SBC Communications` (SBC:NYSE - news - boards) Southwestern Bell Mobile Systems unit chose Anglo-French software and services company Sema Group PLC for its short-messaging service. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. SBC Communications lifted 9/16 to 42 5/8.
Sema`s short-messaging service center and other services will allow SBC customers to send and receive text messages over their phones.
Sema`s managing director told a Credit Suisse First Boston technology conference in Barcelona that the company hoped to be listed on the Nasdaq Composite Index by July or August in order to boost its U.S. presence. The company signed an e-commerce alliance with Lucent Technologies` (LU:NYSE - news - boards) spin-off New Enterprise group in April, and bought German-American software house LHS Group (LHSG:Nasdaq - news - boards) for $4.7 billion in shares in March. Lucent advanced 3 1/2, or 6.7%, to 56 while LHS Group climbed 1 to 31.

LONDON (Reuters) - Anglo-French software and services company Sema Group Plc (SEMP.PA) said on Friday that SBC Communications Inc. (NYSE:SBC - news), the No. 1 U.S. local telephone company, had chosen its short-messaging service.
Southwestern Bell Mobile Systems, a U.S.-based unit of SBC, has chosen Sema`s Short Message Service Centre (SMSC) and Over-The-Air activation and Programming solution. Sema`s programs will allow SBC customers to send and receive text messages over their phones.
A Sema spokeswoman declined to comment on the value of the SBC contract.
Sema Managing Director Gianni Linari told a Credit Suisse First Boston (CSFB) technology conference in Barcelona on May 15 that the group was set to announce a ``big contract`` from one of America`s biggest telecoms operators.

Sema has completed a number of deals in the last couple of months to increase its U.S. market presence.

Tidu Maini, Sema senior executive vice president, told the CSFB conference that the company was still looking for a big U.S. acquisition, which he said could come before the end of the 2001 deadline Sema was aiming for.
Sema shares rose by 0.5 percent, or 4p, to 835p in London morning trading. The stock has outperformed the FTSE All Share Software & Computer Services Index by about two percent so far this year. It has underperformed the broader FTSE All Share Index by 18.3 percent over the same period.

SEMA eröffnete heute in London mit 1137 (ca +14%), um dann kurze Zeit später bei unter 1000 zu stehen, was steckt dahinter?? Volumen war sehr niedrig!!
