      WALL STREET CORRESPONDENTS

Microsoft signs B2B pact with Commerce One

NEW ORLEANS, April 24 (Reuters) - Microsoft Corp. (NasdaqNM:MSFT - news), seeking to make a bigger name for itself in the business-to-business software market, said on Tuesday it had formed a partnership with Internet commerce company Commerce One Inc. (NasdaqNM:CMRC - news)

Microsoft Chief Executive Steve Ballmer and the chief executive of Commerce One, Mark Hoffman, were set to make the announcement during a keynote speech at Commerce One`s eLink user conference in New Orleans, which kicked off Tuesday.

Under the deal, Microsoft said it would loan Commerce One $25 million to help the software company develop a product that would allow businesses using Microsoft`s software to more easily integrate with online exchanges powered by Commerce One.

In so doing, the two companies are going to the heart of one of the biggest problems holding back the growth of B2B marketplaces -- the lack of online suppliers.

      Press Release

Commerce One and Citibank to Offer Comprehensive E-Marketplace Financial Services Solution

Baltimore Technologies, Netegrity and SurePay Join Efforts to Deliver Complete Invoice-to-Payment Capabilities for E-Marketplaces

NEW ORLEANS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 24, 2001-- At the eLink conference today, Commerce One, Inc. (Nasdaq:CMRC - news), the e-marketplace company, and Citibank e-Business, a member of Citigroup (NYSE:C - news), announced the first offering of their strategic alliance to provide a comprehensive financial services solution for e-marketplaces. The new solution was created in conjunction with key technology partners Baltimore Technologies, Netegrity and SurePay, powered by VeriSign.

The open, integrated service streamlines and automates the entire invoice-to-payment process across e-marketplaces. It is based on an industry-supported, secure and scalable model that combines Citibank`s global financial services network with Commerce One MarketSite(TM), the e-marketplace operating environment. The offering is expected to significantly lower the cost and reduces the complexity of buying and selling between companies in an e-marketplace.

``Commerce One is bringing together global electronic commerce and financial leaders and combining best-of-breed solutions to simplify the payment and purchasing process for e-marketplaces,`` said Rob Tarkoff, senior vice president worldwide business development, Commerce One. ``By working with Citibank and our other key partners, we believe we are delivering the core financial services that will make it significantly easier to drive business across the Global Trading Web.``

``Citibank e-Business is making it easier for companies to buy and sell online,`` said Ann Cairns, global e-Solutions head, Citibank e-Business. ``We are the first payment provider to utilize MarketSite through our unique web-enabled financial services solutions, CitiConnect(SM). Working closely with Commerce One and other partners is key to our strategy for delivering value to Citibank customers in the online world.``

Today, companies must take the payment process off-line to satisfy individual payment requirements due to disparate applications, multiple financial service providers and security issues. Commerce One and Citibank are integrating key technologies from leading financial and technology providers and are expected to offer a complete solution that provides the products, integration services and business strategies to help any e-marketplace simplify their payment processes and reduce the cost of conducting business online.

Commerce One and its financial and technology partners are providing the following elements of the solution:

      * Citibank provides CitiConnect(SM) Web-enabled financial services to enable e-marketplaces to expand their offerings beyond e-procurement and include global payment and other value-added services over the e-marketplace.
      * SurePay, an eONE Global company, manages payment requests and performs settlement of the payment from the buyer`s account to the supplier`s account.
      * Baltimore Technologies provides digital certificates, encryption and authentication, and Netegrity provides single sign-on and user management capabilities, to ensure secure business-to-business transactions.
      * Commerce One provides the on-ramps for payment through Commerce One Invoice Presentment and Payment. Commerce One also provides consulting services to help companies leverage best practices in their procurement activities.

The solution is built on MarketSite and Commerce One`s xCBL library of XML business documents and is open to all applications required to automate the invoice-to-payment process. It is based on open standards and is scalable, enabling the addition of multiple financial services providers and services including escrow, letters of credit and leasing.

      Press Release

Cable & Wireless Optus and SESAMi.NET Connect Across the Commerce One Global Trading Web

Interoperability Gives Buyers and Suppliers Access to Trading Partners Across Global E-Marketplaces

NEW ORLEANS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 24 2001-- At the eLink 2001 conference today, Commerce One®, Inc. (Nasdaq:CMRC - news), the e-marketplace company, SESAMi Inc, (``SESAMi``), the leading B2B e-commerce service provider operating Asia`s leading e-hub and Cable & Wireless Optus (ASX: CWO), Australia`s leading integrated communications company, announced they have established interoperability between the Cable & Wireless Optus Marketsite and SESAMi.NET.

The interoperability is made possible by the Commerce One MarketSite(TM) e-marketplace operating environment, which powers the Global Trading Web, the world`s largest business-to-business trading community.

The two e-marketplaces bring well over 2,000 buyers and suppliers together and offer trading partners a gateway to further online business opportunities across the Asia Pacific region. The CWO Marketsite is dedicated to supporting Australian and New Zealand markets, while SESAMi is a major player in the Asia Pacific region.

Interoperability makes it possible for trading partners connected to each e-marketplace to seamlessly tap into a larger pool of buyers and suppliers. This significantly increases access to goods, services and new business opportunities for all participants. As additional e-marketplaces are interconnected, trade volume has the potential to increase as well.

``We are turning the vision of Commerce One`s Global Trading Web into reality as more and more e-marketplaces interconnect to link regions, industries and organizations around the world,`` said Linda Stegeman, chief marketing officer for Commerce One. ``We`re pleased tobe working with SESAMi, and Cable & Wireless Optus, two groundbreaking e-marketplaces, to provide seamless e-commerce for organizations in the Asia Pacific region.``

The ability of CWO Marketsite and SESAMi.NET to interoperate will be demonstrated in the Global Trading Web Showcase at eLink 2001 New Orleans today and Wednesday. The demonstration highlights the seamless interoperability of the two e-marketplaces. For example, a buyer can initiate a price-check procedure from the Cable & Wireless Optus site accessing a supplier on SESAMi. The buyer then generates a purchase order and sends it over to SESAMi for retrieval by a SESAMi supplier. The supplier accepts the purchase order from SESAMi and the status is transmitted back to the Cable & Wireless Optus e-marketplace, where an acceptance notice is indicated to the supplier.

Cable & Wireless Optus and SESAMi established the link between the e-marketplaces within one day, highlighting the ease of interoperability between Commerce One powered e-marketplaces. This is key to global e-commerce, as communities do not need to rely solely on organic growth to expand and can provide access to more businesses for greater reach.

Commenting on this new link, Ms. Poh Mui Hoon, president of SESAMi Inc said, ``The promise of B2B e-commerce is now even more apparent. With e-marketplace interoperability, the gains from e-commerce will be increased exponentially and this is sure to set the stage for greater proliferation of the industry. Already, analysts are projecting continued growth for businesses that are e-enabled. The easy access to interconnected marketplaces will mean even greater efficiencies in business processes for these companies and better bottom-line results.``

Chris Hancock, managing director of Data and Business Services at Cable & Wireless Optus said, ``Cooperation between leading e-marketplace operators such as SESAMi and Cable & Wireless Optus is the key to making global trade easier. We are excited that we can bring the benefits of the Global Trading Web to businesses in Australia and New Zealand.``

      Commerce One – starke Partner

Commerce Ones Chief Executive Officer Mark Hoffman sagte, Softwareentwickler beider Unternehmen würden bereits seit letztem September zusammenarbeiten.
