BUSINESS DESCRIPTION

We are a pioneer in the new field of industrial genomics. Industrial genomics is the large scale commercial use of the knowledge of DNA variations for improving health, agriculture and livestock. These variations are the origin of most differences between individuals, including disease predispositions and variations in drug responses. The most common variations are called SNPs. We believe that SNP analysis, called SNP genotyping, will play an essential role in the development of drugs, diagnostics and other life science applications in the immediate future. Our goal is to be the leader in the commercialization of industrial-scale SNP analysis. We have developed the MassArray system, a highly accurate, cost-effective and scalable technology that is capable of high throughput SNP analysis at high speeds. Our strategy is to capitalize on the quickly emerging demand for SNP genotyping in the areas of drug discovery and development, DNA diagnostics, patient stratification in clinical trials, seed development and livestock breeding. Six beta site centers, including several academic and governmental sites, diagnostic laboratories and a leading biotechnology company, are using our MassArray system and assessing its performance in the field

For general corporate purposes, including hiring additional sales and customer support personnel, expansion of our facilities, continued development and manufacturing of existing products, research and development of additional products, patent prosecution expenses, working capital and potential acquisitions of products, technologies or companies and repayment of long term debt and accrued interest of approximately $4.2 million.

In the SNP genotyping marketplace, MassArray competes with alternative technology concepts which differ in the areas of sample amplification, analysis process, sample separation or SNP detection and are all based on indirect detection of the molecule hybridization and/or labeling. Such technologies include: . Gel-based fluorescent sequencing as offered by PE Corporation, Amersham Pharmacia Biotech, Visible Genetics, Inc. and others and primarily developed for DNA analysis, such as DNA sequencing; . Single base primer extensions and colormetric detection offered by the genetic bit analysis of Orchid Biocomputer Inc.; . Fluorescence resonance energy transfer, or FRET, offering real-time PCR- based fluorescent detection and incorporated in PE Corporation`s TaqMan product line; . Invader and Invader Squared SNP detection, an alternative linear amplification technology including structure-based hybridization and enzyme cleavage developed by Third Wave Technologies, Inc.; . Hybridization methods, such as those used by Affymetrix, Inc., Hyseq, Inc., Nanogen, Inc., Protogene Laboratories Inc. and others with miniaturized chip formats and those offered by Genometrix in microtiter plate arrays; and . FOCUS-Sequenom soars after IPO amid genomics buzz

NEW YORK, Feb 1 (Reuters) - Industrial genomics company Sequenom Inc. burst on the scene Tuesday after its $26 a share initial public offering, with a more than 200 percent gain as investors rushed to buy the newest genomics issue.

San Diego-based Sequenom raised $130 million after pricing 5 million shares at $26 above its upwardly revised price range -- more than its original expectations of $90 million. Warburg Dillon Read was the lead underwriter.

Shares of the industrial geonomics bioengineering company were last up 60-3/8, or 234 percent, at 86-3/8 on the Nasdaq.

Genomics is characterized as a fast-growing field of research that uses fast computers to crunch large amounts of data and solve the mysteries of the human genetic code.

Biotech and genomic bioengineering stocks have been strong performers as the sector emerges as one of those to watch due to the recent breakthroughs in the human genomic mapping project and the new advances in science.

The debut was "not surprising. Everyone seems to have heard the new buzz that genomics is the hottest area," said Peony Kao, an analyst at Renaissance Capital`s IPO Plus Aftermarket Fund . "Many investors (are) excited about this area."

She added that news is now supporting the fact that the information gained from genomics can be used for applications to create drugs, chemicals and agricultural products.

Sequenom has developed a MassArray system, a technology capable of high-throughput single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNP), which represents the smallest possible genetic change analysis at high speeds.

"They have technology in the area of SNP scoring, which is a very hot area," said Carl Gorden, an analyst at ORBIMED Advisers, adding that the issue was riding on the recent enthusiasm for genomics issues.

Unlike many genomics firms that aim to cure medical and human health concerns, Sequenom is focused on industrial genomics, which is the large-scale commercial use of DNA knowledge for livestock and agriculture.

Competitors include Affymetrix Inc. and PE Corp. .

die Nase vorn. Mit der Inbetriebname eines gewaltigen
Rechenzentrums von Blackstone Technology
(http://www.btgp.com) können jetzt angeblich 65000 Analysen
in 15 Stunden erstellt werden.
Auch Affymetrix (35 % Anteil Glaxo-Wellcome) hat Interessantes
in der Erforschung von Krebszellen (GeneChip G 110 - Human Cancer)
zu vermelden.
Herauszufinden, wer von den Genom-frontrunnern sich nun die dicksten
Claims abstecken wird ist für einen Laien nicht mal zu erahnen.
Aber vielleicht stellt hier im Board mal ein "Experte" seine
Einschätzung vor...?

gelistet wäre könnte man es ja vielleicht noch wagen,
denn hier wird ja gekauft wie blöde, wenn irgendwo die
Worte Biotech und Genomanalyse draufstehen. Aber - siehe
"FANTASTIC" - man weiß ja nie ...

seit dem 13.02. ist ja schon wieder einiges passiert. SQNM hat es ganz ordentlich verbröselt. Das sind doch absolute Einsteigerpreise - findet Ihr nicht???

In USA haben sie ja wieder in den grünen Bereich gedreht.

Was meinst Du Konradi??? Kaufen???

Inwiefern wären die von einer Gesetzesänderung (ala Blair und Clinton) denn betroffen???
