WE HAD a great day," said Sgt Eric Schrumpf of the US Marines last Saturday. "We killed a lot of people."

He added: "We dropped a few civilians, but what do you do?" He said there were women standing near an Iraqi soldier, and one of them fell when he and other Marines opened fire. "I`m sorry," said Sgt Schrumpf, "but the chick was in the way".

During a night “cleanup” in one of suburban houses near An-Nasiriya three marines shot a man and afterwards raped and shot his wife. The command got information about this accident from one of its informers. After interrogation the marines were sent to Qatar for additional investigations.

MARCH 22: Two Royal Navy Sea King helicopters collide in the Gulf. All seven crew killed. US soldier dies in vehicle accident in Iraq.

MARCH 24: Marine killed by accidental discharge of machine-gun in Iraq.
