Dave Haynie elaborating:

"- - - Without going into detail, Phoenix is a followup to today`s Met@box, but with more of the architecture under our control, and no "x86 tax". This is not necessarily ever going to be of interest on the desktop to people waiting for SMP Ones. On the other hand, it has application in the Amiga community.“

Stefan Domeyer was also kind enough to answer a number of questions that I sent him:

Q: You mention a project codenamed "Phoenix". Could you elaborate on this?

A: It is an absolutely different system.
The basic design idea was to make a platform for the Internet, as affordable as possible. Making this, we learned that it´s a small step only to make it work as a desktop, and we have more horsepower than any Amiga you can buy

Q: You discuss a "step-by-step" approach for Phoenix, which includes shipping developer Phoenix systems first.

A: The PHOENIX is easier to build and cost much less, so it will be earlier

Q: Can you give an estimate on how soon these developer systems could ship? (Anmerkung: Betonung auf developer!!)

A: Summer 99.

Erklärung zum Weihnachtsgeschenk,

Letztes Jahr um diese Zeit war die erste Welle um Metabox. Wie schon alle mitbekommen haben war die Umsetzung nicht so sehr gelungen. Es kannte auch fast niemand Metabox. Dieses Jahr sieht das etwas anders aus. Die Firma ist/war schon genug in den Schlagzeilen - in letzter Zeit leider etwas negativ (Da die Zocker den Kurs zu sehr in die Höhe trieben und die Erwartungshaltung zu früh und zu hoch war). Dazu kam noch die von Gigaguru gestartete Abrechnungs/Aufklärungskampagne die Metabox im Schatten von Infomatec abstürzen liess. Trotz allem hat Metabox sehr viel Potential.
Die Entwicklung Ihrer eigenen Metaboxen reift nun schon das 2. oder 3. Jahr. Es gab bestimmt etwas Aufruhr und eine Neuausrichtung am Anfang dieses Jahres wegen der Amiga-Übernahme (Entwickler, Patente, Lizenzen,...). Jedoch bin ich sehr sicher dass da etwas heranreift - man muß wie überall warten bis die Zeit und das Produkt reif ist, reif um positive Schlagzeilen zu machen.

PS: Es hilft keinem deutschen Unternehmen - und dazu zähle ich MBX - wenn man als (Nicht-)Patriot übers Ziel hinausschießt und den CEO beleidigt, persönlich angreift, Lügen über Ihn verbreitet ...

Ich hoffe dass ein paar die Chance erkennen, dass wieder eine Firma aus Deutschland ein hervorragendes Produkt in der (bildlich)Röhre hat.
