Novatel Wireless Launches First Wireless PC Card for Metricom`s Ricochet 128 kbps Network

Novatel Wireless, Inc. (Nasdaq:NVTL), a provider of wireless data communications access solutions, today announced that its Merlin(TM) Wireless PC Card Modem received certification for Metricom, Inc.`s (Nasdaq:MCOM) Ricochet 128 kbps wireless mobile access network. The Merlin for Ricochet(TM) began shipping to Novatel Wireless distributors this week. The Merlin for Ricochet is a Type II PC Card that takes advantage of Ricochet technology to provide wireless data communications at end-user speeds of 128 kbps.

The Merlin for Ricochet connects to the high-speed Ricochet network, which offers wireless access to the complete Internet, private intranets, local-area networks, email, and other online services. The modem has a robust removable antenna enabling maximum network connectivity with the highest mobile wireless data throughput available. The Merlin for Ricochet has a Type II PC Card interface, is compatible with Windows(R) 98/NT/2000/Pocket PC and Macintosh laptops.
