Wenn ich das mit Weihnachten 1999 lese wird mir ehrlich gesagt ganz schön komisch.
Nun mal an alle, die Probleme mit der Zeit haben, MBX wollte schon Weihnachten 1999 einen WebDVD Player rausbringen - eine Metabox mit DVD.

Wieso hat das bisher keiner von den findigen "Domy-Verarscht-uns-alle" Jünger entdeckt?

Damit hätte man schon seit Anfang 2000 die Aktie runterputzen können.

Na schön, meiner Meinung nach passieren halt Verzögerungen, nun ist halt 2000 zu ende, die Box mit DVD Player ist da !

Und wieso sollten die Umsätze nicht folgen ?

Damit sieht man mal, das der Phönix nicht erst seit Mai 2000 geplant war.

Ach mein lieber 2ids4me. Ich kenne die Antwort auf deine Fragen. Soll ich sie dir gnädigerweie zukommen lassen. Ich gehe zwar davon aus, daß du die Antwort eh schon kennst und mal wieder um des Bashens willen bashst, aber was solls.

Es war eine Variante der MBX500 mit DVD-Player geplant. Aber falls du es noch nicht mitbekommen hast: Im Herbst 1999 hat Metabox eingesehen, daß mit solchen Internet-STBs kein Geld zu verdienen ist und hat sich auf iTV spezialisiert. Deshalb wurden alle Weiterentwicklungen der MBX500 gestoppt und alle Ressourcen zur Entwicklung einer völlig neuen Generation von STBs für iTV genutzt.

Der "Home Mighty"-DVD-Player erregte im Frühjahr Aufsehen, weil er der erste Player undefinierten Ursprungs war, der auf den deutschen Markt kam. Inzwischen ist die Quelle klar: Das Gerät wird von der Firma Comjet in Taipei, Taiwan, vermarktet. Hersteller ist allerdings die Fabrik des Hitachi-Konzerns, die in Taiwan das neue Modell DVP-250 baut. Unter dem Phantasienamen Home Mighty darf Überschussproduktion abgegeben werden. Freilich unterscheidet sich nicht nur die Frontblende vom Hitachi: Es fehlt beim Home Mighty auch das Disc-Navigation-System des Hitachi, und - wahrscheinlich noch wichtiger - es fehlt die Qualitätskontrolle, die von Hitachi-Techniker vor Ort ausgeführt wird. Der Home Mighty ist übrigens wiederum identisch mit den Metabox-DVD-Spieler; nur gibt es dort noch die Variante mit Internet-Anbindung - die will aber keiner haben, wenn ich die Aussagen von Metabox richtig interpretiere.

Ravisent Technologies wird für die Microsoft-Spielekonsole X-Box die DVD-Abspielsoftware und eine eigene Fernbedienung liefern.

Das kündigte der an der US-Börse Nasdaq notierte DVD-Spezialist am Freitag mit. Ravisent ist vor allem in den USA durch seine Software CineMaster bekannt, mit der sich DVD-Filme auf einem Windows-PC abspielen lassen. Den Angaben zufolge sollen von CineMaster bislang weltweit 18 Millionen Kopien verkauft worden sein.

Die Möglichkeit DVD-Filme in den Spielekonsolen abzuspielen, gilt als entscheidendes Verkaufsargument gegenüber Neukunden, da sich die Anschaffung eines vergleichsweise teuren DVD-Players erübrigt.


Die Ravisent-Technik soll die Ende kommenden Jahres erscheinende X-Box zu einem vollwertigen DVD-Abspielgerät machen, dabei jedoch ausschließlich als Zusatzprodukt erhältlich sein. "Spieler, die ihre X-Box zum DVD-Player machen wollen, können ein spezielles Ergänzungs-Paket kaufen, dass neben der Software auch eine Fernbedienung enthält," sagte Ravisent-Vizechef Alan Mcann.


Microsoft will sich mit dem DVD-Paket gegenüber dem bereits in diesem Jahr eingeführten Konkurrenzprodukt Playstation-2 von Sony einen Wettbewerbsvorteil verschaffen. Der DVD-Player im Sony-Gerät lässt sich ehr umständlich über das allein zum Spielen entwickelte Gamepad bedienen.

sorry hatte gestern wenig Zeit den ironischen Touch hinzuzufügen.

Dachte nicht im Traum daran zu bashen, dafür weiss ich zu gut, was bei MBX an Chancen ansteht.

Außerdem wollte ich nur zeigen, daß die Profiklugscheisser, diese Quelle bisher nicht ausgeschlachtet haben, warum ?

Ganz klar, der Zeithorizont ist zu gross, die Bashergemeinde lebt nur solange wie eine Fruchtfliege, dafür tauchen immer neue auf.

Music oder Video-on-Demand heisst, dass Ihnen Musik oder Videos gegen Bezahlung geliefert werden. Entwickler und Interessenten diskutieren schon seit längerem über Video-on-Demand, denn es wäre natürlich schön, wenn man sich den Gang in die Videothek sparen könnte. Es gibt aber ein Problem dabei: Vor allem bei längeren Videos oder Spielfilmen sind dazu noch andere Übertragungswege notwendig, denn digitale Videos bestehen aus einer riesigen Menge von Daten. Sie sind zu groß, als dass sie in befriedigender Geschwindigkeit über normale Modem-Verbindungen oder BOT versendet werden können.


Die ZUKUNFT:
met@box präsentierte bereits Prototypen von Set-Top-Boxen, die in Zukunft eine sogenannte ADSL-Anbindung oder ein Kabelmodem, also ein spezielles Modem für das Fernsehkabel verwenden werden.

Eine andere Möglichkeit wird ein neues, von Met@box patentiertes Verfahren sein: Dabei werden große Mediendateien (z.B. Videos) verschlüsselt auf DVDs bereitgestellt. Diese DVD selbst ist für den Kunden kostenlos, so aber nicht nutzbar. Im Pay-per-view-Verfahren (also gegen Bezahlung) kann man sich dann über das Internet ein Passwort schicken lassen, mit dem der Film gesehen werden kann. Abgerechnet wird dieser Dienst über die Telefonrechnung.
