28 July 2004, 09:12am ET
FT. MYERS, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 28, 2004--NeoMedia Technologies, Inc. (OTC BB:NEOM), said today that it has extended its PaperClick Mobile Go-Window(TM) product to the Pocket PC(R) ("Windows Mobile") environment for Web-enabled wireless devices.
The Mobile Go-Window is a horizontal text-entry bar on the screen of a cell phone, smartphone, PDA or other Web-enabled wireless device where users enter numeric strings from UPC or other bar codes to link directly to targeted online information via patented PaperClick(R) technology and software.
NeoMedia`s newest Go-Window product is compatible with devices running either Pocket PC 2002 or Pocket PC 2003 on Intel(R) and non-Intel processors designed by ARM, including the Dell(R) Axim(TM) family of PDA`s. The expanding PaperClick Mobile Go-Windows product line is also compatible with the popular Palm and Java operating environments. NeoMedia also supports the worldwide marketplace for SymbianOS(TM)-based devices with PaperClick for Camera Cell Phones(TM), which runs on Nokia(R) 3600, 3620, 3650, and 3660 phones.
Growing the Go-Window Product Line
"NeoMedia is very excited about our growing line of Go-Window products," said Charles T. Jensen, the company`s president, COO and acting CEO. "Adding the Pocket PC, an outgrowth of Microsoft`s Windows CE product entry in the palm-top operating world, represents a significant extension of the products we can now deliver to wireless carriers and to wireless device manufacturers.
"Today, mobile technology is a way of life for businesses and consumers," Jensen added. "People rely on this technology as never before, making ease-of-use and functionality of wireless devices more important than ever. Our PaperClick Mobile Go-Window helps meet this need for those on-the-go."

- 12snap mobile marketing-Kampagnen mit Hilfe von Paperclick starten will. Kunden sind u.a. Coce, McDonalds, Unilever, Proct.+Gamble.

Microsoft Says New Technology Will Be Key
Jul 29, 4:35 PM EDT
By ALLISON LINN
AP Business Writer
REDMOND, Wash. (AP) -- Microsoft Corp. may be best known for its dominant Windows product, but Thursday, Bill Gates touted software that`s far afield from your basic operating system.
How about software that can recognize a picture of a bar code taken with your cell phone, and provide you with product information? Or technology that can sort photos based on whether there`s a face in the picture, or whether the picture was taken outdoors?
Speaking at the company`s annual financial analysts conference, Gates and other Microsoft executives sought to convince investors that the company continues to have strong potential for growth - despite concerns that the markets for Windows and the Office business software are becoming saturated.
Gates, Microsoft`s chief software architect, showed off products that could provide new revenue in the long term, such as software that adds even more features to cell phones. But he also hoped to show that Microsoft has found new ways to make money off old standbys, such as a digital entertainment-focused Windows Media Center that builds off the standard Windows system.
Analyst Drew Brosseau of SG Cowen said Microsoft is trying to convince investors that there is plenty of revenue potential for Windows even though the next version of the operating system, dubbed Longhorn, may be as far as two years away.
"They`re trying to focus on growth opportunities before Longhorn (by) expanding the definition of what Windows is," Brosseau said.
Other Microsoft executives touted the new version of Office, perhaps responding to analysts` concerns that one of Microsoft`s biggest competitors is older versions of its own software.
The conference comes a little more than a week after Microsoft announced plans to return much of its $60 billion cash hoard to shareholders, through dividend payouts and a stock buyback program.
For several years, Microsoft`s stock has remained relatively stagnant at around $25 per share. During those years, Microsoft has performed well, but hasn`t beaten its competition as soundly as it once did.
That`s left the company searching for ways to cut costs - to the tune of about $1 billion in the current fiscal year - and create new revenue streams, to try to boost profitability.
Microsoft has long bragged about the billions it spends to develop new and potentially lucrative technology. On Thursday, Gates stressed the approximately 3,000 new patents the company will apply for in this fiscal year.
Microsoft also is counting on new talent to help it grow. The company said last week that it would hire 6,000 to 7,000 employees worldwide during this fiscal year, including new positions and replacements for people who have left. Microsoft had about 57,000 employees as of June 30.
Gates said Microsoft will continue to get much of its revenue and profitability from products for businesses. But he noted that consumers are much more likely to adopt new technology faster than businesses, because it is simply easier for a consumer to try a new product. That`s one reason the company also is investing heavily in consumer products, such as its MSN online division or Xbox game console.
However, Gates conceded that none of the company`s efforts will be successful if Microsoft does not create products that people actually want.
"One thing about innovation is we`ve got to make sure it maps to what the customer sees as value," he said.

Gates: Microsoft To Increase Patent Filing July 29, 2004
In annual meeting with financial analysts, Microsoft`s chairman puts the focus on R&D and intellectual property.
Microsoft will continue to ramp up its patent filing and intellectual-property licensing efforts, chairman and chief software architect Bill Gates said today in a meeting with financial analysts at the company`s Redmond, Wash., campus.
Microsoft plans to file more than 3,000 patents in fiscal 2005 compared with "something over" 2,000 patent filings the previous year, Gates said. The company`s planned "cycle of innovation" includes securing intellectual-property rights on Microsoft products and licensing that technology to other companies,
SIGNING LICENSE AGREEMENTS TO USE OTHER COMPANIES` SOFTWARE WITHIN MICROSOFT`S OWN PRODUCTS (das könnte mit Paperclick passieren,
and providing indemnification protection to customers. Gates said Microsoft is still in the early stages of its licensing program.
Businesses continue to adopt new products and technology at a slower pace than consumers, due to security, compatibility, and complexity issues, Gates said. To get businesses to upgrade, he added, "You`ve got to make the cost-benefit there very straightforward."
In a separate presentation, Will Poole, senior VP of Microsoft`s Windows client business, said Microsoft`s much-anticipated Windows XP Service Pack 2 upgrade is on track to ship in August. Poole said the security-focused operating system update will ship primarily via the Web.
As Microsoft looks for growth, it sees opportunity in selling PCs to consumers who don`t already have computers and, for those who do, in converting the large number of pirated copies of Windows into revenue-generating licenses. Microsoft estimates that about 60% of U.S. households have PCs and that in other parts of the world the percentages are significantly lower.
And Windows piracy isn`t just a problem in emerging markets. Poole estimated that 22% of the installed base of PCs in the United States run unlicensed versions of Windows. That translates into 12 million PCs. By comparison, in China, where the piracy rate is higher but the installed PC base is lower, about 13 million PCs run unlicensed versions of Windows.
Eric Rudder, senior VP of Microsoft`s server and tools business, laid out Microsoft`s server-product road map through the end of next year. In the second half of this year, Operations Manager 2005 and Virtual Server 2005 are due. Next year, the rollout will include a version of Windows Server 2003 designed for dual 32-bit, 64-bit processors, Windows Server 2003 Release 2, Visual Studio 2005, SQL Server 2005, and System Center 2005, which combines the functionality of System Management Server and Microsoft Operations Manager under one umbrella.
In addition, Microsoft plans to release next year a version of Windows Server 2003 for supercomputing-class applications. The company will tune its Visual Studio 2005 tools to work with the new Windows Server 2003 High-Performance Computing release, and it`s encouraging independent software vendors to write software for the platform based on the industry-standard Message Passing Interface.
Microsoft demonstrated for the first time a data-search engine in development that promises to scour both the Web and a PC`s hard drive for relevant matches. For example, it might find data inside an Excel spreadsheet that`s attached to an electronic message, as well as on a far-away Web server.
"People say, `What do you bring to the party?` It`s the ability to search what`s beyond the Web," said Yusuf Mehdi, corporate VP of MSN Information Services and Merchant Platform. Microsoft`s search engine is based on technology from Microsoft Research and the company`s Office and Longhorn development groups, and it has already indexed more than a billion documents. Mehdi declined to say when it will be ready.
CEO Steve Ballmer estimated that within four years 40% of Microsoft`s profits will be generated by the company`s emerging lines of business: enterprise applications, software for mobile devices, MSN, and home and entertainment.
The vendor might also enter entirely new lines of business, which could have a negative impact on profitability, Ballmer said.

"How about software that can recognize a picture of a bar code taken with your cell phone, and provide you with product information?"
Für MSFT ist dies ein Milliardenmarkt. Und für NEOM wohl gleich mit:
"SIGNING LICENSE AGREEMENTS TO USE OTHER COMPANIES` SOFTWARE WITHIN MICROSOFT`S OWN PRODUCTS ".

Killer camera phone application: barcodes and search
It`s not every day that you get to see a killer application for the first time. Today was such a day.
Chas Fritz, chairman of Neomedia Technologies and Diane Heiser, account manager, bought me lunch. No, that wasn`t the killer application. But it was pretty nice!
While munching on my hamburger (hey, I`m a cheap date) he pulled out his cell phone. Then he pulled out a deodorant product. He said something like " imagine you`re in a supermarket and you want to see if you`re getting the best price on something, like, say, this deodorant product." Then he aimed his camera phone (it was a standard old Nokia 3650, albeit with a plastic macro lens attached to it so it could do closeup shots) at the barcode on the back. He snapped a picture. Said " look at this, it`s connecting to our Web service." After a few seconds a Web page came back with a variety of information on the product and competitive pricing.
Now, this was obviously a bit of a mocked up demo, but it floored me. I hadn`t seen anyone actually demo such a thing. He did something similar with his business card (it has a barcode on it). Up came his personal web page (where`s your weblog Chas?)
He told me to imagine that every household item with barcode on it now is interactive. Imagine you`re a manufacturer. You can give interactive coupons to people to try to get them to switch to your product.
I started getting into it. Imagine you`re at a bus stop in Seattle. Did you know there`s a Web service that shows you where the next bus is located and how far away it is? At every bus stop there could be a bar code. You aim your camera at the bar code. Get back the Web service that`ll tell you how long you need to wait for your next bus.
Back to his demo. Then he pulled out " Smart Mobs," the famous book by Howard Rheingold. He pointed his cell phone at the bar code on the back. The retail price was $29.95. His Web service went and found a better price on Amazon (and he would be able to order the book easily without keying in any information).
So, why was Chas pitching me on this? Because his company, he says, owns patents for putting barcodes to use in searching the Web for information. Putting cell phone users in touch with companies directly. Imagine playing a Coca Cola game online. Point your phone at a can of Coke and the Web service would tell you whether or not you won. And, of course, would happily email you some coupons for your next Coke purchase.
By the way, thanks to Scott Shafer for setting up the lunch and being persistent in getting me to see this demo. Interesting stuff!

Tour around Microsoft Research

Hi titin.
Genau!

-------------------------------------
Charles T. Jensen, president, COO and acting CEO of NeoMedia, said a Letter of Intent has been signed outlining terms, including an exchange of one share of NeoMedia common stock for each share of BSD Software, not to exceed 40 million shares. The transaction, he said, is dependent on due diligence by both companies, approval by NeoMedia`s Board of Directors, BSD Software`s Board of Directors, shareholders, required regulatory approvals and other conditions
--------------------------------------
MFG und schönes WE!

AirClic status hearing
the previously scheduled 7/29 status hearing was rescheduled (as of Friday 7/23), to 9/10.
believe the motion has now gone through to consolidate both cases
together (A/C v. NEOM and NEOM v. A/C)

http://www.usatoday.com/tech/techinvestor/techcorporatenews/…

MSFT`s Aura Project
"New Mouse to Click on the World
The world is now a web page. Everything is worth clicking on. Smith asked, "If everything has a machine readable tag, why not read it? Why not let everybody annotate everything?" A cell phone and a pocket PC are the new mice. The Microsoft Research Aura project is designed to take advantage of the "kerjillian barcoded objects that give off data." Suppose that you add a barcode to the label for artwork at a museum or gallery. Then your device would read the artist`s name off of the barcode and you could do a web search that was composed of the artist`s name and the word "artist."
You can take Aura shopping with you. Whether your supermarket has WiFi, or a cell network is available, you can scan products and do various web searches for more information. Smith showed a shopper scanning Cracklin` Oat Bran. The top result of the Google search was information about a California recall based on the label not reporting that the cereal contains milk, eggs, or almonds.
The Aura Blog annotation repository will be public in a few weeks. You can annotate anything you can scan by building a trusted authority on a particular topic. For example, imagine you are in the process of buying a pair of trousers. The annotation might show you the working conditions under which these trousers were made and ask if you would like to see a pair made under better conditions even if they cost you $8 more. The combination of the barcode reader and an Internet full of rich data leads to an informed buying public like never before."

Hallo liebe NEOM "Gemeinde",
Neom News kommen übrigens meistens 14.30(dt.Zeit)...genügend Zeit also, den Amis "vorwegzukaufen"..
Good luck!!!!

[DLXYJMX] NeoMedia Micro Paint Signs Distribution Agreement for Products and Systems With
Buying Consortium
for New Car Franchised Dealers in Western Canada
Business Editors/High-Tech Writers
FORT MYERS, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 2, 2004--NeoMedia
Technologies, Inc. (OTC BB: NEOM), said today that its Micro Paint
Repair Systems business unit has signed a distribution agreement with
MDA Co-Auto Ltd., the largest buying consortium for new car franchised
dealers in Western Canada.
The agreement, which runs through 2006, provides exclusive rights
to MDA (Motor Dealer`s Association) Co-Auto, and would generate a
minimum of $2 million to NeoMedia if the minimum sales target is
achieved. Based in Edmonton, MDA Co-Auto has 1,050 member dealers in
British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and the Yukon, who
are franchised dealers for virtually all cars, including Ford(R),
General Motors(R), Chrysler(R), Honda(R), Toyota(R), BMW(R),
Volkswagen(R) and Audi(R).
`Targeting the Worldwide Auto Aftermarket`
"NeoMedia Micro Paint is targeting the worldwide auto
aftermarket," said Art Gilfus, the company`s vice president of Global
Sales. "Here, for example, MDA Co-Auto will private-label our products
and system for sale to its member dealers, who should then be able to
quickly and efficiently repair paint on new cars damaged in transport,
trade in or leased vehicles and cars brought in by customers.
"NeoMedia is also actively marketing to stand-alone body and
repair shops, auto glass specialists, and entrepreneurially-driven
businesses which want to add to or create a new profit center," he
said.
This is the second major distribution agreement for NeoMedia Micro
Paint in recent months. In June it took a major step toward worldwide
expansion by contracting with Micro Paint Systems (Australasia)
Limited of New Zealand to be its exclusive distribution for products
and systems there and in Australia. Contingent on minimum sales
targets being met, that agreement could produce approximately $23
million in revenue to NeoMedia over the next five years.
New Paint System Can Boost Dealer Profits
Mike Reid, president of MDA Co-Auto, said his group "does
everything we can to help our member dealers get a handle on costs,
and, when possible, create new profits. That`s where NeoMedia Micro
Paint Repair Systems can really help. Now member dealers should be
able to grow the repair side of their businesses," he said. "Micro
paint repair can help them retain existing customers while gaining
incremental revenues from new customers who bring their cars to the
dealerships."
While only about one-third of MDA Co-Auto`s member dealers

currently have body and repair shows, Reid said that all 1,050 have
service areas. "Because NeoMedia`s Micro Paint Repair System does not
require special drying or baking areas and is environmentally safe,"
said Reid, "these dealers can start offering micro paint repair as
soon as their personnel are trained."
Reid said MDA Co-Auto works with similar member dealer-owned
buying consortiums in Canada and the U.S. and that "we all learn from
one another. As we roll-out in September, we know they`ll be watching
our progress carefully on behalf of their members," he said.
Repairs in Less Than an Hour
The proprietary NeoMedia Micro Paint Repair System uses a chemical
adhesion rather than old-fashioned mechanical adhesion, and completes
undetectable repairs of scratches, scrapes and blemishes on vehicles
in a fraction of the traditional time . . . usually less than an hour.
"This incredibly quick turnaround lets shops work on many more cars a
day," said Gilfus. "In MDA Co-Auto`s case, dealers should be able to
show increases in margins and profits while satisfied customers can
drive away in their perfectly-repaired cars rather than lose use of
them for one, two or even three days."
With the NeoMedia System, the area to be repaired is isolated,
without extensive and time-consuming masking or costly removal of
panels or parts, much like arthroscopic surgery, which allows repair
of injuries to humans in a far-less-invasive manner. Scratches down to
bare metal, oxidized paint - even high metallic, pearl and tri-coat
finishes - can all be corrected with NeoMedia`s products and process,
which employs proprietary technology and safe materials, totally free
from harmful isocyanates.

[DLXYJMX] NeoMedia Micro Paint Signs Distribution Agreement for Products and Systems With
currently have body and repair shows, Reid said that all 1,050 have
service areas.

Subject: A Microsoft takeover target?
From: TobySmith@changewave.com
======================
Dear WaveRider,
Do you have some risk capital you`d like to put to work...
...where just a couple thousand bucks could mean $75,000-$100,000 in
profits OR MORE?
Obviously, there`s some risk to this play. It`s a young company
trying to make a big move up. So this stock is NOT for weak-hitters
or crybabies.
But if you`re a serious growth investor, you stand to reap truly
life-changing profits from this one.
In fact, this company has pioneered a technology space where
Microsoft wants to be the kingpin. And every path into this space
already makes broad use of this firm`s intellectual property --
their technology is referenced in other patents an incredible 73
times!
This is a fantastic investment opportunity in its own right. But
most evidence also points to an eventual takeover by Microsoft or
Verizon -- the only question in my mind is "What price?"
And I know it would be higher -- much, much higher -- from here.
After all, this tiny company just may hold the winning cards in the
high-stakes game of mobile commerce.
It controls several broad patents and its unique "PaperClick"
technology -- likely to reap windfall profits from all the big
players in the PDA cell phone business,
=================
The power of Microsoft
=================
For some time now, we`ve been saying that Longhorn, the next
Microsoft operating system, HAS to come up with some new killer apps
to keep the ball rolling toward an integrated phone, PDA and desktop
computer.
Well, the guys at Microsoft AIN`T dummies -- they know that, too.
And now, we`ve read a very unique glimpse of what Softie insiders
think about this little company and its technology. Robert Scoble is
one of the very top guys in Redmond and a "Technical Evangelist" for
platform strategy at MSFT. Here`s a snippet from his blog titled
"Killer camera phone application: barcodes and search":
"It`s not every day that you get to see a killer application for the
first time. Today was such a day.
"(the Chairman of our little company) pulled out his cell phone.
Then he pulled out a deodorant product. He said something like
`imagine you`re in a supermarket and you want to see if you`re
getting the best price on something, like, say, this deodorant
product.` Then he aimed his camera phone ... at the barcode on the
back. He snapped a picture. Said `look at this, it`s connecting to
our Web service.` After a few seconds a Web page came back with a
variety of information on the product and competitive pricing.
"Now, this was obviously a bit of a mocked-up demo, but it floored
me. I hadn`t seen anyone actually demo such a thing. He did
something similar with his business card (it has a barcode on it).
Up came his personal web page ...
"He told me to imagine that every household item with (a) barcode on
it now is interactive. Imagine you`re a manufacturer. You can give
interactive coupons to people to try to get them to switch to your
product
"I started getting into it. Imagine you`re at a bus stop in Seattle.
Did you know there`s a Web service that shows you where the next bus
is located and how far away it is? At every bus stop there could be
a bar code. You aim your camera at the bar code. Get back the Web
service that`ll tell you how long you need to wait for your next
bus."
OK, my friend -- Scoble gets the power of using bar codes to go
DIRECTLY to information you want NOW to help you make better
decisions as a consumer. And if Scoble gets it, Microsoft gets it.
If MSFT gets it -- you can now conclude that this firm`s PaperClick
functionality is now on the verge of its big breakout.
We believe there`s a good probability that Microsoft and Palm will
integrate PaperClick into their operating systems. They`d be fools
not to.
Got a little risk capital burning a hole in your pocket? If this
works out as we expect, you`ll make a fortune.
===============
Meet the "Prosumer"
===============
That`s our name for the new consumer, who uses the Internet to shop
and gather information -- it`s the fastest growing mass-market
segment in the world, according to a market strategist at Procter &
Gamble.
And P&G -- with 16,000 barcodes -- takes this 20-million strong (and
mushrooming) market very, very seriously.
So ain`t it good to know that our little company is the key link to
the Prosumer market. What`s more, using directed search is most
cost effective market to reach them thanks to pay-for-performance
Internet search.
And that, my friend, is the killer application of PaperClick --
direct access to the Prosumer market WITHOUT going through the
search engine multi-click environment.
Up to now, the only stumbling block to getting this bar code service
to market has been the need for zoom lenses on cell phones. But
now, that massive ChangeWave is happening, too.
Our research shows that 50% of cell phones with cameras will have
zoom functions next year, while the other 50% will come by 2006.
EVERY phone maker has upgrade plans to zoom lenses -- it would be
suicide not to upgrade to match their competitors.
That`s why we believe Microsoft`s new cell phone operating system,
called Aura, will HAVE to license this company`s patents. The rest
will follow -- and then the barcode URL domain rush begins like the
one we had with URLs for the World Wide Web.
Remember Network Solutions, who operated the Internet domain
registration system?
They were owned by SAIC -- a billion-dollar, privately held
technology company, which later sold Network Solutions to VeriSign
for $12 BILLION.
Well, guess what? We think SAIC and our little company are working
together to form the NEXT Network Solutions -- a place where you can
register your bar codes to connect to a URL you own.
And this keyword ownership business is THE REASON to own as much of
this stock as you can.
Here`s how it will work. Take the word "ChangeWave." We own the
trademark which we will register with this new registration entity,
so that any time you see our logo in print you can scan the barcode
to go to our specially designed site.
ALL consumer marketing companies with half a brain will want to do
the same. Why? Simple--because owning barcode URLs takes you, the
consumer, exactly where the marketer wants. NOT to Google or some
other search site that has 10-12 different options.
This is a HUGE advantage for marketers.
As to consumers, it makes searching -- and getting exactly where you
want to go -- quick and easy. Local Internet search will fast
become the holy grail of using your phone, PDA or Blackberry-type
device. It`ll make the Yellow Pages obsolete and end wasted time on
the phone or endless clicking on the Web.
You say, "Nearest paint store." You say, "Highest rated golf
course"...
...and you go right to the data you want -- and then use voice or
Internet to complete the transaction.
If you`re a serious growth investor -- with risk capital you can
afford to lose if this doesn`t work out -- you simply must get a
piece of this action:
I can`t guarantee your profits on this pick. It`s a fledgling
company that still faces a number of obstacles. That`s the name of
the game when you`re owing home-run capable microcaps.
But I can guarantee you`ll enjoy your overall ride, or I`ll give you
all your money back.
P.S. This is NOT an overnight get-rich-quick scheme. Microcaps
aren`t far-off from start-up status. And they can take a couple of
years to payoff. But a little patience is often well-rewarded.
Imagine this:
You buy 20,000 shares in a $1.50 stock that our research shows owns
key proprietary technology in a huge ChangeWave. The stock does
little for a while, testing your patience with its sloppy action.
Then one day, it really starts moving, as the ChangeWave begins to
crest. Maybe it even gets bought out by Microsoft or Intel. And
suddenly your $30,000 investment is worth a quarter-million or more!

"If mobile texting (sms) is DOS then PaperClick is Windows! We truly believe that PaperClick has the potential to be bigger than texting."
http://www.biggigstrategies.com/4709/6559.html

also,spannende Tage vor uns...?????

Hallo,
5,6 Mio schon gekauft heute.

Dear Sir,
AS the CEO of NeoMedia I am more excited about the company now then I
have ever been. You need to watch for our public fillings and press
releases as we go forward.
Best regards,
Chuck Jensen
Meinungen...??

titin, wenigstens ein positives Lebeszeichen von Neom. Danke fürs Weiterleiten.
Sicherlich kein leeres Gerede.
Was glaubt ihr?:
With acquisition of BSDS we kill two birds with one stone IMO. On the one hand Neom generates revenue and on the other hand BSDS/Triton offers billing solutions for shopping/icouponing via Paperclick.
From the Paperclick website: "Turn your customers` phone into a profit center! Revenue sharing with retailers from Internet purchases could generate big, no-effort profits for your business. And with AUTOMATIC BILL PAYMENT, your customers can complete the entire process in seconds."
Neom intends to offer a broad service around Paperclick. And they need a little more time to build up the Paperclick world. Remember CF`s words: "We are in for the long haul".

Presseartikel zu Neom von heute:
Fort Myers software company switches gears into paint business
NeoMedia officials say this new venture will help raise the money needed to market a new Internet product which links physical objects to the Internet
By LAURA LAYDEN, lllayden@naplesnews.com
August 12, 2004
NeoMedia Technologies Inc. had a one-track mind.
But not anymore.
The Fort Myers-based software development company has dipped its feet into the paint business.
While it may seem like a stretch for NeoMedia, company officials say this new venture will help raise the money needed to market its original product called "PaperClick," which links physical objects to the Internet. Using the technology, a bar code on a can of soda can be scanned with a special pen and then used to pull up the beverage maker`s Web site, for example.
NeoMedia has worked to perfect and market the Internet technology since the company was founded in 1989.
But bringing the technology to market has been slow going.
"We have the patents," said Charles Jensen, the company`s president, chief operating officer and acting chief executive officer. "We have the software. We are not penetrating the market."
That means it`s tough to make money to pay for operations.
Enter the paint business.
On Feb. 6, NeoMedia acquired 13-year-old CSI International Inc. in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. CSI developed its own Micro Paint Repair System for fixing small scratches and chips on automobiles finishes.
NeoMedia hopes to take the "pioneering" technology nationwide. The company`s proprietary system is billed as a quicker and less expensive way to make paint repairs.
When the acquisition of CSI was completed earlier this year, Jensen called it "a great day and the beginning of an exciting chapter for NeoMedia and our shareholders."
In the deal, NeoMedia, a publicly traded company, exchanged 7 million shares of its stock and $2.5 million cash for all of the outstanding shares in CSI, a private company.
NeoMedia`s investment has already begun to reap rewards.
— On June 1, NeoMedia announced that it had signed a distribution agreement with Micro Paint Systems (Australasia) Limited of New Zealand. The agreement is for exclusive distribution rights to NeoMedia`s paint repair products in Australia and New Zealand, contingent on a minimum purchase of 500 systems over five years, which would generate approximately $23 million in revenue to NeoMedia.
— On Aug. 2, NeoMedia announced that it had signed an agreement with MDA Co-Auto Ltd., a large buying consortium for new car franchised dealers in Western Canada, that could generate more than $2 million for NeoMedia. MDA wants to sell the micro paint products and system to its member dealers, who could then make quick repairs on new cars damaged in transport.
NeoMedia is marketing the repair products and system to many types of businesses, including body and repair shops, auto glass specialists and auto parts stores. Company officials say they can see entrepreneurs building businesses around the system because it`s so effective and innovative.
Repairs can be made in less than an hour, using a chemical adhesion that makes the repairs permanent, Jensen said. This is a technology "that no one else in the world has," he said.
The repair system does not use isocyanates that are harmful to the environment, Jensen said. That means repairs don`t have to be done in paint booths with huge exhaust fans and workers applying the product don`t have to wear special breathing equipment. "That`s why it`s awesome — and it`s so fast," he said.
Jensen said the base paint for the product comes from DuPont. He said a color-coded system is used to match the paint on vehicles exactly. But he`ll say little else.
"It`s a secret formula," he said. "It`s like Coca-Cola has a secret formula. We have it locked in a safe in a lawyer`s office in Calgary and only two people know what it is."
NeoMedia has created a new company to market the repair system. It`s called NeoMedia Micro Paint Repair Inc. and it operates as a subsidiary of its parent company in Calgary. Stanton Hill, CSI`s former CEO, is in charge of the day-to-day operations in Canada.
In Fort Myers, Art Gilfus serves as vice president of global sales for NeoMedia`s new micro paint company. He joined the company about a month ago after seeing how the repair technology worked for himself.
"I went and saw it and I said, `Wow this is cool. We can sell this I`m sure,`" Gilfus said.
He said he scratched initials on the side of a car with screwdriver and then watched in amazement as it was repaired in about 35 minutes. He said the repair was flawless and that using traditional ways to repair it would have taken several hours.
"Repairs can be done at a lower total cost because they don`t take as long," Gilfus said. "We have the potential to change the landscape of how vehicles with paint damage are repaired and that is really not an understatement."
NeoMedia plans to open a corporate-owned micro paint retail center in Fort Myers. It will serve as a base for U.S. sales and training. Demonstrations will be conducted at the center, and it will eventually serve local customers in need of repairs.
A similar center is located in Canada.
NeoMedia hopes to sign licensing agreements with business owners across the country. They would be buying the rights to use the products, the training and all the product ingredients, Gilfus explained.
If all goes as planned, Jensen said NeoMedia should come out a much stronger company. He hopes to see the company`s PaperClick technology take off soon.
With the introduction of cell phones that can take pictures, he thinks NeoMedia will finally get the break it needs for PaperClick.
The company is hoping to reach agreements with telecommunications giants, such as Verizon and Sprint, to incorporate the technology in camera phones. With the technology, customers could take a picture of a bar code on a product and then be linked directly to a Web site with more information, for example.
Earlier this year, NeoMedia entered into an agreement with London-based iCoupon Ltd. to develop a state-of-the-art electronic coupon program for consumers in Europe. Once a coupon is delivered electronically to the camera phone`s screen, the consumer will be able to bring the phone to a retailer, where it can be scanned through a bar code reader.
Jensen said the mobile phone companies are excited about NeoMedia`s technology. But it can take anywhere from 12 to 18 months for them to introduce a new product.
Also, NeoMedia has to sell its PaperClick technology to what Jensen calls "brand managers," those companies that control the name for such products as Coca-Cola and Pepsi. He said the ones he`s talked to are excited about the prospects.
"They are ready to do it now," he said. "They love it."
NeoMedia trades on the Over-the-Counter Bulletin Board under the symbol NEOM. It`s shares closed down slightly Wednesday at 7 cents a share.
-----------

BSD SOFTWARE, INC. On December 9, 2003, NeoMedia signed a non-binding letter of intent to acquire Triton Global Business Services Inc. and its parent company, BSD Software Inc. (Pink Sheets: BSDS), both of Calgary, Alberta, Canada. The LOI outlined terms, including an exchange of one share of NeoMedia common stock for each share of BSD Software, not to exceed 40 million shares. The transaction is dependent on due diligence by both companies, approval by NeoMedia`s Board of Directors, BSD Software`s Board of Directors and shareholders, and any required regulatory approvals. Triton, formed in 1998 and acquired by BSD in 2002, is an
Internet Protocol-enabled provider of live and automated operator calling services, e-business support, billing and clearinghouse functions and information management services to telecommunications, Internet and e-business service providers. The companies are currently completing their due diligence.
"Instead of limiting the user to the computer for info, you can now go to the physical world and retrieve data. Imagine every Sony Camcorder, in every retail store is in a sense a keyword now. If Sony was willing to register all 10,000 products to just direct a pc user to their site, how much would they pay “turn on” every one of those 10,000 products in the world? How much is this worth?? Instead of being limited to retrieving this info from a MSFT browser, every cellphone now becomes a portable dynamic information retriever..
What will happen is …PRODUCTS/OBJECTS CONTROL THE BROWSER, not browser control the products/objects ..Think about that, marketing guys will have a field day with this. What brand manager wont register their brandname or Trade Mark to have this power.

Typisch OTC Wert.
