Hallo,

am Freitag ist die Aktie von Genta um vorübergehend über 40 % gefallen, weil von der FDA eine Meldung wg. einer evtl. Nichtzulassung eines Medikamentes über den Ticker gingen. Die Firma hat das dann eher dementiert und ich habe mir am Freitag keine kleine Menge an Aktien gekauft.

Heute ist leider noch kein Handle zustande gekommen in USA (evlt. ?).

Weiß jemand wieso diese Aktie (mit großer Reboundchance!) ausgesetzt wurde bzw. WANN sie wieder gehandelt wird??

DA Panel Rejects Genta`s Drug for Advanced Skin Cancer

WASHINGTON -- Genta Inc.(NASDAQ-NMS:GNTA) `s (GNTA) experimental drug for advanced skin cancer stumbled when a federal panel refused to endorse its approval, meaning the Food and Drug Administration will likely strike down the product.

Genta set out to prove the drug, Genasense, would help patients live longer by boosting the effectiveness of Bayer AG`s(NYSE:BAY) (BAY) treatment, DTIC. Genta`s study failed to show the drug combination helped people with advanced skin cancer live longer, but did show that by adding Genasense, tumors were kept from growing longer than with DTIC alone.

However, the panel of outside cancer experts said that wasn`t enough to allow the drug on the U.S. market because information that was missing from the study could have biased the results and because Genta`s study didn`t originally plan to examine stifling tumor growth as the main measure of effectiveness.

Only three out of 13 panel members thought Genasense`s study showed enough evidence of the drug`s effectiveness.

The future of Genasense, codeveloped by French drug company Aventis SA (AVE), now lies with the FDA, which will mull the panel`s decision and comments the group made throughout the day when it determines whether it will approve the drug or require more data.

Dr. Richard Pazdur, director FDA`s cancer drugs division, said that in order to approve a drug based on progression-free survival, the benefits must be overwhelmingly convincing. He noted the FDA brought the Genasense application to its cancer panel to show the problems with seeking approval based on progression-free survival, which is the amount of time patients stay alive without their disease worsening.

Dr. John M. Kirkwood, chairman of the department of medicine at the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute, spoke to the panel on behalf of Genta. "We need new agents desperately," he said.

Genta executives weren`t available for comment after the meeting.

Panelist Dr. Maria Rodriguez, interim chairman of the lymphoma and myeloma department at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, wished more information was available. "I`m so disappointed that we don`t have anything that will tell us the appropriate patients for whom this drug is indicated," she said during the deliberations.

Panelist Dr. Sarah A. Taylor, medical director of oncology palliative care services at the University of Kansas Medical Center, said because melanoma is unpredictable, more information is needed to know if the drug is actually working to keep the disease at bay.

"Some patients have very, very slow growing tumors," she added. Therefore, if progression-free survival is used to determine a drug`s effectiveness, the panel would need to know the pace of each patient`s tumor growth before treatment.

Several members of the public spoke in support of Genasense during the meeting.

Dr. Anna Pavlick, one of clinical investigators for trial, came on behalf of one of her patients who credits Genasense with prompting the disappearance of her melanoma almost four years ago after she was told she only had six months to live. "She was able to stop using her wheelchair and danced at her son`s wedding," said Dr. Pavlick.

Genasense is given as a five-day continuous infusion via an apparatus patients wear that resembles a fanny pack. The drug blocks the protein Bcl-2 that is expressed by melanoma cells. By doing that, the company said it enhances the benefits on the chemotherapy DTIC.

In Genta`s study, which included 771 patients from nine countries, survival was similar in patients whether or not Genasense was added to DTIC.

As far as keeping tumors from growing while patients stayed alive, those given Genasense had progression-free survival of 74 days compared to 49 days for patients given DTIC alone.

Melanoma is the rarest, but most-serious, type of skin cancer and typically occurs as brown or black tumors. Although curable if caught early, it is likely to spread to other parts of the body. Accounting for just 4% of skin-cancer cases, melanoma causes roughly 79% of skin-cancer deaths. About 55,000 new cases of melanoma are expected to be diagnosed and 7,910 people will die from the disease this year in the U.S., according to the American Cancer Society.

Shares of Genta were halted before trading opened Monday on the Nasdaq Stock Market and remained that way as of 1 p.m. EDT.

Bin mir sicher das die Aktie schnell wieder über die 10 Dollar steigt. Anfangs Panik wie immer und dann Steigerung.

Die Meldung war ja schließlich schon letzte Woche bekannt!

Ich habe mir mal ein paar auf Verdacht gekauft . Habe heute was aus Frankreich gelesen, wo man NICHT mit einem Scheitern des Medikamentes rechnet sondern um eine Verschiebung um 1 Jahr -->> und somit würde Aventis auch weiter Geld geben .....
