RENO, Nev., Dec 02, 2003 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via Comtex/ -- Golden Phoenix Minerals, Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: GPXM) announced today that it has completed its first formal joint venture meeting with Gryphon Gold Corporation and the partners have agreed to the Phase One Exploration and Development Plan for the Borealis Mine in Mineral County, Nevada.
The time frame for the Phase 1 program is from July 2003 to March 2005 with the program budgeted at $1.5 million. The approved program is designed to support an initial gold production decision by March 2005.
Pending approval of drilling permits from the U.S. Forest Service, Gryphon Gold plans to begin further leach pad drilling in January 2004. These drilling results will provide additional data to optimize the design, engineering, construction and operation of the gold leaching facility, thereby providing cash flow to expand into the Phase Two mining of oxide ores.
Gryphon Gold has already been active with its Phase One plans, including staking of an additional 293 claims, application for water rights, permitting of the initial leach pad drilling program and preliminary design and engineering. A complete review of all historical geological, engineering and metallurgical data is also underway towards completion of a detailed Scoping Study to support the initial production decision.
"We are pleased with Gryphon`s aggressive approach to turning the Borealis project into a producing gold mine in the next 18 - 24 months. With Borealis in operation, our key goal to become a producer from multiple projects will be met," said Michael Fitzsimonds, President of Golden Phoenix Minerals.
Gryphon Gold Corporation is a private, Nevada incorporated company, headquartered in Denver, Colorado, with offices in Reno. Gryphon has agreed to spend $5 million to acquire a 50 percent interest in the Borealis property within four years and has an option to acquire an additional 20 percent by spending $4 million or completing a feasibility study based on a mineable reserve of 500,000 ounces of gold. The Borealis property has, as calculated by Golden Phoenix, a mineral inventory of 33.4 million tons averaging 0.044 ounces gold per ton for 1.45 million ounces of gold.
Golden Phoenix Minerals Inc. is a mineral-property development company headquartered in Reno, Nevada. It specializes in acquiring and consolidating large, advanced-stage properties with potential for near-term production and good resource development potential. Acquisition and development emphasis is on deposits containing gold, silver, copper and other strategic minerals that are located in Nevada. The Company has begun operating the Mineral Ridge gold mine in Esmeralda County, Nevada.
