Next Level and Liberate Partner to Deliver Interactive TV
Services Over Standard Telephone Lines
ROHNERT PARK, Calif. and SAN CARLOS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Jan. 14, 2000--Next Level Communications,
Inc. (NASDAQ: NXTV - news) and Liberate Technologies (NASDAQ: LBRT - news) today announced an agreement to
integrate Liberate client and server software with Next Level`s advanced DSL broadband delivery system. Under the
agreement, Next Level and Liberate will work together to deliver interactive TV services, including high-speed Internet
access, over standard telephone lines using DSL technology.
Liberate TV Navigator(TM) client software will be integrated with Next Level`s new Residential Gateway 2000, a single
set-top box connected to the DSL line that provides the connection to multiple appliances in the home, including telephones,
PCs and TVs. Using DSL technology, Next Level`s new Residential Gateway 2000 allows three TV`s to independently tune
to more than 200 digital video channels, provides a separate high-speed DSL port for PC`s and displays telephony features
such as caller ID and message waiting from a single device. The addition of the Liberate platform will enable Next Level`s
customers to offer high-speed interactive Internet access from either the TV or personal computer through a single set-top
box.
Commenting on the announcement, Joe Zell, president of U S WEST !NTERPRISE said, ``U S WEST is pleased with the
strategic partnership between Next Level and Liberate which will allow us to deliver advanced interactive services to our
customers.``
``Our agreement with Liberate is another step in a continuing program to allow our customers to cost effectively deploy
integrated broadband services over copper twisted pair,`` commented Pete Keeler, chief executive officer of Next Level.
``Next Level is already providing telephone companies with cost-effective solutions for integrated voice, data, and video
services on their existing networks. This agreement will better enable us to provide enhanced digital service capabilities
that allow our customers to compete more directly with cable companies in offering affordable Internet access,`` continued
Keeler.
``The DSL market holds an extraordinary amount of promise, delivering next generation capabilities and services over
existing infrastructure,`` said Mitchell Kertzman, president and CEO, Liberate Technologies. ``By entering this market
segment with industry-leaders like U S WEST and Next Level, our confidence is high that Liberate`s success in DSL will
quickly attain the momentum we`ve already achieved with cable operators around the world.``
Under this agreement, Next Level and Liberate have also agreed to participate in joint marketing efforts to promote their
technologies to telephone companies worldwide. Next Level and Liberate will co-market to a number of mutual customers
already using, or in trial with the Next Level system or on the Liberate platform. In addition, both companies will provide
demonstration capabilities at their respective facilities.

HEY,
ankopfen.
Was meint Ihr ????????

Hallo, es gibt also doch noch Menschen die sich mit diesem Top-Unternehmen
beschäftigen. Aktuell von heute !! Eine tolle Zusammenfassung unter :

Hier ein kleiner Ausschnitt :
We are initiating coverage of Next Level Communications, Inc. (NLC) with a Market Outperform rating and a 12-month
price target of $125. We believe the shares offer best-of-breed exposure to three major drivers of telco capital
investment: (i) increasing competition for residential subscribers among local telephone and cable companies on
the basis of bundled services; (ii) increasing investment in telco access networks to unlock local loop bandwidth
bottlenecks; and (iii) the transition of carrier networks to cell/packet orientation. NLC’s solution is an integrated
IP/ATM-based access system that enables telcos to offer everything from plain old telephone service (POTS) to
digital video services using very high speed digital subscriber line (VDSL) connections (of up to 25 Mbps) over a
common infrastructure. The system leverages the telcos’ installed base of copper access facilities, adding high-speed
fiber optics to the access network. It also allows the cost-effective provisioning of current services (such as
voice) with a clear upgrade path to high-speed data and video. We believe the Company’s strengths include a
substantial time-to-market advantage, a vast store of critical core technology (which serves as both a source of
value and an entry barrier), an experienced and capable management team, and a unique product portfolio for the
central office (CO) and customer premise (CPE). We believe NXTV’s valuation reflects the Company’s clear
leadership position, as well as its penetration of major U.S. local telcos, with upside potential stemming from
major new customer wins and a clearer market perception of integrated access systems’ role in the upcoming
cable/telco local loop battles.
Kurs heute : 82 Euro, bald 125 ?? Oder doch 200 Euro (Mein Kursziel)
Bis dann euer

Company Press Release
Next Level Provides Bell Canada with DSL Broadband Solution for Toronto High-Rise
Customers
Multiple Dwelling Unit (MDU) Applications Seen as a Growing Segment of the Broadband Services Market
ROHNERT PARK, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 24, 2000-- Next Level Communications, Inc. (NASDAQ:NXTV - news) today announced that Bell Canada, Canada`s largest
telecommunications company, has successfully completed the implementation and launch of a field trial of Next Level`s advanced DSL broadband architecture that is delivering voice,
high-speed DSL Internet access, and digital video services to customers in Toronto. The Palace Pier deployment provides broadband services to over 100 customers in the 45 story,
430-unit condominium apartment building. The successful conclusion of this technical trial will bring Bell Canada one step closer to the final stages of a strategy devised to deploy this
VDSL technology into their network.
``We are delighted to be teaming up with Next Level to provide customers with these state-of-the-art video, Internet and telephone services on a single integrated system over the
building`s existing telephone wires,`` said Clayton Mangione, Director of Technology Development at Bell Canada.
``Technically speaking, this trial is proving to be a complete success and our customers` reaction to the range and quality of services is overwhelming,`` Mangione continued. ``An
important objective in the trial is to be able to provide these services including multiple TVs (Picture in Picture and VCR), Bell Sympatico High Speed Internet access and telephony all
over our existing copper plant investment. The broadcast video services are being provided by Bell ExpressVu. The Next Level Residential Gateway set-top box enables a single device
solution for all services without having to add new wiring within the apartment building. This is another critical step that proves VDSL works well for these applications and will help us to
deliver high quality broadband services.``
``Bell Canada`s successful MDU deployment is an important demonstration of the scalability of Next Level`s DSL broadband system to cost-effectively deliver integrated voice, data and
video services to high density housing applications,`` said Pat Pachynski, senior vice president of marketing for Next Level. ``MDU applications are proving to be an excellent fit for the
deployment of broadband services using VDSL.``
Next Level`s DSL-based broadband access system allows broadband services to be distributed over the apartment building`s in-place copper phone lines. Next Level`s SONET
ATM/IP remote DSLAM terminals reside in the apartment complex telephone rooms or in an outside cabinet and deliver integrated broadband services on existing copper pairs to Next
Level`s Residential Gateways located within the individual apartments. The Residential Gateway is a single set-top box that provides the connection to multiple appliances in the home,
including telephones, PCs and TVs. Offering the most complete set of services from a single platform, Next Level`s Residential Gateway allows multiple TVs to independently tune to
hundreds of digital video channels, provides a separate high-speed DSL port for PC`s and displays telephony features such as caller ID and message waiting.

Company Press Release
Next Level and Tektronix Lower the Cost of Interactive DSL Video Services Delivered Over Standard Telephone Lines
ROHNERT PARK, Calif./BEAVERTON, Ore.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Jan. 28, 2000--
Over 60% Reduction in Standard Head-End Costs allow
Smaller Target Markets and Independent Telephone Companies
to Cost-Effectively Deliver Digital Video to the Home
Next Level Communications, Inc. (NASDAQ: NXTV - news) and Tektronix, Inc. (NYSE:TEK - news) today announced that they are jointly providing integrated digital video head-end and advanced DSL broadband solutions to telephone companies for the delivery of digital video and high speed Internet services to the home. The dramatic reductions made by Tektronix in digital video head-end costs coupled with Next Level`s cost effective DSL broadband system have made it economical for small target markets and independent telephone companies to now offer new video and Internet services to their customers.
Today`s announcement comes as telephone companies, small and large, are seeking new ways to offer high-growth, high-revenue services over existing telephone lines to the home. Next Level is currently deploying DSL broadband systems in US WEST and Bell Canada. Next Level and Tektronix together have demonstrated success in penetrating small to medium telephone companies, deploying video solutions with Hutchinson Telephone Company in Minnesota, Chibardun Telephone Cooperative, Inc. in Wisconsin, and Wood County Telephone Company in Wisconsin.
Network providers wishing to offer digital video services need to connect their networks to a facility, known as a digital head-end, that collects and distributes digital video feeds emanating from local, national and international television programmers. The traditional head-end equipment such as encoders, demultiplexers and network interfaces can cost $3 million or more per 100-channel installation. Now with the Tektronix solution the cost is $1 million or less. When a Tektronix head-end is deployed with Next Level`s cost-effective DSL broadband access system, even the smallest telephone companies can afford to provide their customers with the highest quality, state-of-the-art digital video entertainment.
``Next Level offers the leading DSL broadband networking solution for local exchange carriers seeking to enter the high-growth digital video & Internet business,`` said Lee Rainey, director of marketing for Tektronix`s VideoTele.com business unit. ``The integration of our video edge devices into Next Level`s proven VDSL architecture assures local carriers of high quality video distribution in a cost-effective manner,`` continued Rainey.
Next Level supplies the DSL broadband system that integrates voice, Internet and video onto a single telephone line at speeds up to 50 Mbps. Next Level`s Residential Gateway, a single set-top box connected to the DSL line, provides the connection to multiple appliances in the home, including telephones, PCs and TVs.
``The Tektronix video head-end solution is a very economical way to integrate video and audio feeds into the broadband signal delivered to the home by Next Level`s system,`` said Pat Pachynski, senior vice president of marketing for Next Level. ``As a result, it puts these new interactive video and Internet services within the reach of even the smallest local telephone companies,`` continued Pachynski.
Tektronix` VideoTele.com (VT.c) business unit provides MPEG digital encoding, de-multiplexing, and grooming solutions. These video and audio solutions empower telephone companies and other emerging communications service providers to cost-effectively deliver interactive entertainment content over broadband access systems. The VT.c digital head-end product suite offers outstanding video quality in high-density, easily managed configurations that allow service providers to save on initial costs as well as operating expenses. VT.c products interface seamlessly with DSL products from Next Level Communications.
In a joint effort to bring this technology to telephone companies, Next Level and Tektronix are conducting seminars and demonstrations around the United States and are planning a series of seminars this year in Europe. Schedules will be available on their websites the second week of February.
