There is no gold in granite. That miners had been thinking this for long time, seems big luck for Cortona Resources. The Australian explorer was able to secure the biggest historical gold field of New South Wales. In the region around Braidwood more than one million ounces gold was produced
mostly by washing gold out of river sands. The origin of this gold is the granite.

„There's nothing there to stop that gold, that mineralisation necessarily“, sagte Managing Director Peter van der Borgh vergangenes Jahr bei der Konferenz „Resourceful Events“.
http://www.brr.com.au/event/55647/resourceful-events
http://www.cortonaresources.com.au/files/announcements/218%2…
http://www.brr.com.au/event/61209/cortona-resources-resource…

Cash Cost of ~A$628/oz ist hoch,

http://www.cortonaresources.com.au/files/announcements/216%2…
Was ich gut finde

TORONTO (miningweekly.com) – The average cash costs at gold mines increased 4,1% in the third quarter of this year, to $585/oz, according to ABN AMRO Bank and VM Group Haliburton Mineral Services' quarterly Gold Mine Cost report.
(...)
VM Group forecasts gold to average at $1 424/oz in 2011, which, taken with current average gold cash costs equates to a “huge” margin of almost $840/oz. The question, though, is whether such big margins can be maintained.
Cash costs have risen by an average of 3,8% on a quarterly basis over the past year, so if this trend continues though 2011, average cash costs could potentially reach more than $700/oz by the fourth quarter of 2011, and average $666/oz over the year, the report says.

"Gold Mine Cortona" eingeben.
http://www.majorscreek.org.au/

CONCERNED RESIDENTS: Cortona managing director Peter van der Borgh says the company will source local workers and materials where possible.
Gold mine could earn $70m a year, employ 80 people.
A Majors Creek gold mine expected to generate $70 million a year could create about 80 jobs in the region, a public meeting was told last night.
About 30 people attended the meeting in Braidwood to discuss the Cortona Resources proposal to mine Dargues Reef at Majors Creek, about 63km east of Canberra. Dargues Reef is the richest historic gold mine in NSW.
Cortona managing director Peter van der Borgh said the company would source local workers and materials wherever possible.
A community meeting more than two years ago had raised several concerns
about the mine which had since been addressed by a new design.
''We have designed this mine to fit that criteria,'' Mr van der Borgh said.
The mine will be underground and will not use cyanide.
It is expected to be operational for five years, with one year needed for construction and three years for rehabilitation.
Despite concerns previously being raised about the environmental impact the mine could have, there was little opposition from the small crowd.
Federal Member for Eden Monaro Mike Kelly said the mine could provide a legacy for the town if it was approved.
It first had to satisfy state and federal government environmental protocol.
''If they do pass through all those environmental hoops, I think the mine would be good for this region.''

Cortona Resources Managing Director Peter van der Borgh explains the regional perspective of the proposed gold mine.
This was the 5th public consultation meeting held by Cortona, but the first in Braidwood.
Cortona Managing Director, Peter van der Borgh made a presentation to a gathering of about 60 people on the 9 year Dargues Reef Mine project. Topics which are of great concern to the community, such as the volume of transport in and out of Majors Creek and Braidwood, noise and dust suppression, noise monitoring and water quality and water table management were discussed in detail...

Cortona Resources drilling identifies new gold zones at Dargues Reef
Cortona Resources' (ASX: CRC) new exploration model has delivered positive drill results at multiple targets near its 100%-owned Dargues Reef Gold Project, revealing new zones and strengthening existing prospects.
The results provide further strong evidence that gold mineralisation is widespread and abundant about the main Dargues Reef zone.
Key results include:
- Ruby Lode: 2 metres at 8.28g/t from 132m, and 2m at 3.74 g/t from 34m, 100m west of previous drilling;
- Carmine Prospect: 4m at 3.36g/t from 20m, and 8m at 2.55g/t from 32m, 100m west of previous drilling; and
- Hughen: 2m at 2.55 g/t from 49m, within an anomalous gold zone measuring 400mx50m.
All of the prospects are located within 600m of the 330,000 ounce Dargues Reef gold deposit in New South Wales, which is part of Cortona's 100%-owned Majors Creek Project, located 60km east of Canberra.
Cortona is awaiting approval to develop a phase 1 +50,000 ounce per annum mine at Dargues Reef where it has recently completed a Definitive Feasibility Study (DFS).
Importantly, the results at Ruby Lode extend the mineralised structure by another 100m (using a 3.0g/t cut-off), taking the strike length of known mineralisation to over 250m.
Given that Ruby Lode is only 150m north of the Main lode and well within reach of the planned mine development, the results are significant. The Ruby lode remains open along strike and at depth.
The latest results enhance Cortona’s ability to target and drill out new deposits with the potential to extend the initial 6-year mine life estimated in the DFS.
Currently Dargues Reef has a JORC Resource 1.615 million tonnes at 6.3g/t gold and a Maiden in-situ Resource 327,300 onces of gold.
In addition to the discovery at Ruby Lode, the model has identified new mineralised zones at Hughen, Carmine and Chinaman’s.
The company plans to drill test Dargues West, Thompsons, Thompsons South, Teardrop, Junction, and Copper Ridge in due course.
The company has begun a field program of detailed mapping and soil sampling to work further prospects up to a “drill ready state”.
Cortona continues to aggressively explore regional and near-mine targets with a view to increasing mineable ounces in the short term, despite the wet weather conditions throughout the summer.
The company is also continuing to work closely with the relevant State and Federal Government departments to finalise the approvals process for the Dargues Reef Project.

Cortona Enters MOU with Leading Underground
Contracting Group for Mining at Dargues Reef, NSW
Incentive arrangements to drive performance Australian gold company Cortona Resources Limited (ASX: CRC) is pleased to advise that it has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Perth-based specialised underground mining services group, GBF Mining and Industrial Services Pty Ltd (GBF), to mine its high-grade Dargues Reef gold deposit in NSW.
The MOU marks another important step towards development of the Dargues Reef Gold Project, where positive Feasibility results indicate a base case average 50,000oz per annum production.
The arrangement will see both parties contribute expertise to mine planning and mine management, driven by an incentive scheme that will reward the contractor according to Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) based on safety, production and costs.
The arrangement delivers a range of benefits to Cortona, including:
• access to experienced ‘top quality’ personnel;
• maximised performance;
• reduced operating costs; and
• availability of tried and tested systems available from start-up,
Owned and operated by experienced mining industry specialists Michael Foulds and Ross Graham, GBF has successfully completed contracts valued at over $1 billion in 20 different underground mining operations. GBF currently has around 450 employees across five underground mines in WA and the Northern Territory.
As part of the incentive arrangements, GBF will subscribe for between one million and two million dollars of shares in Cortona at a price to be agreed at the date of execution of the binding agreements.
Cortona’s Managing Director, Peter van der Borgh, said: “We are delighted to have GBF on board. They have a proven track record with many years’ experience in underground mining. Their systems around HR, procurement, maintenance, and OH & S are well developed and will ensure that we are able to hit the ground running, which is one of the main challenges for a start-up such as Dargues,”
he continued. “The arrangement with GBF is important to the rapid development of the project. The focus will be on getting underground as soon as the Box Cut and portal are in place and to push the development hard. This will open the mine up for ore production on several fronts prior to completion of construction of the processing plant, reducing the risk of bottle-necking.
“The MOU is the first of a number of key boxes we shall tick over the coming few months as we move towards mining. Our commodity is looking good, with pressure on the gold price likely to remain on the upside for some while yet.”
The MOU is subject to Cortona securing the necessary environmental and planning approvals of the NSW and Federal Governments. The NSW Government approval has been delayed because of the recent State election but is expected within the next few weeks.

Guten Morgen,

Stehen uns jedenfalls interessante Wochen/Monate ins Haus.

Für Dargues Reef wurden 42 Mio. angesetzt, 6,8 Mio. hatte CRC im Dez. ´10 cash.

Department progresses Dargues Reef proposal
10 Aug, 2011 04:00 AM
The Director General of the NSW Department of Planning and Infrastructure published last week the Environmental Assessment Report on the proposed Dargues Reef Gold Mine at Majors Creek.
The report states “that the project would provide economic and social benefits to both the region and NSW… and the Department believes that the project’s benefits sufficiently outweigh its residual costs and that it is in the public interest and should therefore be approved subject to strict conditions.”
Cortona Resources says “The NSW Planning Assessment Commission is currently reviewing the project. The draft conditions as proposed by the Department have been reviewed by the Company and are deemed to be manageable within the scope of the project.”
The Proposal has now been referred to the Planning Assessment Commission PAC for determination, under the terms of the Minister’s delegation. For this project the Commission comprises: Dr Neil Shepherd AM (Chair), Mr Garry Payne AM and Mr Joe Woodward.
The application and associated documents, including the Department of Planning and Infrastructure’s assessment report and recommendation, are publicly available on the Department’s website.
The PAC said “Due to the level of public interest in the project, the Commission will be meeting to hear submitter’s views on the recommendation, prior to determining the project.”
The PAC Meeting will commence at 9am on Tuesday 23 August 2011 at the Braidwood Services Club. The meeting will be open to the public and those who wish to speak at the meeting can register by contacting Megan Webb by Thursday 18 August 2011. (Tel 02 9383 2113 or megan.webb@planning.nsw.gov.au)
The project would produce “up to 355,000 tonnes of ore a year, for a period of up to 7 years, and a have a capital investment value of $42 million, and would generate 100 jobs during site establishment and 80 jobs during operation.”
The report summarises that, “This assessment has found that, despite the residents of Majors Creek being in relatively close proximity to the mine, the project would not result in significant noise, traffic, dust or visual amenity impacts. However, the project would require the clearing of 27.3 hectares (ha) of land and may impact on local ground and surface water resources.
The Department has recommended a range of conditions to ensure that these impacts are suitably mitigated, managed and/or offset.” These conditions include requirements for BIM (Big Island Mining) to:
* offset any loss of baseflow to the surrounding watercourses;
* implement additional measures to minimise the dust, noise, blasting and visual impacts of the project;
* develop and implement a biodiversity offset to ensure the project maintains and potentially improves the biodiversity values of the region in the medium to long term;
* conserve the proposed biodiversity offset area in perpetuity;
* progressively rehabilitate the site;
* pay Palerang Council $997,000 for road upgrade works and community infrastructure improvements and an additional $78,000 per annum for road maintenance works;
* monitor and regularly report on its environmental performance; and
* commission independent audits of its operations, to ensure that it is complying with its conditions of approval and implementing best practice on site.
One of the main areas of contention is the noise during the mine Operating Hours and the report says that “Crushing operations (including operation of front-endloader) will be restricted to 7am-7pm, 7 days per week On Monday Cortona Resources announced that it has mandated Deutsche Bank AG to provide a financing package of up to A$37 Million for the development of the Dargues Reef Gold Project.
“At the current spot price of A$1,550/oz, Dargues Reef is forecast to deliver free cash flows of ~A$112 million and a post-tax NPV (8% discount) in excess of A$75 million dollars. Recent discoveries close to the planned development highlight the potential for increased near term production and mine life, while the resource also remains open at depth.”
“The Financing Package includes a prepaid gold forward and requires Cortona to commit to a gold hedging program. The total quantum of gold ounces committed under the Financing Package will be dependent upon the prevailing spot price at financial close but is expected to represent less than 30% of the existing proven and probable reserves at Dargues Reef.
The Hedging Program will secure the Company’s repayment obligations whilst providing Cortona with significant exposure to the spot price in this very strong gold market.” Yesterday in the midst of global financial turmoil, the Gold price was soaring past A$1700 per ounce with some analysts predicting as rise to $2,000 per ounce.

* offset any loss of baseflow to the surrounding watercourses;
* implement additional measures to minimise the dust, noise, blasting and visual impacts of the project;
* develop and implement a biodiversity offset to ensure the project maintains and potentially improves the biodiversity values of the region in the medium to long term;
* conserve the proposed biodiversity offset area in perpetuity;
* progressively rehabilitate the site;
* pay Palerang Council $997,000 for road upgrade works and community infrastructure improvements and an additional $78,000 per annum for road maintenance works;

Cortona faces opposition for Dargues Reef development
PERTH (miningweekly.com) - The New South Wales Land and Environment Court has received appeals against the development of ASX-listed Cortona Resources’ Dargues Reef project, after the company received state and federal approval to develop the project.
Cortona said on Monday that objectors have started merits appeal challenges in the Court against the New South Wales Planning Minister’s grant of the environmental approvals for Dargues Reef.
The Dargues Reef deposit is expected to be the first operating mine for Cortona, delivering some 50 000 oz/y of gold over an initial mine life of six years. Production was set to start in the first quarter of 2012.
The project will comprise an underground gold mine, a run-of-mine pad, temporary waste rock emplacement, a crushing facility, processing plant, tailings storage facility and associated infrastructure.
The project received state environmental and planning approvals in September this year, as well as federal governmental approval under the Environmental Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act.
“The company believes that the measures it has committed to and implemented as part of its environmental obligations should position it well to successfully defend the challenge,” Cortona said on Monday.
The company added that during the currency of the merit appeal challenge, the company was entitled to continue to rely on the environmental approval to carry out its operations at Dargues Reef.
Cortona recently started reverse circulation drilling at the Major Creek gold project, which contains the Dargues Reef mine, to test new targets along Copper Ridge, near Dargues Reef, where the company has identified gold and silver anomalies.
The programme was also planned to test depth and strike extensions at Ruby Lode and Chinamans.

http://www.braidwoodtimes.com.au/news/local/news/general/feb…
An appeal against the Dargues Reef mine approval will be heard in the Land and Environment Court on 1st February 2012. Actions brought by Coastwatchers, SERCA (South East Region Conservation Alliance) and Eurobodalla Council have been consolidated under one representation by the Environmental Defenders Office.
Principle Solicitor for the EDO Kirsty Ruddock said a merit appeal was allowable against the mine, as the Planning Assessment Commission were the ‘determining’ authority, rather than ‘reviewing’ the approvals.
Last Friday, at a NSW Land and Environment Court (LEC) Motion Hearing for Expedition bought by Cortona Resources, the Judge ruled in favour of Cortona’s Motion and ordered that the Appeal be heard expeditiously. The commencement date for the hearing was set for the first week the Court resumes after the Christmas break.
Cortona announced that it had received NSW State environmental and planning approvals for the Dargues Reef gold mine at Majors Creek on 8th September 2011.
On 28th September 2011 Cortona announced that it had received Federal Government approval under the Environmental Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act).
After objectors had commenced merits appeal challenges in the NSW LEC against the approvals for Dargues Reef, Cortona made an application to the LEC for a Motion Hearing that the appeals be heard expeditiously.
At last weeks hearing the Judge ordered that the Appeal be heard expeditiously, and set the commencement date.
Cortona says “the project has passed every environmental standard set by the NSW and Federal Governments and is well positioned to prove it poses no harm to communities or the environment.”

Cortona Reaches Agreement with Objectors to Dargues Reef Mine Development
Australian gold company Cortona Resources Limited (ASX: CRC) is
pleased to advise that it has reached agreement with The
Coastwatchers Association Inc and South East Region
Conservation Alliance Inc. These groups formed the second and
final group of objectors to the development approval granted in
September last year for Cortona’s 100%-owned Dargues Reef
Gold Mine (Mine) in NSW.
This follows the decision by the Eurobodalla Shire Council (ESC),
announced in December last year, to withdraw from the appeals
process after Cortona was able to satisfy the ESC about its
concerns regarding the Shire’s water supply.
The objectors were originally seeking an order from the Land and
Environment Court (LEC) that approval for the Mine be refused. The
litigation was due to commence hearing on 1 February 2012 and
was listed for eight hearing days.
At a pre-hearing mention yesterday, the legal representatives for the
NSW Minister for Planning, Cortona and the objector litigants
informed the Court of the agreement and requested that the LEC
grant a project approval for the mine by amending the Minister's
approval in accordance with the agreement reached between the
parties.
In accordance with the LEC's usual practice, the Court determined
that persons who had earlier informed the Department that they
wanted to give evidence at the hearing, should have an opportunity
to give their comments (if any) on the parties' proposed consent
orders. The LEC has provided for their written submissions to be
received by Friday this week to be heard and concluded on
7 February 2012.
Managing Director Peter van der Borgh said “We are very pleased
to have reached agreement with The Coastwatchers Association Inc
and the South East Region Conservation Alliance Inc, marking the
resolution of the second group of outstanding appeals against the
development approval.
“Under this agreement, the Court will be invited to approve the Mine
subject to amendments to the Minister's project approval. This
agreement also captures the earlier agreement which Cortona 2
reached with Eurobodalla Shire Council which saw it withdraw its appeal in the LEC in
December 2011.
“While the Court always has discretion to either refuse or grant approval, having regard to
the agreement that has been reached between the parties, we look forward to the Court's
final determination of the proceedings at the hearing next week.
The end of legal action will remove a lengthy period of uncertainty allowing Cortona to
finalise its remaining permitting requirements to develop the project, and proceed with the
development of Dargues Reef for the benefit of shareholders and local communities.
Yours faithfully

Majors Creek goldmine agreement
BY JOHN THISTLETON
02 Feb, 2012 01:00 AM
Proponents of a huge underground gold mine east of Canberra say they've made a major breakthrough by securing agreements with two environmental groups, but cannot give a starting date for building the mine.
Cortona Resources says the Majors Creek mine will create 100 jobs during construction and 80 ongoing jobs during production of an estimated 50,000 ounces of gold a year.
The Land and Environment Court is expected to give consent on Tuesday following the agreement between Cortona and The Coastwatchers Association and South East Region Conservation Alliance.
Lawyers representing the mine, NSW Minister for Planning and the two environmental groups reached agreement at a Land and Environment Court hearing on Monday.
The agreement follows an earlier deal with Eurobodalla Shire Council, which had concerns over water quality in the Moruya River catchment.
Lois Katz of the South East Region Conservation Alliance said experts providing evidence on both sides of the debate had agreed on improvements to the tailings dam.
Coastwatchers Association president Sheila Monahan said the agreement would add more environmental protection.
Asked if the tailings dam had been increased from a category three to category one tailings dam, Cortona Resources managing director Peter van der Borgh said the dam met requirements of the NSW Dam Safety Committee.
Key to agreement with objectors was dialogue to explain the science.
''Once they understood that, what we were proposing made more sense.''
He said appeals against the development raised uncertainty, but reaching agreements would instil more confidence with investors in the mine.
He said the owners were not looking for a buyer for the mine.
In a statement to the Australian Stock Exchange, Cortona said design work for the tailings storage facility had been finalised and expressions of interest to build it had been invited.
An operations plan had been submitted to government agencies and the final application for the mining lease was awaiting approval.
''Licensed water bores have been drilled on site in readiness for commencement of construction of the box cut,'' the statement said.
''Additional monitoring bores are planned to be completed shortly.''
Mr van der Borgh said it was difficult to say when construction would begin until all those approvals were made.

Aktuelle MK: 35,32 Mio. AUD
Aktienanzahl: 220,76 Mio.
Chash&Deposits ~ 4,25 Mio.

Minenfinanzierung durch Deutsche Bank geplant: 37 Mio.
Erwarteter Umsatz bei 50.000 Uncen * 1.700 = 85 Mio.
Kosten inkl. Mine "schätze" ich mal so auf 45. Mio. ?

Cortona to rework old goldmine
THE mining industry is to get a lot closer to Canberra with the planned $42 million redevelopment of the historic Majors Creek goldfield, 60km east of the nation's capital.
Cortona Resources plans to have the mine in production next year after being granted a mining lease by NSW Resources Minister Chris Hartcher.
Majors Creek was a rich goldfield between 1870-91 and 1914-16, when more than 1.25 million ounces of gold was plucked from alluvial workings and hard-rock operations.
In its revival plan, Cortona is focusing on Dargues Reef, where it has outlined a 327,000oz resource (1.61 million tonnes grading 6.3g of gold a tonne) capable of supporting an initial six-year mine life producing 50,000oz a year at a cash cost of $697/oz.
The resource does not include other recent Cortona discoveries at Ruby Lode, Chinamans, Dargues West or Carmine prospects, all within 250m of the Dargues Reef underground development.
Delays in securing the required approvals and mining lease is estimated to have forced a six-month delay in Cortona's original development schedule.
In September, approval from the NSW Planning Assessment Commission was received but two groups lodged appeals with the Land & Environment Court.
The objections were later withdrawn after successful negotiations with Cortona.

Finances keep new gold mine on hold
http://www.canberratimes.com.au/act-news/finances-keep-new-g…

http://www.goldinvest.de/index.php/unity-mining-und-cortona-…
