly dispersed and ready for operation at a moment`s notice.
HR managers use Content Server to create and publish new job postings and announcements within NetJets.
Management can collaborate on budgets and other cross-organizational projects through Collaboration Server, where proposal documents are developed, debated and scheduled. This virtual teamwork is critical, as NetJets provides 24-hour service around the world.
A mandatory community with news, company events and executive messages decreases the use of company-wide emails. Content Server templates help ensure that all news posted on this community adheres to corporate branding guidelines.
NetJets is planning to extend the portal to mobile devices as well as to partners and customers in the future and hopes to provide online invoicing, scheduling, and enhanced collaboration with clients` personalized support teams.

Plumtree Chosen for Unified Platform with Broad Integration

Finding a portal solution with an open architecture was critical in NetJets` selection process as NetJets has a heterogeneous IT environment, with programs in Visual Basic, ASP.NET as well as Java, and data stored in Oracle and SQL Server databases. NetJets also chose Plumtree for its ability to provide a single, consistent experience while providing scale-tested integration for a large number of disparate systems. NetJets wanted a development platform with unified portal, content management and collaboration features that was quick and easy to deploy and would not require significant and ongoing consulting services. Additionally, NetJets chose Plumtree based on Plumtree`s market leadership and its strong customer references.

Plumtree Content Server Gains Traction With Over 34 Customers and 230,000 Users
Wednesday March 12, 1:33 pm ET
Content Server 4.1 Offers Enhanced Usability

SAN FRANCISCO, March 12 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Enterprise Web technology leader Plumtree Software (Nasdaq: PLUM - News) today announced that more than 34 customers have licensed Content Server for over 230,000 users since its release in Q4 of 2002. Content Server is a key product in Plumtree`s Enterprise Web suite, which also includes the Plumtree Corporate Portal, Plumtree Collaboration Server, Plumtree Search Server and Plumtree Single Sign-On Server, powered by Oblix. Content Server empowers portal users across an organization to create, edit and publish content in a controlled, consistent way to portal, intranet and extranet sites.
      (Photo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20000405/SFW002 )
Plumtree will be demonstrating Content Server during a Web seminar on March 13, with registration at www.plumtree.com.

Customers Publish Quality Content Across the Organization

Since Content Server`s release in November 2002, more than 34 customers worldwide have licensed the product for over 230,000 users, including five customers that licensed Content Server for more than 15,000 users each. Customers including Airbus, Citizens Property Insurance Corporation, the Hungarian Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Education in Luxembourg, NetJets, Quantum Corporation, Starcomm Media Group and the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) are using Content Server to add rich content to their portal deployments.

Content maintainers for the Ministry of Education, Luxembourg`s mySchool portal use Content Server to publish newsletters and e-magazines to the portal directory where teachers, students and people interested in education can read or subscribe to the news. Publishing newsletters with Content Server replaces a labor-intensive process of creating the content in Microsoft Word, converting Word documents to Adobe files, which were then uploaded to the portal manually. The Ministry is currently using Content Server in its production portal, and plans to make published content available to the public this quarter.

"Content Server adds significant value to our existing mySchool! portal environment, filling mySchool! with rich content and helping us avoid an empty portal," said Daniel Weiler, project manager for mySchool!. "Now, the content in our portal has a more polished and consistent look, and the templates make it quite easy for non-technical users to publish new content to the portal."

At Citizens Property Insurance, business units such as Underwriting and Agent Management plan to use Content Server templates to easily publish forms, statutory requirements and other resources to the Plumtree-powered portal. Content Server should help Citizens Property Insurance Corporation transition Web publishing from a single Web master to users in its business units who manage the information published on the site.

The USGS plans to use Content Server to involve the public to help make information on its National Biological Information Infrastructure (NBII) portal more useful. The Plumtree-powered NBII portal, named My.NBII.Gov, provides a single point of access to a wealth of biodiversity data, and a destination for dynamic collaboration and project management between NBII staff, partners, and contractors. Plumtree Content Server will provide a form- based process for users to submit feedback on environmental best practices documents that the USGS publishes to the portal, saving time and improving the quality of the content in the portal.

Version 4.1 Streamlines Publishing and Searching

Plumtree also announced today the general availability of version 4.1 of Content Server. Content Server 4.1 is designed to enhance usability and adds several key new features, including:

      Index management: Customers can easily manage index pages, which are automatically updated when new content is published;
      Related item publishing: Content Server 4.1 enables bulk publishing of related content;
      Search exclusion: Users can exclude from searches various content items and properties, such as graphics, to obtain more targeted results;
Extended platform support: Content Server 4.1 now runs on both IBM WebSphere and BEA WebLogic, offering customers the flexibility to leverage their existing infrastructure; and
Spanish language support: In addition to French, German and Italian, Plumtree Content Server 4.1 supports Spanish-speaking users.

SUNNYVALE, Calif., April 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Inxight Software, Inc., the leading provider of software solutions for effectively using unstructured data, today announced a new alliance with Enterprise Web technology leader Plumtree Software (Nasdaq: PLUM - News). Through the agreement, Plumtree has licensed Inxight`s industry-leading language processing technology, Inxight LinguistX Platform, to expand the multilingual search capabilities in Plumtree Search Server. Plumtree Search Server queries and indexes content throughout the Enterprise Web, including project documents stored by Plumtree Collaboration Server, Web pages managed by Plumtree Content Server, and content indexed from file systems, Web sites and document databases into the portal`s document directory. With the added multilingual functionality from Inxight, Plumtree Search Server will provide more extensive search returns for international customers, helping them find the information they need in the portal more quickly and easily.

The Plumtree Corporate Portal brings together content, applications and services from incompatible platforms into a secure workspace for employees, partners and customers. Plumtree Search Server indexes content in the portal`s document directory and is tightly integrated with the other technologies of the Enterprise Web, freeing administrators from having to separately secure and manage multiple search indexes. Inxight`s technology will add advanced linguistic features for identifying core search terms in multiple languages within Plumtree Search Server, allowing international customers to conduct more accurate information searches in the portal.

"Plumtree Search Server indexes documents in 23 European and Asian languages, but we needed advanced stemming and tokenization features to fine tune our search capabilities," said Phil Soffer, director of product management at Plumtree. "As a result, users searching in their native languages will get results that reflect the particulars of their language. Inxight`s technology is key to enabling these capabilities."

"We are happy to help Plumtree better serve its global customer base," said David Spenhoff, Inxight`s vice president of marketing. "Our unrivaled multilingual search capabilities enable users to easily find the information that they need to do their jobs more effectively. This translates into a sizeable competitive advantage as companies are able to quickly improve productivity across the organization, and thus realize significant cost reductions."

Inxight`s LinguistX Platform offers the fastest, most accurate suite of multilingual language processing services available, which are critical to search and text mining applications. Languages supported by Inxight LinguistX Platform include: Chinese (Simplified and Traditional), Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, French, Finnish, German, Greek, Hungarian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Norwegian (Bokmal and Nynorsk), Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Romanian, Spanish, Swedish and Turkish. Plumtree Software Announces First Quarter 2003 Operating Results
      THURSDAY, APRIL 10, 2003 4:10 PM
      - PR Newswire
SAN FRANCISCO, Apr 10, 2003 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX/ -- Enterprise Web technology leader Plumtree Software, Inc. (PLUM) today announced results for its first quarter ended March 31, 2003. Revenue for the first quarter 2003 was $17.2 million, compared to $19.5 million in the previous quarter and $23.2 million for the comparable quarter last year. Net income for the first quarter 2003 calculated in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) was $529,000, or $0.02 per share, compared to $1.9 million, or $0.06 per share in Q4, and $157,000 or $0.01 per share for the comparable quarter last year. Pro forma net income for the first quarter 2003 was approximately $1.1 million or $0.04 per share, compared to pro forma net income of $2.3 million or $0.08 per share in Q4 and $1.4 million or $0.05 for the comparable quarter last year. Pro forma net income for the quarter excludes charges for amortization of deferred stock-based compensation, amortization of acquired technology, and assumes an effective tax rate of 30%.

As of March 31, 2003, Plumtree`s cash, cash equivalents, and short-term investments totaled approximately $66.7 million, up from $65.3 million in the previous quarter. Plumtree has no long-term debt.

      CEO Comments

"In a difficult economy, Plumtree has continued to generate profits and acquire new customers," said Plumtree CEO John Kunze. "We have also continued to replace large installations of competing products. No other vendor has been able to demonstrate within its portal business the financial discipline, customer satisfaction and openness to different types of software infrastructure that we have. These are the long-term assets that will help us lead our market."

      First Quarter Highlights
      First quarter 2003 highlights include:

-- Customers: new customers such as the Salvation Army and the Tennessee Valley Authority licensed Plumtree`s complete suite of portal, content management, collaboration and search technologies. Plumtree customer Alcoa began its portal deployment, which will eventually reach over 50,000 employees worldwide, and customer SPL Worldgroup completed its portal deployment, which reaches users in six countries, including the U.S., the U.K., France, Australia, Israel and the Philippines.

-- Return on investment: industry analysts at Delphi Group published a survey of 500 organizations that found that Plumtree customers enjoyed the greatest return on investment in the portal industry and that Plumtree had the highest share of actual portal deployments.

-- Total cost of ownership: Plumtree completed a survey of its own customers indicating that 94% of respondents would buy Plumtree`s solution again, and that three-quarters of customers deploy a production portal in less than six months. Whereas analyst research indicates that the typical Web application costs four to twelve times the original license cost, Plumtree survey respondents on average spent less on deployment services than on the original software license.

-- Vision: Industry analysts at Gartner listed Plumtree in the leader quadrant in a new Magic Quadrant for portals based on vision and ability to execute. Gartner also developed a second Magic Quadrant for a new category of software known as the Smart Enterprise Suite. While Gartner did not list any vendors in the leader quadrant in the nascent market, Plumtree was listed in the visionary quadrant.

-- Applications: Plumtree completed the first phase of a new "No Empty Portals!" initiative to share best practices for building applications in the portal, with fourteen customers speaking in nine cities to a total of more than 600 attendees. Plumtree also launched a series of "No Empty Portals!" online workshops, with seven customer-delivered Web seminars. The goal of the initiative is to establish Plumtree customers as the leaders in building new, composite applications based on a foundation of portal, integration, collaboration, content management and search technologies.

      Financial Outlook

Plumtree Software projects second quarter 2003 net revenue to be between $17.2 million and $18.0 million. On a pro forma basis, the company expects second quarter 2003 net income to be between ($0.01) and $0.00 per share. Pro forma net earnings per share in our outlook exclude charges for amortization of deferred stock-based compensation estimated to be $485,000, amortization of acquired technology of approximately $395,000, and assumes an effective tax rate of 30%. Giving effect to these assumptions, second quarter GAAP net income is expected to between ($0.04) and $(0.03) per share.

San Francisco (Calif., USA), 29.

      Großunternehmen investieren massiv in Portale

      Kosten sparen - leicht gemacht?

Plumtree Announces Availability of Plumtree Portlet Framework for PeopleSoft
Monday May 12, 2:07 pm ET
First Horizontal Portal to Integrate PeopleSoft Resources Alongside Enterprise Applications, Content and Collaboration Services

SAN FRANCISCO, May 12 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Enterprise Web leader Plumtree Software (Nasdaq: PLUM - News) today announced the general availability of the Plumtree Portlet Framework for PeopleSoft, which allows portal managers to create portlets for displaying, searching and updating data from any PeopleSoft 8 system. The Framework, designed and developed with guidance from more than 20 customers that use both Plumtree and PeopleSoft, can integrate virtually any PeopleSoft service into the Plumtree Corporate Portal without coding. As a result, customers can create applications within a Plumtree portal based on services from PeopleSoft as well as services from other systems, including the search, content management and collaboration capabilities offered as part of the Plumtree Enterprise Web Suite.
      (Logo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20000405/SFW002 )
The PeopleSoft Framework is part of a Plumtree anti-sprawl strategy that relies on the portal interfaces of SAP R/3 and PeopleSoft to incorporate user experiences from these systems into the broader experience of the Plumtree Corporate Portal. Plumtree is the first horizontal portal vendor to provide dynamic integration to PeopleSoft systems.

"It`s important to think beyond just Web-enabling PeopleSoft to understand how a portal can assemble components from many systems to deliver many different Web applications," said Plumtree CEO John Kunze. "Using Plumtree and PeopleSoft together, customers can, for example, build rich employee service centers with online forms and announcements, threaded conversations, and a knowledge-base of policies and procedures. This employee service application can be embedded in an enterprise-wide portal that also features applications for different business units, such as sales & marketing or research & development, and different audiences, such as customers and partners."

The Portlet Framework for PeopleSoft provides a graphical environment for creating new Plumtree portlets against any standard or custom PeopleSoft Component Interface (CI). Plumtree also offers frameworks for building portlets for SAP R/3 and Siebel. These portlets can be embedded within portal applications that combine resources from many existing systems, as well as new services for collaboration, content management and search that systems such as PeopleSoft may lack.

Plumtree developed the PeopleSoft Framework to support the strategies of customers such as Cinergy, which deployed a collaborative portal for 7,300 employees. Prior to this release of the Framework, Cinergy customized its Plumtree portal to incorporate PeopleSoft HRMS data. Cinergy first deployed the Plumtree portal to Web-enable common HR processes, and soon expanded the deployment to deliver other applications. A Treasury Community, for example, was created to share investor information, monthly treasury statistics, cash forecasts and credit ratings to internal Cinergy clients, reducing inbound calls to the Treasury department.

"Cinergy saw a need to Web-enable our HR processes, and employee HR self-service was an obvious way to get real value from the portal quickly," said Ginny Segbers, supervisor of new media at Cinergy. "Integrating PeopleSoft resources through a horizontal portal like Plumtree`s has proven valuable, saving employees time by allowing them to interact with multiple systems from one common environment. As our portal deployment progresses, we are building other rich applications for lines of business throughout the organization."

Using a simple, step-by-step graphical user interface, PeopleSoft experts can dynamically create an unlimited number of PeopleSoft portlets based on components in any PeopleSoft 8 system, including HRMS, CRM and Financials. Each portlet created with the PeopleSoft Framework empowers business people to display, search and update PeopleSoft for information such as paycheck information, sales and customer data, order information, and financial data, which can be embedded in new portal applications, as well as in personalized portal pages. Integrating this data with resources from other systems, such as e-mail, calendar and key performance indicators, as well as content from across the enterprise, allows customers to build rich applications than span applications and platforms, and realize greater value from all their resources.

Mazda Deploys Plumtree Corporate Portal to Support 700 Dealerships In North America
Wednesday May 14, 2:28 pm ET
Mazda Expects Portal Dashboard Application to Yield 100% ROI in First Six Months

SAN FRANCISCO, May 14 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Enterprise Web technology leader Plumtree Software (Nasdaq: PLUM - News) announced today that Mazda North America has deployed the Plumtree Corporate Portal for sales and customer service field managers overseeing Mazda`s 700 North American dealerships. Mazda field managers are responsible for visiting each dealership in their territory at least four times a year to review performance and improve sales. The portal integrates into a dashboard application information and resources from diverse repositories including IBM DB2 mainframes and Microsoft Exchange, as well as Microsoft Excel financial reports, empowering managers to easily compare performance metrics of dealerships, identify growth opportunities and target areas for improvement. Using the Plumtree portal, regional managers can analyze consolidated data on both sales and customer support performance 24 hours a day and can track near real-time sales figures for all dealerships nation-wide. This dealer analysis application has decreased the time it takes to prepare for dealership visits and reviews by over 50%.
      (Logo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20000405/SFW002 )
"Before the portal we had no easy way to review all of the business indicators for both sales and service," said Jim DiMarzio, CIO of Mazda North America. "With these indicators centralized and Web enabled through the portal, our field managers can see vital information in context, can prepare better and faster for dealership visits, and we believe, are having more productive visits. Based on the savings we are already experiencing, we expect 100% ROI from the portal deployment in the first six months alone."

      What`s in Mazda`s Portal?

To build the dealership application in the portal, Mazda integrated several systems into the portal. To integrate content from Excel financial reports alongside managers` e-mails, calendars and contact information from Exchange, Mazda is using the Plumtree Portal Framework for Microsoft Excel and Plumtree Portlet Suite for Microsoft Exchange. Mazda is also using Crawler Web Services to index information from business and industry news sources relevant to the field managers. The searchable document directory in Mazda`s portal indexes resources including order, parts and customer retention reports, announcements from corporate headquarters, training manuals, and marketing collateral that were previously not accessible to field managers on the road.

Before the portal, Mazda`s field managers spent up to three days collecting performance data from mainframe reports, spreadsheets, and third party analyses to prepare for a single dealership visit. Managers would print hundreds of pages of sales, support and customer care figures to analyze the dealer`s performance and to compare it to the performance of other dealerships. After sorting through the paperwork and trying to determine current success and growth targets, the manager would haul the data to the dealership for the formal meeting.

Mazda deployed the Plumtree Corporate Portal to provide managers with easy access to the data they need for dealership reviews. Managers can also drill down into the detailed reports that feed the dashboard application. Through this dealer analysis application, managers view performance on the national, regional and local level for measurements including:

      Quarterly, monthly and weekly sales;
      Sales and services standard indexes;
      Rolling 12 month customer care ratings;
      Field expense summaries;
      Facility requirements;
      Goodwill after warranty;
      Parts inventory comparisons; and
      Recall reminder reports.
The portal has increased field managers` productivity and reduced printing and shipping costs. Mazda also believes that the portal has improved the quality of the manager visits to dealerships by providing a clearer analysis from which to start discussions between the dealerships and the field managers.

Plumtree Chosen for Open Architecture and Out-of-the-Box Functionality

Mazda chose Plumtree for its mature portal product with strong out-of-the- box functionality to integrate applications and manage content. These features allowed Mazda to plan, build and deploy the portal solution in under six months. Additionally, Mazda needed to integrate a wide range of systems running on various platforms, and to support programmers that write in both Java and ASP, which was supported by the Plumtree Corporate Portal`s Web Services Architecture. HandySoft and Plumtree Announce Solution to Automate Sarbanes-Oxley Compliance
Wednesday May 28, 1:15 pm ET
Best-of-Breed Solution Provides Process Improvement, Collaboration And Real-Time Reporting, Accelerating Auditing Process

VIENNA, Va. and SAN FRANCISCO, May 28 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- HandySoft Corporation, the leader in business process management (BPM) solutions, and Enterprise Web leader Plumtree Software today announced the Sarbanes-Oxley Accelerator, a solution that helps publicly traded companies comply with the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002. This solution combines best-of-breed technologies to accelerate the Sarbanes-Oxley auditing process, simplifying the auditing of internal controls and the preparation of financial reports.
      (Photo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20000405/SFW002 )
The Sarbanes-Oxley Act is the cornerstone of federal regulators` financial accounting reform and attempts to protect investors by holding executives of public companies directly accountable for any misrepresentation of a company`s financial information. According to AMR Research`s May 2003 report CIOs: There is a Sarbanes-Oxley Project in Your Future - Do you know what it is?, "61 percent of companies expect business process change will be required [to comply with Sarbanes-Oxley legislation]." Many public companies are using technology to automate the enforcement of financial rules and processes to comply with the Sarbanes-Oxley Act. This compliance effort is also an opportunity for companies to reap wider business benefits as their business and financial processes are evaluated, improved, automated and strictly enforced.

Both companies will conduct a series of Web seminars including product demonstrations. For more information on how to register visit: http://www.plumtree.com/sarbanes-oxley, or http://www.handysoft.com/solutions/sarbanes-oxley/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow ugc noopener">http://www.handysoft.com/solutions/sarbanes-oxley/

"With the SEC`s unanimous vote yesterday detailing new Sarbanes-Oxley requirements, it`s imperative that companies start addressing these complex reforms now, using the timeline extension to insure that the audit process is comprehensive, timely, and accurate," said Stuart Claggett, chief operating officer of HandySoft. "To address these challenges we are continuing to develop rapidly deployable, process-based solutions that reduce time-to-compliance, improve audit quality, and provide public companies with the flexibility to deal with future regulations and the management of on-going financial process improvement."

"Most enterprises should take a step further than `just complying` with Sarbanes-Oxley," said Debra Logan, analyst with Gartner Research. "If you must keep certain records for the purposes of Sarbanes-Oxley, don`t stop there. Most enterprises have huge content management problems, uncontrolled explosions of e-mail, and lack of policy and procedure around many document-based processes. Take advantage of this forced opportunity to roll out document and records management software and procedures to gain business efficiency as well, rather than just using it to reduce the risk of noncompliance."

To design the processes within the Sarbanes-Oxley Accelerator, and to validate auditing and internal control reporting requirements mandated in the Sarbanes-Oxley Act, HandySoft consulted leading auditors including Ernst & Young. The Sarbanes-Oxley Accelerator will help customers establish the requisite internal controls and reporting procedures, while providing a platform for collaborating with auditors and board members, and for building best practices around the collection and reporting of financial data.

The Sarbanes-Oxley Accelerator combines business process management from HandySoft`s award winning BizFlow platform with collaboration, search, and a personalized portal experience from Plumtree`s Enterprise Web Suite. The solution gives each member of the extended accounting team a personalized view of the compliance process based on his or her responsibilities:

-- Account teams can collect and document financial evidence, submit
account information into a defined workflow through electronic forms,
      collaborate on documentation, and receive assigned tasks;
-- Internal and external auditors can monitor compliance and drill down
into supporting evidence, and can review reports, policies and
      procedures to identify any gaps with regulation;
-- Controllers can manage the planning, testing, and reviewing of internal
controls, identify and resolve issues in process or documentation,
review and approve documentation, and assign tasks; and
-- Executives, boards of directors and audit committees can access the
breadth of information needed to attest to the effectiveness of
internal financial controls, review the audit status reports or a
timeline of tasks in real-time, and drill-down into supporting details.

"The Sarbanes-Oxley Accelerator is a major milestone in our `No Empty Portals` campaign to build partnerships and bring to market applications that deliver value for every line-of-business," said Plumtree CFO Eric Borrmann. "As businesses face new challenges such as Sarbanes-Oxley compliance, Plumtree customers can assemble solutions quickly based on a set of shared services for portal, collaboration, content management and search."

The Sarbanes-Oxley Accelerator is expected to be available in June from both companies, offered as a stand-alone solution or as an add-on to existing HandySoft or Plumtree products. The public can learn more about the offerings at www.plumtree.com or www.handysoft.com.

      CEO Comments

"We are pleased to have posted a notable sequential increase in our top and bottom line performance in a season that is typically challenging for the industry," said Plumtree President and CEO John Kunze. "Our solid execution not only exceeded analysts` expectations but also strengthened the balance sheet with more cash and an increase in deferred revenue."

"We attribute much of our success in the quarter to the release of the Plumtree Enterprise Suite. Designed to support not only one simple portal experience, but a volume and variety of Web applications, this release has transformed our customer value proposition. Together with a new, solutions- oriented sales approach and the publication of new comparative ROI data, this release has helped us to be more effective at delivering compelling applications to our customers," Kunze said.

      Third Quarter Highlights

      Third quarter 2003 highlights include:
-- Customers: Plumtree added 34 new customers in the quarter including
the U.S. Department of the Interior, the American Cancer Society, the
San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency, Kenneth Cole Productions
and the Bermuda Government. Several of Plumtree`s largest new customers
are deploying the UNIX version of its software. Hamilton Sundstrand
reported $5.6 million of savings per year due to productivity gains
realized by its Plumtree-powered Enterprise Web deployment, and was
named the 2003 RealWare Portal Application Development Merit Award
      Winner.

-- Deployment Momentum: Plumtree this quarter announced significant
customer deployment momentum, after reaching a milestone of over 40
customers with Enterprise Web deployments of 10,000 users or more. The
City of Calgary has deployed Plumtree to over one million residents,
Ford Motor Company has deployed Plumtree to over 250,00 employees
worldwide, and United Technologies Corporation has deployed Plumtree to
100,000 employees, partners and customers across six subsidiaries.
Plumtree also completed its first large-scale customer upgrades to the
5.0 version of its Enterprise Web software; customers including
Halliburton and Quantum will share their upgrade experience with other
customers this week at Plumtree Odyssey 2003.

-- ROI Validation: In August, Nucleus Research conducted an independent
survey of Plumtree, IBM and SAP portal customers and found that
Plumtree customers lead IBM and SAP customers in portal ROI. Nucleus`
survey showed that 85% of Plumtree`s surveyed customers reported a
positive return on investment and found that Plumtree customers had
greater ROI than IBM and SAP customers in all six measured areas:
increased productivity, reduced head count, cost avoidance, reduced
customer support costs, increased revenues and reduced IT costs. This
result confirmed a similar finding from a January 2003 Delphi Group of
500 portal customers, from which Plumtree also emerged as the ROI
      leader.

Product Development: Plumtree was the first company to ship products supporting the new WSRP and JSR 168 portlet Web Services standards. Unlike the application server vendors competing in the market, Plumtree`s support for portlet standards allows customers to use portlets on a wide range of J2EE- standard application servers.

      Financial Outlook

Plumtree Software currently anticipates fourth quarter 2003 revenue to be between $18.5 million and $19.3 million. On a pro forma basis, the company projects fourth quarter 2003 net income to be between $0.00 and $0.02 per share. Pro forma net earnings per share in our fourth quarter outlook excludes charges for amortization of deferred stock-based compensation estimated to be $350,000 and amortization of acquired technology of approximately $395,000, and assumes an effective tax rate of 30% to net income, if any. Giving effect to these exclusions, fourth quarter GAAP net income is currently expected to be between ($0.02) and $0.00 per share.

Condensed Consolidated Statements of Operations and Condensed Consolidated Balance Sheet

Plumtree`s management believes that a presentation of operating costs and expenses excluding restructuring charges incurred in the quarter, stock based compensation and amortization of acquired technology, and assuming a fixed effective tax rate, provides a meaningful basis for evaluating our underlying cost and expense levels. Presentation of pro forma net income and earnings per share information provides greater comparability of Plumtree`s financial results against historical results as well as those of other enterprise software companies and financial models of securities analysts. A reconciliation of pro forma results to GAAP results is provided in the financial tables below.
