SR Telecom Wins First Orders for New Product - SR500-ip selected for expansion project in Southeast Asia with potential value in excess of $100 million over 3 years

MONTREAL, Jan. 27 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ - SR Telecom(TM) Inc. (TSX: SRX - News; Nasdaq: SRXA - News) today launched its next generation SR500-ip point-to-multipoint fixed wireless access system and announced that it has secured the first orders valued at $4.4 million. The orders come from a major incumbent carrier in Southeast Asia, which will use the SR500-ip for the expansion of its extensive rural telecommunications infrastructure. Upon the successful deployment of the initial systems, the Company expects the expansion program will generate revenues in excess of $100 million over three years. The SR500- ip delivers broadband Internet access and more than twice the voice capacity of the predecessor product within the service provider`s existing radio spectrum. It will allow this service provider`s existing network of more than 150,000 subscriber lines to be doubled using the same number of base stations. Deliveries are scheduled to commence in the second quarter of 2004.
SR500-ip integrates broadband Internet access and carrier-class voice in a cost-efficient network that can be deployed quickly and maintained centrally in rural communities. The new system builds upon the universally recognized strengths of the Company`s SR500 platform, which include field-proven performance, the flexibility to be tailored to specific customer requirements and the robustness to be deployed in the harshest of environments. SR500-ip networks can also integrate existing SR500 outstations, giving carriers the ability to maximize revenue from existing assets while expanding network reach and service depth.

TORONTO, Jan 28 (Reuters) - SR Telecom Inc. (Toronto:SRX.TO - News; Toronto:SRXA.TO - News) shares leapt 14 percent on Wednesday after it announced the first orders for its next generation wireless system that improves communications in remote areas.

The company`s shares were up 99 Canadian cents, or 14.27 percent, at C$7.93 on the Toronto Stock Exchange (News - Websites) on volume of 197,725. The stock has moved in a yearly range of C$15.00 to C$5.50.
SR Telecom said a major carrier in southeast Asia had placed a C$4.4 million order for the SR500-ip system -- which provides wireless telephone access in remote areas -- to expand its rural telecommunications infrastructure in Thailand.
The SR500-ip system combines high-speed Internet access and high-quality voice data. The company said it will begin delivering the product in the second quarter of this year.
Montreal-based SR Telecom said it expects to reap sales of more than C$100 million over three years, once the carrier expands the system.
Last week, SR Telecom said it would take restructuring charges in the range of C$2 million to C$3 million between the fourth quarter of 2003 and first quarter of 2004 as part of its cost-cutting program.

(Belltel), a full-service telecommunications provider in the Philippines, has selected the angel(TM) fixed wireless access system for a voice and broadband Internet project in Manila. This is the first commercial deployment of the angel platform in the Philippines.
Deployed as an integral part of Belltel`s iDirect service, the angel product will provide bundled data services, high-speed Internet access and carrier-class voice services to Belltel`s large customer base in the business and high-end residential sectors in Manila.

SR Telecom Restructures CTR Debt Repayment

MONTREAL, Feb. 18 /CNW Telbec/ - SR Telecom(TM) Inc. (TSX: SRX - News; Nasdaq: SRXA - News) today announced that it has reached an agreement with the lenders of Communicacion y Telefonia Rural, S.A. (CTR), its service provider subsidiary in Chile.
The waiver provides for a deferral, from one of the lenders, of principal repayments due in 2004, and extends such repayment of principal to 2008. Consequently, the payments due to CTR`s lenders in 2004 have been reduced from US$9.0 million to US$5.5 million. This enables CTR to expand its network and continue its marketing initiatives to further improve its financial performance.

(TSX: SRX - News; Nasdaq: SRXA - News) today announced that it has received the first in a series of orders for its SR500 point-to-multipoint fixed wireless access system from Telecom Fiji Limited, the national telecommunications service provider in Fiji. The SR500 system will be deployed on the two main islands of Fiji as part of a government-backed community development program. These orders are the first for SR Telecom in Fiji. Deliveries and installations are expected to commence during the second quarter.
The orders, totalling more than $1.5 million, are part of the Fijian government`s initiative to bring access services to every village in Fiji by 2005. Telecom Fiji has initially placed orders to build an SR500 backbone network on the interior of Fiji`s two main islands, Viti Levu and Vanua Levu. SR Telecom Awarded swing(TM) Contract in French Polynesia

Rural telephony modernization program valued at more than $2.5 million

(TSX: SRX - News; Nasdaq: SRXA - News) today announced that its swing fixed wireless access system has been selected by the Office des Postes et Telecommunications (OPT) in French Polynesia for a rural telephony modernization project in the Marquesas islands. The contract is valued at more than $2.5 million over the next two years, of which approximately $1.7 million in equipment and services will be delivered this year. Deliveries are expected to begin during the third quarter.
The swing systems will enable the OPT to deliver toll-quality voice and internet access services to the rural communities in the Marquesas archipelago, a group of twelve islands located in the South Pacific ocean. The OPT will also benefit from the swing system`s WLL feature, serving individual residences by means of a small indoor terminal without the need for a wired connection to a terminal station.

SR Telecom Wins Major Turnkey Contract in Latin America - First delivery for a nationwide universal access application valued at $35 million

(TSX: SRX - News; Nasdaq: SRXA - News) today announced that it has signed a frame contract with a major telecommunications operator in Latin America for a nationwide telecommunications infrastructure expansion and upgrade program. The operator has selected the SR500(TM) family of fixed wireless access systems for its comprehensive network expansion, which is aimed at meeting universal access objectives. This initial phase of the project calls for SR Telecom to deliver turnkey systems valued at approximately $35 million within a nine month period commencing in third quarter of this year. Further deployment and expansion for this universal access program is expected to take place over the next several years.
The operator will deploy the networks throughout the country to provide urban-quality services to rural and remote communities. These include first- time residential services to some areas, an expanded payphone network and the introduction of broadband Internet services to the rural communities. Under the terms of the agreement, SR Telecom will also provide network planning, installation and project management.

(TSX: SRX - News; Nasdaq: SRXA - News) today announced that it has signed an agreement valued at approximately $13 million with Sonatel, the national telecommunications provider in Senegal. Sonatel has selected the SR500 fixed wireless access system for a rural communications development project aimed at meeting the Senegalese government`s ongoing universal access objectives. Sonatel expects to issue the majority of its equipment purchase orders in 2004. The remaining orders will be placed in early 2005.
Adding to its already large network of SR500 systems, Sonatel will deliver voice, fax and Internet services to its customers. Upon completion of this project, SR500 will be installed in more than 650 villages across the country. SR Telecom will also provide certain services, including field surveys, network design, installation, training and project management.
