Metromedia wird überleben und damit steht uns allen ein Kursfeuerwerk bevor.
Die momentanen Schwierigkeiten werden überstanden.

Aufgrund der Dynamik mit der Metromedia wächst und aufgrund meiner pers. Erfahrung Wette ich mit euch das es sehr bald wieder steil nach oben gehen wird.

NEW YORK -- And you thought the days of online stock chat, featuring penny tech stocks, were dead and buried.

Not so, the case of Metromedia Fiber Network Inc. (MFNX) suggests. The Yahoo! Finance message board dedicated to the troubled White Plains, N.Y.-based builder of fiber-optic networks in metropolitan areas has been buzzing with the kind of activity that encourages nostalgia for message boards` boom years.

According to Yahoo (YHOO), the Metromedia Fiber board has been ranked most " popular" for more than a month. The ranking uses an algorithm that calculates moving averages based on posting volume.

By market close on Tuesday, the board had added 1109 messages for the day, 17% less than in the same time period Monday but considerably more than the 853 messages posted to the Cisco Systems Inc. (CSCO) board or the 177 posted to the Microsoft Corp. (MSFT) board.

Metromedia Fiber spokeswoman Kara Carbone was at a loss to explain the company`s popularity online. But it has been the focus of intense investor interest during the past month, as its shares dropped below $1 and concern mounted that the company, which is running out of cash, could be forced into bankruptcy. Online investors have flocked to Yahoo, in particular, to sound off on the company`s prospects.

"Stocks with no future don`t have [this] kind of [message] board activity," wrote one hopeful visitor to the company`s board with the screen name " stocksniper01" who saw grist for the mill in the stock-talk itself.

But bankruptcy fears are very real. Metromedia had only $78.3 million in cash and cash equivalents at the close of the second quarter, down from $453.3 million at the end of the first quarter. The company blamed higher costs associated with operating its network for the cash-flow depletion.

It reported a second-quarter loss of $205.2 million, or 34 cents a share, two cents wider than Wall Street analysts had expected. In the year-ago period, the company posted a loss of $92 million, or 17 cents a share. Second-quarter revenue more than doubled to $91.7 million from the year-earlier $43.3 million.

Even one of Metromedia Fiber`s biggest investors, Verizon Communications Inc. (VZ), seems to be betting against it. The communications giant recently wrote off much of its $1.7 billion investment in Metromedia Fiber.

Now, the company is scrambling to raise money. On Monday, it said it received a commitment from Citigroup Inc. (C) and other lenders for $150 million in financing. The sum was significantly less than the $350 million Metromedia Fiber had expected, and the deal was laden with conditions. Metromedia Fiber must raise $230 million from other sources - $180 million of which has already been promised by company affiliates - find another $200 million in vendor financing and payment-deferal agreements to receive the Citigroup infusion.

The picture is sad irony. A year ago Metromedia Fiber and its kind were Wall Street darlings given easy access to funds for ambitious network-building projects. But as the bottom fell out of technology stocks, investors lost their enthusiasm for companies with heavy losses and no hint of profits for several years.

Metromedia Fiber`s stock jumped 26%, or 19 cents, on the Citigroup news to close at 93 cents Monday. But the stock retreated Tuesday to close at 82 cents, down 11 cents or 12%.

Much of Tuesday`s dip came at the end of the session, after a company filing with the Security and Exchange Commission revealed Metromedia Fiber was subject to several new lawsuits and in default under the indentures governing it 10% senior notes.

Over the course of the day, sentiment on the Yahoo message board ran the gamut.

"MFNX will go bankrupt even with $500m in new financing," read the title to a message posted by someone using the name "bull3000," who listed the reasons for his bearish attitude. "1. It burns $200m each quarter. 2. It has less than $100m in cash. 3. Unpaid money to subcontractors. 4. $1.6B in debt. 5. New cash can only last a couple of quarters."

On the bullish end of the spectrum was "seasonedspeculator," who, irritated at the stock`s decline Tuesday, wrote: "How sad and short sighted these weak hands are! They read a few Bear (Shortie) reports and then panic sell. Someday, they will be telling their grandchild how they had an opportunity to buy the modernday equivalent of AT&T in it`s infancy, and they blew it! (sic)"

Then there were the comedians. "This will not stay at this dirt level. Use your margin account if you can, Johnny. People will realize that fiber optic is the future."
