Wal-Mart`s July same-store sales up 6% (WMT) by Julie Rannazzisi
Wal-Mart Stores (WMT) reported July comparable sales that were up 6 percent from the same period last year while
sales at the Wal-Mart division rose 6.3 percent and were up 4.9 percent at Sam`s Club. The Dow company reported
total July sales of $16.023 billion, an increase of 13.9 percent over the $14.063 billion in the same period last year. The
Wal-Mart division`s total sales for the same period were $10.100 billion, up 14.5 percent over sales of $8.823 billion in
the similar prior-year period. Sam`s Club sales for the four-week period were $2.132 billion, up 8.7 percent over sales of
$1.962 billion in the similar prior-year period. The Bentonville, Ark.-based company closed down 55 cents to $54.53 on
Wednesday.
Kmart `extremely pleased` with sales (KM) by Steve Gelsi
Kmart [S: KM] posted July same-store sales rose 3.4 percent. Total net sales were $2.5 billion, up 2 percent from
$2.49 billion in the year-ago period. `We are extremely pleased with our results for the month of July, particularly given
the disruption in 40 percent of our stores due to resets and the price deflation related to our BlueLight Always program,`
said Chuck Conaway, chairman and chief executive officer of Kmart.

Target`s July results ahead of plan (TGT) by Steve Gelsi
Target (TGT) said its same-store sales grew 4.6 percent in July. Net sales increased 11.7 percent to $2.743 billion from
$2.456 billion. Bob Ulrich, chairman and chief executive officer, said July results were `slightly ahead of our plan for the
month.`
