PLANTATION, Fla., March 18 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Viragen, Inc. today announced that the Company has entered into an agreement with Oxford BioMedica plc (LONDON: OXB) to obtain rights to a technology that may prove key in its collaboration with Roslin Institute to develop avian transgenic technology as a novel platform for the efficient, cost-effective manufacturing of protein drugs. The agreement provides Viragen with an option to acquire an exclusive worldwide license for proprietary gene transfer vectors, biotechnology tools designed to transfer genes into cells at high efficiency. Initial studies evaluating a novel use for these vectors, which transfer genes for therapeutic proteins into developing chicken embryos, have yielded successful and consistent results. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

In order to produce human therapeutic proteins in avian eggs, a gene delivery method must be optimized to transfer genes for therapeutic proteins into chickens enabling subsequent generations of birds to carry the genes and express adequate quantities of the target drugs in the whites of their eggs. Viragen and Roslin utilized Oxford BioMedica``s vector technology to conduct a "Proof of Principle" study. The study successfully resulted in production of transgenic cockerels that pass on the introduced gene to their offspring with consistent results (germline transmission), a milestone achievement.

In the study, a "reporter gene" was used to measure the efficiency of the vectors. Chick embryos were transfected with the reporter gene carried by the vectors and analysis showed that 100% of the resulting male birds possessed the gene in their sperm, meaning that they were successfully transgenic. The second stage of the study involved breeding these first generation transgenic cockerels to determine the frequency of transgenic birds in the next generation. This resulted in successful production of transgenic male and female birds at a frequency far exceeding requirements for commercial viability.

I believe that these results represent a much higher frequency of production of transgenic chickens than those presented in previously published avian transgenics data. Even at our lowest rate, where one in 100 offspring are transgenic, we met the criteria necessary for commercial viability. These are potentially break-through findings and we are hopeful that we will reproduce these results with the targeted expression in hens of a clinically relevant human monoclonal antibody. These studies are ongoing."

These new initiatives are expected to reduce the cash burn rate up to 40% with certain aspects of the plan effective immediately.

Multiferon wird bisher als Mittel gegen diverse Krebsarten und Viren, wie auch bei Habatitis C eingesetzt und wird offenbar auch schon verkauft.

Viragen currently has several supply agreements, most of which are preferential and some of which contemplate equity ownership in the Company. Viragen has such relationships with the three largest collectors of WBCs in the world, including the American Red Cross (collects approximately 45% of the U.S. blood supply), America’s Blood Centers (which also collects approximately 45% of the U.S. blood supply) and the German Red Cross (the largest collector of blood in Europe). These agreements give Viragen direct access for a white blood supply that meets the highest regulatory standards. The preferential nature of most of these alliances also provides Viragen with a strong barrier to entry against competition.

What are Viragen’s current and planned manufacturing strategies to produce enough Multiferon to meet demand?
Viragen’s manufacturing facility in Umeå, Sweden is capable of meeting short-term demand. Additionally, plans are underway to build additional sites capable of servicing our growing international agreements as well as other distribution agreements and product for clinical trials. Unter Berücksichtigung meiner Interpretation ist durchaus eine Spekulation bezüglich SARS auf Viragen chancenreich.
Doch stehen dem noch Tests bei Patienten und falls erfolgreich, Produktionsengpässe gegenüber.
Die Produktion findet auf der Basis von Hühnereiern statt.
Welche Methoden zur Trennung dieses natürlichen Interferons angewendet werden müssen und wie aufwendig das ist, kann ich nicht sagen.
Auch ob die Kosten für eine allgemeinheit in China tragbar ist, kann ich nicht beurteilen.
Doch in den Industrieländern gibt es sicherlich genug Finanzkraft.

Die Lungenkrankheit SARS hat nach Einschätzung der Weltgesundheitsorganisation (WHO) in vier der am längsten betroffenen Staaten ihren Höhepunkt erreicht. In Kanada, Singapur, Hongkong und Vietnam werde nicht mehr mit einem beträchtlichen Anstieg der Zahl der Infizierten gerechnet, sagte der WHO-Experte David Heymann. Das gilt nicht für China. Dort starben am Montag wieder acht Menschen an SARS.

Landesweit kamen insgesamt 203 Erkrankte dazu. Der deutsche WHO-Virologe Wolfgang Preiser bezeichnete die Maßnahmen an Chinas Flughäfen zur Eindämmung von SARS als unzureichend und warnte vor einer Einschleppung der Krankheit nach Europa. Im ZDFmorgenmagazin kritisierte Preiser auch die deutschen Kontrollen an Flughäfen im Zusammenhang mit SARS. "Nach meinen eigenen Erfahrung, und ich bin am Samstag aus Peking zurückgeflogen, funktioniert die Kontrolle der Flugreisenden noch nicht oder nur sehr unzureichend", sagte der Virologe.

Alarm in China bleibt
In allen Ländern, in denen am 15. März SARS-Infektionen gemeldet worden seien, sei offenbar der Höhepunkt erreicht worden, sagte WHO-Experte Heymann. Das gelte bedauerlicherweise nicht für China. "Dort nimmt die Zahl (der Infektionen) weiter zu", sagte er in der thailändischen Hauptstadt Bangkok, wo sich Staats- und Regierungschefs asiatischer Länder am Dienstag zu Beratungen über die Lungenkrankheit versammeln wollen.

Experte Preiser zur SARS-Gefahr





In China - ohne Hongkong - wurden annähernd 3000 SARS-Fälle offiziell bestätigt, mehr als 1000 davon in der Hauptstadt Peking. Dort haben die chinesischen Behörden aus Angst vor der Ausbreitung von SARS fast 8000 Menschen unter Quarantäne gestellt. Die Betroffenen hätten in engem Kontakt zu Patienten gestanden, die am Schweren Akuten Respiratorischen Syndrom (SARS) erkrankt seien, meldete die Nachrichtenagentur Xinhua am Montag. Indes ist in Kanada eine weitere Frau an SARS gestorben.

Unter anderem seien eine Baustelle und mehrere Wohngebäude der Hochschulen abgeriegelt worden. Auch mehr als hundert medizinische Einrichtungen stünden unter Quarantäne. Nach Berichten örtlicher Zeitungen wurden 128 Medizin-Einrichtungen unter Beobachtung gestellt.

Öffentliches Leben steht still
Die Behörden hatten am Sonntag die Schließung aller Pekinger Vergnügungsstätten wie Kinos, Internetcafés, Theater und Karaoke-Bars angeordnet. In China sind bislang 131 Menschen der kaum erforschten Virusinfektion zum Opfer gefallen. Insgesamt sind in China derzeit 2914 Krankheitsfälle registriert.

Auch Indonesien hat jetzt seinen vermutlich ersten SARS-Toten gemeldet. Ein taiwanesischer Geschäftsmann sei am Sonntagabend in einem Krankenhaus in Jakarta gestorben, teilte das indonesische Gesundheitsministerium am Montag mit. Ob der 56-Jährige tatsächlich SARS gehabt habe, werde erst die Obduktion erweisen. Das Ergebnis werde am Mittwoch erwartet.

In Kanada erlag eine 79 Jahre alte Frau der rätselhaften Lungenkrankheit, wie die Behörden meldeten. Sie kam wie alle anderen Todesopfer in dem nordamerikanischen Land aus der Provinz Ontario. Die Zahl der SARS-Toten erhöhte sich damit auf 21. Kanada ist außerhalb Asiens das am stärksten von der Lungenkrankheit betroffene Land.

Streit mit der WHO
Trotz der immer neuen Todesfälle betonen die kanadischen Behörden, die Krankheit unter Kontrolle zu haben. Das Land steht mittlerweile im Streit mit der Weltgesundheitsorganisation (WHO), die in der vergangenen Woche eine Reisewarnung für Ontarios Provinzhauptstadt Toronto ausgesprochen hatte. Premierminister Jean Chrétien nannte den Hinweis eine "schlechte Entscheidung".

WHO-Generalsekretärin Gro Harlem Brundtland bezeichnete es in der BBC am Sonntag dagegen als "skandalös", dass in Kanada Anspielungen gemacht wurden, die WHO habe Toronto aus politischen Motiven auf die Schwarze Liste gesetzt, damit nicht nur asiatische Städte gebrandmarkt seien. Die WHO wird am Dienstag über eine mögliche Aufhebung der Reisewarnung für Kanada entscheiden.

Entwarnung für Hanoi
Unterdessen hat die WHO Vietnam als erstes Land von ihrer Liste der SARS-Gebiete genommen. Die Organisation bestätigte Hanoi, die Lungenkrankheit erfolgreich unter Kontrolle gebracht zu haben. In Vietnam wurden seit dem 8. April keine neuen SARS-Fälle registriert. Damit zählt das südostasiatische Land nicht länger zu den gefährlichen Regionen. Die WHO hat einen Zeitraum von 20 Tagen ohne Neuinfektion - das ist die doppelte angenommene Inkubationszeit - als Kriterium genannt, bevor Reisewarnungen aufgehoben werden und die Ausbreitung der Seuche als eingedämmt gilt. Aus Vietnam wurden fünf SARS-Todesfälle seit Auftreten der Krankheit im Februar registriert; rund 60 Infektionen wurden bekannt.

Nach Einschätzung von Experten wird SARS die Weltwirtschaft voraussichtlich bis zu 30 Milliarden Dollar (rund 27,3 Milliarden Euro) kosten. Allein Toronto verliere täglich 30 Millionen Dollar, rechnete die US-Geschäftsbank JP Morgan dem Wochenmagazin "Time" vor. China und Südkorea müssten sich wegen Einbußen in der Tourismusbranche sowie Rückgängen bei Verkauf und Produktion auf Verluste von jeweils zwei Milliarden Dollar einstellen. Japan und Hongkong würden möglicherweise eine Milliarde Dollar verlieren, für Singapur und Taiwan seien ähnliche Zahlen zu erwarten.

Das Schwere Akute Atemwegssyndrom (SARS) wurde zuerst Ende 2002 in Südchina beschrieben und hat sich inzwischen auf mehr als 20 Staaten ausgebreitet. Weltweit wurde am Montag von mindestens 5300 Fällen und 318 Toten berichtet. Die meisten Opfer wurden in Südost-Asien registriert. Die Krankheit endet in offenbar mindestens sechs Prozent der Fälle tödlich. Ein Heilmittel ist nicht bekannt.

Mich wundert wirklich, daß ein user wie4 obulus trotz Antrags eines Kollegen nicht gespeerrt wurde. Es handelt sich bei obulus um entweder einem absolutem Dmmpusher, wenn es stimmt, daß er bei 0,13 noch mal nachgekauft hat, oder einem Pusher, der mit Durchblick in Deutschland SARS Profit- Jünger finden konnte, die bis 0,29!! gkauft haben.
Als ich ihm heute morgen, bei einem Kurs in FFM bei 0,24 schrieb, er solle die Leute nicht so verarschen, hat er mich nur hämisch belacht.Ich schrieb, so wie es auch gekommen ist, daß bis spätestens 15.30 h, der Kurs wieder auf 0,13 zurückgehen wird!
User, wie dieser Obulus sind Gift für jedes Aktien-Forum und sollten lebenslang von allen Foren ausgeschlossen werden!
Ich hoffe nur, daß er auch selbst Schaden erlitten hat und diesen nicht nur anderen, naiven Usern zugefügt hat!

Unabhängig von Erfolg oder Mißerfolg vom Multiferon, wird jetzt schon ein "Werbungseffekt" für Aktie, Unternehmen und Produkt, in Zukunft gegeben sein.
Multiferon hat schon ihre Abnehmer und ein wachsender Markt ist gegeben. Wann Multiferon nun die Kosten einspielt, kann ich nur vage abschätzen. Ähnliche Unternehmen schaffen dies wohl in ca. 2 Jahren.
Denke das dies realistisch ist.
Wenn nun aber "Fördergelder" eingehen, dann ist unter Berücksichtung der Forcierung der Produktion ein kürzerer Zeitraum anzusetzen.
Wenn von 3 Mrd. möglichem Umsatz, nur 1/10/a realisiert würden, dann wären bei einer Marge von 15%, ca. 40 cent Gewinn/Aktie möglich. (Kosten von 10 Mio/a angesetzt)
Doch das wird sicher mehr als 2 Jahre dauern.

Es mag ja sein, daß Du tatsächlich so naiv bist, Pushern in US Boards zu glauben.Aberb behalte dieses für Dich und stelle diesen Unsinn nicht ins board. Sonst wird es immer diese Kettenreaktion geben: Ein cleverer Pusher schickt andere Dummpusher und diese wieder andere Dummpusher in das Verderben. Die Letzten schauen dann am allerdümmsten aus der Wäsche!

Noch was, möchte nicht nerven, aber den Unerfahrenen hier die zu 20-29cent gekauft haben:
Einem Anstieg wie heute morgen steht in 99% der Fälle eine kräftige Korrektur gegenüber. Es ist häufig günstiger in einer Korrektur hinein zu kaufen. Wenn der Kurs eben doch weiter will, dann halt die Aktie sausen laßen. Das wäre dann nicht "meine" Aktie.
Da dies ein "Zock" ist, sollte auch einem Zock entsprechend Gelder eingesetzt werden.
Ich habe gerade mal 2% Depotwert eingesetzt.

Wenn die Aktie nochmal auf 6-7 cent zurückkommt dann überlege ich mir nachzulegen.

Sohu eine Aktie in China, hat sich wegen der SARS-Hysterie verzwanzigfacht. Kennt jemand US-AG´s die auf Arzneimittel- oder Lebensmittelieferservice über das Internet spezialisiert sind?
