NEW YORK, Dec 9 (Reuters) - Chinese hotel and air ticketing company Ctrip.com International (Nasdaq:CTRP - News) booked a place in initial public offering legend on Tuesday, ending its debut on the public market as the highest first-day gainer in New York in three years.
During afternoon trading on the Nasdaq market, the stock reached a high of $37.35, more than 108 percent over the initial public offering price of $18, which was set on Monday night. It eased back later to close at $33.94, still 88.56 percent ahead.
It was the highest debut on the market since Transmeta Corp. (NasdaqNM:TMTA - News) doubled its IPO price and closed 115 percent ahead on its first day of trading on Nov. 6, 2000.
Shanghai-based Ctrip said it raised $75.6 million from the IPO, which was a prelude to a much bigger Chinese offering this week -- the $2.6 billion IPO of China Life Insurance Co. Ltd. (NYSE:LFC - News)
"Look at the possibilities. Ctrip is trying to be the Expedia of China," said Sal Morreale, who tracks IPOs for Cantor Fitzgerald in Los Angeles.
He said Ctrip and the upcoming China Life IPO "show the economy is right there (in China) to do these deals."
"I am not surprised, the dot-coms are back," said John Fitzgibbon, editor of the IPO monitor 123jump.com.
"It (Ctrip) hasn`t been around too long, but its revenues are soaring and it`s profitable," he said, noting also that it comes three days before the China Life deal is expected to light up the market.
Set up in 1999, Ctrip is a consolidator of hotel rooms and airline tickets in China, and acts as an agent for transactions.
China is among the fastest-growing airline markets. Its three biggest carriers own a 35 percent stake in reservations booking software firm TravelSky Technology Ltd (HKSE:0696.HK - News), which is also 22 percent owned by the Chinese government.
In a sign of intense market interest in Chinese companies, Ctrip`s IPO price of $18 for each American Depositary Share was at the top of the $16 to $18 preliminary range, which itself had been increased from a range of $14 to $16.
Ctrip sold 4.2 million ADSs for the listing, including 1.5 million ADSs sold by its shareholders. The company plans to use proceeds from the IPO for sales and marketing, working capital, and potential acquisitions.
Merrill Lynch was the bookrunner for the deal and Ctrip may have to issue up to an additional 500,000 ADSs under an overallotment option in the IPO.

ich bin auch sehr von den Zukunftschancen von Intac überzeugt, mich wundert es aber, dass eine solche Steigerung des Handelsvolumens, wie man sie heute beobachten kann, nicht zu einer nachhaltigen Kurssteigerung führt. Solche Blocktrades wie vor 20 Minuten mit einem Volumen von 10.000 und 13.400 Stück bewegen den Kurs überhaupt nicht nach oben. Dies bedeutet, dass auch eine Fülle an Verkaufswilligen am Markt ist, die bereit ist bei diesen Kursen ihre Bestände zu verkaufen.
Woran liegt das, wenn die Zukunfsaussichten doch so rosig sein sollen?

A computer is making these trades. I have seen this before in very thin stocks. It is a method that large players use to accumulat large blks of shares without disrupting the market in thin stocks. those of us who hold this thing may well see a big dramatic run up within the next year or so."
Diese Überlegung finde ich nicht abwegig. Darüber hinaus sind auch immer Informationsgefälle bei den Marktteilnehmern vorhanden.

Die Aktien vor INTAC waren vor der aquistion durch Mr. Zhou einer Minengesellschaft zugeordnet.
Damaliger Kurs unter 1 Euro.
Da dürften sich noch die letzten Altaktionäre verabschieden.
Bei einer Verzehnfachung garnicht zu so abwegig.
Wenn erstmal alle Alt-Bestände in festen Händen sind, dann
wird es kein Halten mehr geben. Das wird es ohnehin nicht, wenn
neue Grossaktionäre kommen werden - und das ist so sicher wie das Amen in der Kirche!
Wer in Zukunft Geld verdienen will, der muss ins Internet investieren. Logo.
