Sony Fingerprint Unit Now Compatible With VeriSign Products

TOKYO, June 6 /PRNewswire/ -- VeriSign, Inc. (Nasdaq: VRSN), the leading
provider of Internet trust services today announced that its subsidiary
company VeriSign Japan K.K., will provide a security solution which combines
Sony`s biometrics identification and VeriSign`s managed Public Key
Infrastructure (PKI) services to provide the highest level of authentication
by securely associating an individual to his or her digital certificate. The
company`s managed PKI services offer full interoperability with Sony`s FIU-710
Fingerprint Identification Unit. This new security solution will be
demonstrated live at Networld+Interop 2001 (VeriSign Japan booth. No. 6P04),
held at the Makuhari convention center today.

organizations, and healthcare and wireless providers," commented Akihiko

and raises the bar for security on the Internet."
The Sony FIU-710 device, also known as "Puppy," is a unique credit
card-sized portable device that contains state of the art biometrics
technology for fingerprint identification of individuals and is designed to
offer businesses and organizations a high level of user authentication. Puppy
was developed based on industry standards and designed for seamless PKI
integration and customer implementation through the support of on-board PKI
key generation and digital certificate storage functions. Puppy can utilize
either a USB or Serial Interface on any standard Windows(R) PC.
Biometrics identification involves the use of certain biological
characteristics, such as fingerprints, iris patterns, or voice print analysis
to confirm identity electronically. Combining biometrics identification with
the functions of Public Key Infrastructure (PKI), including digitally signing
transactions and encryption, increases the level of authentication. Online
businesses and organizations will now be able to leverage Sony`s biometrics
identification technology in conjunction with a VeriSign digital certificate
to authenticate and manage the access rights of users, and to secure both
public and private networks.

digital certificates plug into our biometric device to provide a total
solution for securing Internet applications," said Yoshio Kubo, general
manager of Sony Corporation`s bionics business department.
Trials combining Sony`s FIU-710 fingerprint identification unit and
VeriSign`s managed digital certificate service will be available this summer
in Japan.
Biometrics applications include remote access, log-on, desktop encryption
and user authentication. Biometrics techniques, however, do not lend
themselves to binding the signature verification mechanism of an individual to
validated information (e.g., name, organization or address) for authentication
purposes, without using digital certificates and a public key infrastructure
to bind them together.
Biometrics is valuable for controlling local access to computer resources
and cryptographic keys contained within a crypto-module; authorized users can
safely enable digitally signed or encrypted communications over insecure
networks or channels, such as the Internet, by utilizing digital certificates.

So richtig scheint sich hier im Board niemand für VRSN zu interressieren.

Obwohl nach der Genehmigung von ICANN und den US-Behörden für VRSN ein Quasi-Monopol entstanden ist. Und das Unternehmen für die nächsten Jahre mit festen Einnahmen im Bereich Domainregistrierung rechnen kann.
Die Erträge für .com`s betragen pro Domain jährlich 6$.
Die Sicherheitszertifikate von VRSN machen das E-shopping sicher und sind für die Seite auf denen Sie zum Einsatz kommen wie eine Art Gütesiegel.Um mal nur zwei der Tätigkeitsfelder von VRSN zu skizzieren.

Charttechisch vollzieht die Aktie wohl grad einen Pullback. Wichtige Supports befinden sich bei 54$,48$ nach oben ist bei 57$ ein massiver Widertand.Sollte die Aktie diesen durchbrechen sollten kurzfristig Kurse von 65$ drin sein. Entscheidend für dieses Szenario ist der Verlauf der jetzigen Warning-Season bzw. Gesamtmarkt.
Da VRSN selbst wohl kaum Signale für die eine oder andere Richtung senden wird. (Mit einer Warnung ist nicht zu rechnen). "Normale" Meldungen haben auf den Kurs kaum Einfluß, Analysten werden sich auch nicht äußern, die meisten haben Ihre Prognosen in letzter Zeit angehoben. So daß mitweiteren Impulsen aus dieser Ecke nicht zu rechnen ist.

Insgesamt ist Ausblick sehr positiv für VRSN, bei einem sich positiv entwickelden Gesamtmarkt sollte der Kurs überproportional profitieren können (KZ:80$). Die Aktie ist aufgrund Ihres Hauptgeschäftes relativ konjunkturresistent. Die in jüngster Vergangenheit gefällten Entscheidungen lassen einen sonnigen Ausblick für das Papier prognostizieren.
